Speaker 1:

Welcome one and all to Go Professional Podcast. Remember, this is your podcast. It's for the pros that have a need to know that are on the go. This is truly the voice of the towing industry. I'm DJ Harrington, your co-host, better known as the Toad Doctor, and the real main host of this program is the president and publisher of Toad Professional Magazine, a dear friend of the industry and a dear friend of mine, darren Weaver. Darren, how are you this beautiful day?

Speaker 2:

DJ, I am fantastic. We went through all four seasons just in the last two weeks, so currently we're moving back into spring. It's a great day and let me tell you we've got a great podcast today because we're going back to. Something the listeners have been asking for is more information on recovery billing unlimited. And who better to give us that info than the president of recovery billing, Eric Fouquette, as well as Jade Pickert, the operations and marketing manager in the brains behind the marketing and everybody being able to see them out there. So this is going to be a great one, DJ.

Speaker 1:

Well, I agree, I cannot tell you how many shows I've been to and they've always said, hey, dj, when Eric going to be on the podcast, I said, hey, it's busy. And the last time Jade told us, the last time we were doing this, he had to take a call. So that's really really light, I think, the world of this family. They're wonderful people and they've really made a name for themselves in our industry. So would you be kind enough for our listeners? What is recovery billing and what do you guys do?

Speaker 3:

Yeah. So we came up with a class designed to show towing and recovery company owners and managers how to build the proper business foundation, including policies, procedures, handbooks, including OSHA, and then also how to document the scene from start to finish, the proper way of invoicing and how to get paid on various types of insurances, such as property damage, liability, homeowners insurance. We basically show you the different pathways and the different ways to get paid, because many people in the towing industry are so common to hear that that vehicle doesn't have collision, that's not covered. Well, we have different avenues to get paid and we've used them in-house for over 40 years now. So that's one of the main things that people come to our classes.

Speaker 3:

For A lot of people here, sorry, that's not covered, we never pay. That We've heard them too, and over the course of the inception of the company, we've just basically found different pathways to go down, and that's pretty much what we share with you. We have an attorney who is well-versed in the towing and recovery industry, who goes over federal and state laws that towers definitely need to know, and then we also have an insurance executive on staff at the event who does a segment as well on basically two segments on why you should be getting paid for these claims from the insurance end of it, but also insurances that you, as a business owner in the towing and recovery industry, might want to have as well.

Speaker 2:

Man, that's fantastic. You guys have it sounds like Jay covered everything A to Z on the helping these owners know where to start and how to get the money back for the services they provided. Let me ask this how long have you guys been doing this?

Speaker 4:

We have been doing this class since 2009. We've had over 3,000 attendees up to the state and they have been very, very successful. We started because of 241 back in the day. All the jobs we used to post, people used to call me, used to show up at my business from other states. Just pull in. How were you getting paid for these jobs you're posting? We've been doing it for 30 years and we're unable to get paid for these. Burn jobs off, these older vehicles over the guardrail. My family and I. That's how we come up with recovery billing is because all these questions were asked to us.

Speaker 4:

So we decided we'd love to share our information to the industry. So that's how it all came about. Was people asking the questions and then we wanted to be able to share it on a larger scale than just somebody individually. So it started in 2009 and then it really took off and it's actually getting bigger and bigger every year. Like I said we just did, a class in Tennessee was sold out.

Speaker 4:

They had to open two rooms, to open the wall to fit everybody. It just it brings us all together almost like a rec master, like we rec master. You feel close to the people that are in the same industry, when we teach a class and people come up at the end and they're like, wow, this is great. It's a lot of information in a short period of time. That's why a lot of people will attend other ones also, because it's like seeing a movie for the first time and then trying to implement seeing things and then when you see it two and three times, it really comes together for you. It's been a great ride. For the last 14 years 15 years now we've met the most unbelievable people in the industry and we always say there's no better people than the toe industry period.

Speaker 2:

Man, eric, I'm with you on that 100%. I've been in publishing 30 years and it's my favorite industry hands down. I've been in it 13 years and I absolutely love it. And you guys, you know we've recovered Billing Unlimited listeners. They have won the towing business the big will towing for many, many years, and they've taken all their knowledge and put that into these courses and just like Eric said, is to make sure that you, as an owner, can get paid for the work you do. So it's a tremendous service and it's something that's going to add an edge to your business, I think hands down.

