234: From Pixar to Princesses: Animated Madness Begins!
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
Registration day doesn’t just test your internet speed, it tests your nerves, your backup plans, and who you can text when the queue refuses to move. We share exactly how the Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend sign-ups played out for our crew, including the moments that went sideways, the workarounds that still worked, and the community trust that helped multiple friends land the races they wanted. We also break down the sellout times and talk about what to do if you got shut out, from charity options to alert tools, plus a clear warning about social media scams claiming they can “transfer” bibs.
From there, we shift into one of our favorite traditions: Rise and Run March Madness. This year’s bracket is all Disney and Pixar animated movies, seeded using Rotten Tomatoes scores with Patreon votes powering the play-in games and acting as the tiebreaker when our panel splits. Expect soundtrack love, nostalgia, a few surprise upsets, and plenty of opinions you will want to argue with on your next run.
We wrap with a full race report and a standout spotlight featuring Holly, who takes us through the New York City Half Marathon with New York Road Runners. She covers the Javits Center expo, start-area logistics, the cold morning that turns into perfect racing weather, and the unforgettable stretch over the Brooklyn Bridge into Manhattan, Times Square, and Central Park, plus how she clocks a new PR.
If you’re training for runDisney, planning destination races, or just want smarter prep, this one has you covered. Subscribe, share with a running friend, and leave a review with your hottest bracket take.

Training Calendar And Race Countdown
SPEAKER_08Cool. Magicboundtravel.com is the website. Check them out. Hey friends, let's take a look at the training schedule. Not a lot going on. Springtime surprise four weeks away. We are getting there. My goodness. Didn't we just didn't we just do uh the Disneyland Halloween just a couple weeks ago? And now we're looking at four weeks till we get to Springtime Surprise, the last race of the season. Uh training week 14 on the training schedule. Uh if you're doing the challenge, one mile walk, four-mile walk, ten mile run walk. We're getting close to that last simulation, which will come two weeks from now. I'll mention it last week, mention it again here, real quick. We're getting closer, but six weeks out from Flying Pig. Uh, that's another Flying Pig and Burden Hand are uh events that a lot of Ryzen Runners show up to.
SPEAKER_14If you're in the Bob, would you say they're Run Disney adjacent?
SPEAKER_08I I know somebody who would. It's a lot of fun. We get a good group there. Not the biggest non-Disney group we get is Burden Hand. No question about it. By the way, I put that on the did you see the Jeopardy question? I put it up on the Facebook. Oh, yes, yes, yes, yes. Yeah. I was happy to see that. I I don't know how many rise and runners were shouting out the answer when they saw that. I know this one.
SPEAKER_14By the way, John, speaking of Burden Hand, uh, I got a message this week from our friend Tracy, uh, who ran the race last week. She would like us to investigate the idea of Rise and Run Burden Hand merch. So we might have to have a uh a team meeting about that one. You maybe figure out a way to have like a camel, you know, like maybe like eating some chicken like under a tent or something like that. It's gonna be fabulous. Bring your ribs back too, hopefully.
Training Updates And Hydration Lesson
SPEAKER_08Well, anyway, before we get to Burden Hand, which by the way is 176 days away. Just not that I'm counting, but it is. It's 176 days out. Uh flying pig, we'll see a bunch of friends there. Uh discount code FPM26RISERU 10. And as I mentioned last week, if you're in the military, P Papa Whiskey 26 Mike India Lima, 20% off. I hope to see a bunch of you there. It's a it's a fun race. And uh I'll be trying to keep up with Alan, which is is a challenge. You know, the the the veteran master runner, uh it's it's fun. We have a good time. And you get pizza with him, right? I think pizza was his big thing last year. Yeah, yeah. He he got a whole pizza pie last time. There's a local place, golly. If you're from the area, you'd know it. I can't remember the name of it. It'll come to me later in the episode, and I won't remember. But yeah, Alan finished towards the back of the marathon and they had all these pizzas left over, so instead of handing him a slice, they just handed him a box. And it's good pizza, too. It's a fun weekend. It's a fun weekend. Hope to see a bunch of you there. So with all those races, and we've been uh training. Let's see how the gang's doing on training updates, getting ready for the end of this season and some of the summer season. What's new with your training updates, friends?
SPEAKER_07I actually went out for the first time since uh marathon weekend to to train for better late than never for uh springtime surprise.
SPEAKER_08Have you been a little banged up or has been the weather bothering you? No.
SPEAKER_07A lot of other things too, but uh uh Well, yeah, of course, John, of course. Yeah. So uh uh the weather was and the weather was a little shaky for some times, but you know, but I I still walk a lot with work and uh other stuff, so I'm not like a couch potato since marathon weekend, but I, you know, got my first real run-in. So it was good, it was better than expected. How'd you do, Alicia?
SPEAKER_03Um, it went really well. Mentally, I wanted to go at least six miles, but um I had been dealing with some um tightness in my shoulders from stress at work. And so um between that and a little minimal back pain, I decided to cut it um shorter than that. But overall, it went well. Um I'm hoping that I can get some more training in. I also Oh, you will. Yeah, I will. Um, I also did my own kind of strength training yesterday um with some limitations, just body weight type of stuff and some stretching. Um so I'm I'm trying to work back into doing stuff again. That's good. Yeah.
SPEAKER_08That's good. That's good.
SPEAKER_06So this past week was my first time running since Disneyland and Marathon weekend. So I ran the marathon at Marathon weekend in January. I ran the 5K and 10K at Disneyland, did not train anywhere in between or after that. And um man, I got lazy. Uh, but that's normal. Yeah, I mean, it it's the winter, it gets really cold, and in my case, extremely bipolar. It's been like lows of 28 this week, but a high of 81 later this week makes no sense. And um, I went on my first long run. Um technique, I know my straba doesn't say it, but um my my run split into two because I was answering a call on my watch and I pressed something during my run and it basically ended my run and I had to restart it. But I did eight miles and it was rough, like I could just tell I had not ran in a hot second. And boy, did my body say hello. And um I'm trying to get back into it because um I don't really have any races that I can use as proof of time. Like I do have proof of time races, but not for the corral that I want. So I'm gonna try for a marathon, a half marathon at the end of April. I haven't signed up for yet because I just want to get a few more weeks in to make sure my body's like, yes, I'm getting back onto it with the training, see how it goes and go from there. But um, if I do, it's a downhill race. So I just don't want to hurt myself.
SPEAKER_14Wait, wait, hold on a second. We we have breaking news here. You researched a race.
SPEAKER_06I know. Well, I got bored at work, so I just like I made a whole calendar of races.
SPEAKER_07So now you're admitting you were goofing off at work?
SPEAKER_06Oh god, yeah. That's okay. Contract job, they don't listen to this.
SPEAKER_08Boss doesn't listen to the podcast, right?
unknownRight.
SPEAKER_06But um, yeah. So uh yeah, so I I think this is good. I even looked at the elevation profiles, like it can't be all downhill, and it's not I'm so proud of you. Thank you. Yeah, I don't know what to expect other than it has 2,000 feet of elevation loss. Look at them apples and yes, yeah, black drop.
SPEAKER_08I've never done I've never done one of those. I know Coach Twiggs did one time, and he he talked about how surprising it is that when you get into a race like that, when you get on level ground, it's hard. It's hard. You feel like you're going up. Yeah, you're used to coming down so much, but I think you can train for it. I'm sure, I'm sure. That's a lot of stress on the uh quads, too. Yeah, yeah, it can be, yeah.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, it says the first seven miles are predominantly downhill, and then it's kind of soft rolling hills at the end. So we'll see.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, but you'll train for it, Jack. And I'm sure I'm sure you do a good job.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, I'm gonna try and get up tomorrow morning before work. We'll see how that goes when the alarm goes off.
SPEAKER_08I understand. I understand it's especially if it's the weather's not good.
SPEAKER_06No, it's I think it's supposed to be four 38 or 40 degrees or something.
SPEAKER_08That's a nice that's a no-go. Yeah, we'll see. Greg, you have anything you wanted to pitch in?
SPEAKER_14You know, training has been going just fine for me. Uh, I haven't been able to hit the 400s as much as I wanted to. Again, you know, putting in a lot of factors of just busy at work and work travel, and of course, you know, I feel like that's the theme this winter is just the you know, the one extreme or the other in terms of weather. You know, so obviously, you know, that plays a factor into it. But overall, I'm happy with where I'm at. I am uh gearing up for you know a busy spring race season. So uh I'm hoping I'm gonna hit my goals, but again, not to create undue pressure onto myself. I'm gonna limit in terms of what races I'm doing and the and the goals that I've set for myself and not sharing that here on the podcast as of right now. But um actually, to be honest, more of my focus has just been on helping uh my lovely bride uh getting her prepped for her first uh 10k at springtime, and she is doing a phenomenal job. We did uh what did we did four and a half miles the other weekend, and she absolutely killed it. And uh the the fact that Riley keeps uh telling her what her average pace needs to be. Uh I make sure to listen to her as well, too, to make sure that she's hitting those goals and she's doing a great job of it. So I'm I'm really proud of her.
SPEAKER_08Honestly, it doesn't surprise me. I mean, I'm glad to hear it, and I'm proud of her, but uh, I'm not surprised by that. I I'm sure Meredith takes this seriously and I'm sure she's working hard at it and she's gonna do great.
SPEAKER_14My my favorite is when we do run together, uh, we both go on holler hype at the same time, and then it kind of goes into a competition in terms of who gets more hype, or um, apparently there are some people in Holler Hype who uh like kind of like throw me under the bus a little bit. Like at one point somebody said, make sure Greg's not working you too hard or something like that. Hollywood? No, uh no, you would think you would think has not done that. Uh yeah, but you know, it's a good guess, though. It's good, it's good banter, though.
Marathon Weekend Registration War Stories
SPEAKER_08So yeah, it is. Uh tossing a quick little training update. I just want to tell my friends, I get two things. First of all, this idea, and I hear it from a lot of our friends right here, that when you finish dopey or some other huge goal, it's normal to have a letdown. We do it all the time. One thing is we figure, okay, I finished dopey, I can do anything now, and I don't have to train that hard. Not quite true. Not quite true. You got to get back there and get get training again. But don't let it don't let it get to you. Just get through it. Get back out there and training. Uh, I've been able to do that. The other thing that I am guilty of as I get older, and you would think I'd be smarter than this, but the truth is I'm just not that smart. I do dumb things. I just take runs like 10, 12, 15 miles for granted, and I shouldn't. It's silly. So I I went out, I didn't eat anything. I had 15 on the schedule, did not eat anything before, had a cup of coffee. No, I didn't even have a cup of coffee. I think I had a glass of water. Headed out. I do have places on the trail where I can stop for water. So I'm not trying to do all this without any hydration. And I do take some nutrition with me, but not enough. And what happened to me Saturday? I got in a dehydrated condition where my blood pressure started to drop. And that's not smart. Everything's all well that ends well, of course. And that which does not kill us makes us stronger. Is that no isn't that the saying is? Well, I don't know if I'm stronger, but at least I'm not dead. So so just don't, don't, you know, don't be like Bob. Okay, be smarter when you go out for your long runs. So there you go, guys. There's our training updates for the week. Caution runners, change of topic ahead. Big event today, earlier today, day of recording, not day of podcast release, was registration for marathon weekend. And golly, it sure was fun. It was exciting, it was an adventure. Who would like to kick it off with their story for registration weekend? Registration Tuesday.
SPEAKER_14I think this has to start with our registration hero today.
SPEAKER_03Right.
SPEAKER_07John Okay. I I helped uh three of our hosts get into racing today. Uh-huh. Yes, he did. I three. Three of them he helped. Three of them. Not four. He had his own help.
SPEAKER_13Yeah.
SPEAKER_07I offered the help. You were already getting helped, I thought. I did. I'm just giving you. No, no. So I lucked out again. I mean, well, I'm I was already in for the marathon. I signed up for a charity with the marathon uh l last week, not knowing what was going on going on with my mother. I said, I'm just getting the race I want, so I know I'm in. And if anything happens and I can't make the registration day, I'm in for what I want. But today, you know, I had to get in anyway because I'm doing the 5K. Becky pulled my wife out of retirement for the 5K. So I had to get my wife and me in for the 5K. I got in in about 14 minutes. Uh Jesus Christmas.
SPEAKER_06Uh I've never, never.
SPEAKER_07I got it. Because you know, Bob, Bob gives me the good mojo in the beginning.
SPEAKER_14You know, John, I have a fantastic uh fundraising idea for you. You whatever computer you use to register for the races, you need to raffle that off. And I'm sure you will hit your your fundraising goal in no time flat. Or or that or your IP address. Just auction of those two things off.
