In this gripping episode of Stance for Health, Dr. Rodney and Karen share their experience with a 21-Day Purification program focused on eliminating toxins from their bodies.

Despite leading a healthy lifestyle, Karen discovered twelve out-of-range markers in her blood work, prompting them to embark on this detox journey. They discuss the surprising influence environmental toxins have on their health, from glyphosate to plastics.

The program led to positive physical changes, increased mental clarity, and improved overall well-being.

Listeners learn how adjusting daily habits can lead to a more energized and fulfilling life.

Dr. Rodney: Hi and welcome to Stance for Health podcast. I'm Dr. Rodney, standing next to the newly ordained skydiver, but also having completed one of the latest in her many exploits. So we did a 21 day SP.

Karen: Purification program and SP stands for standard process.

Dr. Rodney: Sorry about that. Yeah, I throw that around like everybody knows what that means. Thank you.

Karen's actually the one that did the before and after blood tests. She was excited and for good reason to see how this program, which obviously is loaded with nutrients, affected her actual blood work.

Karen: Well, I'd like to start talking about the reason that we did the 21 day purification.

The fact that no matter how clean we were eating and everything that we had done to clean up our environment and do all these things, I still had 12 out of range markers in my blood work.

I'd like to back up and talk about the fact that my blood work was through function health. And I was very excited when I took that last July last year.

That I was 12 years younger than my stated age made me feel good. I had 12 markers that were out of range. And so I thought when this 21 day purification came around, I thought, let's try it. Let's talk first about the toxins that overburden our body's natural ability to detoxify.

Dr. Rodney: It's scary to say this because it's true. I grew up in the Midwest and talked about that before, how there's so many herbicides and pesticides that are used. 800 million pounds of herbicides are used per year. I have to assume that that's including glyphosate.

So that's one of the things I grew up around and that actually inhibits magnesium.

80,000 different chemicals, including that one are actually registered for use. But that's just the chemicals that are floating around in our atmosphere, probably in our water, likely in our air, likely in our food some way or another. And then 167 different industrial chemicals that have been found in adults inside our bodies that, that aren't related to their particular brand of employment. Now, there are certain chemicals that you would expect to see in someone that, for instance, works at coal refinery or.

Karen: Coal manufacturing or installing vinyl floors.

Dr. Rodney: Vinyl floors, yeah. The kind of chemicals, the epoxies and stuff like that. So those are just some of the simple things that are just out there for the reading that you can actually look at on PubMed and places like that that are published that we've done.

Karen: This and some of the other things that we've done, not only cleaning up what we eat and eating organic food, but is that we have a EMF blocker close to our bedroom in our closet that that helps us.

We've also eliminated plastics as as much as we can not- said eliminated. Reduced, I guess, is a better thing to say about the plastics. That's other toxins that we're breathing in or we're ingesting because our food is processed with plastics. We've changed so many things at home. Threw out perfectly good cutting boards because they were plastic.

We've got a whole podcast on that. I'll put the link below.

But we had done all of those things. And so when I looked deeper at my blood work, did a deeper dive, saw that I still had 12 markers that were out of the safety margin. When you have these toxins, what are the things that you might be feeling that you aren't saying, oh, this is because I have a toxic load. What are some things that could be there, doc?

Dr. Rodney: Oh, a hundred percent. Great question is if you know, if the re. If for the reason that is obvious that you just by choice aren't. Maybe you do shift work and you know, they say, well, that's normal to be fatigued or to feel tired. Well, what if you're getting 7, 8, 9, 10 hours of sleep and you're still fatigued throughout the day or at certain times of the day, maybe in the afternoon after you eat.

That's one possibility. One of the possible side effects or symptoms. Food cravings. Everybody knows what a food craving is like if you've either been pregnant or like me, you wanted coffee. On day 12 of this, we'll say, and then, you know, unexpected weight gain like. Or swelling in your joints or swelling in your extremities-Joint discomfort.

There are things that I can check off this list beforehand that aren't there now or if they're there, they're vastly improved. My right hip and my feet. I notice. I don't notice my feet as much in the morning when I first hop out of bed.

Karen: Well, and you were saying, I've got the blood work, but we both have physically, a hundred percent discovered that. That hitch in my right hip that I just figured, well, that's just something that I'm going to continue to have the rest of my life. It is gone.

Dr. Rodney: Now, instead of saying, you know what? I can't do it for 21 days. I can do it for 10 days. This is for you. Because it affects. All of these chemicals affect human beings, they affect animals, they affect.