Speaker 2:

Speaker 1:

You have been listening to Toe Professional on the Go podcast. This is a great one. Every week we do our best to bring you new and formative episodes. Make sure you download and listen. We're available on Spotify, itunes, pandora, stitcher, iheart Media, amazon or wherever you get your podcast. And since I am one of the people who have sat in a class, they were trying to, years ago they did a presentation for statewide and I listened to an hour and a half of Eric and Bob at the time and it was fantastic and 100% of the people that attended applied for the class. So let's do this. Do you think some people that just apply or moving forward can they go back and submit claims?

Speaker 4:

Yes, absolutely, because of the statute of limitation in your state. You just have to look up how far back to the incident that you had that they actually told you there was no coverage. You can resubmit them. We've had hundreds of toll companies resubmit old claims and get paid in full for them under the PD, because they had to submit it in a different way, not on a toll slip, you had to put it on a property damage cleanup slip. It's all in how you represent your recovery to the insurance company, because there's all different parts of an insurance policy that pays different things. So when you put it on, like the towing part, the first thing they say oh, they have no towing, they don't have collision. Well, I would tell them great, because I'm not texting the vehicle, so we're out of that. So I want to get paid under the property damage and liability yet.

Speaker 4:

So the way we go about it is we open a property damage claim and we are a vendor for the state of Massachusetts, so we are called there. No difference in a God real company. So don't you think those people get paid? Of course they do. They get paid under property damage.

Speaker 4:

Well, you can't fix the God real with the truck on top of it, so you're gonna remove the truck or the car. That how it all started back in. Or way, oh nine, I got paid on my first one with a Ford Explorer on top of a God rail. And then, ever since then, because I read the policy in the policy it says lots of use of loading and unloading of insured vehicles, even says an under property damage on on the coverage. So once I forwarded that to the insurance and I said you don't have to pay me for the tow, the owner is gonna pay for the tow and the storage, you just have to pay me to remove it. And the cleanup the debris or the oil you're gonna always do the cleanup also. That's part of the property damages. You have to have two factors. You're gonna have the recovery and you're gonna have some sort of cleanup, whether it's debris or fluids. That is what activates the property damage claim? Is it gonna be easy? No, because they've never paid us in 50 years for it.

Speaker 4:

So even the managers that moved up the line don't even know they're supposed to pay that. So sometimes I have to get into one. My attorney sends him a letter, but the majority of them we actually keep a folder of all the insurance companies that pay us under property damage, with a copy of the check and the claim number. So say, I'm dealing with a guide core or progressive Travelers or whoever. When the person tells me there's no coverage, I say hold on, look up this claim number and this date and I'm gonna send it over to you. And then, believe it or not, they call me back and go wow, I didn't know that we paid that. I said, yeah, we, I get paid on these all the time.

Speaker 4:

And then they said, okay, just send me your tax ID number and we'll forward you with payment. It actually goes very easy, especially when you have the ammunition behind you that you've been paid. We have a booklet that's 12 inches thick. We, we, we share that with the insurance companies that say there's no coverage.

Speaker 4:

I say hold on, because you never get the same person when you're trying to handle a claim. It's always the next person in line and, believe me, when I tell you you're at the low end of the insurance company, they're just trying to tell you no, because they can never, ever get in trouble for telling you no. But they'll get in trouble if they pay you when they shouldn't. So they always try to bounce it up to somebody higher and higher and I've had them all the way up. Tell me, no, it's not covered. And then my attorney sends them a letter and then next thing I know I'm getting a check in the mail.

Speaker 4:

It's because then it goes to their legal and they're like yeah, we owe you with it. We don't owe you for the toe in the storage. But don't get me wrong. I've been paid for toes and storage under PD because when they didn't pay the first part of it, they accumulated a lot of storage and other things that cost the the person to own the car, and I have been paid for storage and a toe on PD. It's only been a couple times because it was there. They caused it.

Speaker 1:

So they were obligated to pay me because it wasn't right what they did to their insurance there and I'm gonna tell you, listening to Eric, right now, our listeners are sitting there going what a great podcast this will be. We archive every one of these podcasts Eric and you and Jay will be listening to again and again and Again. What great information. I want to make sure all our listeners are taking notes, because if you have never taken advantage of this class, the next time this class is available, you better have your key person in a seat. Listen into this great family. What a great, great program, eric. Thank you so much for sharing, because that's why you help the industry you are. You are giving back To an industry that is giving to you. This is a fantastic project. I can't thank you enough.

Speaker 3:

Yeah and.

Speaker 4:

I'm just getting started because I want I want the listeners to know they hand me say legal people like, oh my god, do they fight everything in court? No, we've only been the court like maybe two, three times in 40 years and never gets that far. When I say legal, I'll send it to my attorney. He sends them a letter and then that's where it ends. People. Some people get scared oh, I don't want to do it. I don't want to fight and go to court all the time. I'm telling you it doesn't get that far. Don't get me wrong. There's some that want to fight you to the end.

