The news hit like a thunderclap: Jeff Galloway, the voice behind run-walk-run and a steady light at so many runDisney start lines, has passed away. We pause to honor the coach who made marathons feel possible, share early thoughts through the shock, and invite everyone at Princess Weekend to carry his legacy in the miles ahead.

From there, we shift into a packed, upbeat show that keeps community at the center. We break down the new Marathon Weekend artwork and what Donald’s 30th half marathon anniversary might mean for medal design and race-day energy. Then we revisit Springtime Surprise medals—initially “simple,” until we spot the glitter and fluid movement that will pop in person. On the expo front, we debate the Brooks Princess releases: Rapunzel braids on laces, bold character palettes, why specific IP sells better than weekend branding, and where a Merida colorway could still shine. It’s practical talk for anyone timing their expo line or eyeing limited drops.

Our spotlight guest, Kristen of Running in Makeup, returns with real-world wisdom. After an injury and a purposeful pause from filming, she details how stepping back sharpened training, improved form, and delivered a 30-minute marathon PR. We trade chaotic race-morning tales (forgotten insoles!), celebrate inventive costumes (a Joffrey’s coffee cup for the win), and lean into her post-long-run Dr Pepper ritual rooted in Baylor and Waco lore. The heart of it: how runners balance creativity, goals, and recovery without losing joy.

We close with a sweeping Princess roll call and a coast-to-coast race report: Vegas lights and PRs, a gritty urban ultra in Ocala navigating painted horse statues, and the beloved Gasparilla challenges with donuts, sprinklers, and rainy-day grit. Whether you’re chasing a first 5K or stacking a multi-race weekend, you’ll find tips, laughs, and a reminder of why we show up for one another—especially now.

If this moved you, subscribe, share with a running friend, and leave a review. Tell us: how will you honor Jeff in your next run?

Remembering Jeff Galloway

SPEAKER_06

This evening, Wednesday, February 25th, the father of the run-walk-run method, the Galloway method, or better known as Jeffing, is no longer with us. News broke this evening that the official running consultant for Run Disney, Mr. Jeff Galloway, has passed away at the age of 80. And to say that we are all in shock is an understatement. Greg here, and I'm I'm joined with uh with Jack. Hiya. And with John. Hello. And we just wanted to hop on here for just a very, very brief moment to just share this news as unfortunately a dark cloud has now gone over what was going to be a fabulous Run Disney princess weekend. But the reason why we wanted to hop on here very briefly was obviously all of this news came down after we had recorded this week's episode. So obviously, as you'll hear a lot of jovial topics, us debating about Brooks shoes and excitement of springtime medals. In the grand scheme of things, none of that matters now because such a influential leader in this sport and in this community is now gone. And we're all going to need time to um to process this. But uh, like I said, we just wanted to just take a few moments here to recognize this. And we promise that whether it's in next week's episode or in a special episode, all of us will gather around our virtual recording studio here to share our thoughts and and properly eulogize Jeff Galloway. But before we get into the crux of this week's episode, uh John or Jack, and any quick thoughts that that you want to share?

SPEAKER_05

It's very sad news.

SPEAKER_14

Just a quick thought. I mean, I met Jeff 2022 at the uh expo for Marathon Weekend, gave me some great advice. He talked to you like he knew you for a hundred years. That's that's what I liked about him. And he was one of the biggest cheerleaders out there on the course for everybody.

SPEAKER_00

No, and I and I totally agree with you guys. It's Run Disney will not will not feel like what it used to be without him. He there's gonna be like that void there in a sense, um, because he is Run Disney. Um and uh it's gonna be so weird the next time I go to Run Disney race and not see him there. I remember going to the Disneyland race weekend and be like, oh, there's Jeff. And I I didn't go over say hi because he looked really busy, and I was like, I'll go see him at the next Run Disney race weekend. And that's crazy that I I I wish I did say hi to him. But um he is beloved by all, he is the godfather of Run Disney, and he will be greatly missed.

Holding Space For Grief At Princess

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, I mean, there's just so many stories to share. So obviously, as we said, we are going to take you know proper time in a future episode to you know give a proper remembrance um you know to Jeff on the podcast, um, you know, especially since you know Alicia is away and Bob is currently at Princess, and you know, we want to make sure that their voices are available. We want to have Lexi here. We'll heck, we'll maybe even try to get Allie um you know to join for that episode. But on behalf of all the hosts of the Rise and Run podcast and from the entire Rise and Run community, we just want to send our most heartfelt condolences to the entire Galloway family in terms of the actual family members. And but what's beautiful about Jeff Galloway is that his family extended outside of his intermediate family and it extends to all of his staff and everyone else within the running community that has just been touched by such an incredible human being. And again, we just we are so incredibly sorry. And our thoughts and our prayers are with you all now. For those of you that are currently at Princess, obviously run those run, walk, run all those miles this weekend in honor of an incredible man. And I know it will be difficult, but in hearing news like this, if there's one place I would want to be, it would be at Walt Disney World running in a Run Disney race weekend surrounded by a very strong running community that is going to be there for one another. So to everyone participating this weekend, we wish you the absolute best of luck. Care for each other, hug each other, cry with one another, grieve with one another, and just enjoy the weekend the best that you can and know that we have one amazing coach looking down on us right now.

SPEAKER_05

And you know what Jeff would say? You can do it. Absolutely.

SPEAKER_06

So thank you for giving us a couple of minutes to just uh chat about this and um now please enjoy uh this week's edition of the Rise and Run podcast.

SPEAKER_02

Expo lights and cheering lines, costumes bright and hopefully signs. We're not alone. This path is wide with every listener by side from training, tips and tales and be mine, inspiration in every line. We may follow the winds again in the field of the community and friends. We belong in this rhythm.

SPEAKER_01

Hey, Rise and Run family. This is Andrew in Atlanta. I am ecstatic to have gotten a last-minute bib for Princess Weekend. Looking forward to seeing everybody down there and to hopefully finally make a Saturday meetup over at Disney Springs. So keep training. See y'all shortly.

Cold Opens And Host Banter

SPEAKER_13

Hey, Andrew. Thanks for the intro. We look forward to seeing you this weekend. Hey, glad you got that last-minute princess bib because, my friends, it is Princess Weekend. Look around, we're at the expo. All of your Rise and Run hosts are there except for Lexi, Greg, John, Jack, and Alicia. Other than that, they're all there. That would be me. I'll be there. I'm looking for you. But hey, let's get back to the beginning here. Friends, welcome. Welcome to episode 231 of the Rise and Run Podcast. We're glad you're here. I'm Bob. And this week I'm here with Lexi. Hello. With Greg. Hey, hey, hey. And with John. Hey, how you doing? Good John. Thanks for asking. I appreciate it. A little chilly. Man, I'll tell you, it's really rough these low temperatures down here. You guys, you guys don't understand what it's like. I mean, it's just 46, my goodness.

SPEAKER_14

I uh I got like 16 right now, and I got about 20 inches of snow outside.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, I was gonna ask how many inches of snow you got uh this weekend, Bob. Uh same we had as all last year, Greg. Nothing is more disheartening. I know there were there was like a reel going around, but it it was nothing was more disheartening than the fact that I finally saw all my grass was finally uncovered, and then the next day, boom, a foot of snow. Yep, exactly.

SPEAKER_13

Yeah, I kind of remember, but I I don't miss it that much. And friends, well, obviously, friends who are coming to Princess Weekend, many of you are already here. You know that the uh the chilly air in Florida, and it is chilly, it's not cold, it's chilly, is gone. And the warm Florida weather, warm and humid, I think. I'm not sure. I didn't look it looked that up. Believe it or not, it has not been very humid here the last couple days. But we'll see what it's gonna be like this weekend. My fear this weekend is not temperature related. I'm afraid we may get some rain, but I'm gonna stop talking about that because Dag Nabit, I can't do anything about it. So, hey, this week on episode 231, we talk with our friend Kristen. Kristen of Running in Makeup and Council of Costume Fame. She rejoins us for a fun conversation in the spotlight. Hannah did a painted horse ultra race in Ocala, Florida.

Princess Weekend Setup And Housekeeping

SPEAKER_06

The Rise and Run Podcast is sponsored by our wonderful, wonderful friends over at Magic Bound Travel. And the thing I wanted to bring up, I know I mentioned this last week, but uh it is officially on the books now. If you are one of our amazing friends who is coming up to Amish Country this fall, this September, for the 2026 version of the bird in hand half marathon weekend, our friends over at MBT have secured a room block at the True by Hilton. Uh, it's about a seven minute or so drive uh from the start line area. So real quick, easy commute. I think it's a whopping like two or three turns from the hotel. Oh, yeah, it's you know, to the parking lot area. So extremely easy. They got a great rate. Uh, the rate is good for a couple of days during the weekend and pre and post. So if you are interested in getting part of that room block, be sure to reach out to your travel advisor over at magicboundtravel.com and they will set you up so you can enjoy all the whoopee pies, ribs, chicken, and all the glorious food that Amish Country has to offer.

SPEAKER_13

You know, in the sales pitch, we always say better book them now because they're going fast, which is typically a come online, but in this case, this is true. Uh, I think over half of the uh of the reserve booking is already taken up. Absolutely. Yep. Yeah. So there are probably just a few left. So if you're heading up there, uh I have stayed at a true by Hilton before. That is on the economy end of the Hilton chain, but it's a fine hotel. I have no problem with it. Be happy staying there. Uh John and I stayed in that general area last year. It's an easy commute to and from the race.

SPEAKER_06

So yeah, I think there's uh uh an indoor pool and they do offer free breakfast as well, too. So uh that that's a nice perk.

SPEAKER_14

Yeah. And there's it's right on the main main highway there. So if you needed anything like I think there's like a CVS or one of those. Oh, yeah, yeah. On Route 30, right there.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, they're everything under the sun. Uh Target, the uh what which believe it or not, the only Target that I've ever been to that has horse and buggy parking in their parking lot. Wow.

