Speaker 1:

Welcome one and all to Toe Professional Podcast. This is your podcast. It's for the pros that have a need to know that are on the go. This is the true voice of the towing and recovery industry. I'm DJ Harrington, your co-host, better known as the Toe Doctor.

Speaker 2:

And the real host of the program is the president and publisher of Toe Professional Magazine, a good friend of the industry and a dear friend of mine, darren Weaver. Darren, how are you today? As always, being able to talk to you on a daily basis, I am doing fantastic. I'm here on a bit of a somber note. Today.

Speaker 2:

We've got something that me and you have talked about, that's been on our hearts, that we really wanted to cover, and I am excited to be able to do that this evening. And let me tell you, folks that are listening, we have Tabitha Capps, wife of Ryan Capps, with Capps Auto Towing, from Hendersonville, north Carolina, on with us today as a special guest, and what she's going to do is she's going to help open everyone's eyes, give them an inside look of what our nation is dealing with, what our tow operators, our first responders, are dealing with and what our citizens of the nation are dealing with on a daily basis here, from the coast all the way up through North Carolina and they're based in Hendersonville, north Carolina and a heart for the Lord and a servant's heart to go serve the community, and that's one thing we're going to talk about today. So, ej, I'm excited about this one. I tell you.

Speaker 1:

I agree with you, my friend Tabitha. If you'd be kind enough to tell our listeners you're in Hendersonville.

Speaker 3:

How far are you from Asheville, North Carolina? Probably about 30 minutes from Asheville. I'm not exactly sure how many miles, but 30-ish minutes from Asheville.

Speaker 1:

Okay, what I want to ask you is and then we'll turn it over to Darren can ask a question but my wife and I are saying, okay, here we have the Caps family, Ryan and Tabitha, bringing clothes to people, and some of these people, their whole home, got washed away by the floods. So can I ask you, what are some of the things you and Ryan are doing that maybe we'd like to hear about?

Speaker 3:

Well, at first it started that we were just sort of volunteering at distribution centers, you know, distributing water that people had donated or you know, laundry, soap or supplies, and then you think last week was 80 degrees and this week it's 30 degrees in the morning, like Thursday is supposed to be 37. This morning was 35. These people don't have a home, they don't have clothing, they certainly don't have warm clothing and a lot of places were not taking clothing donations to pass out. So that is what we started with, just as our personal project like collecting winter clothing form clothing, hats, toboggans, gloves.

Speaker 1:

Now could I ask you is the electricity turned on at your place, because I know you've been out with electricity for 15 days.

Speaker 3:

We were yes, yes, we do have electricity now. There are still some parts of Henderson County that do not, but we are very fortunate. But there are places just here in Henderson County that it's probably going to be another two weeks or longer before they get power.

Speaker 1:

Oh, my, all right, darren, I'll turn it over to you. You can ask the next one.

Speaker 2:

Well, I think the next question I want to ask is there's so many places that are in need of help and I know a lot of the big concerns are, hey, let's get some water in there, let's get some food in there. But I do want our listeners to think about the long term on this, because we can get them some things today and next week, but, just like Tabitha said, it's 30 degrees. I think I saw today it was snowing in Sugar Mountain, north Carolina, so it's already cold. The folks that do have homes that have been damaged just think about how you would start a day on a daily basis with that. So, tabitha, I know there's many other things. So what are some of the main things that our listeners could help with that would be of biggest assistance to you from our vendors and from our toe owners out there?

Speaker 3:

So any kind of warm clothing, especially children's clothing. We get a lot of adult clothing and we're certainly willing to still take that because there are certainly a lot of adults that still need clothing and blankets and the such. So don't think that I'm turning that down, but there is a big need for, um, school-aged children's clothing I think, you know they wear it out a lot, so a lot of people don't donate that, and that's that's a big need well, fantastic.

Speaker 2:

well, that's that first off, that's going to help me in my house, because I've got a lot of that that needs to be donated and, as I said, we're going to start getting a trailer together here.

Speaker 2:

But, folks, I tell you, with Christmas coming up also, that's something we've got to think about. Now we not only have families that are displaced, but we also have families with children that are going to feel like they're going to miss Christmas altogether and Santa might not be able to find them. So I know our owners in the industry and I know she knows this, tabitha have some of the biggest hearts when it comes to helping out around Christmas time, getting toys for the kids. But I would say that should be one of the big essentials right now is helping kids with some things that will take their mind away from a lot of the things that are going on and give them some solace and some peace for the time that they can step away to. Also, what about the animals? What needs are you hearing for animals and other things that can be a? T or livestock, because I know there's a lot of neighbors there dealing with livestock as well.