Speaker 4:

And I can tell you right now if you document the scene and you do everything right, never lie, treat a steal, do not charge them for things you don't do. Don't charge for trucks that are not there. Don't charge for people that are not there. You got to be the professional. Do not ever lie, ever Be deceptive. You don't need to just get. All we ever want to do is get paid for what we do. And some people feel I'm gonna add this or add that and I'll cut my bill in half. I never want people to do anything ever dishonest, because you'll never be able to represent yourself self in the court if it ever goes forward. Because if you Charging for things you didn't do, believe me when I tell you it will come out during inter-onveteries Depositions. You don't want to do that. You always want to be the one that's being honest and truthful, because I can tell you right now they don't know your business. They're learning your business from your deposition. You're interrogatory because the insurance companies know zero about telling and recovery. They know the bad guy because and like in any industry, we have some that do things a little different than others and I don't condone to any of that and I just want you to always be on honest and mark down your times. Don't charge him eight hours when you're there four hours or two hours.

Speaker 4:

Some places we have minimums now for our state. You do need minimums on certain equipment because the equipment costs so much money. It's hard to charge by the exact hour, no different than when I call a police or fire out. They have a four hour minimum for like their details or their fire trucks. I even get bills from the fire department. Now I just started clean up the other day. They send me the bill and I get the fire department paid. Also, does it come under taxes? It comes under the road tax, like they pay after and all that. So that's how I'm able to send the bills to the insurance company from the fire department and they do pay them for any of the cleanups when they help us or they work with us. So that really goes a long way with the community. Is getting the small guys paid too for service that they render, eric I agree with you, Especially this month.

Speaker 1:

Here we have the federal trade commission going against towers nationwide and if they did what you are saying? Be honest, be true. If you only have two trucks out there, write down two. If only seven men are there and you write down 10, it's being deceptive. Don't be deceptive. Be proud of what the industry are and be a hero in your own community with your fire department by learning what you do. And you got me going. This is wonderful podcast.

Speaker 2:

This is good, dj, and I'm telling you just like he said, you can apply, like he was saying, you can apply everything you learn in this class back towards invoices that you weren't paid on and get paid. I mean, that's just telling our listeners right there. Guys, if you don't think you can afford going to this class, look at some of the things you haven't been paid on. You can afford not to go and it could pay for those invoices and get your dollars back in your pocket. I can't think of a better thing to grow your business than recovery billing unlimited. And it is like Eric said. It's like the rec master side of training when it comes to learning the billing side. It's that type of training and it's something that everybody needs to do. Well, listeners, hang in there. We're going to step out for one more break from our sponsors and come back to us. We'll have more information here. That's going to blow you away from Jay and Eric with recovery billing unlimited. Stay tuned.

Welcome back listeners. You are listening to Co-Professional on the Go Podcast. This has been one of our best. Remember to like, review and share everywhere, and if you would like to hear another industry expert like Eric and Jay, by all means just dial a hotline number here in the studio, 706-409-5603, and let us know who you'd like to hear in our industry so that you can learn, like we're learning today from Buildings Unlimited. It's these guys, eric and Jay. I can't thank you enough. So, eric, what are some of the questions or comments people say about the class?

Speaker 4:

Well, I heard that before I attended the class, the seminar, I was unable to buy equipment, certain equipment. We couldn't afford to send guys for training. We had no money to do that. We only had a couple trucks. We couldn't afford to put other trucks on because we weren't being getting paid for the jobs that we had done in the past. Just so, so much.

Speaker 4:

After the class they learned about the equipment that I talk about in the class, the safety, like auto grips, and grant trucks with side rails and people like what do you mean grant trucks with side rails? Because I get into the seminar about why side rails are very important, why auto grips are very important, why rotators are very important, I always get the people some people are old school still that say, oh, I don't really need a rotator. Well, they make them for a reason and I can tell you the only person that would say that is somebody that doesn't have one. So as as your business changes, like like I talked about Polaroid, they had Instamatic Cameras and then they went out of business because they didn't go digital. So if you do not change with the times, you get left behind.

Speaker 4:

So when you leave our seminar, we're just another tool in your toolbox in order to better your family, your industry, your, your workers, your equipment. Because I can guarantee you one thing once you leave our seminar, you will be in a better position you were before attending. If you change one thing in your business which I show you a hundred it'll change your bottom line tremendously. And I know when people say, oh, change your bottom line, charge more, charge double. That's not true. If you leave our seminar and your guys are safer, you don't have any insurance screens or you put cameras and you teach your guys that toolbox talks to be safe, you don't have any accidents with your trucks, your insurance stays low. Double in your bottom line doesn't mean double the price. It means be a more efficient and have trained Personnel, send them to recmaster. We pay for our guys to go or any training. I mentioned Recmaster a lot, but listen to me any training is good training.