SPEAKER_07Sell a stick of memory and uh make my fundraising goal. Uh no. But yeah, so then I was done. I said, I'm good. Anyone need help? And boom, Greg comes up to me and says Can I call you? And and I got Greg, then he goes, Can Jack call you? I said, sure. But Jack's was easy. We already had her credit card number, so that was easy to do.
SPEAKER_04Now you have all of it though. You have all of the digits.
SPEAKER_07Yes. And then I got Alicia called me, got Alicia in. So uh I got the rest of the gang in for marathon weekend, and you guys can share what you guys are in for.
SPEAKER_03John helped me get into the marathon. So I'm very, very grateful and excited for that. Will be marathon number 10.
SPEAKER_06And um, John also got me into the marathon. I you know, someday I'm gonna count whatever races I've done. I definitely haven't done 10 though, so that's awesome.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, but you will. At some point you will.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I've also done some little bitty ultra marathons, like no big deal.
SPEAKER_07Oh you get almost four marathons in one race.
SPEAKER_06Right. I don't count that. That's a different distance.
SPEAKER_13Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_14Uh, and then John, my uh my fairy bib mother, I guess I I could call you, uh, got me into goofy. And let me tell you, we got darn lucky because we'll we'll go over the sellout times here in a little bit. But by the time John hit submit, goofy sold out about two minutes later. So I got darn lucky because my original A plan was I mean, I had a ton of windows open, I had my phone, I was using my daughter's iPad, and nothing was moving.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, nothing.
SPEAKER_14About I want to say maybe 25 to 30 minutes in. I finally had one thing go under an hour. And then I was chatting on the side with our friend David, and he was like, I'm down to like a half an hour. So as soon as you know he got him and his wife in, he they were gonna get me in next. But I mean, David, I love you to death, but thank God I didn't go with you, and I went with John instead, because if not, I would have I would have completely missed uh missed out on Goofy. I'm sure I could have come up with a plan B, but you know, in terms of what I what I truly wanted, so I know we'll talk about this in a second, but that that zoom call today, what what a cacophony of chatting on the side, forgetting to go on mute, almost putting out people's credit card numbers. But even though at times it was mass hysteria, it was such a beautiful, beautiful thing to watch by the Bob. I I figured you you you'll probably want to talk about that more uh yourself.
SPEAKER_08Oh, it makes me very proud. Makes me very proud of this Rise and Run family. The way they pitch in to help one another. Uh, it's it's tougher than it was in previous races, but we find a way, and it's it's a sight to behold. It really is. It's fun. We have A good time together, but it's it's stressful. I think it eases some of the stress, doesn't get rid of it, but it gives a chance to talk about it. And yeah, you're right. I'm I'm listening and I'm muting people as I hear them start to discuss. All right, what's your address? What's your okay? That's enough. You don't need to share any more of this. Uh but I got a I got a great deal of help myself. I was, I think I had one that had gone down to 20 minutes, but things were starting to sell out. And I should make notes because I should recognize my friends who do this, but somebody sent me a link. And the link worked and had like two minutes. It oh golly, it may have been Mark. And if I'm wrong about it being Mark, I still feel good about it because Mark was helping a whole lot of people. Um I got in, I went all the way through, I registered for two 5Ks, me and Becky, and a marathon. Number 10 for me, also, Alicia, but you're gonna do many more than I do by the time we're all finished. Um I go to pay and I get a message, there's try there's a problem with your credit card or whatever. I don't even that's not the right wording. Well, there's nothing wrong with the credit card. I'd use it earlier on something. So I said, All right, I get another credit card out, and I put those numbers in, and before anything happens, I look down at the bottom, and that little line that says there's a problem with your credit card didn't clear. So it still says that. So I go all the way out, I re-register Becky for the 5k and make sure she's in. So I've come through the process again, and I get to the pay line, and I look at the bottom, and before I put anything in, says there's a problem with your credit card. Oh, golly. Well, that's when my my friend Rob jumped in to help out and said, Hey, call me. I've got a live link right now. And we did just what Greg was talking about earlier. I said, Yes, Rob, here's my American Express number and the personal code and all that. And a whole lot of friends did that. It was good, it was uh I don't know. I'm I'm I'm always proud of the Rise and Run family, but it's times like this.
SPEAKER_14Yeah, I I think the part that impresses me the most is as a community, how quickly we're able to pivot. Because you know, think about going into you know, wine and dine registration just a month ago, you know, the idea of okay, it's real easy to share the QID, pass along the link to help out a friend. And the fact that Disney or Run Disney was able to bury that within code now that makes it it exponentially harder to be able to go and and share it. Obviously, you know, the pivot turned real quick because you know, once you're you know, once your QID is called, you know, and you register it yourself, you're still at the front of the line, and you can you know go ahead and register other people. And that's how it starts, you know, it started with, okay, hey, give me a phone call, let's get you registered, and then we'll transfer over the registrations and stuff. And you know, the fact going to this registration, even though you know, I know Mark was you know, demonstrate, okay, this is how you inspect the code and and everything like that, a majority of the people were going with that trustworthiness of, you know, here's my cell phone number, here's the information. And it never threw anybody off. I mean, sure, it's stressful to begin with, but it didn't, I felt like it didn't add extra stress into the situation. It's just we know that we have such a tight-knit, trustworthy community that we're all able to help one another out and just pivot on the dime like that. I think is so impressive.
SPEAKER_08It is. Again, makes me proud. Now, not everybody got in. If you didn't, we'll talk about it maybe more in upcoming weeks, but there are charity bibs available. There uh the uh telegram uh announcements when the race opens back up. One quick comment, and I think Greg or someone alluded to it already. Oh no, John alluded to it, uh, that uh Becky and Diane are out of retirement. And I I talked about this last week, about how it was suggested we do Mary Mary Bobbins was the original suggestion, and the penguins from the movie Mary Poppins. During the Zoom call, I said, you know, I think it might be better. I'd I'll do it, but I I think it would be better if I go as Bert. And someone said, Will Becky go with Mary Poppins? She already has her costume.
SPEAKER_13Oh my gosh.
Sellout Times And Safer Backup Plans
SPEAKER_08Her wig arrived today. All right. So so we're registered and we're ready to go. And we're excited about it. Hey, hey, let's go over the let's take a look at the sellout times. I think it's interesting.
SPEAKER_14Yeah, so sellout times, uh trust me, uh, I did not have this on my bingo card. Uh the first race to sell out was goofy. Yeah, it was a surprise. That happened in 41 minutes. Yeah. Then the next race was the 10k. That took 47 minutes. Then it was dopey at 63. Then we had the half and marathon were pretty close to one another. Half was 72 minutes, marathon was 75, and then the 5k was the last thing in the sellout at 81. So there it goes to show that this is truly the expanded field. And now the question I wonder is if it took that long and it was the last one, how big is this 5K field going to be? But that's that's gonna make wine and dine this year very, very interesting. But the part that I found really intriguing because you know, I remember our comments after Wine and Dine, and you know, the comments throughout the Run Disney community was like that registration was really tough. That was a bloodbath, that was, you know, I felt like the Hunger Games. Believe it or not, these registration times are pretty historical.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, they're pretty close. Yeah, except for that 5k.
SPEAKER_14Correct, except for the 5K. So, you know, again, 5K this year was 81 minutes. Last year it was 44, and the 5K was the first thing that said. But everything was really close. 10K, uh, and again, this is comparing today to last year. 10K 47 versus 52, half 72 versus 80, marathon 75 versus 74, goofy 41 versus 52 minutes, and then Dopey was the closest. This year was 63, last year was 62. So again, even though it was stressful, it it again it lined up pretty darn close to last year.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, they're all within 10%, except Goofy was almost 20% faster. And of course, the 5k is almost twice as long this year.
SPEAKER_06I don't understand that one. Well the 5k which one the goofy, like I don't understand how that one was the first one to sell.
SPEAKER_07I know also it's the anniversary year of the half. Well, yeah. I think that might have helped it a little bit, or they cut back on the goofy bibs.
SPEAKER_08That's possible. We we don't know.
SPEAKER_14Well, I you know what John, I I I don't think you're too far off there because I was starting to work on my backup plans in case you know I I got shut out and I I reached out to our friend Mark over at Give Kids the World because you know, my plan B was I was gonna, you know, raise money for them on a charity bib, but their goofy was was sold out. Wow, and he had told me that they were putting more focus on half marathon bibs versus goofy bibs because of the anniversary. So I I don't think you that's pretty sound logic. And but at the same time, I think one of the reasons why it probably went the quickest is one, you know, Jack, you and I joke about it every year. It's that one little booth, you know, when we go to pick up our bibs and stuff. So clearly there's not many registration spots for it to begin with, if they can shove it all into one little measly booth. But and then I think the other thing that no, I think this is a little bit more far-fetched, though, is yes, this is the anniversary year for the half, and you know, there's the big impetus on Donald infiltrating into all the race weekends. But you know, the comment I made to you, Bob, during the zoom today was I remember they were making the special note because of the half anniversary that Donald was going to be featured on the metal with Goofy. So maybe that was a little bit of a push to to get people there. But who knows?
SPEAKER_07Who knows? Could be and I thought the 10K was gonna go first, personally. But it pretty much did go first. It went pretty quickly, yeah. Pretty pretty quickly because I know a lot of people were saying, Yeah, I like the 5k, but Chippendale, I gotta go with Chippendale. You know, I mean, a lot of people I know went were were doing their their their plan was 10k and 10k and half instead of 5k, which you know that's a good plan. Yeah. Any plan's good, yeah. You got it.
SPEAKER_06And I just want to mention, I know Lexi's not here tonight, um, but she got in for the 5k and the half, and she called me debating like, should I do the 10k? Should I do the 5k? Should I do the half? I don't know. I just want to do only two. And um, she's like, but Chip and Dale is like, but you never get to do a 5k, do a 5k and a half. So I convinced her.
SPEAKER_07Good. Yeah. And like Bob said, the telegram alerts are out there. Uh go to Team Run Diz. Matt over there does a great job, has the telegram alerts, he's got the Twitter alerts. Uh, he's got a couple different feet ways to get your alerts. I mean, whatever process you have. Yeah, and he also has a really good uh charity bib uh binder. So sure does, yeah. It's pretty good. He's a good guy over there.
SPEAKER_08So uh yeah, he's been on the podcast a couple times. He really is a good guy. Yeah.
SPEAKER_14Hey John, and speaking of Matt and Team Rundes, there was one thing that I did want to bring attention to uh uh everyone that and and this actually came from Matt's account on social media. Um, apparently, because of how sought after this race weekend was, there are unfortunate bad actors out there that are trying to, I think, try to scam people. Uh so there is a social media post that is going around right now that says, Hi all, I'm looking to transfer as I can't take part due to a knee injury. If anyone is interested or missed out on securing the bib, please, praying hands emoji, please send me a request. Thanks. Clearly, we all know that you know, in Run Disney, you can't transfer bibs to you know another person's stuff. So clearly, that is a massive red flag. But anyone that is new to this community know that bib transfers are not a thing. If you see something like that or you're approached by someone with that type of request, stay way far away from it. 100%.
SPEAKER_06Kind of surprised they're already claiming injury right after registration or 10 hours away.
SPEAKER_14Maybe they broke their finger or they hit their knee on their desk or something like that.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, that's pretty wild. Well, of course, friends, we hope we hope that you got what you wanted. We know that some people did get shut out. There are do not give up. There are other avenues to get in, and we'll probably be talking about them in the coming weeks.
SPEAKER_07If you didn't, even if you didn't get in and you think because like we know toward the end of the race season, when it gets closer to the thing, a lot of bibs do open up because people don't make their fundraising. Uh, so a lot of fundraisers do open up back then. So if you think you want to do the marathon, if you think you want to do the half, try to get yourself in that kind of shape ready so that you know, come December and the bib opens up, you're kind of ready.
March Madness Bracket Rules Explained
SPEAKER_09Caution runners, the topic is about to change right now.
SPEAKER_14All right, folks. I mention it every year. This week is one of the greatest weeks of the year because for uh today of release and tomorrow, my butt will be sitting on a couch from about noon until 10 p.m. each night with two televisions and watching as much college basketball as possible. But we know that there's several forms of March Madness, and it's something we've adopted here at the Rise and Run podcast. Two years ago, it was attractions. Last year was table service restaurants, and this year we are going with Walt Disney and Pixar animated movies for our March Madness. Uh, so I I think this is gonna create a lot of hot takes, uh, and interesting banter, and I think that's what makes these episodes so great. So we're gonna get into it soon. But um, you know, for all the uh the bracketologists out there, uh, so in case I catch crap on social media, I just want to give a reference point as to how these uh movies were seated. Uh so the first thing is we have four regions. Region one is movies that were released between 1937 and 1979. We call do we call that the Bob region? Yeah, sure. We can call that the Bob region, sure. Uh I'm in that region too, Bob.