Speaker 3:

still, Most needs would be hay for the horses or the cattle, because a lot of that got washed away, and, of course, dog food, cat food, dog bowls, cat bowls all of that is needed, the people that were fortunate enough to get to save their animals. The animals still have nothing, just like the families. Their whole house washed away. They need it all. It's catastrophic.

Speaker 2:

It's pitiful.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, I can't even think of myself and me and DJ were talking about this the other day I couldn't think about losing my house, but if that also meant that I couldn't work and support my family. We've also got to think about that, lisha, because we've got a lot of people not only displaced, but now they're not able to get to their jobs, they're not able to work. Mortgage payments still do. So. When you find communities, when you find great people with hearts, like the Caps here, that can help out in the community, it helps. Those things are helpful.

Speaker 2:

I know we had somebody we were talking to the other day that got a couple hundred dollars, didn't want to ask a volunteer asked him can you get any cash out there? And they said oh yes, that'll put some food back in our refrigerator and we can get some other things we need for the kids. And that was their biggest thing. They wanted to eat and they wanted something for the kids, to give the kids something. Dj, let's do this. Let's take a quick break and hear from our wonderful sponsors and then we'll come back and let's talk with Tabitha more about how our community can get in touch with them and reach out to Tabitha and Ryan Capps and be able to help out and know that they're reaching the folks there in Hendersonville and making an impact. Listeners, hang in there, we'll be right back.

Welcome back listeners. Of course you know you're listening to Toe Professional on the Go podcast Every week. We do our very best to bring you informative episodes. Now, this one's kind of a special one because this is with a great guest of a special one, because this is with a great guest, tabitha Capps, and she's from Western North Carolina, where the disaster has been there. So I want all our listeners please make sure you download and listen. We're available on Spotify, itunes, pandora Stitcher, itunes Pandora Stitcher, iheartmedia, amazon or wherever you get your podcasts. Now, before I go to Tabitha, I wanted Chuck Camp, our producer, who very seldom speaks, but this is a special edition. So, chuck, I want you to chime in and tell us a little bit of what you and your wife were putting together on a box, going up to the captions.

Speaker 5:

Well, the timing is perfect. My son and his wife have been living with us for a while and they're moving out, so we've been cleaning out closets, so this is a perfect time to put those items to use. And my wife is a huge animal lover. She says I don't like people, but I love animals. But in this case she loves people. And she went to Walmart and picked up some animal toys and she said I wish we had a trailer so we could go up there and bring some horses home.

Speaker 1:

Boy, oh boy, and Tabitha, I have to tell you I'm putting together an article that will go into Tow Professional Magazine at the next edition. And I went through my sock drawer and I had 56 pairs of socks. So now I have 24 pairs and I think that's still too many, but the rest are on their way to you. But this is the thing, darren. I wrote down school bags, school supplies, anything that could be, you know, and if you have clothing, warm clothing, but right now they're living in tents. And one gentleman that I saw on Fox television from up there, tabitha, they had two by fours in the ground with a blue tarp over the two-by-fours as your tent.

Speaker 3:

Yes, that has been multiple families. The devastation is not just in this area, you know. It's surrounding counties and we're trying to do what we can for all of them. That's why we took it upon ourselves to start this, so that we know that it goes to the right people, the people that are really in need.

Speaker 1:

Now is Ryan going on his four-by-four. I mean, do you go so far with your truck and then the rest of you go by four-by-four? How are you getting to do some of this?

Speaker 3:

Well, luckily, we have not had to do that, to do some of this. Well, luckily we have not had to do that. We have people that we know and trust that can go in with that for us, because both of us have been, you know, extremely crushed for time. As you can imagine, the flooded cars are keeping us quite busy, and that's, you know. Yet another thing they don't just lose their home, they lose their vehicle. They have lost every single thing that they have, like everything they've worked their whole life for. So we have been very fortunate to have people that are close to us, that have the 4x4s that can get further back than we can to distribute the supplies to those. We have seen, you know, we have been to areas that are not as remote, that have been totally destroyed Some trailer parks where there was like 15 trailers and all but one was demolished and all of the people in that park were sleeping in one single-wide trailer.

Speaker 1:

Oh boy. Oh my goodness.

Speaker 3:

So we've sent, they have gotten help and they have found them some places to stay, which is a blessing because, as you can imagine, places to stay are hard to find with so many people being displaced from their homes.

Speaker 1:

Right and you told me off the air that the Americans' curse has been there, the Red Cross has been there, but they really could use our help. I know Samaritan's Purse, you know they were and Darren will do it properly with us. Samaritan's Purse said you can send us money, but they need prayers more than anything Absolutely. But they need prayers more than anything Absolutely. I want to tell some of our listeners if you don't have clothing, at least you have a prayer life and you can say a few prayers for them, and that is exactly what we need.