Speaker 4:

If you can go somewhere and learn something, they're all good. I don't. I just use recmaster walk because we've done tremendous amount of classes here and I, like West, I've been to West's class is great. Tommy Luciano's class is great. I send my guys to Tommy. We do so much. We do CPI with our guys. We do not can we do. We train all our guys and everything and we really invest in our help and I think once people leave our class they start looking at things a little differently, because we've always been in an industry when nobody talks to each other.

Speaker 4:

Nobody wants to tell them how they do take more money. They want to keep it all to themselves. Do you think doctors do that or really smart people? They get people together and they want to share good information, because information is power. If you've got, knowledge is power. Because if I can tell you that that truck is covered, when they try to tell you there's no insurance, they don't load a 53 foot trailer without cargo insurance. There's a bond. There's somebody loading it because that hundreds of thousands of dollars. They just tell you that because 99% of the towers believe them. They just say I guess I'm not gonna get paid. Well, I'll get paid on the next one. Well, how many next ones you're gonna have before you're out of business?

Speaker 4:

So that's my that's what I've learned from people talking to me after they have attended our seminar how much it's changed their bottom line Just training fuel, pumping fuel for liability and I get into it in the class. Why does? Why do we pump fuel and iron the street for auto service? Because we had a tank link one night 20 years ago and leaked food in our pen. So now we have a company policy. If you implement company policies, it's gonna change your business. Have a company policy and every little thing that you do and You'll find that it works so much better.

Speaker 4:

And at the end of the day we pump the fuel. I don't charge them to dispose of it, but I make it so if it's in my storage facility, we are mitigate damage and we all have a duty to mitigate damage. That's how you get paid under property damage and liability is your duty to mitigate damage. You tell the insurance company I did that to mitigate damage. They're like whoa, these people know what they're talking about. They used to talk to the people that don't know anything About anything. We a lot of the tool guys will, as I get it. They get mad when they call them.

Speaker 4:

But you got to realize the person that's calling you to try to get money off the bill is just doing that job. Your job is to sell your job. You put your hot hat on when you're on the side of the highway. When you get back in your office. You got to put your salesman cap on because you got to sell the job, and if you can't sell the job, you can't get paid for the job. So that's why it's so important to pay attention and do everything right, itemize everything, no different. If you bring your card at the time dealership, if they just hand you a bill for 25,000, you're like, oh my god, 24, I'm not paying that. But if he broke it down and itemize everything they did put new motor, new transmission, new tires, new sharks and put all the prices there, you'll pay it.

Speaker 4:

I've seen bills come across my debt. People send me on white line paper for 50,000, pay me total Traxatriller took roll over, we can fuel 55,000. And the guy sends it to me and asked me how come we can't get paid. I tell him why we pay either, because I would not pay anything like that. If you represent your company like that, you will never, ever get paid. So that's, that's. That's what I've learned and people have talked to me that have tended my seminar and and it's changed their family, their business, I mean I could go on and on for weeks.

Speaker 4:

Oh, because they call me on a daily basis. My phone must ring 50 times a day from towers from the whole United States, hawaii, everywhere saying thank you. It's changed my business, my family, and every time they buy a new truck they send me a picture of it. Hey, thanks to you guys, we keep track of what we did before with a class and what we do now. We keep a money thing and I can't even tell you the amount that we used to give away that we didn't even know we could get paid for. We just thought it was all part of it. We didn't even charge for it. I'm like be like an ambulance service. You ever get a medical bill. They charge you for everything. That's what I learned Over the years I've been doing this, walking around the trade shows and people calling me, as it's all been positive.

Speaker 4:

I haven't heard any negatives. I have a couple here and there that if they don't Imply what I show you, then it's hard for me to help you. I bet people send me bills. Eric, I can't get paid. I said, well, send it over to me, let me look at it. I'm like, were you sleeping in the class? Oh, were you not even there, because this is Anything that's about. If there's anything I did you created this invoice have to leave in my class. I don't know why you went, because it's nothing that we talked about and that's why you're having a problem. Let's redo it, let's, let's go over it line by line, and then they come back. Oh, they paid me. Well, no, kidding, because you did it the way that I showed you, and I'm not saying that every bill gets paid. There's something you've got a fight. Well, I'm telling you, at 99.5% of the jobs I do are getting real quick.