Travel And Lodging Tips With MBT

SPEAKER_13

Yeah, yeah. I'm I believe you. Probably is the only one you'll ever be to. That's that's pretty cool, though. So so there you go, friends. Uh for real, if you're looking for one, take a look. Pinned to the the link is pinned to the favorites featured section on our Facebook page, or go to the magicboundtravel.com website and check it out there. Take a look at the training schedule. Obviously, Princess is coming off the training schedule as it is now race weekend, so there is only one race weekend on the training schedule. That's springtime surprise. It is a mere seven weeks away. I say mere because it's gonna go by like that. It's gonna go by fast. We're in training week number 11, and your training this weekend is four miles with a magic mile. Hey, I mentioned before the training, the princess weekend meetup, 3 p.m. food truck area. Now, I've been looking at the forecast, and right now it doesn't look good. The forecast looks like it's for rain. We've gotten very lucky in the past, and hopefully we will again. We have some thoughts, some ideas, and I will do my best to keep you posted on Facebook. Unfortunately, we don't have those Facebook group messengers. I know we have the Discord messaging service, but I know not everyone is on that. So I will try to use Facebook to keep you updated. Uh, we will do our level best to get it in. What I really, really hope to do is that, you know, we start them we start the meetup around 3 p.m. and then we do our group photo at 3.30. I would love to be able to do that and make it a group tribute to Jeff Galloway in that group photo. Take a little video where we can tell Jeff just how much we love him. So hopefully we can do that. Now I do have an alternate plan. If if it's lightning in the area, then there's nothing we can do about it. Then it's then it's off. But if and believe me, we got about 500 cookies made. So we hope it's not off. Yes, plus plus we love the meetups and we we really want to see you there. Uh but if it's raining and we're still able to get to Disney Springs, there is the Stargazer bar behind Planet Hollywood that is covered, it's relatively large, it probably could accommodate a bunch of us. However, as of about a year ago, they didn't open till 4 p.m. So I'll have to check on all that. Bottom line is let's plan for the worst, hope for the best. And I hope to see you at the food truck area at 3 p.m. on Saturday. This is uh no, this is not a Zoom Thursday. This is an expo Thursday. Next Thursday, Thursday, March 5th. Will be a Zoom chance for you to join us and tell us your favorite Princess Weekend stories.

SPEAKER_11

Caution Runners, change of topic ahead.

SPEAKER_13

Well, Disney dropped a bunch of things on us this week. Where do we start? Let's start with the artwork we saw for the 2027 Marathon Weekend. Gang, this is about as far out as I can remember seeing artwork 10, 11 months ahead of time, almost a full year. Aside from that, I don't have any real comments on it. I didn't see any surprises. What are your thoughts?

SPEAKER_10

I love them. I I think it's very crisp and clean, and I mean, exactly what you would think of for Marathon weekend.

SPEAKER_14

I don't know if they're like the this is this is the artwork or just like the themes they're announcing because registration's in about two weeks. Three weeks, I think. Two weeks.

SPEAKER_13

17th of March. So about about three weeks. Well, I'll tell you how many days. We're uh let's see, registration.

SPEAKER_10

Club Run Disney is on the 10th.

SPEAKER_13

Yeah, so that yeah, almost about two weeks. We're 19 days away from registration day.

SPEAKER_14

For for general, for us general people, yes. Yeah, right, right. Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_13

Not Club Run Disney, yeah. Yeah.

SPEAKER_14

19 days away. I don't know. Because I think there's gotta be more, I think, because usually Oh yeah. You know, I mean, I I still don't get I just every time I look at these things, I maybe it's just me. Looking at Goofy being purple does not that's still like the that's like the what do you call it? The dopey colors, I would say. And I just kind of kind of weirds me out.

SPEAKER_10

And then they got that shade of purple though. It's my favorite color.

SPEAKER_14

I know you can't yeah, and then dopey's green again, like I like like like a olive green, which I don't know.

SPEAKER_13

Yeah, you think they would flip-flop, goofy would be green and yeah, it'd be purple, but yeah.

SPEAKER_14

So I mean that's I can live with it.

SPEAKER_13

And I again I can't read too much into this. Uh Lexi commented that they're clean and simple, and she's right. I don't think there's I don't think there's anything to read into any of them.

SPEAKER_10

I love that they're all runners, like they all have the little sweatbands on. All right. I think it's cute.

Training Calendar And Meetups

SPEAKER_06

I mean, I must say, I even though it is simplistic and clean, like you were saying, Lexi, I I agree with you there 1000%. I like the fact that they're kind of digging into this idea of Donald taking over the weekend because it is the 30th anniversary of the half marathon, and obviously Donald, I think since the beginning has always been on the half metal. They did they did make mention in the I guess the release information that Donald would be featured on the goofy metal this year, which I think is really cool. But yes, and so I I what I liked about the artwork just in general is the fact that it had that you know, Donald. I guess if Donald has a font, you know, they're using that, they're they're using his colors in terms of like the cleanness, it almost kind of reminded me of Bob and John. I'm gonna kick it old school here, you know, the you know, the old time you know Disney cartoons. Remember how like it would always start with like a big picture of them with like the title, and then you know there would be the music playing underneath. That's the kind of vibe that I was getting from the individualized artwork for each of them, which I thought was a really nice touch. And I'll be perfectly honest with you. I I think I prefer this style of not attaching it to a quote-unquote theme per se, as like they did this past year with you know the different books and and such like that. I think it gives them a little bit more versatility in terms of metal design and then eventual merch design and such. So the fact that, you know, again, Donald's infiltrating, I'll be very interested to see that once the medals do come out, you know, are there gonna be slight nods to Donald in each and every single um you know, race metal and such? I you know, I think that or even like the the on stage banter, like you know, is Donald gonna try to make his way up on stage, you know, each and every race. I I think that um will be uh really interesting to see. But you know, so simplistic, but I think effective though. So I'm I'm excited for it.

SPEAKER_13

Well, Greg, you mentioned medals several times, and let's go from way out to just a little bit closer. We saw springtime medals revealed this week, also. Looked pretty cool to me, but uh I solicit your input, my friends.

SPEAKER_06

For me, I will say that this was the first time when it came to medals where I kind of fell into a sense of I was judging a book by its cover, and my tune on them has changed. When I saw the The initial photos of them, I was actually kind of disappointed. I thought they were a little a little simplistic, and and the reason why I I would was initially thinking that is because you know as I've made mention the last several times we have discussed medals, I thought Run Disney has been knocking it out of the park in terms of their metal designs, and you know, because I thought you know the the medals that everyone will be getting this weekend at Princess, I think are a fantastic design. Um, I really enjoyed the marathon weekend medals. I thought Disneylands were awesome. So then when I saw these, I was like, yeah, this is like kind of a letdown. And then that afternoon, I was eating lunch with uh with my wife, and you know, she's jazzed because you know she's getting her first ever 10k medal, and she's like, Oh my god, can you believe that the honey in the in the pot for the 10K is glitter and it moves? And I'm like, what? What are you talking about? And then she's like, you don't see it? Like, there's like there's an air bubble in there and it's all sparkly and stuff. And I'm like, I did not pick up on that at all. And then I noticed that I think all of the metals except for the 5k all have some type of glitter element associated with them. And based on the fact that you can see like a little air bubble in the photo, that is gonna give, you know, gives me the assumption that there is that's the quote unquote movement for the metals. And I was like, okay, I will give Run Disney the credit here that they're trying something with you know a new type of material in relation to the metals that we haven't seen before. And so even from a design perspective, I still think they're a little bit more simplistic than the last couple of weekends. The fact that they're trying something new here, I want to give them their credit for it.

SPEAKER_10

Yeah, I love the colors of them. I just like the bright colors, um, they just are very vibrant in general. Um, I'll be honest, until you said that, Greg, I did not notice that there was glitter. And I was like, wait a second. Um, so I think they're gonna be really cool to see in person.

SPEAKER_13

Uh yeah, I I like just what you said. I like them when they're bright and colorful and relatively simple. So I was I was happy with what I saw. So yeah, it's better than just going, yeah, they're okay. Yeah, you're you're really evolving. I'm proud of you, buddy. I'm I'm I'm practically embullient. Pretty good word, huh?

SPEAKER_06

There's a 50 cent word. Can you can you use it in a sentence, please?

SPEAKER_14

I thought I just did. I'm just jazzed that uh Ted Mother has Britney on it. Joy. Oh, okay. Every time I see you join, I think of Britney Charbonneau when she won the uh Jokey that year. Yeah.

SPEAKER_13

That's very cool. All right, so we go from 11 months out to seven weeks out to sometime this weekend. The Princess Shoes. Or today made their debut. Yeah, right. Today. Yeah. Uh the Princess Shoes made your made their debut. And what pair are you getting, Bob? Yeah, no. And you know what?

SPEAKER_10

Oh, come on, you don't want the long hair.

Marathon Weekend Artwork Reactions

SPEAKER_13

No. Well, we got five shoes available. You got the Run Disney shoe, you got the Mickey shoe, which I already own. Uh am I wearing I'm wearing last year's Mickey shoe right now. Um there's a a Bell shoe, a Chip and Dale shoe?

SPEAKER_14

No, that was earlier. That was last that was uh That was on Marathon Weekend.

SPEAKER_12

Yes, it was.

SPEAKER_10

But I did see that the Chip and Dale shoe is available on Brooks Running.com on Brooks site? Okay, they might have them at the expo. I don't know.

SPEAKER_13

That's a lot. There's they're already stocking five pairs. I'd be surprised. So what are they stocking? Stocking Run Run Disney they're stocking Mickey, uh Bell, uh Moana and Rapunzel. Rapunzel, okay, thank you. That's the one I missed. Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_10

I think they're beautifully designed. Um I love that the shoelaces on Rapunzel are braided like Rapunzel's hair. Um I think they represent the princesses very well. Um, I think they're gonna go like hot cakes.

SPEAKER_13

Oh, they will. They absolutely will. Uh I mean that's that's been the case every weekend, including out at Disneyland.

SPEAKER_06

The part that I think I'm most surprised by is what is it about this weekend that is soliciting three new releases?

SPEAKER_10

Like to me, I think and no weekend specific shoe. Yes. That's true. If you're gonna do three shoes, why not do one that's all of the princesses or something?

