What happens when faith finally clicks?
In this episode of The Buddy Foy Jr. Show, Buddy shares a personal breakthrough—how years of struggle, discipline, and spiritual training created real space for the Holy Spirit to move. This isn’t theory. It’s lived experience.
Building on last week’s episode “Making Room for the Holy Spirit,” Buddy unpacks how discernment became the missing piece—helping him recognize what was God, what was personal effort, and what was spiritual opposition. Drawing from James 1 and Acts 10, he explains how stability, wisdom, and spiritual clarity are formed before pressure hits—through habits, rhythms, and intentional faith.
This episode explores:
- Why discernment is critical in spiritual battles
- How divided loyalty creates instability
- What Cornelius’ household teaches us about contagious faith
- Why preparation always comes before breakthrough
- How to build habits that make room for the Holy Spirit
Buddy isn’t a pastor or theologian—he’s a guy in what he calls the “Jesus Gym,” learning, stumbling, and showing up anyway. This podcast is about real faith, real work, and real growth.
If you feel tired, stuck, or tossed around by the noise of the world, this episode is an invitation to slow down, refocus, and keep showing up.

If you're feeling really generous, two would be fantastic. Thank you. The podcast is growing, and it's growing because our listeners are sharing it. I really appreciate that. Alright, folks, let's dive right into it. Last week's episode, I'm making room for the Holy Spirit. I got a lot of DMs, a lot of text messages, asked me a lot of questions, and also I spent a lot of time meditating on something I'm celebrating. I'm actually celebrating a win. I like to win. I'm a winner. And winning ground against the enemy, against the devil, is a big deal. And I actually had a win column, which doesn't happen often. I screw up the second my feet hit the ground. And what I'm winning on is making that room for the Holy Spirit that we talked about last week. I've actually been going through something, and I made room for the Holy Spirit. It's something that I've been working on for the last five years that I had had troubles with until recently. And what I'd like to unpack is some meditation, some prayer, and some discernment that I worked through to help me understand how I won the battle and let the enemy, or let the Holy Spirit in between me to defeat the enemy. I gave the Holy Spirit space. How did I do it? It took a lot of practice, a lot of time, and I want to repeat it. So to help me repeat it, I'm going to share with you today how I believe I achieved the ability to give my space to the Holy Spirit. So let the Holy Spirit in the middle to conquer the enemy. Here's what I learned. There's a few things I've been working on over the last couple years. There's two scriptures that have hit me hard, that gave me some insight. Scripture one was James. Scripture two was Acts. So let's unpack that now. And as we do it, know that I believe discernment played a critical role in helping me give the Holy Spirit space in some relationships and some issues. And without discernment, it's hard to understand when to make time. It's hard to understand who or where the enemy's coming from, where I'm getting in the way, and where God wants to make the impact. So a critical component to giving the Holy Spirit space in the middle is discernment. Let's unpack that. As we unpack that, let me share with you where my week began. My week began reading the Bible as I was preparing for this podcast in Micah, and it sounded so familiar. Warnings about corruptions, warning about injustice, and warnings about deception becoming everyday life. Just I was getting desensitized to the devil's work. And I believe that when there's so much noise out there, when I'm so focused on politics in the world, I find it hard for the Holy Spirit to enter the space because there isn't any. So I have to really put in practice my discernment in order to help me make room, in order to help me have space for the Holy Spirit to enter, and I'm not being consumed and blown all over the sea like a wave. So let's dive into how or what scripture made the biggest impact on me. James 1 through 5 on packs being a wave tossed and turned by the wind. And he says, if anyone lacks wisdom, ask God who gives generously without finding fault. I love that. All we have to do is ask God, and discernment comes. However, but when you ask, you must believe and not doubt. Otherwise, you are like a wave in the sea being blown and tossed by the wind. That verse always bothered me. Whenever it was priests on a platform, whenever a pastor, a priest, or it came up in any type of podcast I was listening to, it bothered me. I used to think, that's me. One foot in the world, one foot in the world. Fake shaped by distractions. The strongest opinion, the latest outrage getting my attention. I didn't want to live that unstable. I didn't want to be the wave rocking all over the place. I wanted a true North. I made a decision. The true North is going to be biblical. I'm going to stop getting distracted and distracted. I'm going to deploy a system. And I didn't even know it at the time, but now I do know what that system was. So I leaned in. Not perfectly, but intentionally. More scripture, more worship, and more honesty about my blind spots. Not perfection, folks, direction. And Acts 10 made a big impact on me. Cornelius, the centerium. He was not a pastor. He was not a clergyman. He was not a rabbi. He was a Roman centerium. And Scripture says he and his entire household feared God, gave generously, and prayed continually. That stopped me. And Scripture says it was his entire household. Faith isn't just personal, it's contagious. So I asked myself a hard question. What does my household look like spiritually? And the answer was uncomfortable. So changes had to be made. Bibles everywhere. I had to get my girls reading the Bible. Different versions, different colors, different designs. Whatever it took to get their attention, whatever grabbed, I had to keep digging. And eventually it worked. Church was no longer optional. Sports took the back burner. Church became the forefront, no matter where we were. Worship music replaced noise, news, pop music, rap music, and our cars and our home, worship music. Reading daily, imperfectly, but continuously. Generosity, not with just our money, but that definitely became a focal point. But also our time, our margin, our encouragement in prayer. Prayer changed. I was no longer praying to the cross, but I was praying with God in relationship. Over time, this took root. Not just me, but my entire household. Looking back now, I can see this clearly. And I can say I couldn't have made it where I am today, given the room I am for the Holy Spirit before this transformation. Not because I was fake, not because I was bad, but because I had not built habits that create its base. When I surrendered my home, my intention, and my rhythms, the Holy Spirit stepped in and he stepped right in the middle. Not because I got it right, folks, but because I showed up. Because I was intentional. And let me be clear. I'm still in the Jesus gym. I'm not a pastor. I make mistakes every day. I'm dropping a weight on my foot, but I'm showing up. I'm showing up. Now, remember, don't take my word for any of the scripture. Read below yourself. I'll put the show notes and go to the Bible. This podcast is me sharing my Jesus workout journeys imperfectly. So here's a takeout, takeaway today. Wisdom comes when we ask. Discernment grows when we listen. Stability comes when our loyalty isn't divided. And preparation always comes before pressure. You train before the event. If you missed last week's podcast, please go back and listen to it. It's short, but it matters. If you're tired, confused, or stuck, don't quit. Keep showing up. I will too. And God bless. Have a great week. And remember, don't take the bait.