SPEAKER_08Okay.
SPEAKER_14So what we're gonna consider that our upper left um part of the bracket, in the lower left part of the bracket, uh maybe we could call this the din Disney Renaissance era bracket. Um, this is gonna be films released from 1980 to 1999. Then in the upper right quadrant of the bracket, we have movies released from 2000 to present day, and then in the lower right is Pixar films.
SPEAKER_07Can we change the other bracket to the Vault error?
SPEAKER_14The Vault era? Okay.
SPEAKER_07The big white white, the big white box error.
Classic Disney Matchups And Upsets
SPEAKER_14Yeah, there you go. I love the VHS tape error. Yeah, absolutely. Oh, yeah. Now, in terms of how the movies themselves were seated, I just went by, I Googled um you know Disney movie ranking, and I found awesome lists by the website Rotten Tomatoes, which is known for their movie rankings, and even for these older films, don't ask me how they aggregate these scores, but they did come up with a Rotten Tomato score for even movies released back in the 30s and such. So essentially it just went in numerical order based on when the movie was released. So we got all the particulars out of the way. Obviously, the NCAA tournament always starts with the first four, and uh, so those were our play-in games, and so we had one play-in game in each bracket, and that was voted on exclusively by our Patreons. So I just wanted to go over those results real quick. So in um the 37 to 79, we had the Aristocats versus Robin Hood, and Robin Hood won that with 55% of the vote. Then in uh 80 to 99, we had the Black Cauldron versus Oliver and Company, and Oliver and Company won 71% of the vote. 2000 to present day was Treasure Planet versus Meet the Robinsons, and Meet the Robinsons uh took it there with 66%, and then in Pixar was Incredibles 2 versus a Bugs Life, and Bug's Life won there with 54% of the vote. So those were our first four games in. So I I think what we're gonna do, we're gonna kick it off in the Bob era bracket. So these are movies released in 1937 to 1979, and the way that we're gonna do this is uh because we have an odd number here tonight, I'm gonna abstain from voting unless Bob says I didn't see either of those movies. Then I'll pretend to be Bob, and then the tiebreaker will go to our Patreons. So, Alicia, I'm gonna start with you. Our first matchup, the one seed Pinocchio versus the 16 seed Robin Hood.
SPEAKER_03Pinocchio.
SPEAKER_14Pinocchio, okay. Jack?
SPEAKER_03Pinocchio.
SPEAKER_14Okay. Robert.
SPEAKER_08Saw them both. Greatest Disney song. When you wish upon a star came from Pinocchio. So this is a no-brainer. Pinocchio.
SPEAKER_14All right, so it moves on, but John, how would you have voted?
SPEAKER_08My boy Jiminy's in it.
SPEAKER_07Jimmy the cricket baby. Yeah. Pinocchio.
SPEAKER_14And here's the crazy part is clean sweep there, but our Patreons, believe it or not, this would have been the biggest upset of the tournament. Robin Hood would have won 61 to 39%.
SPEAKER_06But Pinocchio's scary with that whale. Have you been on that ride? That ride is scary. Yeah.
SPEAKER_08There's something, you know, for a little kid, there's something to what you say, yeah.
SPEAKER_14Absolutely. All right, John, we'll start with you this time for our next game. The eight-seed lady and the tramp versus the nine-seed sleeping beauty.
SPEAKER_07Okay, so Lady and the Tramp, you know, that's that's my uh that's my go-to right there. Because eating spaghetti. Tony's restaurant, the whole nine yards. Okay. Bob?
SPEAKER_08Two fine movies, uh, but again, I'm going with the classics, and I would go for Sleeping Beauty here. Okay. So one.
SPEAKER_05Wait, Sleeping Beauty. Yeah. Well it's between Beauty and the Beast.
SPEAKER_14No, Sleeping Beauty and Lady and the Tree.
SPEAKER_05Oh.
SPEAKER_14All right. We're gonna come back to Jack and Willisha we'll get your vote first.
SPEAKER_03I would have to go with the dogs.
unknownOkay.
SPEAKER_03Lady and the tramp.
SPEAKER_14Lady and the tramp. All right, Jack, now that you've had a little bit more time to think about it.
SPEAKER_06So I recently watched Sleeping Beauty and forgot how amazing the movie is, but Lady and the Tramp.
SPEAKER_14Alright, so Jack, with that vote, that means uh when your moon hits the eye like a big pizza pie. Lady and the tramp moving on to the round of 32. Alright, next matchup. And Jack, I'll come back to you on this one. The five seed, Dumbo, versus the 12 seed. And this I think is a tight contest here because you always have those 12-5 upsets potentially. The 12-seed, Peter Pan.
SPEAKER_06So I have Dumbo, stuffed animal on my bed because he's just so adorable. But I really like Peter Pan, so I'm gonna vote Peter Pan.
SPEAKER_02Alright, Bob. How about you?
SPEAKER_08Um I recall seeing Dumbo at elementary school at some, I don't know, back in the day when you could rent the films actually, you put them on a film projector. So I saw Dumbo. Peter Pan, uh sentimental reasons, Peter Pan was released the same year I was born. And it's got Tinkerbell in it. So I gotta go with Peter Pan.
SPEAKER_14Alright, so Tinker Bob going with Peter Pan, John. I I never grew up, so I gotta go with Peter Pan. There it is. There's the 12-5 upset that we were all waiting for. But Alicia, how would you have voted?
SPEAKER_03They're both really, really good movies, but I actually would have gone with Dumbo on this one.
SPEAKER_14Interesting.
unknownOkay. All right.
SPEAKER_14Well, Alicia, we'll let you start on this one: the four seed Fantasia versus the 13 seed The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad.
SPEAKER_03Again, both great movies. Um I'm gonna go to hell and go with Mr. Toad.
SPEAKER_14All right, excellent. Love it, John. Mr. Toad. Mr. Toad, okay, Jack.
SPEAKER_06Greg, you get to go vote for me because I've never seen either.
SPEAKER_14Okay, that's good. So uh so my vote here, I am going to go with Fantasia because I am a classical music junkie.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, and I'm the same, Greg. And it was uh it was revolutionary for its time, that movie. And so I'll go with Fantasia so we get to kick it to the Patreons.
SPEAKER_14All right, we kick it to the Patreons, and with 76% of the vote, the dancing hippos of Fantasia move on to the round of figure two. Cool. Alrighty. Our next matchup here in the uh first part of the bracket here the sixth seed Cinderella versus the 11 seed. Seed, Alice, and Wonderland. Oh. Jack, why don't you start?
SPEAKER_06I know these are the animated, but I really love the Cinderella live action. I just have to put that out there. I think it's one of the better live actions. Um, but still, I'm gonna choose Cinderella.
SPEAKER_02Cinderella? Okay, Alicia.
SPEAKER_03Cinderella is a classic and a great movie. I really like Gus Gus, but I like the whimsicalness of Alice in Wonderland, so I'm gonna choose that one.
SPEAKER_08Okay, Bob. Yeah, a difficult decision between these two. And sitting here, I think I will uh side with Alicia and go with Alice in Wonderland.
SPEAKER_07Okay. John, what do you say? And I think we've got another upset coming here because Alice in Wonderland's my choice.
SPEAKER_14Alice in Wonderland, we're having a tea party, and the Mad Hatter moves on to the round of 32.
SPEAKER_03Very merry-hunt birthday.
SPEAKER_14Very good. All right, next game here: the three seed Snow White and the Seven Dwarves, the OG animated Disney future film versus the 14 seed The Rescuers. Bob, why don't you start? Hi, ho, hi, ho. Okay. Alicia.
SPEAKER_03That makes me want to cry. I I love Dopey so much, but I would watch the rescuers with my grandma in her bed when she would babysit me, and so I have to go with rescuers. That literally makes me want to cry.
SPEAKER_08Absolutely. Nostalgic uh recollections. Yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02All right, Jack. Which one are you going with?
SPEAKER_06I mean, between the two rescuers movies, I know we're not calling rescuers down under, but it's literally one of my favorite Disney movies. I do like the rescuers a little bit more than Snow White.
SPEAKER_14All right, two for rescuers. John.
SPEAKER_07It's a tough call. I mean, you go with the classic Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, but the Rescuers, come on, Bob Newhart. You gotta go with Bob Newhart.
SPEAKER_14All right. So a big upset. The rescuers take down Dopey and the rest of the gang to move on. All right. Now, personally for me, I think this is the toughest matchup in this region. And Jack, based on that reaction, we'll start with you. The seven seed Bambi versus the ten seed jungle book.
SPEAKER_04Oh.
SPEAKER_14You okay, Jack?
SPEAKER_06Oh no. You know what? I'm gonna go with Bambi.
SPEAKER_02Bambi? Okay. John.
SPEAKER_07Uh I saw both these in the movie theater, actually. So uh did you really? Yes, I'm old.
SPEAKER_06When did Bambi come out? Wait a minute.
SPEAKER_07No, no, no. So back back in the day what they did a lot of times, like when they did the like movies like Gus and uh the Apple Dumpling Gang and Return to Witch Mountain, they used to have like a cartoon before like a double feature. So they had a cartoon and a show. So that's how I saw these in the movie theater. But yeah, so I gotta go with Bambi.
SPEAKER_13Oh yeah.
SPEAKER_14All right. Now, Bob, don't spoil the movie of what happens, but which one are you going with?
SPEAKER_08Well, I'm gonna surprise you actually, I think, because I'm gonna go with the jungle book.
SPEAKER_02Okay.
SPEAKER_08Again, I a lot of these I love the music in them. And uh that's why I'm going with the jungle book. Okay, Alicia.
SPEAKER_03Are you sure this water standard Terry? It looks questionable to me. I'm going with jungle book. I say that literally on a weekly basis.
SPEAKER_14All right, so we got another tie. It goes to the Patreons with 73% of the vote. The bare necessities of life. We'll start with you here. The two-seed 101 Dalmatians versus the 15-seed, the Sword and the Stone.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, Sword and the Stone came later. I I remember it more with my son than anything else. But 101 Dalmatians, that's in my wheelhouse. Plus, they got Cruella Deville, and we already were the Dalmatians, so there you go. Absolutely.
SPEAKER_07John? I was a big King Arthur fan, like Camelot and all that other stuff. But I mean, 101 Dalmatians, you know, that's that's the classic. Alright. Alicia?
SPEAKER_03I gotta go with the dogs again.
SPEAKER_14All right. The puppies move on, but Jack, how would you have voted?
SPEAKER_11Woof, woof.
Renaissance Era Debates And Soundtracks
SPEAKER_14All right, clean sweep. All right, excellent. All right. We'll move down to the next portion of the bracket again. These are movies released from 1980 to 1999. Uh, so maybe we'll call this the the Millennials bracket, since these are the films that um, you know, at least myself, Jack, and Alicia grew up with, and John and Bob maybe took their children to. So we're gonna start here the one-seed Bob, Aladdin versus the 16-seed Oliver and Company.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, I saw them both. Um Aladdin's great. I mean, uh, Robin Williams is the uh genie. Come on. So it's Aladdin for me. Okay. Jack?
SPEAKER_05A whole new way.
SPEAKER_14All right. I love all the singing in this episode. It's beautiful.
SPEAKER_03Alicia This is a hard one. I like both movies a lot. I guess I'm gonna go with Aladdin because I would if I had to like re-watch it over and over again, I would choose that one over Oliver and Company.
SPEAKER_02That's a good reason. All right. John, just out of curiosity, uh, do you go Billy Joel in this one, or are you sticking with it?
SPEAKER_07I was thinking, I was thinking about the Billy Joel thing you said a long time ago with me. Yes. What's the airport for? Well, he said, Oh, John, I remember something like Billy Joel for some reason.
SPEAKER_14Oh, it was when I was I when I was on the Run Fit Fab podcast, and they asked me to associate a Disney character with each each and one of the co-hosts, and I said that John reminded me of Dodger from Oh, yeah, yeah. You did say that.
SPEAKER_13Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_14Watch you out, whereay!
SPEAKER_07I mean I got it's a it's a okay movie. I mean, I was uh out of my age group bracket for that one, but I did see Aladdin more, so I will go with Aladdin.
SPEAKER_14Okay, so clean sweep and a friend like me to the round of 32. All right, Alicia, you'll be first here on the 8-9 matchup, the eight-seed Hercules versus the nine-seed Hunchback of Notre Dame.
SPEAKER_03Oh, God, that's hard. Both really good movies again. Um, I'm still gonna have to go with Hercules.
SPEAKER_14Hercules, okay, Bob.