SPEAKER_06

Now, from that perspective, Lexi, I actually I think I understand why maybe they have departed from that a little bit because in my mind, a specific character shoe, I feel like would sell better than a generic weekend shoe. Like, you know, to me, I remember like when when they first started this, it was at Springtime Surprise last year. And I remember the Springtime shoe was like teal and yellow. I mean, it was beautiful, but at the same time, it's a situation where, okay, if I have those on my feet and I'm walking by someone, no one's gonna be able to point at boy, boy, those are some great springtime surprise shoes. But if they see a purple shoe with yellow laces that look like braided hair, they're gonna damn well know that that's a Rapunzel shoe. So I I see them why they're moving in in that direction. Um, but the fact that like the biggest weekend of the year, really the only quote unquote new shoe was the Chip and Dale shoe. But then here we are at Princess, and we're getting three different types of shoes. Um, but I I I think they'll sell well though.

SPEAKER_14

I uh that's the model. So the princesses of the weekend, which is actually except for Moana, not Moana, uh Merida. Merida didn't get her shoe, yeah. You know, you know, but yeah, so they that's something different too this this weekend. Each almost every race is uh covered with a shoe.

SPEAKER_13

That's why I'm not buying any, Greg.

SPEAKER_10

You wanted the Merida shoe.

SPEAKER_06

I wanted a Merida shoe, yeah.

SPEAKER_10

Man, I'm I'm so sorry for you, Bob.

SPEAKER_06

Actually, you know what? Speaking of Merida shoes, though, what I found interesting though is that there was a a post on Instagram. I I I don't know what the account was, but clearly it was AI generated artwork of Brooke shoes that that were related to the you know the four princesses of the weekend, which that one in that post had a Meredith shoe. So if in the world of AI, Bob, you would have they would have the shoe for you. But I had the conversation with with a couple of people uh you know earlier before recording today, and while they like the the release of the shoes, they're like, I think I kind of like the artwork and the AI ones better than what the is actually being sold.

SPEAKER_10

Except for the spelling errors, you know. Yes, what was it?

SPEAKER_06

Glycerin was spelled wrong or something like that.

SPEAKER_14

That's how I didn't see that. That's how it bypasses, I think, the uh copyright or green market infringement.

SPEAKER_10

But also, I think it's really interesting how similar the AI photos were the ones to that were released. Like, I don't know if it was like a leak, but also the first the first post that I saw of the AI shoes, the caption was in another language. Yes. Yep, yeah.

SPEAKER_06

So obviously that was a major tell. Yeah. Outside of the six O's in Brooks, yeah.

SPEAKER_14

Wasn't the the Bell shoe like leaked like weeks ago?

SPEAKER_06

Yes. I I think we commented about that a couple of weeks ago. And and and wasn't there even like an eBay posting or something like that? I guess somebody said that they couldn't.

SPEAKER_14

They were selling them already, yeah.

SPEAKER_06

Which which is odd. That person probably doesn't have a job anymore, but yeah.

SPEAKER_13

Well, you know what's gonna happen now. It in in a subsequent race weekend, they are gonna come out with a mered issue, and I'm gonna be shamed into buying it.

SPEAKER_06

I was gonna say we we we have an audio record of it now.

SPEAKER_13

Oh, goodness.

SPEAKER_10

But I think getting you in a in a red wig for a race weekend would be priceless.

SPEAKER_13

Oh, that could be in the future.

SPEAKER_06

We gotta work on that. Oh, you know who you could help uh style you is our buddy Kayla, our VIP. She loves Merida. So I'm sure Kayla would be right there in line to be able to gussy you up, uh, you know, to get you in in a proper fitting running costume with the hair so that when the shoes do become available, you can be first in line to buy them.

SPEAKER_13

All right, friends. So there we go. Uh hey, look, I mean the shoes are nice. So if you're looking for them, I hope you enjoy them. I hope you get the pair that you are looking for.

Springtime Surprise Medal Deep Dive

SPEAKER_11

Caution runners, the topic is about to change right now.

SPEAKER_13

All right, friends, let's continue with the theme we've kind of established the last couple of weeks. We're visiting with rise and run friends, and this week a good friend of the podcast for a long time. Our friend Kristen. Kristen of Running and Makeup Fame is back with us. A an esteemed member of the Council of Costumes, uh friend Kristen. Actually, you remember this, Kristen? I'm sure you do. You were with us in May of 2022, episode 32. Gosh, almost 200 episodes. We're in 231. Where have you been for these last 200 episodes, Kristen?

SPEAKER_08

Running. Nothing running.

SPEAKER_13

Well, you of course, like I like I said a second ago, you've been with us a couple times for the Council of Costumes. But the last we visited, the last I saw, my friend and intrepid hero, she was Battle Scarred from a rugged Disneyland half marathon. Kristen, I got a question for you. How are you doing?

SPEAKER_08

Well, you should see the other guy. No, I'm good. I had my final follow-up with my orthopedist yesterday, actually, yesterday morning, and got the all clear. Shoulder is good. Uh, the bone bruise on my elbow is is coming along nicely. They're not concerned about anything there. I got the clearance to start my weight training again, adding in the long miles. So uh road rash is is healed up and I'm almost good as new.

SPEAKER_13

Other than that, how was Disneyland?

SPEAKER_08

Other than my uh fight with the concrete, Disneyland was awesome.

SPEAKER_13

Wasn't it fun?

SPEAKER_08

It was it was it, it was a it was a quick trip. It was very intentional. So I got there Friday, went um checked into the hotel, waited around for the expo to open, went straight to the expo, got my bib, went into the park, had dinner, hung out on Saturday, cheered for the 10K, and then ran Sunday, fell Sunday, um, and then went home Monday. So it was really it was quick, but but just packed full of running and friends and magic and laughs and trips to the medical tent.

SPEAKER_13

Well, I know I kind of was a little lighthearted, but I am surely glad because I know you were banged up pretty good and not feeling all that well. So I'm sure I bet that elbow's gonna hurt for a while.

SPEAKER_08

That's what he said. He's he told me he said, a bone bruise, you're gonna this is quoting him, you're gonna wish you broke it. Because of that bruise just hangs around for a long time. And because of where it is, it's like where you rest your arm, like when you're driving, you know. Um, so it's just it's gonna, it's gonna take a while and that's okay.

SPEAKER_13

It's gonna be one of those injuries.

SPEAKER_08

You're gonna be fine, just gonna not feel anything, and you're gonna turn and you're gonna point that way, and you're gonna go, oh, oh, and then I'll have flashbacks of falling at mile 11.

SPEAKER_13

And me ignoring you on the course, apparently.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, you did, but that's okay. I didn't take it personal. So that is maybe that's why I fell. I was so hurt that you didn't it you didn't it didn't register with you who I was. That so daggone I'll show you, Bob, and about you know, seven miles.

SPEAKER_13

Golly, shame on me. All right. Well, look, my friend, I'm I really uh genuinely am glad you're doing better. That's thanks. Hey, you know, uh a couple weeks, maybe a couple months back now, I heard you on a fellow podcast, our friends uh AJ and Erica over at one more run, had you on. You talked about you had suspended your running a makeup channel for a little bit. Now, I'm not gonna ask you, you you explained to them what was going on there, but you got an update on that? Is it coming back or what are you thinking?

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, it's it's coming back. Um, just like with a lot of things, you kind of have to leave it alone and let it and let it sit and not do something. And then when you get to the point that you miss it, then you know it's probably time to to pick it back up again. So we're we're about at that point. I'm not I'm not gonna be filming anything for princess just because I'm choosing to only dominate the half marathon. And I want to be present in that because I'm also pacing somebody during their first ever half marathon. So I want the focus to be on her and not, I gotta grab all this stuff, you know. Um, so yeah, I I've got some some in the future goals that I want to work towards in regards to some proofs of time, some um non-Disney races that I will need to train for. And that will that will help pick that, pick the channel back up in that regard. I'm not going away from Ren Disney by any stretch of the imagination.

SPEAKER_13

It wouldn't be the same if you did.

SPEAKER_08

It's it's uh it's time to pick it back up and and train for for other other things, maybe some some major things, wink wink.

SPEAKER_06

Oh, we love subtle hints. God that wasn't very subtle. Now, for listeners who might not know 100% what we're talking about, I'll just give the reader's digest version here. Kristen, you suspended the channel temporarily because, and I think this is a very admirable thing. You wanted to focus on you, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. I commend you for doing it because, like you just mentioned, you have goals and you want to achieve those goals. And as we all know, it takes time to film, it takes time to edit, it takes time to conceptualize these videos, and that can take away from your training. So kudos to you for that. But the question I have for you is in that span from suspending the channel to this moment right now, obviously, since then, you know, you had Marathon weekend in Disneyland um under your belt. Outside of finally listening to me and doing the magic mile, what did you learn during the span of your training cycle from that point to right now?

SPEAKER_08

Well, the the magic mile is important. Is that the answer you were looking for? Was it Greg was right? Was that was that?

SPEAKER_04

That's what you want to do here.

SPEAKER_08

That's what he wanted. That's what you want to do.

SPEAKER_04

All I needed you to do is a magic mile and buy a gym boss. And you did those things and everything.

SPEAKER_08

And I did both of them. Look at that. And okay, fine. Um, no, but I let me, I just wanted to jump back for just a moment. Part of the reason that I did put the channel on on hiatus was to focus um on myself, as selfish as that sounds, but it wasn't done in a selfish way. But also it was because part of my family, part of my extended family is still dealing with um medical things that, as many of you know, I do have um a lot of medical knowledge. I work in a hospital, I'm a speech language pathologist, I work at a trauma center. Um, and there are some things going on in my um extended family that needed somebody with that sort of knowledge to help navigate um out of state. So being constantly filming, editing, I wasn't available to help walk them through what they needed to be walked through. Because a lot of this stuff, you know, medical-wise, you don't you don't know how to navigate it. Like Google only tells you so much. But when you've got somebody who knows about it, that's more helpful than anything. So that also played a huge part was that I just I needed to be available and present um for them. And in fact, a couple of times I did have to go to have to go out to Louisiana to to help do things there for them. So, but but the things that I learned while taking that break is how much my form and pace, I don't want to say suffer because that's not, it's it's um how much those don't reflect while I'm while I'm filming, you know, because I can't be running full out sprints and be able to have a conversation in the camera. Um, I can't, you know, flying the drone takes me stopping and setting it and then running and then stopping and landing it and putting it back in the case and then running on. Like that just it takes a lot to to get that footage. And I really was in the type of physical shape that I wanted to see what I could do. And so I put all of that aside, and that's when I started really focusing on getting faster, getting stronger, um, building up that endurance, all the things that you know everyone preaches about, um, myself included, I was, you know, actually going and doing it and seeing the results from it. And that was really exciting. So the 30-minute PR off my last marathon time was all I needed to be like, yeah, that was worth it. That was worth it.