Karen: You had the skin issue on your face. That comes out, right?

Dr. Rodney: That's next on the list. Yeah. Sometimes it just wouldn't go away at all. It would go away some, but I would especially notice it in the summertime, particularly around times when there would be, like, allergens in the air and things like that. I would have this ectopic dermatitis that had been around since chiropractic school.

Karen: Possibly the stress of that and you weren't eating healthy.

Dr. Rodney: You can back that all the way up to gut disruption or a lot of things that we're learning that you're going to hear some of the stuff that we've been relearning. I noticed a little bit of a tingle now and again, but not as badly or as often in the area of skin in that same area.

Karen: One of the things that I noticed towards the end of the 21 days is greater mental clarity, too.

Dr. Rodney: Yeah.

Karen: Felt more at peace.

Dr. Rodney: I'm glad you said that because doesn't it seem like it takes less effort even to come up with a thought or to remember something?

Karen: Words coming easier, Same thing. All of that. Back to the point of what you were saying, that indigestion or gastrointestinal upset, that completely shifted as well.

Dr. Rodney: Yes. How regular are you?

Karen: Yes.

Dr. Rodney: Or how regular would you like to be? And, you know, then you can get into consistency and all of this different stuff.

Karen: Probably a topic most people you don't joke about, but it is a true measure of how your health is. Elimination.

Dr. Rodney: Yeah.

Karen: And that's really what happens during this 21 day of purification. So we've talked about that. Our air, our food, our water, the products we touch. Oh, that's the one area I wanted to bring out, too.

We've also done our best to eliminate any shampoos or lotions and toothpaste, anything that could affect hormones. And so that means using a lot of oils, natural oils, castor oil, and all of these different things that we had already done. But all of those can add to the toxic load. It's coming into Your lungs, your skin, your gut, what you're putting into your body.

So talk a little bit about the detoxification process.

Dr. Rodney: When you think about a system in the body, or we think of upstream and downstream, almost like you would like the mouth of the Mississippi river, which happens to be Lake Itasca in Minnesota, right?

So how many inputs from these places of toxification now does your body have? How many avenues, how many different ways? You've got the lymphatic system, you've got the spleen, you've got the kidneys, adrenals, you've got the liver. The liver really probably gets the largest brunt of this. But the systems, the systems that are connected to the liver, and anytime you're talking about lymph or body fluids, anywhere blood touches, in essence, you. You have to take this into consideration.

Breath actually helps you detox. You're actually breathing out toxins. Your urinary tract actually eliminates toxins through the urine. Ultimately, any solids that your liver is able to not hold onto that, that it can pass, it's going to pass through the bowel. But there are some things that your liver has to hold onto because if your body thinks that it's going to hurt itself in the cup for cells by not holding onto it and trying to pass it through the bowel, if it's not safe to do that, it'll just pass it one generation on to the next of Kupfer cells in the liver, which eventually creates a burden. It just gets to be too much for the liver to hold onto.

Karen: I'm glad you said that because there's a lot of influencers out there saying you need to do a chlorella and cilantro detox. What can happen with that? If you don't have binding elements like what is in the system, then that's going to make you feel worse than you did before.

And I just want to give the Testimonial for the 21 purification that I am such a fan of it because it did not stop us from our regular life. In fact, I even started this on a Saturday just in case we needed to camp in the bathroom. That did not happen.

Dr. Rodney: No, it didn't. I was trying to recollect, since you mentioned that, what exactly it was like. I think we did experience some additional fatigue.

Karen: Yes.

Dr. Rodney: Maybe you just. Second day felt more like taking naps that you. For me, that's saying a lot.

Karen: Well, we can be addicted to food. And so when we started talking about it and I started reading what we were going to have to quote, unquote, give up. There was a little bit of a pushback on one element.

Dr. Rodney: Who doesn't like coffee that is a coffee drinker.

Karen: There we go. So he goes, we have to give up coffee. And I said, yeah, we're going to give up a little square of chocolate after our meals. And that was the hardest one.

Dr. Rodney: I think the thought was something like this. She wants to take away all the.

Karen: Pleasures and we have so few. But then on top of that, no eggs, no meat the first week and increasing the number of veggies. And so it can seem pretty overwhelming. But as we jumped into it and began to do the smoothies, we used the, the chocolate flavor, protein, I guess you'd call it, or powder. We did that with hot water and replaced the coffee. We got into a routine, never felt hungry. The cravings began to stop. And now that we have gone off of it,you miss it a little bit.

