Changing Birth with Hannah Willsmore

85. How I use the Neuroprotective Developmental Care (Possums) Approach with my Baby

Season 1 Episode 85

If you're a mum navigating the challenges of life with a new baby this one is for you. I’m diving deep into how I personally implemented the Neuroprotective Developmental Care (Possums) approach with my son, who’s now 2.5 years old.

Register for my FREE Support your Baby's Sleep without Sleep Training Workshop here. It's on Monday Dec 9th 2024 at 1pm ACDT but the recording will also be sent to everyone who registers.

NDC is an evidence-based method that integrates the latest research from lactation science, neuroscience, attachment psychology, and even sleep science. It’s all about supporting both you and your baby over the crucial first year of life—and beyond.

For those of you familiar with Possums, which many of you might have heard of, NDC was formerly known by that name. I share a bit more about why the name change happened in the episode.

In this episode, I’m focusing on the five key areas of NDC: Baby’s Health, Mother’s Mental Health, Feeding, Sensory Nourishment, and Sleep. I'll be sharing my personal experiences—what worked for me with Archie in those early months—and how I applied these principles to ensure his well-being and mine.

I’ll also talk about the importance of tailored support during this journey. Each family and baby is unique, so while I’ll be sharing what worked for us, remember that what works for one may not work for another. The advice in this episode is general, but I always recommend seeking personalised guidance for your specific situation.