SPEAKER_13

Wow. Yeah, it's all it's uh it's so gratifying when you see the fruits of your labor.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah. Yeah.

SPEAKER_13

Sounds great. I'm gonna shift gears, I think, a little bit here. And I'm gonna get out of uh certainly out of my comfort zone. And since I always have to remember, Greg alluded just a moment ago about backing up. I always have to remember that we have friends, we assume we know one another, and we've known you and I have known each other for a while. We you've known the Rise and Run podcast. I don't know that everybody listening is familiar with running and makeup. Can you give us a elevator pitch to tell some of our friends? Tell tell the two people who are listening who don't know what it is.

SPEAKER_08

Hello, two people that don't know who I am. Um, no, it's I'm I'm Kristen. I'm your what they would consider an adult onset runner. Um, running was punishment when I was growing up, and now I pay Disney and other other entities large sums of money to to run lots of miles. Um, but running and makeup really stemmed from a uh a love of of makeup and and and running. And I decided why not run in makeup? Like, why couldn't you do that? Why wouldn't that? Um so in the early days of the channel, there was some testing out of some products to see if they would run literally like run off my face um when I was running. And um, and then it just kind of became its own, its own little persona, you know, um, and people come to me for for makeup tips. I haven't done that in a while, but if you need any, I'm your girl. Um uh but it just became just I guess a uh a new a new identity for me um in the in the running and especially Run Disney space because I don't know of any other group of of runners who really, really uh wake up at at 2, 1.32 in the morning to put on a full face of makeup to go run a marathon. I know I do. Um Lexi probably does. I don't think Greg does. Bob I don't know. Yeah, not depends on if it's Tinker Bob or not, I think. It's it I was gonna say well Groot, you had you had you had makeup on for Groot.

SPEAKER_13

Groot, yeah, camouflage paint.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, yeah. So um, you know, it's just the occasional the occasional glitter lips. Can't forget, yeah, yeah, yeah. From Fluffy Fizzies, yes, yes. So, and some of the like I said, some of the early videos on the channel were of Teresa and I. The one that sticks off the most is where we were trying different lipsticks, but applying them while we were running sprints. And so at one point I had red lipstick like all around. Over I can imagine. And then up my the side of my cheek because like I tripped a little bit and it went like right up.

SPEAKER_06

Are you sure that wasn't like a cosplay of like Heath Ledger and The Dark Knight by any chance?

SPEAKER_08

It was not see the the goal of it was to do it the best, not to look like the Joker. And um that was that's one of the few videos that I still to this day can watch and will like wheeze laugh because it was just like just these two bunch of crazies out here running the trail putting on lipstick.

SPEAKER_10

So as someone who listened to you many, many moons ago, before before Rise and Run, before Passport to Run, I think one of the things that I loved most about your channel was just how real you were. And you know, it it you were so relatable because you know, I am an adult onset runner, and you know, um, I remember like you and your channel is what inspired Jack and I to do Passport to Run. And like from the core, like that was what's one of the things for me particularly. I was like, no, that's that's like where the birthplace of Passport to Run came from. Um, and then also just you know, seeing your journey going from um, I think I started watching you during COVID and you know, I guess getting to know you through videos that way, like you, you have just been a really big inspiration to me as a runner and as a person.

Guest Spotlight: Kristen Returns

SPEAKER_08

Oh, well, thank you. That means a lot. That's honestly that's why I started. That's one of the big reasons I started the channel. One of them was to be was honestly an accountability thing. And I've I've mentioned this before here and on other podcasts. You know, if I if I knew that four people were waiting for a training update video from me, and those four people were uh my parents, my brother, uh, my husband, and Teresa, who would be out running with me anyway. But if I knew that they were waiting for an update, then I would have to actually go out and do it and put the video together as rough as it may look. But I always wanted to be that accountability person, not just for myself, but it turned into being that for other people and showing them that it, hey, if if I can do this, you sure as heck can do this. And that's that's still been the biggest message is if I can juggle it, you can do it, you can juggle it too. Um, it may not be pretty all the time, but it's doable.

SPEAKER_10

I think you were the only channel I've ever had alerts on my YouTube for. Oh because I'm not a big YouTube, like I don't go to just watch YouTube. Jack is the one that's like always watching YouTube videos while she's running, while she's on the treadmill. Like, and I just don't watch YouTube like that.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah.

SPEAKER_10

Um, but yeah, you were you may still be the only one that I have alerts for. Well, maybe there'll be an alert sometime sooner rather than like ready.

SPEAKER_13

There you go. There you go. Hey, let's let's turn to some fun stuff, some things we all share together, some Run Disney. Let's start out. Hey, Kristen, what is your favorite Run Disney race weekend? And why?

SPEAKER_08

Oh, that's actually tough. It's tied, it ha it's tied. Um the sentimental part of me has to say princess because that's where it all started. Yeah, yeah. 2019. Princess 2019 was my first ever uh Run Disney weekend, and that started the it was supposed to be a one and done situation. And look, here we are. How many years later? But I think overall my favorite weekend is marathon weekend because that's been the site of some of my proudest personal accomplishments, like the marathon. Every marathon I've ever done has been at Disney. So it's just that's I think that's that's my that's my non-negotiable is marathon weekend.

SPEAKER_13

Yeah, fair answers. And and I I understand right off it is a tough question. I'm not sure. I would probably do something very similar to what you just did there, too, and say I can't can't answer it's like saying what's your favorite child? Who's your favorite child, you know, that kind of thing.

SPEAKER_10

So we know you in the Run Disney community. One one of the reasons why we know you is because your costumes are so amazing and so elaborate. Um I have, I guess, a twofold question. Um, one, what is your favorite costume that you have run in? And two, is there like a bucket list costume or something that you haven't run in that you're like, ooh, this is on my list of someday.

SPEAKER_08

Ooh, that's good. I think my favorite is a new favorite. My favorite most recently is the Joffrey's coffee cup that I'd ran during ran the half uh with during Marathon Weekend. That got, I'm telling you, that got so many bizarre looks. And then people like it dawning on people what I was that you know, everyone was like, oh, oh, well, that's cool. Um, and I ran with the coffee cup too. Um, so like I like I got used to running holding a camera in my left hand. So I ran with that coffee cup in my left hand the whole time, and it was second nature. Um, so I think that's my that's my new favorite one that I've run in. A bucket list one would have to be gosh. Um I want to do a another elaborate jolly holiday Mary Poppins. Mary Poppins is my favorite live action Disney movie. Um, I say live action with quotes since this is an audio podcast live action. Um and I've done it once before. I did it during Wine and Dine of 22. Yes. Um, but I want to do I want to do a like fully bedazzled, Jolly Holiday Mary Poppins, you know. Fred and I are in talks. And if you know Fred, you know he likes the rhinestones. So so you'll see it one day.

SPEAKER_13

Cool. Well, you you got an opportunity coming up, don't you? Don't we have a Mary Poppins theme?

SPEAKER_08

We do, but did I get a bib? No. So that may have to be an off-theme weekend that I bring that that I bring that one up.

SPEAKER_13

Yeah, nothing wrong with that.

SPEAKER_08

Which is fine.

SPEAKER_13

It absolutely is.

SPEAKER_06

All right, Kristen, let's go back to Joffreys for a second. Obviously, you're associated with Run Disney, you're associated with running in makeup. But if there's one thing that I like to you know tease you about is your connections to beverages in Run Disney or just running in general. So this is this is a a two-part question. Uh, number one is full disclosure here, I don't drink coffee, so I don't have any you know horse in the race here by any means whatsoever. Why Joffreys over uh Starbucks when it comes to Walt Disney World, that is?

SPEAKER_08

Not that I have a habit or that I know what this tastes like, but I'm pretty sure Starbucks coffee is like what motor oil tastes like. It's just real bitter to me, and I can't doctor it enough to make it not be uh disgusting. Let's just get real, disgusting. Um so and I've offended everyone now. I don't know.

SPEAKER_14

Well, I won't be seeing Starbucks on your channel anytime soon. No, you will not. You know what?

SPEAKER_08

Desperate times have called for desperate measures occasionally, but not often. Um, no, but uh Joffrey's just to me tastes better, and it's associated, affiliated with Disney. So it's that's always been my go-to in the parks. I will bypass that Starbucks on Main Street and go straight to Tomorrowland every time. Every time.

SPEAKER_06

So you would say that it's like one of those, like, you know, like a lot of people think, oh, Walt Disney World Dole Whip. For you, one of those affiliations is you know, Disney Parks and Joffrey's coffee.

SPEAKER_08

Yes. And I will say one of the one of the highlights of my life thus far was when Joffreys reached out to me and said, Would you like to collaborate with us on this? Um, it was a giveaway back when do y'all remember H2O products, the all the lotions and shampoo? It was back when they were still in business. So that tells you how long ago it was. But they reached out and were like, Do you want to collaborate with us on this giveaway we're doing? And we'll send you all this Joffrey stuff. And I tell you, I the smile on my face lasted for months on end because I was like, they know who I am.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, cool.

Injury Recovery And Training Wins

SPEAKER_08

They do now too, because of you know, running in their coffee cup. But um, but yeah, I thought you were gonna make me choose between Joffreys and my preferred beverage after a six-mile run.

