Love Hays and Soph xxx
Sophie: Before we begin, we are grateful to live and work on land that holds the stories of the Dreamtime. I pay my respects and honour the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Elders past, present & emerging and acknowledge the stories, traditions and living cultures of our First Nations People.
Hayley: Today we welcome the beautiful, intelligent and creative soul–Tess Guinery. Tess is not only a Mother but also an artist and the creator of renowned, ‘The Apricot Memoirs’ and the Moon Flower Monologues and more recently her beautiful new book, ‘The Stars Nodded'.
Soph: This recent beautiful book is a piece of poetry taken from her recent body of work ‘The Moonflower Monologues’ —extended and adapted into a creative ode for little people and big people alike. It was written with a passionate sense of movement and aliveness for the dance that life is.
Hays: Tess lives in the Northern Rivers of Australia. She is the mumma of three spirited daughters and married to the love of her life who is a stuntman for film (who I went to primary school with and he was always extremely acrobatic in the playground). The stuntman lifestyle has allowed for Tess and her family to live in some wonderful and wild places around the world.
Soph: Tenacious about creative growth, Tess is committed to being as water as she adheres to the every changing phases of life choosing to embrace the creative process as a road map to all the intricacies and rhythms that life brings. She has an unwavering belief that “creative expression will forever grow and change - but her purpose will forever remain the same”.
Hays: Firstly, We are PUMPED to have you with us today. Thanks for taking the time during your busy schedule. Now, we ask all of our guests this, do you have a funny Motherhood story for us?
Soph: Have you ever pumped or are you currently pumping? We need to know due to the title of the Poddy. And, How was breast feeding twins? Can you talk through your feeding journey?
Hays: Can you tell us about the story behind the inspiration and creative process of ‘birthing’ The Apricot Memoirs and your other stunning books of poetry?
Soph: How were the births of your 3 babes? (Summarised versions as the main focus is more so postpartum)
Hays: How were your 4th trimester journeys? (This may tie into the previous question). We have referred to the word surrender throughout this season of the podcast. Does the word ‘surrender ‘ resonate with you?
Soph: Do you remember the state of your mental health during the early days of Motherhood? Feel free to touch on one particular experience with any of your babes if you wish to.
Hays: What has been the most beautiful part of Motherhood for you? What about the most challenging aspect for you? Feel free to reflect on any stories or particular images or memories that come to mind.
Hays: What would you tell any mumma in the fourth trimester with all of your knowledge and experience?
Soph: What's one thing that you do for yourself if you can?
Hays: How was your transition to solids, any tips, tricks and advice for mummas out there as this can also cause a lot of anxiety for mums/dads?
Soph: Can you read us a n extract from ‘The Stars Nodded’ for our audiences?’
Soph: Can you give us three words that summarise motherhood for you?
H: Thanks so much for your generosity, your creative spirit and your candid sharing.