SPEAKER_08I will also go with Hercules here.
SPEAKER_14All right, Zero the Hero, John. I I'll go, I'm gonna go with Hercules also. All right. Jack, how would you have voted though?
SPEAKER_06If. If is good. Hercules.
SPEAKER_14All right, wonderful. All right. Next matchup: the elusive 512, the five-seed Mulan versus the 12-seed fox and the hound. John, we'll start with you. Uh I'm probably gonna go with the Fox and the Hound. Fox and the Hound, okay, Bob.
SPEAKER_08Sticking with characters I've dressed up as, and I can't always remember their characters.
SPEAKER_14Oh, you were uh that's right, you were Shang Li at one point.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, right. So I'm I'll go with Mulan.
SPEAKER_14Okay. I know how Alicia's gonna vote, so Jack, I'll go to you next.
SPEAKER_06Dude, I I will say this. I saw Fox and the Hound for the first time in college. I balled my eyes out. I was with some friends of mine, and I cannot believe that I hadn't it took that long for me to see the movie because it's great. But Mulan.
SPEAKER_02Okay. And Alicia 100% Mulan.
SPEAKER_14All right. Let's get down to business. Mulan, moving on to the round of 32. This one I think could be one of the more lopsided matchups in the bracket, but we'll go with it anyway. And John will start with you first. The four-seed, the Little Mermaid versus the 13 seed DuckTales, the movie Treasure of the Lost Lamp.
SPEAKER_07Uh, I would go with the Little Mermaid because I've seen that a lot more. And I mean, I can probably know that whole story again. DuckTales is good. I mean, I remember when my sons were watching it, but I'm gonna go with The Little Mermaid.
SPEAKER_02Okay, Alicia.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I I agree with John. Like, I when you first said DuckTales, like obviously the theme song DuckTales came in my head, but I'm gonna go with Little Mermaid.
SPEAKER_02Little Mermaid, okay. Bob.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, uh constant theme, no pun intended, back to the music. Uh I love The Little Mermaid.
SPEAKER_02Jack. How would you have voted?
SPEAKER_06So Little Mermaid is my sister's favorite movie. She I think she actually even wore out the uh VHS tape of it when we were younger. Um, she she's my older sister, and I and I watched it with her, and I'm I do love The Little Mermaid as well.
SPEAKER_14All right, look at that stuff, and it's pretty neat. It moves on. The Little Mermaid to the round of 32. All right, next matchup here. Alicia, I'll start with you. The sixth seed, Tarzan, versus the 11th seed, the great mouse detective.
SPEAKER_03Oh, wow. Oh, shoot. Did I quote the wrong movie before? That's what you're thinking about? What movie? What did you quote? When we were talking, what were we talking about before?
SPEAKER_08Um Oliver and Company.
SPEAKER_03No, when we talked about Jungle Book. Oh, I think I quoted the wrong movie, but I would have still chose Jungle Book, but I think not my quote goes with Tarzan. Um because yeah, I'm pretty sure. Anyway, what was the other one?
SPEAKER_02Tarzan or The Great Mouse Detective.
SPEAKER_03Tarzan.
SPEAKER_08Bob? Yeah, here's here's the first one I'm gonna have to step aside on. I don't step aside.
SPEAKER_14Okay, don't recall seeing either one. All right, I'm gonna step in the Bob shoes here. I am going Tarzan because Phil Collins went so hard in this film. I think out of all of the Renaissance Disney movies of the 90s, Tarzan has the best soundtrack. The film I still think was really good. I think it was one of the first times that Disney was actually starting to use some computer animation in their hand-drawn films as well, too. So I think it was really innovative at the time. So I'm Tarzan um as well. Jack?
SPEAKER_06I really, really like the Great Mouse detective. It's so good. But um, Tarzan, and also do you guys remember Tarzan Rocks and Animal Kingdom?
SPEAKER_07And Animal Kingdom, yes, another better show. With the rollerblades and all that stuff, yes, this is so cool.
SPEAKER_14Yep, cool. All right, John. Uh Tarzan's moving on, but how would you uh how would you have voted? Su studio, uh Phil Collins. All right, love it. All right, so we're trashing the camp, and Tarzan moves on to the round of 32. All right. In my mind, this is the toughest matchup, I think of maybe the entire bracket. And Bob, I'll start with you. The three-seed, the Lion King, and choose wisely here. The 14 seed, a goofy movie.
SPEAKER_08Probably my favorite Disney character, as everybody many folks know. But I didn't like that movie worth a talk. I really didn't. I didn't. And I did like The Lion King, so I'm Lion King on this one. Okay, Jack.
SPEAKER_06I'm goofy movie.
SPEAKER_14That's that a girl, that a girl. John.
SPEAKER_07Um, I know you're my favorite podcast host, Greg, but I'm going with Lion King.
SPEAKER_02All right, fair enough. Fair enough. Alicia.
SPEAKER_03I also have to go with Lion King, but side note, did you guys see the video where they did the translation for opening?
SPEAKER_02Oh my goodness.
SPEAKER_03No.
SPEAKER_14Okay. Alicia, do you want to explain it?
SPEAKER_13Go ahead.
SPEAKER_14Okay. So essentially it was a video. They had I don't know, uh, it was uh Instagram or TikTok or whatever, and they were interviewing this guy, I guess, who speaks native Swahili or something like that, and they asked him to translate the opening lyrics of the circle of life. And it essentially translates to look, there's a lion over there. Oh my god.
SPEAKER_03A lion.
SPEAKER_14And literally the hosts are like, no, you're like, you're full of crap. There's no way this is right. And apparently, no, that that's what it translates to.
SPEAKER_08Oh golly. That's not the same guy, and I'm going back in history now who did the uh sign language for when uh was it Clinton or Obama Oh my god, yes, Obama.
SPEAKER_02Oh, yes, yes, yes.
SPEAKER_08So they didn't get the same guy to do the translation. No, no, not at all.
SPEAKER_14No, all right. All right, so even though I'm a little upset, it means no worries. Lion King moves on. Okay, we have two more, and then we'll we'll take a short break here on the bracket. Uh and John, I'll start with you on this one the seven seed, the rescuers down under versus the ten seed Fantasia 2000. That's that's a no-brainer.
SPEAKER_07The rescuers down under. Okay. Alicia.
SPEAKER_03Now I'm really confused. You guys are throwing out other things. I didn't realize there was different Fantasias.
SPEAKER_07Yeah, no one did.
SPEAKER_14Yeah, it was because Fantasia 2000 came out in 1999. I understand it. It's weird.
SPEAKER_03Well, I feel like I've maybe only have seen the Fantasia 2000 because that's what I have at VHS. But I also now I'm like, what is the rescuers down under versus the rescuers?
SPEAKER_06Okay, so the rescuers down under is the one where they're in Australia, a kid gets kidnapped because there is poachers, and um the mouse, the mice are trying to find um um the boy, and it's a whole thing. Whereas the rescuers, a little girl is sending notes in a bottle, it's in the ocean, someone finds a note.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, yeah, yeah. All right. So then I guess I'm gonna go with Fantasia 2000.
SPEAKER_07So you're so you're really into the rescuers, Jack.
SPEAKER_06Oh my god, it's one of my favorite movies growing up. Uh the rescuers uh can I vote? I'm so sorry. I'm totally ruined. Rescuers down under all the way. I don't even do lounge flies, and I have a I had a lounge fly of rescuers down under. That's great.
SPEAKER_02All right, it's two to one, Bob. What do you say?
SPEAKER_08I say, Greg, you cast the deciding vote here.
SPEAKER_14Okay, and uh again, being a classical music geek, I'm going Fantasia 2000 here because that's rigged. Because I no, it to me, Fantasia 2000 is actually even better than Fantasia, in my in my own personal opinion, because it has some classical bangers in it. You got it opens with Beethoven's fifth, then it's got Rhapsody and Blue, probably one of the best classical jazz charts known the man. You have the famous graduation song Pomp and Circumstance in it. It's got Pines of Rome, um, the Firebird Suite 1918 version. It's just banger after banger after banger, and you and you folks can judge me all you want out there. So I'm going Fantasia 2000. So this goes to the Patreons for the deciding vote, and Jack, you'll be happy. The rescuers down under takes it with 82% of the votes.
SPEAKER_04They know what's up.
SPEAKER_08Correct, correct me. Fantasia 2000 didn't do well at the box office, did it?
SPEAKER_06No, it did not either, but in my heart, it was awesome.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, not that that right. No, though that's some good music, yeah.
SPEAKER_14And then the last uh matchup in this region, and Bob will start with you here. The two-seed, and Jack, listen carefully in this one. Beauty and the beast versus the 15-seed Pocahontas.
SPEAKER_08Let's see. I dressed up as Gaston's grandfather one time, so but I and on top of that, Beauty and the Beast is uh one of my favorites. I love the be our guest scene. It's epic.
SPEAKER_02Alicia?
SPEAKER_03This is hard again. I like both of these movies. Um but the only really character that I dressed up as was Belle, so I'm gonna go with Beauty and the Beast.
SPEAKER_14All right.
SPEAKER_07I will have to go with uh Beauty and the Beast. Okay. Jack, is it a clean sweep?
SPEAKER_14No, no, okay.
SPEAKER_06No, I do like Beauty and the Beast. I think it's an all-time classic. My mom would actually be surprised by this answer, but I think I really do enjoy Pocahontas and she does not get enough recognition.
SPEAKER_03No, well, and I was so torn, Jack. I'm like the colors of the wind, and like that's yeah, and all of yeah, it's a beautiful movie.
SPEAKER_06Look at the princess medals, and it's like Pocahontas is literally running in the movie half the time, and she's amazing, and she doesn't even get that many medals. She had one medal, I think, in our in the entire lifespan of the princess half marathon weekend. So Run Disney, come on, but look.
SPEAKER_14No, I I I agree with you, ladies. I I think out of any of the films, how it fell in terms of this bracket, that Pocahontas was the one that surprised me the most that from at least a quote unquote run tomato score, that it was that that low on the list and had to go up against such a behemoth like Beauty and the Beast. Because um, I could be wrong here, but I'm pretty sure Beauty and the Beast is the only Disney animated film that has actually been nominated for the best picture Oscar.
SPEAKER_06Yes.
SPEAKER_14Yes. Well, not not animated, not animated feature, like actual best picture. Yeah, yeah, yeah. No, no, no.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, I'm I actually remember researching or something about that. I thought that was interesting too.
Halftime Notes And Next Week Preview
SPEAKER_14All right, well, excellent. We'll uh we will say we we and move on. Uh Beauty and the Beast moves on to the round of 32. So that takes care of the left side of the bracket. We're gonna uh take a few um messages from our corporate sponsors, uh Coca-Cola, Capital One, and whoever pays off the NCAA these days. And uh and and Bob, I'm gonna kick it back over to you, sir.
SPEAKER_08All right, let's take a break. Uh a halftime ceremony, I guess. Halftime the uh the halftime analysis. Nah, we'll skip that. Hey, let's take a look. Our buddy Amanda Farron, who was with us a couple weeks ago, first of all, celebrated a birthday just this week. Happy birthday, Amanda. And it's you know, she has some serious health issues. She was in a serious accident. Recovering, we hope. Amanda, we just want you to know that we are thinking of you and sending you our strongest, best wishes. We well, I'm gonna say we know it's tough. The truth is we we can't appreciate how tough it must be. But we're just hoping for the best for you. I wanted to look at uh let's see, it is a Zoom Thursday. Information is on the Facebook page, it's pinned to the featured section. So we'll be talking to several of you this evening. I hope we can rehash registration Tuesday. You can tell us what races you'll be running on Marathon weekend. And next week, here's one I've been wanting to get for quite a while. The choir director, and I'm not sure how many of the members of the East River High School choir. That's one of the groups that we see when we finish the races at Walt Disney World. I am always excited to see the choir, and I'm excited to have them with us next week.
Modern Disney Picks And Big Takes
SPEAKER_09Caution runners, change of topic ahead.
SPEAKER_08All right, so let's get back to it. I heard the buzzer. Yep, calling the teams back onto the court.
unknownDing ding ding.
SPEAKER_08It doesn't ding. It actually goes.
SPEAKER_02That's boxing jack, but okay, close enough.
SPEAKER_14Yeah, so now we're gonna move up to the upper right hand quadrant of the bracket. Again, these are films that were released between 2000 and present day. And uh, or as we're aptly gonna call uh Bob probably didn't see these movies bracket.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, I got children born in 79 and 82, so they're they're too old to see most of these. I I'll let you know when we come along. I've seen some of them.
SPEAKER_14Absolutely. Okay, perfect. All right, so we'll start off, and actually, Bob, we will start with you here. So we start off with the number one seed, Zootopia versus the winner of that playing game, the 16th seed Meet the Robinsons. Bob, what do you say?