SPEAKER_06

Thank you for for leading me into that question. Now, if there is one thing that I am an aficionado at, it is that of sodas. And I think you are the only person that I know that drinks Dr. Pepper.

SPEAKER_08

Really?

SPEAKER_06

I mean, I get into arguments all the time with friends, especially Tony. I'm calling you out specifically here, because you know, to me, it's all about the Diet Coke life and the Coke Zero. And then, you know, there's people like Jeff Galloway who talk about the best thing I like during their, you know, during a run is a de-phased Coca-Cola. But you're the only person I've ever known to talk about Dr. Pepper. So, number one, why that beverage? And then number two, where did the story come from that you will only drink it after, what was it, six miles or a 10 kilometers? Six miles or more.

SPEAKER_08

Six miles or more. So uh in the South, we love our Dr. Pepper, always have. Uh, where I went to college, I went to Baylor University, which is in Waco, Texas, also home of the Dr. Pepper Museum, where uh it's also in the same area that Dr. Pepper was invented, if you will. And every Tuesday and Thursday at Baylor, we could go into the student union building or the sub and get uh Dr. Pepper floats, which were uh Dr. Pepper poured over homemade vanilla bluebell ice cream. And so it's just kind of been ingrained that Dr. Pepper is it. You know, I I don't like the taste of Diet Coke. I I just I'm sorry, you will never have to fight me over Diet Coke, Greg, ever. Um, Coke Zero, that's another story, but Diet Coke, no thank you.

SPEAKER_06

Now, now bluebell ice cream, is this the same ice cream? I I remember a video of yours that you that you mounted a cow post-race or something like that. Okay.

SPEAKER_08

Sure did.

SPEAKER_06

All right, so now you know your next collaboration is you have to run that race again, get on top of that cow wearing a Baylor hat and holding ice cream and Dr. Pepper, and and the affiliations will be going through the roof for you.

SPEAKER_08

Well, I also thought uh Teresa and I had the grand idea that I should turn the Joffrey's cup uh costume into a Dr. Pepper bottle costume and you know run the bluebell race in it, two birds, one stone. So I like that idea. But that's but that's where it came from. And in fact, in college, um the sorority I was in, we would have formals at the Dr. Pepper Museum um there in town because they had this really cool venue outside of it. And anyway, so that's that's where it came from. And the reason that I put the own personal rule in place to not drink it unless I've run six or more miles is because that is something that I feel like I would just drink like three of a day, and that's not good, that's not healthy. Um, so I I only let myself do that after six or more miles. And yes, I do have little bottles of it in the room at Disney for after any 10k half or full.

SPEAKER_06

Because I was gonna say, they probably don't have that on the beverage counters and like the quick services. Okay, there you go.

SPEAKER_08

Not yet, but when I'm done with them.

SPEAKER_14

Okay, so Dr. Pepper. I do drink Dr. Pepper when I drink soda, Greg. So that was good. And I did remember seeing a documentary a couple of years ago. Dublin Dr. Pepper, have you ever have you ever tried that one? Or is it a difference?

SPEAKER_08

Yes, that you can taste to me, you can taste the difference because of the the sugar that they use in it, which is what makes it the Dublin, the Dublin variety. So you can actually get Dublin Dr. Pepper here in our grocery stores in glass bottles.

SPEAKER_14

It's a good documentary if you ever want to. Greg, you should check it out. Okay, because you're then you'll be a Dr. Pepper aficionado.

SPEAKER_06

That's right. See, it just it's too many flavors. What is it? 2 23 flavor, 23 flavors? No, not that that's that's that's too much.

SPEAKER_08

And you drink it at 10, 2, and 4.

SPEAKER_13

10, 2 and 4. I knew that. Pepper up.

SPEAKER_08

So come, here's the deal. You need to come to Texas to run either the Austin marathon or half marathon, what used to be the 3M half marathon, which was my first half marathon. Um, or heck, even the any of the Waco races, the Barathon. And then I will take you on a guided tour through the Dr. Pepper Museum.

SPEAKER_06

I would say you've taken me out for an old fashioned, but you never took me out for Dr. Pepper, but now we have something to do the next time. That's true.

SPEAKER_08

Waco's about an hour and a half north of me, so gotta make the plans.

SPEAKER_13

It does. Sounds like a good plan. Hey, Kristen, what character would you trust to do your makeup on race day? The fairy godmother? Tiana? Or Edna? Or you can throw in one of your own.

SPEAKER_08

I'm gonna say fairy godmother. Yeah, I think so, because she turned mice into horses and rags into a beautiful dress with lots of glitter, and lord knows I love a dress with some glitter. So yeah, I have a yeah, fairy godmother would do me, would do me right. So yeah, that's my answer.

SPEAKER_13

Stick and same question.

Why Pause And Revive Running In Makeup

SPEAKER_06

Oh, okay. No, I I have an answer for this one. I have an answer for this one. Uh, based on the three that you originally listed, I would go Tiana because uh I love all things New Orleans and she is a bayou goddess, and I would trust her um, you know, in terms of you know, not only making me look pretty, but then teaching me how to make some delicious uh Creole food. So there you go.

SPEAKER_13

There you go. Good one. Now, this is this shows my age or whatever. Edna's from the incredible, right? That's correct. No capes. She does not like capes. So there you go. I'm going with Edna. No capes, and maybe I get a mask and that's about it. Off I go.

SPEAKER_08

That's true. That's very true.

SPEAKER_10

Mainly because I feel like she's like the statement piece, like statement makeup, like boom.

SPEAKER_06

Keep it simple. All right. Well, John now John has to answer this question because everybody else has.

SPEAKER_08

This is very much out of John's wheelhouse.

SPEAKER_13

It's alright. It's okay. John can play the game. It's all right.

SPEAKER_10

We've got to get John and Greg in uh glitter lipstick at the next race weekend.

SPEAKER_12

Uh we don't have to see that happening, but that's okay.

SPEAKER_10

We've talked for years about getting the three of them in tutos, but it hasn't happened yet.

SPEAKER_14

Well, Bob got one into one.

SPEAKER_06

I've worn it. I've worn a tutu a couple times. I mean, I wore a tutu cheering Marine Corps, but that was only because Rachel threw it at me because it's about to say that wasn't of your own choice. Yeah, it wasn't my own choice. So, but you know, I I feel like that this conversation has turned into a bit of chaos, and we like chaos around here. But Kristen, do you have a chaos story from a race morning, whether it is makeup related or not, that still makes you laugh to this day?

SPEAKER_08

Yes, I I forget which race it was. Um, but it was it was a half marathon. And we I have two, one running and then one when I volunteered, but the one when I was running, we woke up. It had to have been during a wine and dine. Both of these instances were during wine and dine when the time change happens. And nobody can seem to master that. At least nobody that I've ever roomed with. And we woke up late and I had taken the insoles out of my shoes because I I run in different insoles, but only have one pair of them. I now have two after this incident. Um, but I had taken the insoles out of my shoes that I was wearing for the 10K and never put them in my shoes for the half marathon. And I didn't even have like the sock liner in the shoe. So it was just like nothing in that shoe except my foot. And um, it didn't dawn on me until we were on the bus going to the start line. And I was like, my feet feel so weird. And I thought I had something in my shoe. So I took it off and I like showed my shoe to Teresa and I was like, my insoles are gone. So I ran that whole half marathon with no insoles in my shoes. So that was not, that was chaos. It was absolute chaos. I felt horrible. My feet felt horrible. But um, the other chaos moment was in that same vein when I volunteered during the half marathon of 24 for Wine and Dine. And same thing, the time changed, and we had our friend uh Andrea picking us up, and Teresa and I were again rooming together, and we get this phone call. And Andrea's like, Hey, I'm outside of your resort waiting. Where are you? And we were like, What? We still have an hour. And she was like, try again. And it was one of those things where you had to meet out at ESPN and then you were bust back to where you were volunteering at. And if you missed that bus, then you missed your chance to volunteer. Like they, there was no second opportunity because then the road started closing too. So um, so we literally just threw on um clothes. We had to wear the same shirt we had on the day before. So um I think I ended up in a pair of uh running paint, like running tights and uh sweatshirt and no makeup at all, which being running in makeup showing up and no makeup was a little like, oh no, they're not gonna know who I am. Um, but that was chaos too. And it was so cold that morning, and it was just um that time change. I'm so glad they changed wine and dine so that we don't have to worry about that time change anymore.

SPEAKER_14

That's only temporary, I think.

SPEAKER_13

I'm I miss it.

SPEAKER_08

And at least for the time being. Yeah.

SPEAKER_13

Yeah. Hey, 2016 Wine and Dine Half Marathon, first half marathon I've run in over 25 years, did exactly the same thing you did. No sock liners, no insoles, no problem. So hey, our our shoes were lighter.

SPEAKER_08

That is true. That's a bit the way to find the silver lining, Bob.

SPEAKER_13

Way to find it. Why not? Why not? It all worked. Hey, we're you know, that the day that this releases will be at the expo.

SPEAKER_08

It's the it's expo day. Happy Expo Day to all who celebrate.

SPEAKER_13

That's right.

SPEAKER_08

It's the fourth event of Princess Weekend. Yeah.

SPEAKER_13

We'll get to see a lot of our friends, a lot of folks who, you know, we only see at race weekends. But let me ask you this question. What's the most surprising interaction you've had with someone who follows you as running in makeup?

Costumes, Coffee, And Dr Pepper Lore

SPEAKER_08

I, you know, I can't pinpoint one in particular, but a lot of conversations that happen are in the realm of you inspired me to do this, and I'm here because I saw somebody who looked like me who balances life like I do and is busy and all of that. And if if you can do it, you know, you said if you can do it, I can do it. And here I am, I'm doing it. And it's my first ever, this is my first ever Run Disney, or this is my first ever half marathon or 10K or even the 5K. And that's those are the most special interactions, hands down. And I've had I've had a ton of those, and I'm so thankful for those because you know, when people approach me and they say stuff like that, in my mind, I'm like, well, you're not one of the four people I started my channel for. And so that's really cool, you know, right that you just happened happened to find me and and I encouraged you. And I don't take that lightly. I don't take those conversations lightly. And I I love love meeting everyone and and hearing, you know, their stories and the things that they have overcome. Because just like Amanda said last week, when we're at that start line, we're all carrying something, we're all battling something. We overcame something to get there. And I love when when y'all share that with me because then I can help celebrate you through all of that and and champion you through those, not only the start lines, but the finish lines and the after party and uh Metal Monday and all of that, all of that. So I just basically I love all the interactions. They're my favorite.