Dr. Rodney: It's like, where's my chocolate flavored drink in the morning? Another case in point. There were two things that I was thinking about. What you were saying reminded me of is that coffee doesn't taste the same.

Karen: I don't want to dislike coffee because I grew up disliking coffee and the only way I could drink it is with mainly milk and a lot of sugar.

Dr. Rodney: I think some of us are afraid to not want it anymore. Chocolate tastes better.

Karen: My opinion, it does. Everything tastes better. That was one of the things that like the second week I made us a salad and I put a little bit of balsamic vinegar in it and it tasted so sweet. And it was just amazing what happened to the taste buds as well. And so that's, that's just what. As we work through it,because those toxins were able to exit through our lungs, we still did the deep breathing with the sauna. Continue to go to the sauna. We didn't exercise as heavily that first week, which we felt was good.

Dr. Rodney: One of the things that, as you were just talking just now, how achievable is this? Is one question that you might be asking. And then the other is, well, am I gonna lose a lot of weight?

So while you were talking, I just thought I would weigh myself. And since we stopped the detox with its nutrient rich product, I'm probably down five pounds. I said all that to say that if your goal is just weight loss alone, it might be a bit disappointing.

But at the same time paves the way to make it easier, easier for you to drop weight, to do activities that you can use to drop weight. It gives you the power to change your diet because of food cravings. Would you, would you agree with that?

Karen: 1,000%. I lost five pounds and it is exactly where I wanted to lose was around the belly. And really I don't want to lose a lot. This is not a weight loss, it's just a normalizing.

It will however, reset your metabolism and your metabolism is the main thing you have going for you. Have you met those people that seem to eat anything they want and don't gain a pound?

Well, that is because of a metabolic reset. The way the metabolism works is astounding. And that can make the difference.

And I love the fact that I'm going to drum roll here, give you my results from the blood work because that's what we led with and I love that. Now when I got my results back last August, they were saying I was doing great, but they wanted me to monitor my cholesterol and inflammation. The cholesterol issues were completely resolved. So total cholesterol, LDL and non HDL and LDL-they all went to normal ranges.

Dr. Rodney: And that's just one area of, of blood testing. Just one. And, and that's really a hot button for a lot of people.

Karen: It is because your doctor is going to want to put you on statins with this. And this was simply my body normalizing all that. Now, the inflammation marker went in the right direction. That's the CRP - High sensitivity C reactive protein.

And that implies increased inflammation that can harm the blood vessels or contribute to heart problems. But the exciting part is I went in the right direction and had very little to go to be completely in the.

Dr. Rodney: So you're heading in the right direction.

Karen: In the optimal range, yes. Which is even more strict.

Now one area that I have let down, I will confess to you that, that my omega 3s are not dangerously low, but they are low. And that's remediated by simply taking my capsules or the liquid that we take and eating more fish.

Dr. Rodney: That one was a bit of a surprise to me. What else?

Karen: And the most exciting thing about all is this new blood test. I was expecting that it was going to tell me that I was even younger.

So this is what was the most fun part about this function health blood work is they give you your real age. And I am still 12 years younger than my stated age. So you have your age, your chronological age from the day you were born and you have your actual age, what your body is saying. And so I'm very excited about what we're doing moving forward and would definitely do this again. In fact, maybe twice a year for sure. Once a year.

Dr. Rodney: A hundred percent.

Karen: Because it is a reset. More energy that. Less inflammation which I had or whatever was happening in that right hip area. And for you as well.

Dr. Rodney: Same. Same hip. Yeah. It might be for different reasons.

Karen: So we want to encourage you that you might be saying, oh, I can't do this. This is too heroic. Take a few steps, eliminate your seed oils. I'll put the link to that podcast down below as well. Begin to eat more meals at home, more vegetables that have the fiber and begin to change your taste. Do the deep breathing, drink plenty of water, do the lymphatic massage, all the things that you're doing and if you need just a little push like we did this can really change your life.

Dr. Rodney: Yeah. Has the power to do that. If you give yourself to this at whatever level I mentioned. Doesn't have to be the full 21 days.

It can be the 10 day sprint and a SP detox balance program. We did that what about was it three months ago?

It's totally doable and totally worth it in this world that we live in. So all of this we do, always we share this with you. We are more or less guinea pigs. We try it out ourselves first.

Karen: That is one thing I was going to say is we did not promote this that much because we will not ask you to do anything that we're not willing to do to take your stance for health.

Dr. Rodney: Thanks again for listening.