SPEAKER_08Yeah, I you know, this is a good place to start because I've seen both of these, and Meet the Robinsons is a lot of fun, it's good, but I thought Zootopia was great. I actually saw it recently on the Disney Channel, so I would vote for Zotopia.
SPEAKER_14Okay. John?
SPEAKER_07I like the other movie in the play, in the uh what do you call it? Uh playing game, but I will go with Zootopia.
SPEAKER_14Okay, so you're a big Treasure Planet fan. Got it.
SPEAKER_07I like I like Treasure Planet better.
SPEAKER_14Okay. All right. 2-0 so far for Zootopia, Jack.
SPEAKER_03Zootopia all the way.
SPEAKER_14All right.
SPEAKER_02Is it clean sweep, Alicia?
SPEAKER_03It is, although when I when Meet the Robinsons came out, the quote of I got a big head and little arms, I would say that pretty often. And I loved love saying that saying, but yes, I I absolutely love Zootopia. I think it's a great movie.
SPEAKER_14All right. Well, we're making our popsicles. We're saying it's the hustle, sweetie, and Zootopia moves on. Okay, next matchup here, and Alicia, I'll start with you this time: the eight-seed frozen versus the nine-seed Tangled.
SPEAKER_03Hmm. They're both good movies again. Um I guess I'm gonna go with Tangled.
SPEAKER_07Okay. Jack.
SPEAKER_03Tangled.
SPEAKER_07Okay. John. I've only seen one of these movies, so I can only vote for that movie. Frozen.
SPEAKER_14Frozen, okay. And Bob.
SPEAKER_08Well, all right. I'll go ahead because it will kick it to the Patreons. I'm like John, I've only seen Frozen. I'm familiar with the tangled story of Rapunzel, but I did not see that movie. So, as reluctant as I am to do this, if I say Frozen, that kicks it to the Patreons, and I think that's fair.
SPEAKER_14Okay. And the Patreons voted. Like any good eight-nine matchup, it was a close one. And with 53% of the vote, Rapunzel, Rapunzel, let down your hair, tangled, moves on.
SPEAKER_06I was about to say, am I about to say he broke my smolder?
SPEAKER_14All right. Our next matchup here is again the famous 512 upset. The five-seed, the newest Disney animated film, Zootopia 2 versus the 12-seed Princess and the Frog. Bob, I'll start with you. I actually saw Zootopia 2 yesterday.
SPEAKER_13Wow.
SPEAKER_08Look at that. No joke. Uh weather for Florida, that is. Well, yesterday was kind of rainy and nasty. So we're hanging around without much to do. Becky says, We've seen Zootopia. Let's watch this. So we did. So I will vote for Zootopia 2.
SPEAKER_14I mean, that's the one thing about digital streaming. You don't have to wait six to nine months for it to come out on VHS or DVD. You know, three months later, it's up on Disney Plus or whatever. So it's pretty good. All right. Alicia.
SPEAKER_03Well, unlike Bob, I have not seen Zootopia 2. So I'm going to go with Princess and the Frog.
SPEAKER_02Okay.
SPEAKER_07John? I've not seen Zotopia 2. I've saw like 10 minutes of The Princess and the Frog. So I'm going to abstain from voting.
SPEAKER_14All right. I'll fill in for John this one. I'm also going to go with Princess and the Frog because I think from start to finish it's a great story. I love New Orleans. I think the music is awesome in it. And what I also appreciate about this movie is that this was Disney's reverting back to in an age of computer animation. I believe this one was fully hand-drawn, which I think there's something special about that. So mark me down for Princess and the Frog. So Jack, it comes down to you.
SPEAKER_06I feel so bad. So good. So I am going to still say Princess and the Frog.
SPEAKER_14Alright. Excellent. We got our second 12-5 upset. A true March Madness bracket brew in here. Gotta love it. Okay. John, I'll go back to you to start this one. The four seed and conto versus the 13th seed Lilo and Stitch.
unknownWhat?
SPEAKER_07Okay, so my granddaughter is a huge Stitch fan.
SPEAKER_14Oh, yes, I remember this because of the shoes at Springtime. That's right.
SPEAKER_07Oh, the Springtime shoes, everything. So uh and I I like the Stitch movie because he's a troublemaker. So uh I'm going with Lilo and Stitch.
SPEAKER_14Okay. Alicia move to you since you seem to have uh some uh beef here with the selection committee.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I don't like this at all. I love Encanto so much, I think it's a fantastic movie. Um, and I love the cultural representation. But Lilo and Stitch is like one of my favorite. I absolutely love Stitch, and I have to go with that one, but I'm mad about it.
SPEAKER_02All right, Jack, what are you thinking?
SPEAKER_06I'm gonna go with uh La Casita. Uh Encanto.
SPEAKER_02Okay.
SPEAKER_08Bob, seen in for you on this one or no? Nope, have seen them both. Okay. And uh Lilo and Stitch over the top.
SPEAKER_14All right, we're going on a Hawaiian roller coaster ride, Lilo and Stitch. Moving on to the second round. All right, Bob, I'll definitely go back to you this one because I think this is the one you and I talked about earlier. Right. The six-seed Bolt versus the 11-seed Wreck It Ralph. I'm assuming you're going to abstain on this one, right? Yeah, I haven't seen either. Okay. All right. Uh, this is an easy one for me. Uh, I thought Wreck It Ralph was a really uh innovative film with a lot of video game Easter eggs in it, so that is my vote, John. I'm right there with you. Wreck it Ralph.
SPEAKER_02Okay, Alicia.
SPEAKER_03So I've seen both of these movies. I don't really remember a whole lot from either, but I remember more from Wreck It Ralph, so I'm gonna say that one.
SPEAKER_02Okay. It moves on. But Jack, how would you have voted?
SPEAKER_06I love video games. Uh Wreck and Ralph.
SPEAKER_02So we can fix it, right?
SPEAKER_06Yeah.
SPEAKER_14This I think is probably gonna cause some controversy in terms of the seeding, but again, don't blame me, blame Rodden Tomatoes. And Jack, I'll start with you here first. The three seed Raya and the Last Dragon versus the 14th seed Emperor's New Groove.
SPEAKER_06Again, um, so Raya and the Last Dragon, it's on my watch list. I have yet to watch it, but I freaking love Emperor's New Groove. Pull the liver crunk.
SPEAKER_02All right, Alicia, again, you're upset. Let's let's hear why.
SPEAKER_03Because Raya's like, it's like Molan. She's this I don't know if I can say bad.
SPEAKER_14Go ahead, say it.
SPEAKER_03She's this bad lady, and I love the concept of it, but I say vocal stems from the Emperor's New Groove all the time, and I love llamas. I honestly really don't know what to pick. Like, really, I don't know what to pick.
SPEAKER_07All right, we'll we'll come back to you, John. Okay, so uh so like this error is a very strange error for me. So my youngest son was born in '97. So a lot of these a lot of the earlier movies here I've seen. My grandkids are now, you know, watching some of these. So like I've seen like Emperor's New Groove a lot more. So I can relate to that movie more than Raya and the Last Dragon.
SPEAKER_14Okay. So so far, 2-0 for Emperor's New Groove, Bob. Can't help you. Okay. Haven't seen either. All right, I'll step in here. I'm gonna go Raya on this one because this was probably the first uh COVID movie that I watched, and I remember just being incredibly impressed by it at the same time, creepily freaked out by it as well, too, because of the storyline and how you know the drood was spreading around the kingdoms at while at the same time while the coronavirus was spreading around the world. You know, but again, these films go into production years ahead of time, so kind of creepy that you know it was in production and released at this time, but I think it's a solid film, so I'm going Raya.
SPEAKER_03So that didn't really help, Greg, but I guess I'm gonna put it as Raya and let the patrons decide. That's good. I like that.
SPEAKER_14Okay, good idea, Alicia. Okay. So we go to the Patreon vote here, and with a 76% of the vote, pull the lever crunk, Emperor's new groove moves on.
SPEAKER_06They better make that ride. Now that they got a villain's land, they better add that. That'd be the coolest roller coaster. That would be cool.
SPEAKER_02We shall see.
SPEAKER_14All right, John, I'll start with you here. The seven-seed Big Hero Six versus the ten-seed Ralph Breaks the Internet, which is the sequel to Wreck It Ralph.
SPEAKER_07I fell asleep on Ralph Breaks the Internet so odd. I have to go with Big Hero Six.
SPEAKER_08Bob, have you seen either of these? I've seen Big Hero Six. And uh let me abstain for now. I did like Big Hero Six, but I I have no idea about Ralph Breaks the Internet. Okay.
SPEAKER_14All right. Well, then since you're abstaining, I'll jump in here for you. Uh, I'm gonna make it 2-0 Big Hero 6. I that's an amazing, amazing film. I wish they would do sequels. I know there's a there's a series, an animated series that played on like Disney XD or something like that. I thought it was really well done. Riley's obsessed with it. And like Bay Max, I am not fast. So uh, Jack, what do you think?
SPEAKER_06I am a massive Baymax fan. I don't know if you know that, but I'm a massive fan. I love the movie. It's it makes me cry every time, but it's so just fantastic. I have to vote Big Hero Six.
SPEAKER_14Jack, I was I started watching a video of a ship tour of the new Disney adventure in Singapore. That Big Hero Six section that they have looks phenomenal.
SPEAKER_06I know.
SPEAKER_14So we got we gotta go, girl. We gotta go. Okay. Alicia, uh, obviously Big Hero Six is moving on, but how would you have voted?
SPEAKER_03Well, like John, I fell asleep at Ralph Briggs Internet. Um I'm a helper, helper and a hero. A helper and a healer, and so is um Bay Max. So I'm gonna go with that one. Wonderful.
SPEAKER_02I love it.
SPEAKER_14Okay, last matchup in this region, and Bob will start with you if you've seen these. I got two seed, yeah. Go ahead. The two-seed Moana versus the 15-seed Frozen 2.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, I have no problem voting for Marwana here, which I actually saw on a Disney cruise ship.
SPEAKER_03Okay.
SPEAKER_02Excellent. Alicia.
SPEAKER_06Moana.
SPEAKER_02Okay, Jack.
SPEAKER_06Moana. Make way, make way. It's Moana.
SPEAKER_14Love it. All right. John, how would you have voted though?
SPEAKER_07Uh what was I for uh the uh five.
Pixar Round One And Final Results
SPEAKER_14Oh, you were Maui. That's right. That's right. Okay, I should have known this. Okay, yes, so beautiful. All right, we got one more region left, and we move down to the Pixar region. So again, this is all Pixar films, not uh divvyed up by Decade or anything like that. So we are going to go and start with Jack on this one. The number one seed Toy Story Two versus the 16 seed of Bug's Life.
SPEAKER_06Okay, I'm just gonna put this out there. I'm I love Zootopia, but I'm devastated that they took out It's a Bug's Life over at Animal Kingdom. Oh, yeah. It's a fantastic movie, and people should watch it because it's it's good.
SPEAKER_08Okay, so Bugs Life for you? Okay, Bob. I think Toy Story is a great franchise, and Toy Story 2 is excellent. So I have seen them both. Uh Toy Story 2.
SPEAKER_14All right, one the one Alicia.
SPEAKER_03I agree with Jack. I think more people should watch It's a Bug's Life. Um, and I'm like her. I'm sad that they took it out. I mean, I do love Zotopia, but yeah, Bugs Life.
SPEAKER_14All right, 16 seed holding tough here, John. What do you think?
SPEAKER_07Well, I would have to go with Toy Story too because uh I, for some strange reason, I always mix up a bug's life with ants. It came out around the same thing. They came out very close, yeah.
SPEAKER_14I know. Yeah. All right, so we go to the Patreons, consider it overtime, and with 73% of the vote, we're heading to Al's Toy Barn. Toy Story 2 moves on.
SPEAKER_06But hi, Mlick! Hi, Mlick Butterfly!
SPEAKER_14All right, Jack. I'll start with you for the next game here. We have the eight-seed, the Incredibles, versus the nine-seed Toy Story Four.
SPEAKER_06Okay, after like the third one, I they all mold together, so I can't really, yeah, I can't really. Toy Stoe makes me cry the older I get because the toys are getting older. You know what I mean? And that's fantastic. Um now, can you tell me what the other choice was again?
SPEAKER_14The Incredibles.
unknownOkay.
SPEAKER_06Um, I'm gonna go with Incredibles. I think it's great.
SPEAKER_08Okay, Bob. Although I just talked about the Toy Story franchise, and I am in fact, and I just remembered this, wearing socks that have the word Andy written on the bottom of them.
SPEAKER_13Oh, that's great.