SPEAKER_13

Beautiful. Beautiful. My suppose most surprising interaction was when a young lady turned to me and said, gee, I thought you'd be taller. And that's right, Lisa. I'm talking to you.

SPEAKER_08

I will, I do remember the first time I met you was in the bib hall part of the expo. And I remember saying to you, I didn't realize you were nine feet tall.

SPEAKER_13

Well, that's because the only other times we'd seen each other, we were two inches tall. Right, right, right.

SPEAKER_08

But I it's there are there are not many people that I have to very much look up to, and and you are one of them.

SPEAKER_13

Oh gosh, that's you know, that really makes me feel good that you admire me that much and look up. Oh, you mean physically? Or both, whatever makes you happy, Bob. All right, it's all good. It's all good. We do have fun, don't we?

SPEAKER_08

We do.

SPEAKER_13

Yeah, it's the only way to do it. Hey, love having you with us. Uh look forward to seeing you real soon. Um, we're not gonna let you go. We're gonna we're gonna jump on some quick answer questions before we let you get out of here.

SPEAKER_08

Okay.

SPEAKER_06

You ready?

SPEAKER_08

Let's do it.

SPEAKER_06

All right, Kristen. Most iconic park to run through, and why is it Animal Kingdom? Sorry I had to.

SPEAKER_08

So, for the two of you that don't know who I am, um, Animal Kingdom is my least favorite park. It's a half day park at best. I I stand firm on that. And my most favorite visits to Animal Kingdom have been when I'm running through them because those are my quickest visits to Animal Kingdom.

SPEAKER_06

So listen, after we're done going to the Dr. Pepper Museum, then I'm gonna have a PowerPoint presentation for you as to why Animal Kingdom is the best part.

SPEAKER_08

But then you digress, you should get into cahoots with my friend Ryan Miller because uh last princess he, or maybe it was two princesses ago, either way, he literally wrote out, not digital, wrote out on a post-it note our itinerary for Animal Kingdom that day. And we were checking boxes as we went, and it actually was fun. It really it was, but it's still at its heart, it's a half day park. On a post-it note, she was multiple post-exactly post-it note. No respect. There's three things to do there.

SPEAKER_13

No respect. All right, here we go. Quick answer glitter, yes, or absolutely yes.

SPEAKER_10

Absolutely yes.

SPEAKER_13

Ding ding ding.

SPEAKER_10

If you could run with any Disney character, who would it be?

SPEAKER_03

Hmm.

SPEAKER_14

You can't say Tinker Bob.

SPEAKER_08

No, that was gonna be my answer, but gosh darn it, I don't know now. Uh no, I think probably Bert from Mary Poppins.

SPEAKER_14

Okay, cool. Okay.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, because we'd be stepping in time just all all the time, you know?

SPEAKER_14

Okay, finished line snack you dream about.

SPEAKER_08

Not plastic cheese. Oh, come on. Fruit snacks.

SPEAKER_13

Fruit snacks. You you probably liked the hummus when it was in the box, didn't you?

SPEAKER_08

No, that was disgusting. Bob, how dare you?

SPEAKER_03

Wow.

SPEAKER_08

That was shots fired. Seriously, that's just fighting words. Outside of you ignoring me uh during Disneyland, that that's a very close runner-up to the most hurtful thing you have ever.

SPEAKER_13

I'm sorry. You know what I did. It's gotta be the Cheetos now. Well, but you didn't like the plastic cheese, man. That bothered me.

SPEAKER_08

No, I I cannot tell you the last time I ate the plastic cheese. It's been years. You can have mine. If I see you after a race, then you can have my plastic cheese.

SPEAKER_13

Almost everybody knows that. So I typically leave a weekend with 12 or 15 containers of plastic cheese. And I love you for it, gang. Absolutely.

SPEAKER_08

But I had a I had a somewhat rapid-fire question for y'all.

SPEAKER_13

Far away.

SPEAKER_08

Being being podcasters, I I have to know, are there any other podcasts that you're loving right now? Doesn't have to be running, just in general.

SPEAKER_13

Well, I already threw out uh one more run. I'm I'm really impressed with those. So I'm I'll stick with that.

SPEAKER_06

Um let's see. On the Run Disney front, uh, you know, I was gonna say we'll run for, but since they fired me, uh I'm yeah, I'll I'll I'll join Bob and say uh one more run. But from a non-run Disney perspective, um I I'm still a huge fan of Radio Lab. I uh from MPR. They just come up with some really fantastic topics of something that you know you would never ever think of, and it's such an intriguing story. So yeah, if you if you need something for your long runs, yeah, go check out Radio Lab. It's it's pretty awesome.

SPEAKER_10

I think I'm gonna have to go with the majority for the Run Disney podcast. One more run, definitely. With uh just Disney podcast in general, I really like Bring Back the Magic podcast. Um and then non-Disney. Kevin just got me into crime junkies, which I know I'm late to the game, but I really love listening to him.

SPEAKER_14

My newest one right now is one more one more run, but uh and my other one would be stuck in the 80s, which I don't know if I am or not, but I am. If you bring back the mullet, you will be. Yeah, I've got it's coming back. My my my my uh the girl that cuts my hair goes, I'm not getting I'm not letting you cut get a mullet.

SPEAKER_06

Have a talk with her.

SPEAKER_08

That's a challenge accepted moment. I I've rocked a Dorothy Hamill haircut for a long time, if you know what that is. So, you know.

SPEAKER_13

Golly, really? Are you old enough to remember Dorothy Hamill?

SPEAKER_08

I am. I turned 40 this year, Bob. Thanks for making me feel old. Appreciate it.

SPEAKER_14

She was 76, so your name was born.

SPEAKER_08

Well, I remember her because my mom sure did make me get a haircut like hers.

SPEAKER_14

Your mom must have.

SPEAKER_08

For those of you who are not old, that's essentially a bowl cut, which is why I will forever have my hair long.

SPEAKER_13

Yeah, she was America's sweetheart.

SPEAKER_08

I think my favorite uh podcast right now outside of the running community, Lexi, you'll need to listen to this one. It's called Paper Ghosts by um his name is M, like the initial M William Phelps. He's a true crime investigator and author. It's Paper Ghost carried me through the marathon. So um it's it's very good. And of course, one more run, AJ and Erica. Those are those are my big two, or big three, including y'all. So I alternate.

SPEAKER_13

I was waiting, Kristen.

SPEAKER_06

I just figured it was assumed. I know you keep ignoring her on the course, and it's definitely.

SPEAKER_08

I know, you're about to get knocked out of the top three.

SPEAKER_13

So oh gosh. All right, we'll have to make up for that. Kristen, it's fun. I it's always fun seeing you, whether it's here, whether it's at the parks, whether it's on the course. It's great. Thanks for spending the time with us. And uh look around. Look around. We're both at the expo, so look around.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, you'll be the you'll be the tall one.

SPEAKER_13

All right, travel safe, my friend. See you soon.

SPEAKER_08

Thanks, y'all too. Thanks again for having me.

SPEAKER_11

Caution runners, the topic is about to change right now.

Race Morning Chaos Stories

SPEAKER_13

All right, friends, it's time. It's race weekend, it's time for a rise and run tradition, the race weekend roll call for Princess Weekend. Let's take a look here. Our friend Rob does some great work in analyzing some numbers, and let's take a look at the numbers for this year for Princess Weekend. Looks to me like in 2026, it looks like another record number of entrants. Certainly in the 5k, we have way more than we've had in previous years. The 10k is about the same, the half is about the same, and the challenge is off just a little bit. But overall, looks like we've got more people in this race report than we've had in a long time. Let's I always like comparison comparing to the first year we did it with in this case was 2022, when we had a total of uh 54 people in the race report roll call. I don't have the numbers here, I didn't add them up. Let me do it real quick. 146 and 24 is 170, and 101 is 271. So that's a lot. We better get started, huh? Let's kick it off. Remember the rules. Join us and tell us all about the race. Next week will be the Princess Weekend recap. Hope you tune in and enjoy that. And now please stand clear of the door. It's time for a race report. The race report is sponsored by our friend Tom Stokes of Stokes Metabolic Training, Stokes. Tom's challenge is underway. We're into the second week.

SPEAKER_14

Doing okay. Doing good. Doing good. I'm happy. Because the last time I did it, I wasn't sore after I worked out as much. Yeah. So I know Yeah.

SPEAKER_13

Need to work harder, John.

SPEAKER_14

I know. I'm keeping up my workout being like totally crazy next week now.

SPEAKER_13

Well, I I I'm happy. I feel a little better. Uh I promised everybody I would weigh in and report. Uh last week, let's see. Last week I was at, I'll go and give you the numbers. Last week I was at 269.8. This week 267.4. So I'm down 2.4 pounds. That's okay. That's the good news. The bad news is I'm heading to Disney World for five days. I don't have a chance.

SPEAKER_14

With 500 cookies in your car, right, Bob?