Speaker 1:

Hey, darren, do you want to take the opportunity to read the one testimonial we got from the 26 year old Big and business? 26 years, oh yeah.

Speaker 2:

This is a good one, just like Eric was saying. This sums it up. I mean, you can always talk, I can always say how great a job to professional does, but I love it when the customer say it. And this is what this is what Eric and and J got from Joe's towing. He said I'd like to say I've been paid for several jobs since we've returned home from the class that before I was taking initial toe plus title and calling the boss and being excited about that. He's saying that just today we received a check on a liability only job that in the past we would have been lucky to get paid a hundred bucks and a title.

Speaker 2:

This class has made our two locations stronger and I've had customers. Thank us for taking the time to go the extra step. He says go, you won't regret it. They showed us how to get paid on jobs. But the biggest benefit to me was made. It's made in the towing business I've been in for 26 years. Fun again. Now listen that listeners. It made it fun again. Amazing what a profit does for one's more morale at work. So that was Joe's towing and he's telling you not only Did it affect his bottom line and now he's getting paid on things he wasn't paid on. But secondly, he's enjoying doing his job again. And how many of us have struggled through a job when you're struggling to get dollars in the door? Hey, when they're pouring in the door, that job's fun again and sounds like the prescription from From DJ Harrington the doctor. There would be an ample Course at recovery billing unlimited, would you say, dj.

Speaker 1:

I would. I'm gonna tell all of you. You're all good listeners and I can't thank you enough for telling your friends to listen to the podcast. This podcast has grown so much, but it's information that you receive here today that makes you earn more money in a business you should be proud of, so you can give back to your community, you can get back to your synagogue, you can get back to your churches, because Eric and Jay teach you how to improve your bottom line. And then, with improved bottom line, guess what your kid needs? Braces? You get it. You need a new truck? You get it because you're doing your profession and you listen to Eric. Let's do it professionally. Let's keep ethics in our business and these people are an example of it.

Speaker 1:

I listened to his dad, bob, and he in a class and I and there's no exaggeration 100% of everybody who attended the hour and I guess it was back then it was like an hour 15 minutes at statewide and they spoke to the whole group I, everyone signed up. It's the best investment you can make in your business, but it's the best investment you can make for your family, and that's what it's all about. So here's what I want to ask you when we sign up for a class. What can we bring with the class, like if we have an old bill. Jake, could we bring the old bill with us and you kind of look at it while we're in class?

Speaker 3:

Yeah, and that's a great idea. Bring, if you have, like, an old invoice that you're having difficulty getting paid on, if you have some questions on that invoice or you know multiple invoices, and also bring your insurance finder as well, because we do have an insurance executive on site that will look at it. He has no problem reviewing it at no extra cost or anything, because we've had a lot of people come to the class that don't have basic on-hook coverage motor, truck, cargo, things of that nature. So that's also, you know, comes with. You know, increasing your bottom line is you don't want to have things that you know can affect your insurance and you know that itself could even put you out of business. So basically, anything we can do to help you guys that you want to ask us, please bring that to the class. There'll be time that you can ask you know things in a group, setting things more privately during, say like lunch or at a break or even after the class. We can say and kind of discuss things more privately if you needed that as well.

Speaker 1:

Alright. So, jay, right now we're on the podcast. How can they get a hold of you guys? Give us an email address and a phone number, or something of that nature.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, the best way would be to contact us through the website. So our website is recoverybillingseminarscom and there'll be a contact form in there that'll shoot an email over to us, so you won't even have to. You know, start an email chain, it'll start a contact form with us so we'll be able to communicate with you that way. Our phone number is also 508-763-5474.

Speaker 1:

And do you take Visa, MasterCard, American Express or just personal checks?

Speaker 3:

Nope, we do. You have when you register for the class. You can pay by credit card. It's very easy, gotcha.

Speaker 1:

Alright, daryn, I'm telling you this is the best and, as I said, as you said, my prescription, my prescription is that everyone should send their general manager, their themselves, to this wonderful class to help you and your family. So I'll turn it over to you, daryn, I'll tell you they couldn't set it better.

Speaker 2:

I mean, the difference between a small business and a growing business is knowledge, and you can get it right here. Like I said, they'll teach you everything from building the proper tow business foundation document, the scene start to finish. Draft in the documentation packet to send to a payer, the biggest thing, how to respond to. Sorry, that's not covered. We never pay. That Laws that towers need to know. They go over top to bottom. So if you want to grow your business, I can tell you that's the best investment for your recovery. Billing unlimited.