SPEAKER_08Nice. Which I got, which I got from my friend Stephanie for a Christmas birthday present. Uh I'm I'm going to say, yeah, by four, still a good movie. I had enough of it, but I'm gonna go with the Incredibles on this one.
SPEAKER_02Okay, Alicia.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I I mean Toy Story is great, but and like Jack, I cry because yeah, the toys are getting older, but I'm gonna go with Incredibles.
SPEAKER_07Okay, John. I gotta get my super suit.
SPEAKER_14All right, love it. Honey, where is my super suit? And Samuel Jackson and the rest of the Incredibles. Well, I was frozen that last year for Swiss. You were, yes. Yes. All right. Next game, we're gonna keep it in the Toy Story family. The five-seed Toy Story Three versus the 12 seed soul. John, I'll start with you.
SPEAKER_07Okay, so I think Toy Story Three is the best Toy Story movie out there. I mean, that one kind of hits home sometimes at the end. You know, your childhood.
SPEAKER_14Or you or when all the toys hold hands right before they go into the trash compactor, you didn't lose it at that point either.
SPEAKER_07No, that didn't bother me. That didn't bother me. It's like, okay, when he has to give the toys away, you're walking away from your childhood. Yeah, that was it. But uh, so I'm going with Toy Story Three.
SPEAKER_02Okay. Jack?
SPEAKER_06So I actually remember this toy story. Is there four? Okay, there's four.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, it's four.
SPEAKER_02We just talked about four.
SPEAKER_06And then they're now the fifth one and Woody's going bald, that one's not yet.
SPEAKER_08That's right. That comes out this summer. But I'm boomed for it when it comes out, I'll tell you.
SPEAKER_06I remember all of them individually now. Okay, the fourth one was good, but see, I had to vaguely remember it. Um, but I will have to agree with John. Toy Story 4. So sorry, Toy Story 3, where they're all holding their hands in the incinerator. I remember watching this and I said, Disney, what are you doing? But it was good. I'm gonna have to go with Toy Story 3. It is the best one out of all of them.
SPEAKER_02Jack? Sorry, Alicia.
SPEAKER_14Sorry, I was I was looking I was looking at Alicia, but I said Jack for some reason.
SPEAKER_08Well, I've never known I've never done that. Alicia.
SPEAKER_03Um yeah, I mean, Soul was fine, um, but I'm gonna go with Toy Story 3.
SPEAKER_02Okay. So it moves on, but Bob, how would you have voted?
SPEAKER_08Yeah, clean sweep. Candidly, I was a little disappointed with Soul. Really?
SPEAKER_06I think it's a fantastic movie.
SPEAKER_08I just that's cool, Jack. It really is. And you know, just difference of opinion. I just thought it was just okay.
SPEAKER_14All right. Bob, I'll go to you for this one in case I get to step in here because this one probably hurts my heart the most out of any of these matchups. Well, you get to vote. Oh, I get the vote. Okay, well, here we go. So, Greg, the decide between the four seed inside out versus the 13 seed turning red. Oh, well, Greg, I'll tell you why it hurts my heart. Obviously, inside out means the world to me. My daughter is named Riley because of this movie, because Meredith was well into her third trimester when this came out, and we were both an emotional mess, and we walked out of that movie being like Riley was a really cool kid outside of the whole like running away from home thing. Um but why it pains me is because even though this was like one of Pixar's COVID movies, I thought Turning Rail was so good in the and you know, I it definitely tugged on those like you know, millennial heart strings of mine. I mean, obviously Fortown, it's got a great run Disney um recollection that probably my favorite race ever when I did uh the Pixar 10K with Allie and her crew, and we got a private concert from the guys who were there playing Fortown. I remember that, but yeah, for me it goes inside out as much as I love Turning Red. Jack?
SPEAKER_06That's hard. Both are freaking fantastic. And I feel like turning red doesn't get enough recognition. I agree, it really doesn't, and that makes me sad because it is really good, and I almost kind of wish that they do like a high school version of those characters. I think that would be really fun. Um, and see four town grow up. But um I I unfortunately it is a close call, but I have to choose inside out.
SPEAKER_02Okay, Alicia.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, again, I mean, I feel like turning red doesn't get enough um love, but the core memories, I gotta go with inside out. Yeah.
SPEAKER_14Okay. John, how would you have voted here?
SPEAKER_07Well, I was gonna have to abstain, but luckily I don't have to. Oh, okay. Well, there we go. I only saw inside out.
SPEAKER_02So Okay, yeah, fair enough. I need to see turning red, apparently. It's really good. You'll you would enjoy it, Bob.
SPEAKER_14I think.
SPEAKER_07I think that's one of those that's that that came out like COVID, right?
SPEAKER_14Yeah, it was yeah, it was it was Pixar's COVID movie, yeah.
SPEAKER_07Yeah, okay, yeah.
SPEAKER_14Yeah, nothing will ever be better when Bob all of a sudden showed up to take our photo, and then for the next three minutes on the course, yeah, I got to explain to Bob why group four town was up with five guys.
SPEAKER_08That was good. That's right. Yeah.
SPEAKER_14All right, John. Next matchup will start with you here. The six seed up versus the 11 seed Monsters Inc.
SPEAKER_07I gotta go with up. I mean, that's a great story.
SPEAKER_02Okay. Alicia.
SPEAKER_03This one's hard. I really like both movies. I I'm excited for the new Monsters Inc. area, but I'm gonna have to go with up.
unknownOkay.
SPEAKER_082-0 for up, Bob. This is the 29th matchup. I haven't commented on all of them. And this is the toughest one for me so far.
SPEAKER_02Okay.
SPEAKER_08Uh boy, I really like both of these movies. Golly. Uh if I say up, it's all over, so but I I mean, you know, yeah, that'd have to be it. I'd have to go with up. Okay. Plus, I moved I dressed as that character one time.
SPEAKER_14Yeah, oh yeah, I forgot you were Carl, yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Jack, how will you have voted here?
SPEAKER_06I haven't finished watching up. Oh I mean, it's yeah, I I haven't gotten a chance to get a chance. No, well, yeah, because I saw the beginning and I thought that was really good. It made me cry a lot.
SPEAKER_07You don't know what happened? Oh, okay.
SPEAKER_06No, well actually, I know he goes with balloons in the house and the house goes away, I think.
SPEAKER_08No, that's the house lands on a witch, I'm pretty sure.
SPEAKER_06That's what I'm moving about.
SPEAKER_07I didn't see I didn't see that one in the theaters.
SPEAKER_06I think I like missed out on like the last 30 minutes of the movie. So I actually don't know how it ends. Um, but I really like it, Monsters Incorporated. But if I had a life, I would want one like Carl and um L. Ellie. Ellie, yeah. Yeah, so I would go with that.
SPEAKER_14All right, Jack. Well, I'll go with you for the next matchup first here. And I think this is another tough one. Actually, I think all these are tough. But three seed finding Nemo versus the 14 seed Wally.
SPEAKER_06Upset Wally.
SPEAKER_14Okay.
SPEAKER_08All right, but. I can't be fair. Um, I'm not I know I saw finding Dory. I don't think I saw finding Nemo. I had a good friend who said Wally was the best movie he ever saw, but I can't I didn't see it. So I gotta bow out.
SPEAKER_14All right, bow out. All right. Yeah, this is another tough one for me. I think the the choices that Pixar made with not having any dialogue for what was it, the first 20 minutes of Wally, I thought was such an awesome uh decision for that film. But as much as I want to put on my Sunday clothes and listen to Hello Dolly, I gotta go Finding Nemo. Um, you know, the whole idea of just keep swimming was a um was a theme um for Meredith and I as we were you know in the process of starting our family, and um Raleigh's Nursery as a kid was all Finding Nemo themed. Uh and that that film just means a lot to us, so I'm going Finding Nemo. Alicia?
SPEAKER_03This one's really hard. I really, really like Finding Nemo, and I really, really like Wally.
SPEAKER_06Yeah. And again, Wally doesn't get enough recognition. And surprisingly, my five-year-old twins are not my five-year-old old twins. I'm sorry, I'm sorry. My twin nephews, my my sister has kids. Um, their favorite movie is one of their top favorites is Wally.
SPEAKER_03I love Wally and Eva. Yeah. But if I have to look at the whole movie, then I'm such a great message. It is though, yeah. I don't know.
SPEAKER_06I'm sorry, this is your fault.
SPEAKER_03Oh gosh, I don't know. But you're right, it is such a good message, but I still think I'm going with Fanny and Nemo in the end. Okay.
SPEAKER_06No, that's fair. It's a good movie. I can't blame you for it. That one's hard. Yeah.
SPEAKER_07Okay, so they're they're both good movies. I mean, like when I first saw Wally come out, I was thinking it's like a spit, like a spin-off of Short Circuit. If you guys remember that movie from the uh the 80s, Johnny 5. Uh, but my son really loved Finding Nemo. Uh you know, like he always used to walk the hat around the house. Fisher are friends, not food. You know. So, I mean, I like uh I think I'm gonna have to go with finding Nemo.
SPEAKER_14All right, finding Nemo hops on the EAC into the second round. All right, Bob, I'll go to you first on this one. The seven-seed Coco versus the 10-seed Ratatouille.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, and I have seen them both. And I enjoy them both, but I think I enjoyed Ratatouille a little bit more.
SPEAKER_02Okay. Alicia.
SPEAKER_03Both great movies again. I love Pixar movies, so um Ratatouille has a good message, but oh, so does Coco. Why are they so I think I'm gonna go with Coco.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_02Okay. John?
SPEAKER_07I that's a good question. I mean, they're both they're both good movies, like you said. Uh, I got an interesting story about Coco, how that traumatized my uh nephew because they decided to play that movie in school, and he was probably only like uh 10 years old. So uh that was not the whole actually the whole class was traumatized. But uh it's all about death, and like they're 10 years old, they don't really get the whole process, you know. So they're they were they thought it was a good idea at the time. Uh but uh I don't know if he even hasn't watched it since, but I I'm gonna go with Ratatouille.
SPEAKER_02Ratatouille. Okay. Jack.
SPEAKER_06Am I the last one? You are so I really, really, really enjoy both. I think Coco pulls at your heartstrings, and I think Radatouie is just good old fun. Um but because I am tied with it, I'm gonna vote Coco and let the Patreons choose.
SPEAKER_09Okay.
SPEAKER_14With 61% of the vote, I tell you that everyone can cook, and Ratatouille moves on.
SPEAKER_06What was the percentages of vote for that one?
SPEAKER_14It was 61 to 39%.
SPEAKER_07And I still remember uh mile 25 of my first marathon at Disney. What's it Linguini was the Linguini, yeah. Was the uh character stop, but that was the sign marker, and I'm like, I'm like, mile 25, I'm gonna do this.
SPEAKER_14Oh, that's we were still doing World Showcase. Yeah, that's right. That makes sense. Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_06I have to tell you this. So funny that you say this. This is before the new costume guidelines happened with Disney, but some guy literally built himself the Linguini hat, and then like you like it was a life-size hat, and that he was like, I think there was like a rat underneath the hat, too, that he had, and he was running with that for the entire marathon. Yeah, you could see it through, like there was like a light. You remember it! Yeah, yeah, it was impressive. Yes.
SPEAKER_14All right, we got one more uh matchup here before round one is complete, and John, I'll start with you. The two-seed, the OG Pixar film, Toy Story, versus the 15 seed Finding Dory.
SPEAKER_07That's like a no-brainer, this one. I mean like some some sequels work well, some don't, so I would say uh that's why I'm going with Toy Story.
SPEAKER_08Okay, Bob. If I were to sit down and make a list of my 10 favorite movies of all time, not 10 favorite Disney movies, 10 favorite movies of all time, Toy Story would be on that list somewhere.
SPEAKER_02That's impressive. Okay, all right, Alicia.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I think that um finding Dory was cute. Um, but Toy Story I could watch a million times. So yeah.
SPEAKER_02All right, and Jack, how are you have voted?
SPEAKER_06Let me use my echolocation. Ooh, finding Dory.
SPEAKER_14All right, so Jack is speaking whale, but it's not enough to set it to the next round. Toy Story moves on, and ladies and gentlemen, that completes round one of Disney and Pixar Animated Films March Madness. Looking forward to round two next week. Thanks for uh thanks for playing along. Thank you, patrons. Like I said, be sure to check your inboxes for next week's matchup so you can be the tiebreaker. And Bob, we're gonna send it back to the studio to you for one quick question, Greg.
SPEAKER_07So are we reseeding these by uh by ranking or are we just going a bunch of?
SPEAKER_14No, we're we're going, we're following the bracket, baby.