SPEAKER_13

500 cookies in the car. I have done very, very well with not rating the cookies. I'm telling you, it's a challenge. But uh that's what we're on, right? We're on Tom's six-week challenge. So why not? All right, it's working. Let's take a look at the race report, friends. We've got a weekend event in Las Vegas, Nevada, the rock and roll Las Vegas weekend. There were a couple of events, a 5K and a half. Tracy did both the 5K on Friday and the half on Saturday. Actually, Tracy was with a group of friends. They dressed up, they were Disney Princess Showgirls for the 5K. Great photos. Looked really good, Tracy. Nicely done, you and your friends. Now for the half, a lot of the folks in the group turned it down. They're going to go for some PRs. Tracy opted for a bit more costume teeming with a friend. They went as Siegfried and Roy. How appropriate for a Las Vegas race. Took it at a fun pace so they could stop for photos, absorb the sights and sounds of running the strip at night. Tracy loved it. Just might do it again next year. Chris was there. Chris from Hawaii did the half only. Great wait, great race weather in Vegas. Heading down to the end of the airport and past the welcome to Las Vegas sign to begin, then turning around for a long seven miles down to downtown. Running down the strip at sunset was really cool. A lot of crowd support, a lot of music, not only from the race stages, but the stripside restaurants, bars. Chris knocked this one out in two hours, 24 minutes, a five-minute PR. And gets to keep his Run Disney proof of time for a few more years. So let's move to Saturday in Ocala, Florida. They ran a thing called the Painted Horse Urban Ultra. About a 55K give or take. Here to tell us all about it. Our friend Hannah. Hannah, welcome to the Race Report Spotlight. How you doing, kiddo?

SPEAKER_07

I'm doing great. Happy to be here.

Princess Weekend Roll Call

SPEAKER_13

Happy to be here. Happy to be inside and warm instead of outside in bitter cold central Florida. People from the rest of the country are going, cold? You kidding me? And you know, they're they're all excited to come join us here in a couple of days. Oh, yeah. Yeah, so we're glad you're here, Hannah. Thanks for taking the time to join us and spend some time on the podcast. Um, you know our standard, we we love to ask this question because I love getting different answers. You know, I asked, heck, I asked this question of Med when he came on to visit us. How did you get started running?

SPEAKER_07

So I started running two years ago. I was, you know, getting ready for work and I started getting flooded with videos from um Marathon Weekend. And it was the first time I I had seen people enjoy running because I hated running in high school, hated running in elementary. And I was like watching all these people having the best time of their lives. And I started thinking, I could do dopey.

SPEAKER_03

Right off the bat, boom.

SPEAKER_07

Um, so I backed myself off from that and like, let's start, let's train for a 5k. We have a cruise coming up, we're gonna go to Castaway Key. Let's train for that first. And so I started training for that, and I haven't stopped since.

SPEAKER_13

Good for you. You know, I think I don't know, they're up here. I really think Castaway Key was my first real Run Disney event, too. I think I'm not sure. I always say it was wine and dine in 2016, but Castaway Key may have been first, and that counts, right?

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, yeah, definitely. Why not?

SPEAKER_13

We used to get a rubber rubber medal. I think they still do. Yes. Yeah, yeah. All right. Well, good. So we're we're glad you're with us now.

SPEAKER_14

The race is called the Painted Horse Ultra in Alcala, Florida. Can you tell us about it? Because I see a lot of horses. Yeah.

SPEAKER_07

So um Ocala has a bunch of horse statues all around uh the place. And they're they're painted, hence the name Painted Horse. And so they're in front of imported buildings such as like hospitals, schools, um, some historic buildings, stuff like that, or like the police department. And so the race director, I listened to a podcast recently from hers where she came up with this route, I think, in 2019. And you don't see all of the horses on this route, but on the you know, the book or the guide, there was 50 horses we were supposed to go see.

SPEAKER_14

Wow. Yeah. What's the deal with alcala and horses?

SPEAKER_07

Is there anything we're technically the horse capital of the world?

SPEAKER_14

Okay.

SPEAKER_07

We claim to be at least. So a lot of the horses that you see um at the Kentucky, Kentucky Derby, um, they get trained and like bred in Ocala, and then they go and race over places.

SPEAKER_13

It's surprising, John, how much ranch uh uh cattle ranching and horse ranching there is in Florida. We don't think about it, but it's all in the interior part of the state. The state's amazing size.

SPEAKER_03

Interesting.

SPEAKER_07

So we have the whole um the World Equestrian Center here that got built a couple years ago. And so there's a lot of horses.

SPEAKER_13

So tell us how the race went, Hannah.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, so uh it was a really hot day that day. Um, I think afterwards they told us it was the hottest day of the year so far. Um, at least in Florida. Yeah, it was.

SPEAKER_12

Yeah.

SPEAKER_07

So we had been training um the woman who I ran it with. Um she and I had been training in really cold weather for Florida, I should say. And so we had no time to fully acclimate to eight, suddenly 88 degrees. So it was a long, hot day. It took us I I think over 12 hours. I'm not sure. My watch died after 25 miles. And so it just was really long, not a cloud in the sky. So, but we I had a good time doing it. It was my first um ultra in that regard. And so I was always I was chucking along thinking, this is great. It's a PR no matter what for me.

SPEAKER_12

That's true.

SPEAKER_07

I've never done it as soon as we get over 27 miles. This is the farthest I've gone. And uh so I really enjoyed that. Another part of it was we had to navigate through all the vocabula. So my favorite bits were I had my pieces of paper with all my directions on it, and having to tell everyone, all right, we're gonna take a left in like 0.2 miles, everything. So there was a parch, like a point of the time where between like 15, um mile 15 and mile 20, where I was having a blast because my brain was occupied the most of the for most of that time.

SPEAKER_13

Yeah, I I noticed in the report you gave us you made an important decision at about mile 13, didn't you?

SPEAKER_07

Yes. So the you know, the shorts I was running in, I uh, you know, I had trained in them and I was like, I might have a bit of a chafing issue. It'll be fine. I'll put a bunch of like, you know, body glide on it, it'll be great. And it was not working. I had it in my pack and could not, for the life of me, get comfortable. And so around mile 13, I um the I decided I'm changing my shorts. Another woman I was running with, her husband was crewing us, so he would meet us at different places. And so we got to one stop with a bunch of horses. And I'm like, okay, I'm changing my shorts. Uh the two ladies put up some towels and we're like, all right, do it. I became a new woman. I was happy again.

SPEAKER_13

Yeah, good.

SPEAKER_07

I was having a great time after that.

SPEAKER_13

Good, good. I got I got a little nervous when you said I was I'm gonna change my shirts and I was running with another woman. I thought you were gonna change with her. And that was no, that wouldn't be good.

SPEAKER_07

No, I had a drop bag, which was very mind goes sometimes.

SPEAKER_13

Something wrong with me. Um but but yeah, that helped and that worked. That was very smart. Good for you.

SPEAKER_07

Yes, look, someone had told me, yeah, bring an extra pair of clothes just in case.

SPEAKER_13

All together, how far did you wind up going?

SPEAKER_07

Well, I think 32 miles, so about a 51k. We just got to I think mile 28. The race director looked, she started crewing us at the end. I think she looked at um uh my friend and I and saw, oh yeah, we've been out in the elements for 10 hours at this point. And I think she looked at us and be like, yeah, we need to wrap this up. We'll let's cut out two miles, we'll still give you the medal and everything, it'll be great.

SPEAKER_13

But you're disappointed.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, very, very disappointed. It's kind of like you know, marathon weekend where those two miles got cut off.

SPEAKER_14

Yeah, that really broke my heart. I'll tell you. I I I had suffered through those two. John did them.

SPEAKER_13

I did get cut off at the marathon.

SPEAKER_07

You did get cut off at the marathon?

SPEAKER_14

No, I did not. I didn't I did not get cut off.

SPEAKER_07

Gotcha. I didn't either, but I took the lightning lane. And I took the lightning lane at this race.

SPEAKER_14

No, it was like that it was like that half marathon two years ago where they it was this half of the half, which I wasn't I wasn't too uh what do you call upset about either. One to other well, it's gay.

SPEAKER_13

First ultra. First ultra? Yeah, congratulations. Obviously a PR. Yes. What kind of goodies and swag at the end?

SPEAKER_07

So it was a really play very like self-funded race almost. So I got a medal. If you can, you know, you hear the clinging.

SPEAKER_12

Yes, you can.

SPEAKER_07

Yes. Um, so I got a medal, um, no shirt or anything. Um, but not not a whole lot of stuff. There was some stuff at the very beginning you could have gone in, but I didn't grab anything by that point. But I mean the race in total was only$25.

SPEAKER_12

Oh, golly.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, so that's what helped convince me to do this.

SPEAKER_12

Yeah. You gonna do it again?

SPEAKER_07

Uh if it's a colder day, maybe.

SPEAKER_13

Oh, it almost has to be. I mean, it could still be warm, but it's gonna be that. You you're right. I remember it now. Saturday was record high. Yeah. So yeah, what the heck? Uh, what's up next? And when do we see you at Disney again?

SPEAKER_07

I honestly don't know. I part of me really wants to sign up for Dopey because I feel like the stars are aligning.

SPEAKER_13

Well, this would this be would this be your first Dopey?

SPEAKER_07

It would be my first Dopey Yeah.

SPEAKER_13

She threatened to do it once before, remember?

SPEAKER_07

Yes.

SPEAKER_13

Wisely decided not to. We did it ultra, so it's yeah.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, it'll yeah, just a couple more miles.

SPEAKER_13

Uh you got but you got a couple more days to do it, too.

SPEAKER_07

Exactly.

SPEAKER_13

A couple more wake-ups, though.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah.

SPEAKER_13

Well, Hannah, thank you for taking time to join us. We appreciate you for doing that.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, I had a great time. Good.

SPEAKER_13

And we look forward to seeing you down the road somewhere.

SPEAKER_07

Yes, definitely.

SPEAKER_13

Continuing on Saturday in Howie in the Hills, Florida. Yes, that is the name of a town in Florida. The Advent Health, Howie in the Hills, 5K, 10K, and Half. Debbie was there for the half. Donna and Trevor did the 10K, as did Yvette. First time for this one for Yvette. Very run-walk friendly. Beautiful course along a lake and the Howie Mansion. Amazing sunrise. Got hot pretty quickly after that. Saturday, as we talked about with Hannah, it was really warm in Florida. Uh, let's see, training over the last few months and the heat and some were a factor. Yvette's from Delaware. It was 30 when she left, so she really wasn't ready for this warm weather. Did 10:30 intervals, took her time, felt great, and would definitely do it again because once you've been to Howie in the Hills, you just gotta go back. It was a big race weekend in Tampa, Florida, and I'm going to uh refer to it several times, I think, as we go in and out. But on Saturday, the Gasparilla 15K was run. Uh, wonderful expo at Gasparilla, one of the best. Saw I'm going to say our friends, but people who have been on the podcast. Meb Kavleski, the great American marathoner, was there. And our friend Fitz Kohler was the race announcer. Both of them were at the expo. Uh, Robert ran the 15K, as did Jen. Now, Lori did the 15K and the 5K. Broke two hours in the 15K. Very good. Uh skipped to the 5K finish line with Fitz. If you've ever been at a race with Fitz, you'll know that she does come down off the announcer's booth and finish with some of the racers. Uh, Lori's husband Peter did great with speed walking the 5K. Lori loved the weather. Said it was perfect for a northern girl, loved the sunshine and the warm temperatures. It was warm on Saturday, a little rainy on Sunday, as we'll get back to here in just a minute, I believe. Also on Saturday, Gulf Shores Alabama did the We Run This Beach Marathon. Aaron was there, ran the 10K on the weekend. Our buddy Rob did two races. One in the morning in La Belle, Florida, the Calusa Humane Society Swamp Stump 5K. Did it with his puppies, Beckham and Ash. Ash finished third. Beckham fourth amongst the dogs. Rob managed an age group win and a sub-28-minute time for a 5K. Beer and a glass from the LaBelle Brewery afterwards, along with some peanut butter treats for the pups. Rob came back in the evening in Fort Myers, Florida, running the Edison Festival of Lights 5K, dressed as Captain America. Did you see the pictures? Rob's got a Captain America outfit with is he holding a Thor hammer?

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, uh Melnior, yeah. Okay. All right. Listen, his Marvel costumes are so good. He I think he was dressed as like Thor when he was on a bender in uh I think it was Avengers Endgame, I think. His costume was so good. He came up to me during Marathon Weekend. I didn't recognize him. No, I that happened to me sometimes. Yeah, until he started speaking to me, and I was like, oh, okay, it's Rob. Yeah, so his Marvel costume game is always on point.

Race Report: Vegas To Florida

SPEAKER_13

Yeah, that's a that's a fact. See, I'm not, you know, I'm not up to it. I don't know, but I'm impressed with that, Rob. Hey, look, Rob got to chase David for uh the first 5k at for all the whole 5k at the Edison Festival on Saturday night. Great crowd along the route as the race precedes. They have a nighttime parade on the same route. Now let's take a look. I think I got the rest of the Gasparilla races here. It's not going to surprise me if I repeat some. But there are four races total at Gasparilla. There's a 5K, a 15K, an 8K, and a half marathon. And there's time so that you actually can run all four. And we're going to see here that we had a couple people who did. Oh, one more thing. At Gasparilla, you do not PR. You PR. So let's see. Let's look at the 15K. Uh, Jennifer did it. Coming from Baltimore is a bit of a temperature chock, but kind of nice to run in the sun. Course was fun. It's a beautiful course. It's flat. She was feeling good. She pushed herself in the second half. Well, this was her first official 15K, which is on automatic PR. It felt like a PR. Happy to stay in Tampa through the weekend, but they're heading back to the snow. They're already back. Roxanne was there. First time running the Gasparilla 15K, had a blast. Beautiful views. You run along Tampa Bay. Fun energy from the volunteers and the crowd. Fireball along the route. Krispy Kreme Donuts. Best part for Roxanne getting to meet up and run with several running friends. Definitely a race she's going to do again. I'll interject here at this point. I missed this weekend mostly due to my own fault. I will not miss it next year. All right, running the half, Laura Ann did what's called the Berg to Bay Shore Challenge. Didn't I live here? Didn't know they had that. If you run the St. Petersburg Running Festival, it's like a week or two prior, and then run this one. Bay Shore Boulevard is the name of the road that most of the half marathon takes place on. So there is a Berg to Bay Shore Challenge and a medal for that. So, first time for Laura Ann do this. Also the first time that she fell at a race. She fell coming off a bridge at mile five. Got patched up by the Maddox, managed to finish. Adanya did her first gasparilla half, started towards the back since she knew she was going to take it easy because of the hot and humid weather, but she knocked it out. Kevin and Brian were there. First four model, first four miles. You're on the dark roads, yeah, of Davis Island. It is kind of dark early on until the sun comes up. Come up over the bridge onto Bayshore Boulevard. It's gorgeous now. The sun's coming up. Straight out and back on Bayshore. Last few miles got a little hot, but Kevin pushed through. They had big sprinklers going every few miles, help the runners keep cool. Kevin shaved another seven minutes off his previous PR from November at the St. Pete Run Fest. Finishing 147.14. Hot diggity. That's a great pace, Kevin. Kevin's husband got a new PR as well with a 205. Claudia also ran. PR'd the half by 20 seconds. Running the half, Kaylee, Robert, Kayla, and Stephanie. Now running all four races, they call that the Gasparilla Ultra Challenge. Mostly because Michelobe's the sponsor, Michelobe Ultra. But uh it's tough because there's really not a lot of turnaround time. So it can be done, but it's a challenge, which is why they call it a challenge. Margaret was there, as was Jared. Jared loved all four races, even if it rained during the 8K, it was actually kind of refreshing. Uh, most special part of this one was he got to run it with friends and his amazing daughter, Lily. Lily completed her first challenge ever, 5K Saturday, the 8K on Sunday. Didn't complain, just got it done. And at the end, who can't beat a Columbia 1905 salad and rice and beans after a race? Little explanation. Columbia is a famous Cuban restaurant in the Tampa area. Their 1905 salad is terrific, typically made table side if you go there for dinner. So it's a great way to end a race. Heather was there for her first Gasparilla distance process. If she's going to do it, she might as well do all four races. PR both the 8K and 15K. And only missed it by a minute on the half. Got right back out for a second race after finishing. That's kind of a new thing for her. Logistics a little bit tough, but got it done overall. A great race. Let's see. The Ultra Zero Challenge is the 5K and the 8K. John did that one, as did Lily. And then you got the Mick Ultra Infusions Challenge, the 15K and the 8K. Ellie did that. Saturday was warm. Sunday, cloudy and rainy. Actually, a little more comfortable on Sunday. First time doing a challenge for this weekend and would do it again. She might make it a different combination next time. Highly recommend the whole race weekend, as do I. It's a great weekend. It's a great destination race, really. The Gasparilla. Hey, come on down, run the Gasparilla in Tampa, then head over to Disney World, run Princess. I think, I think it's going to be the same way next year, where they're not on the same weekend. Previous years they've been on the same weekend. Let's go to Sunday. Had a couple races there in Pearl Land, Texas, the Pearl Land Half Marathon. Nick ran that one. Heidi ran the great Stew Chase 15K in Lynn, Massachusetts. First time doing it. First time running a 15K. That's uh PR. 50th anniversary of this event, and they announced that it's the third oldest 15K in the United States. Chile in Massachusetts, the low 30s, but the hot stew at the end made it more worthwhile. And what the heck, you're doing the great stew chase. Might as well finish up with a nice hot stew. Out in San Diego, California, Jennifer ran the inaugural Navy 10 miler. Channel channeled her inner Jeff Galloway to push through to the end. In Las Vegas, while the marathon was going on, Lace was involved in a high rocks race. This is a challenge that involves a 1000 Mi ski erg. I believe that's a push of a weighted ski. A 50-meter sled push, a 50-meter sled pull, 80-meter burpees broad jump. That's just what it sounds like. You do a burpee, and then you do a standing broad jump, and you continue till you've done 80 meters, a thousand-meter rowing, a 200-meter farmer's carry, a 100-meter sandbog, sandbag lunges, then you end with 100 wall ball squats, and you run a kilometer between each one.

SPEAKER_06

Sounds like fun, doesn't it, guys? This is the latest rage in fitness, so much so to the point that at my gym, they have now designated a whole area to all of the different types of equipment that you need if you want to train for a Hyrux. Wow.

SPEAKER_13

This is the first I heard of it.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, I I it's probably I I want I don't know how long it's been around, but I know like my neighbors who are some of the most physically fit people I've ever met before in my life. I know they're training for one and hoping one comes to the Philadelphia area. And I see it all over my Instagram feed. Yeah, it's it's quite it's quite the thing. Some of it seems really intriguing, uh intriguing, but the the moment that I saw the amount of burpees that you had to do, I was officially out because I hate doing burpees.

SPEAKER_13

Yeah, it's a lot, but looking at what's on the list, uh that may be one of the easier parts. It it looks tough, but Lace did it. She knocked it out. Way to go. Saw some photos. She looks great, by the way. She looks very fit. So congratulations on the hard work. She finished with a time of 153. Not where she said she wanted to finish, but she's still proud of how she did. It's her first time doing it. She says the sled pull was a kill, killer. Her favorite part were the burpees, but her soul nearly left her body when she had to do the 100 wall ball squad. Watts at the finish. She completed in the women's open slash solo division, and Lace says she is hooked. Well, that's great. I think that's fantastic. So congratulations for that. Let's go to Grandville, Ohio, where they ran the Tim Buck Winter 5K at Tim Buck Farm. Kayla and Austin ran it. Cold race, some light snow. Running through the Christmas tree farm, though. Snow felt just perfect, right on theme. Able to warm up in the greenhouse after the race with a free soup, some hot chocolate, and some coffee. And in Connecticut, the lake Waramog Polar Bear Run. Stephanie ran it. This winter tradition brings hundreds of runners together to circle the lake and raise funds for guiding eyes for the blind, the guide dogs. Which makes it extra special because she got to run with her own dog, Navy, and I believe Stephanie's training Navy. I believe that's right. Uh definitely not her fastest race since her running partner had to stop and pee on every bush around the lake. But at 7.8 miles, it was his longest run ever, and a new PR for Navy. So here you go, Navy. And there we go, my friends. That's it. That wraps up the race report for episode 231 of the Rise and Run podcast. Friends, and if you run, you know you are our friend. It's been our pleasure spending the time with you this evening. If you're heading to Disney World, we hope you have safe travels. I hope to see you there. I sure hope we get to get together at the Saturday afternoon meetup. Haven't missed one yet. Don't want to start now. So have fun. Until then, happy running.