Weight Check And Weekend Race Recap
SPEAKER_08Right, okay. That's how it is. Okay, great. It's March Madness, John. You've been down this road many times, so you know how it works. Yeah, a quick recap, friends. Uh now they'll go a little quicker, of course. We went through 32 decisions there. Only have 16 to do next week, right? Uh yeah, so it'll go a little quicker. Uh mentioned it is a Zoom Thursday and that the East River Choir is with us next week. And now please stand clear of the door. It's time for a race report. Race report is brought to you by Tom Stokes of Stoked Metabolic Training, Stokes.fit slash rise and run coaching. Let's see here. Accountability post for weight loss. This helps me. Uh 263.6 this week. That is down three pounds from the week before, and down from where I started at 272. I will be honest, uh, I have been to the gym, but I've missed a couple, and I'm going to try to get back again starting tomorrow. It's important. Uh, John, you doing well with this?
SPEAKER_07Yeah, I'm going to the gym, uh, you know, unfortunately, I probably gained like 20 pounds this week with uh all the food that gets sent to the house and all the other stuff going on. But yeah, I mean, you know, I said everything's back to back to the groove again. Hopefully I can, you know, give it a couple days for all this water and so sodium to gas.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, sodium's a big deal. Uh, you mentioned that when I was at Disney, and that's true. So that was a big deal. And it it genuinely helps me knowing that I promised that I would read these numbers out every week because I have to. Plus, I have other motivations too uh more recently. All right, friends, we'll go through the race report. It's not terribly long this week, but as the number of races increase, I need to shorten the reports that we do on the podcast just a little bit. And I actually started that this week. It's not that I don't love what you send in. I absolutely do. I absolutely read all of it, but have to condense them down a little bit. So let's start. Let's start Saturday in Indianapolis, Indiana for the Shamrock Beer Run 5K. Drake and Katie were there. Doubtless you're going to pick up on a theme here for St. Patrick's Day weekend. Probably some next week, also. In Severeville, Tennessee, Jimmy ran the 9-5K. Get it? 9 to 5K. Pretty cool. Pretty cool. Severeville, Dolly's old hometown. Uh, first year for this one for Severeville flat course. Pretty hilly around there. Uh, also opening week of Dollywood. I guess they come out of their winter season. Jimmy says he can't wait to see all of you at his home park and maybe do a rise and run meetup. And he's referring to the Dollywood race that takes place, I think that's April 25th, or right around there. It's right when we get back off of the cruise. The Evergreen St. Patty's Day race at the Evergreen Cemetery in Jacksonville, Florida. Carrie Ann was there. Interesting, running through a cemetery. The cheerleaders were so quiet. But she's proud of trimming a minute off of her time within the past two weeks and reaching a sub-35K. Now, when you say reaching a sub-35K, Carrie Ann, I'm assuming that's a PR. And sub-30 is a big milestone, so congratulations. Good job. Mary was in Kingsland, Georgia for the Shamrock Shuffle 5K. Came out to visit her daughter, and right down from her house, saw a sign for a 5K. So of course she signed up. The course was through a beautiful golf course, but her shoes were not ready for the slippery grass. I hope that doesn't mean you fell, Mary. She did uh the 5K in 33 minutes and is super proud of that. Great job. Megan, I think this one's in Roswell, Georgia. I'm not positive. I tried to look it up. It's the Running with the Leprechauns 5K. Not Megan's best race, but definitely a special one because she got her daughter to go out and run walk with her. Definitely a win there. Hoping that her daughter will be encouraged to do more races with her. I hope so too. That's fun. I love reading about families running together. Bethany out in Sacramento, Sacramento, California, ran the Shamrockin' Weekend 5K. Brandy in Houston, the Lucky Charm 5K, had 14 miles on the training calendar the next day, so took it easy on Saturday. Saw an adorable costume on the course of a couple in a it was like the front and back legs of a dachshund. It was kind of cute, but I think it was an inflatable. Anyway, the race benefited a dog shelter. Montgomery, Alabama saw Kayla running state number five for her 50 halves in 50 states trek. This is the Montgomery half marathon. Lesson learned: the back of the pack is okay. You don't really need course support, and he'll still suck. So state five is done. Virginia Beach next weekend. But first, a very special seven-year-old is celebrating his birthday. So they're off to the beach for a few days. We're out in Key Largo, Erica, the Shamrock 10K at Ocean Reef. Slightly overcast, which probably helped keep the temps down a little bit. All the great strength strength taning that Erica's been doing with Coach Thomas helped her out. And she's in this challenge also. So as a result of all that, knocked out that 10K and PR'd it by four and a half minutes. In Peoria, Illinois, Heather ran the Barney Blitz. I'm sorry, the Blarney Blitz. I don't know. Who's Barney?
unknownI don't know.
SPEAKER_08The Blarney Blitz 5K. Been on and off again, runner for the last 30 years, did her first Disney half at Disney Marathon weekend in 2008. See, last summer she started running again a little in December. It was 34 degrees with snow, sleet, rain, but the course was flat and only a little bit wet. Her time was only five seconds off of PR, which she set when she was 23. So this one's a decade PR, but, but please save the PR bell because she knows she can get a lifetime PR and she wants to savor the bell when we ring it. By the way, Heather's run time was good enough for third place in her age group. Up in Erie, Pennsylvania, Michelle ran the Erie Runners Club Distance Festival 10K. Still pretty chilly up in northwest Pennsylvania. Cold day real field temperature of 10 degrees at start time. Shoes she had were too tight. She kept losing feeling in her legs till she discovered that the problem was the shoes. Must have been the shoes, Morris. Oh well. Better to figure out now instead of her big race coming up, the Buffalo Marathon, that's coming up, I think, in a week or two. Back to Houston for the run Houston Series 5K number three at the Shell Energy Soccer Stadium. Are family Catherine, Lucas, and Olivia, this time dressed as the Stitched and Stoked family, engaged to PR and fun. So proud of Lucas and Olivia for getting up at 5 a.m. to make it there early so they can get a good parking space at this new location for this race. There was a St. Patrick's Day Four Miler in Binghamton, New York, and Steve was there. In Lahaska, Pennsylvania, Yvette was at the Shake Your Shamrock 8K that runs through Pedlar's Village. That's a lovely area out there, Greg. I know you're familiar with that area. You are familiar with it, right, Greg?
SPEAKER_14Yeah, absolutely. Yeah. It's uh cute little little shopping village out there. Our friends uh Devin and Carrie of Zippy D uh DTs uh had their pop-up there uh last fall. I had to go out to it. That was it was a lot of fun. Yeah.
NYC Half Marathon Spotlight With Holly
SPEAKER_08Yeah, a neat place. Hilly, as I recall. Let's see. Yvette says she loves the Galloway method because she was able to change her intervals to 1030 and to keep her heart rate and breathing steady, and then felt great at the finish. Because, as she comments, it was a hilly course. Well, that was always Jeff's goal. He wanted you to finish upright with a smile on your face and ready to do the next race. Let's go to Mettery, Louisiana, where Mandy ran the Park to Park 10K, a point-to-point race, as the name implies. Beautiful weather, felt fantastic for the entire run. Thought she PR'd, but wasn't sure. She was talking to people on the bus back to the start point of this point-to-point race, and they said the 5K was short, and she ran the 10K, looked at her watch, and it had stopped at six miles. So kind of a quasi-unofficial uh PR here on a course that may not have been a full 10K. Nonetheless, Mandy, great job. Hope you're proud of that one. Let's wrap up Saturday at Hilton Head, South Carolina for the Hilton Head Island Shamrock 5K. Jake was there, found this race while on vacation, and despite recent allergy problems, clocked a 51-second PR at 25-13. Great 5K time. Yeah. For Jake, first ever age group finish, finished third. Early morning pizza and coffee for the finishers. All right, friends, let's move to Sunday and kick things off with the United Airlines 2026 New York City Half Marathon. And here to tell us all about it and to represent the 16 people. No pressure, Holly. No pressure, but you're here to represent the 16 people we have listed who ran that event. Holly's with us. Hey Holly. Welcome to the Rise and Run podcast. And like I said, relax. You know, nobody's it's just 16 people you're representing. And I picked, we picked you at random. And so you're the voice of the rest of the Rise and Run community that ran that thing.
SPEAKER_01No pressure at all. Thanks for having me.
SPEAKER_08Pretty exciting, huh?
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_08Good stuff. Oh, hey, I we always kick it off this way, even though we definitely want to hear quite a bit about this race. We always kick it off after asking our friends on the spotlight, Holly, how'd you get started running?
SPEAKER_01So I got started really uh late. I was very, I have I've had a Disney Annual Pass for years, 10 years since I moved down here. And I was so excited about Disney. And I would then I started seeing the races, and I'm like, hey, that's a part of Disney I haven't explored. So I signed up for the wine and dine 10K in 2024. And I was like, okay, I'll train, I'll be able to do that. And then I just really liked it. And then before you knew it, I was uh with customize. I did my first dopey this past January and just gone from there.
SPEAKER_08So pretty quick. Jump up from a 10K to get to dopey in just a couple years. That's pretty good.
SPEAKER_01I've tried.
SPEAKER_08You did. It's fun listening to our friends tell us how they got started. That's a big one that they discovered that you could do it at Disney and they thought, oh wow, that's great. So we have a lot of friends that have entered that way. That's cool.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, non-threatening way to get started. You know, you're nervous when you're 39 and you haven't done something before, and then all of a sudden you're in a safe space, and then you're really you can take it outside the space too.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, good stuff.
SPEAKER_07Okay, so uh you're in New York. Uh, I know they usually have a pretty good expo in New York at the Javit Center. Can you tell us about it?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, so I thought the expo was great. Obviously, this was my first time running the New York City half. It was my first time running a race in New York because I wasn't a runner when I left New York. So this was the first time apparently they've had this particular expo in the Javit Center. And I thought it was really great. It was really easy to get to. You know, so many subways go right there. So, and it went so smoothly. I went there on Saturday, which was obviously the last day you could go. It opened on Thursday, I believe. And I my time was at eight o'clock, which was right when it opened. Apparently, I've heard they're not too much of a stickler on your time, but they just kind of do that to get everybody somewhat organized. So right when it opened, I got there a few minutes before, they let me write in. Big bib pickup was easy, ton of open desks. Then you go get your race shirt. You just tell them your size while you're there so you can see them if you want to. And um yeah, it was it was not that big. Then there was a little, you know, like the actual run merch and then a few booths. And the New York Roadrunners were there. Obviously, they put on the race. And what was great too because they had the pacers there, like we have at the expo, you know, our pacers. They also had pace bands for everybody you could just take if you wanted to follow a pace band instead.
SPEAKER_07Oh, very good. That's nice. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. And as now an over 40 runner, they had Tylenol there giving out a bunch of free stuff, and it was like Christmas.
SPEAKER_07Tylenol.
SPEAKER_13Wow.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. A bunch of free stuff from Tylenol. And um, I feel like I enjoyed it. I went, I talked to people, I took some pictures, but I was still out in probably about 30, 40 minutes. So you could have got out really quick if you wanted to. So they still went really smoothly.
SPEAKER_08Now you told us, but I don't I don't think I don't think our friends know this. You used to live in New York City before you moved here to Florida.
SPEAKER_01Yes. I lived in Queens uh my whole life, so my first 30 years, and I moved down here 11 years ago.
SPEAKER_08Okay. Yeah, and you already mentioned that you hadn't run in New York before, so this is your first one. You told us that. Well, cool. Sounds like the expo went well. Now let's talk about race day. How was the start? Because a couple of our friends talked about maybe some issues at the start of the race.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, so I had listened to the New York Roadrunners podcast to kind of get a feel for it. And I guess they changed the start a little bit this year. So I think that might have confused people. I got there, I got a ride in. So I got dropped off about a block away, which was really nice. I went the wrong way um walking. I went to where waves one and three are, and I needed to be where waves two and four are.
SPEAKER_08Oh, shucks.
SPEAKER_01So that was fine. I only had a couple blocks. And but when I got there, it was probably 20 minutes before the wave two corral, the wave two corrals closed. And you have to do your bag drop off there and go through security. And we were packed in there for about 45 minutes. So I guess a lot of wave two people were later, and then a lot of us wave four people were earlier. And um, it took a while. I heard a lot of people in the crowd said they've never seen it like this. So I got there in plenty of time, so it was fine. And actually, it was cold, so the body heat of everybody packed together really helped me. But yeah, but then we went right into our waves, and you know, they do it the opposite of Run Disney, their terminology. There's four waves, and then there's corrals inside the waves.
SPEAKER_08Oh, okay. Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_01So pretty much just flipped.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, that's right. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01So I was in wave four, corral D. I had to make a pit stop at Corral P right when I walked in, and there were hardly any lines, maybe two people ahead of me, but still, by the time I got out, my my corral had already gone. I don't even know what corral I ended up in. So everybody was walking, it was good. Um so and then once you got to the start line, you know, you forgot all about what was happening in the corral. Yeah, sincerity.
SPEAKER_08That's true, yeah. Was this a multi-level start? I I think the the marathon is. I don't know if this one was or not.
SPEAKER_01No, because we started right a couple blocks away from Prospect Park. So it we just all started in the same place.
SPEAKER_08Okay, cool. So you got by that. And yes, others talked about the security and taking 40 minutes and all that. So so you so you're doing a good job of representing everybody. That's great. Good. Oh, good, good way to kick it off. That's good. Proud of you.
SPEAKER_01Uh, hope I can keep it up.
SPEAKER_08Well, let's let's check it out. How was the race?
SPEAKER_01The race was absolutely wonderful. It was like I said, it was cold. It was cold for me. I'm not used to it anymore at the start. It was probably around 34 when we started. But, you know, once you got running and we were actually lucky, the sun was out during the race. So it got overcast afterwards, but the sun came out during it. And the start was in Prospect Park. So there's a big hill in Prospect Park. And this is why I wanted to do this race because I'm running the full in November, and I was like, let me get some feel on New York streets and things like that. So a pretty big climb right at mile one. Um, I paced myself a little bit. I went a little slower than I could have. And but running in the park was great. Then we ran through the streets of Brooklyn, past the Barclay Center, tons of people out. I wasn't expecting that for a half marathon, but I guess I should have because it was New York. But just tons of people out, great energy right from the beginning, through downtown Brooklyn and then over the Brooklyn Bridge. So it is the only race that goes over the Brooklyn Bridge that New York does.
SPEAKER_07And I think that was changed right recently, right? I think, if I'm not mistaken.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I think it was this this is the second year.
SPEAKER_07Second year, yeah.
SPEAKER_01So, and it's funny because the little logos for this race, people are like, that's not the Brooklyn Bridge on it, but um, going over the Brooklyn Bridge was great. And being able to see the other bridges and being able to go into the city like that, it was really gorgeous. And coming off the bridge, seeing the Welcome to Manhattan sign, and going, then we turned on to the FDR, and we took that a while, but they had some different DJs out again, tons of people lining the FDR early in the morning in the cold just to give support. They had tons of water and Gatorade at every hydration stop. They had both. So, and it was about every mile and a half. Sometimes it was only a mile in between, so really well hydrated.
SPEAKER_08Oh, yeah, good.
SPEAKER_01At I think mile eight, right before we got off the FDR, we turned off at 40, we took the 42nd Street exit. So, right before then, they had um Morton giving out gels there. That was their nutrition there on the course. And then once we got into once we got off at 42nd Street, I mean the crowd was even more amazing.
SPEAKER_13Wow.
SPEAKER_01So going past the library, going past Grand Central Station, and turning into a carless Times Square completely shut down.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_01That was wild.
SPEAKER_08That's a big deal.
SPEAKER_01It was a big deal, and it was going really well for me. I didn't really, I didn't really want to give myself big goals for this one because you know, I just did the princess races. I have another half marathon in a couple weeks down here in Florida that I really want to like push myself for. So I just wanted to have a good time, be mindful of the elevation that I'm not used to. So I was like, if I could get under 245, that would be nice. So I was making pace for that. When we got into the park, we went right up from Times Square onto Broadway and then into Central Park. We came in on the east side, and then all of a sudden it was 800 meters to the finish. It flew by, and I crossed in 242. So I made my 245. Yeah, which was a new PR for me.
SPEAKER_07PR. There you go. That's great. And I think this also set a record this race, didn't it?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it was the uh biggest one they ever had.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, John. I've got a number here. Um 30,204 finishers, largest half marathon in the US. So if if Holly hadn't done it, it would have been 30,203.
SPEAKER_07Yeah.
SPEAKER_08And who knows? I don't know if that's why. But you might have put them over.
SPEAKER_07You might have.
SPEAKER_01Who's to say?
SPEAKER_08Who the heck knows?
SPEAKER_01And um, but they kept it. You know what? It didn't feel like that many people.
SPEAKER_08Well, that's good.
SPEAKER_01It did not. It was like all the aid stations stayed stocked at the finish line. You know, they obviously had medals for everybody, but they had they gave us the uh Mylar blankets, they had recovery bags for everybody that had apples in it, pretzels, a Gatorade, a water, and a protein bar. And they had it all ready to go. They had plenty for everybody, they had a good system for getting out of the park and getting your gear and meeting up with your family.
SPEAKER_13Yeah.
SPEAKER_01So it did not feel like there were 32,000 other people with me. You know, it felt like just a 16 here at Rise and Run.
SPEAKER_08Good stuff. What do you think, John? You get apples at the big apple. Get it? I get it.
SPEAKER_07I'm I'm liking this whole bag thing. Last week we talked about with uh Tokyo, they had a bag at when you finished the race. Now you have to bag here, you know. You know, I don't got to carry all this stuff trying to juggle all this after you're get bone your race.
SPEAKER_01Exactly. It was just like the gear check bag, too, which is just like the run Disney gear track. But like, you know, that you can kind of loop over yourself.
SPEAKER_08So good.
SPEAKER_01Portable too.
SPEAKER_07Yeah, so this was that's good. So with the gear check, you of course gear check your stuff in Prospect Park roughly, and they drive it over to the end for you, hopefully, when and it's there, right? That's how it yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, so for the half, that's how it is. I think for the full, you have to check it early. But um, for the half, and I guess that was part of the issue in the security line, too, was because they had the different trucks waiting there by different bib numbers, and there was maybe not enough space for everybody trying to cut across and get to where their bib number was.
SPEAKER_13Oh.
SPEAKER_01But the pickup was super easy on your bib at the expo. The bottom part is a gear check label. So they give you your shirt in the gear check bag. You just have to affix that label to the bag, and it's a sticker, and you just drop it right off and yeah, pick it right back up. They have the trucks in order waiting at the end, so you know exactly where to go to.
SPEAKER_08Sounds like a great event. And you you aren't the only person who was excited about it. A lot of our friends who uh who let this report said it was just a great race. And I think you've done well representing them, Holly. Good job with that.
SPEAKER_01Oh, good. I hope so.
SPEAKER_08I think they'll be proud of you.
SPEAKER_01Please don't send me angry messages.
SPEAKER_08I'm sorry. They won't. They'll send them to John. So yeah, they'll send them to John.
SPEAKER_01Oh, perfect. You don't need to forward those.
SPEAKER_07No, I know. I I I might, I might. If they're interesting.
SPEAKER_01Fair.
SPEAKER_07Okay, so Holly, what's your next races?
SPEAKER_01So I am as far as Disney goes, I will be doing all the runs at the springtime surprise challenge.
SPEAKER_08Right.
SPEAKER_01Followed by the Rise and Run Cruise. Yeah, okay.
SPEAKER_08Good.
SPEAKER_01Um, my next New York race will be the Brooklyn half. I got into that on the lottery. I was like, Wow.
SPEAKER_08Wow. Well, that sounds great. Yeah, and then another trip back up north, huh?
SPEAKER_01Exactly. At least you know I have all these friends and family, so that makes it a little bit easier.
SPEAKER_07It's great. Yeah, that's wonderful. Yeah, especially staying in the city for those races. It makes it a lot easier.
SPEAKER_01Exactly. So I became a member of the New York Roadrunners, just so I'm like, good for you.
SPEAKER_08And you said you were you said you were running the New York City Marathon this year, right?
SPEAKER_01I am. I did the guaranteed virtual last year to get in for that.
SPEAKER_07So okay, good, good.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, so that was really nice because I know the lottery was it feels like everything. It feels like run Disney registrations, these major lotteries. It's getting crazy out there. Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER_07You're doing two New York races this year so far. You know, you're almost six to you're six and one, almost ready to go. Yeah, exactly.
SPEAKER_01See what I can get in the summer.
SPEAKER_08Yeah. Good, good job.
SPEAKER_01I really recommend it. It was, I was very nervous about the cold. The cold did not end up bothering that me that much at all. Once I got out there moving, it was such a great day and a great experience, and so many people out supporting and so many dogs out supporting. So I know it's not the easiest thing to get into, but I recommend if people can, they try because it was just a great experience.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, it does sound really good. Sounds like fun. Well, Holly, thanks for joining us to tell us about it. And we look forward to seeing you in what are we? And I just talked about it at the top of the episode. We are now four weeks away. So we'll see you in four weeks.
NYC Half Wrap Up And Closing
SPEAKER_01Great. We'll see you in four weeks, and thank you for having me again.
SPEAKER_08So let's take a look at the rest of our friends who Holly's so well represented, who ran this race, this half marathon in New York. Let's start with Rob and thanks, Rob, for organizing the meetup. Uh, didn't get a chance, Holly didn't make it, so we didn't get a chance to find out how it went. We still appreciate you doing that. Rob went in realistically thinking 205 would be a solid finish. He finished in just a tick over two hours with rough headwinds. Heather was there, as were Emily and Jen. Emily said the New York City crowds did not disappoint. The hills were tough, but she hung on pretty well. Again, wants to thank the strength training. Almost all of our runners who commented talked about Times Square and how much fun that was. Apparently, Times Square is only emptied out of traffic, of vehicle traffic, twice. New Year's Eve and the New York City half marathon. So the crowds in Times Square and Central Park propelled Emily to a super fast last 5k. She finished this half in one hour, 49 minutes, and 43 seconds. Sister Jen got into this race after completing the New York Roadrunners 4 out of 6 program. Again, the Hills, but the vibes are great. Loved running through downtown Brooklyn, over the Brooklyn Bridge, through the heart of Times Square. Definitely add this one to your race list for a fantastic tour of New York City. Jennifer was there, as was Kimberly. Kimberly comments on running across the Brooklyn Bridge and through Times Square in Central Park. All core memories now. She's got a hot take. She thinks running through Times Square might be better than running through the castle. Well, good for you, Kimberly. If you think so, good for you. Half number 13 for Kimberly.
SPEAKER_14The thing is, Cinderella's Castle, though, doesn't have creepy Elmo or Creepy Mickey or Creepy Spider-Man, though. So I don't know. It is quite a toss-up.
SPEAKER_08I don't know. And you could get a uh street pretzel. Doesn't have the naked cowboys singing either.
SPEAKER_14Oh, that's true. The naked cowboys, well, yeah. Staple.
SPEAKER_08Let's go down here. Julie was there. Beverly, Nicole, Dibya. Divya commented as uh as Holly did, a little bit of craziness waiting for security at the start. None of the porta potties at the start had toilet paper. Not good. Not good. But after that, after that, it was a blast. Didn't quite make her goal. That's okay. Such a hilly course. Really wasn't expecting to. So nice seeing everyone at the meetup. Glad you made it, Divi. And again, Rob, thanks for working on that. Vivi was there. Hope I pronounced that right, Vivi. Michelle was there, as was Grace. This is one of Grace's favorite races. Fifth time running it. Once you got started, the race was great. Again, problem, little little bit of problem at the start. Course is tough, a lot of fun. Crowds are great. Happy how she paced herself. Still had a lot in the tank for the last few miles. Just missed going sub 230. Very happy with the race overall. Let's wrap it up. Caitlin, Courtney, and Rebecca were also there. Alright, continuing on Sunday. This is the first race in the Baltimore B3 series, and that is the Ultra Kelly Benefits Shamrock 5K. And Jen ran this one. In Toronto, the Toronto St. Patrick's Day race 10K, benefiting Achilles Canada. Rachel did her first 10K. Well. Did it as a catered training run, uh, literally with Irish food, entertainment, and a beer at the end. Getting ready for springtime surprise 10 miler. In Cincinnati, Carol ran the Heart Mini Marathon 15K on a beautiful 45-degree morning in downtown Cincy. Took it slow, enjoyed the sunrise over the Ohio River. She's getting ready to welcome friends to Flying Pig. We'll see you in a couple of weeks, Carol. And we can wrap up Sunday in Carey, North Carolina for the Tobacco Road Half Marathon. Lindsay ran it, finally completed a half in under three hours. Did it at 255. Again, when you say I finally did it in under three hours, I gotta assume that's a PR. Cool start, beautiful and sunny day, perfect race weather, which does help some with your times. Alright, my friends, that's it. That's it for the race report for episode 234. Thanks for hanging with us. Hope you got a chance to play along with the March Madness. And you can get online and tell us where we messed up. That's part of the fun. All right, friends, and if you run, you know you are our friend. Hope to see you tonight for the Zoom. Maybe we'll talk about registration weekend. Hey, maybe you can tell us there which ones we messed up on. But until we see you again, happy running!