Speaker 3:

Prayer is a priority.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, all right, aaron, I'm turning it over to you. Yes, sir.

Speaker 2:

Well, I tell you again, I remember that thing that my wife told me many times. That's made me a better man. And she says when you pass somebody, you never know what they're carrying. And we've got to remember there's so many people there that have worked so hard. They're just like our first responders out there. They've got a cervic part, their blue collar. They've worked hard their whole life and they've worked for everything they've got and now it's all been washed away, um.

Speaker 2:

So let me tell you something. I only know one thing that can lift that up as a piece that passes all understanding and that will bring hope and joy. So I do ask our, our listening audience to to pray for these families, um, to pray for their, their healing, for their protection during these times. That they get put with good people. Um, that will help them and I think that's the the the biggest reason me and DJ are on this today is because what we've heard um through many different social markets and media pieces, is the local people of North Carolina, tennessee and other areas saying hey, 70, 85% of the help we've got has been from the locals from our community that's come in and helped build the roads and help bring the community back together. So if we can get our supplies to CAPS Auto Towing they know the people that they can put it in the hands of they're going to get it to the people in need. And I think that's the biggest thing when we deal with any disaster is knowing if we're getting our stuff to the right people. And let me tell you, with a family and a brotherhood that's just a big family like towing I certainly know we're in the right place to get it there to do the help.

Speaker 2:

Let's see this DJ anything before we take another break here. Do you have any questions?

Speaker 1:

Can we give the address before we take the break, Because I know we've got some listeners that are going to say let me get my pen and paper.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, let's do that.

Speaker 1:

Travis can or you can Darren.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, I don't mind doing it. You can send any packages to 502 South Whited, that's W-H-I-T-T-E-D and I'm probably mispronouncing that, but 502 South W-H-I-T-T-E-D Street and that's Hendersonville, north Carolina. And is that the correct address, tabitha, since I went ahead and threw that out there?

Speaker 3:

It is Okay.

Speaker 2:

And the zip code on that that's going to be North Carolina again, of course, and the zip code Tabitha, if you'll help me with that 28739.

Speaker 3:

And can I just interject just real quick? Yes, ma'am, people have lost everything that they've gotten. Many people were out of work, and just because the power comes on doesn't mean that the refrigerator kills itself or that Christmas is going to be bought because you had to resell your refrigerator, or that you got to go back to work just because the power came on. A lot of families are still going to suffer just from being out of work and not having electricity, so I hope that we can remember that too.

Speaker 2:

And again, like I said, folks, it's not a quick fix. So this is going to be something that we're going to have a need over the next at least six months to a year. So I would say, if you can give, give with your heart, give what you can. This is a great opportunity. I'm using it to talk to my kid about hey, there's some things we've got here that we've held on to toys and other things that would be great and make others very happy and I know my kid will be 100% in on that one to turn some toys loose and to help clean out the garage for dad.

Speaker 2:

So I think we can all do a good job with that in our community, with our families, and say you know what, if we have a little less than a lot of people have a whole lot more, and a lot more these days means hope and uh, courage and um, and understanding and humanity for another day, and there's a lot of folks out there that need that uh, today. So let's uh, we're going to take a quick break, but again, one more time, listeners, um, if you're here, that is again 502 south whited street, whitted street, hendersonville, north carolina, and uh, hold on, we'll be right back with more from tabitha of caps auto towing when we come back. So hang in there, listeners we'll, and their listeners We'll be right back.

So, tabitha, I know that we're going through draws and putting stuff together, so I want to give you that's my shot. Speaker 2:

Yes again, tabitha, thank you and Ryan and Caps Auto Towing for all that you're doing and for your service. We just commend you for that and for your service, art, we just commend you for that and we know you do it just to help the folks because it's your heart and we know our community will respond behind it. So, thanks again and just remember folks again. 502 South Whited Street, whitted Street, hendersonville, north Carolina. Or you can go to their Facebook page, caps Auto Towing at Hendersonville, north Carolina. You can can go to their Facebook page, caps Auto Towing, that of Hendersonville, north Carolina. You can find them right there as well for information.

Speaker 2:

Well, again, I'd like to end with a prayer, and I think it's needed now as much as ever, dj, but I'd like to bow our heads. Dear Heavenly Father, I thank you for this great towing community. I thank you for the families that stand on the white line every day and go out there with a servant's heart to bring other families home and to make sure that they're safe. But, father, we have a lot of loved ones out there now, a lot of folks across our country that have lost loved ones, from the coast all the way to North Carolina and further, that have lost homes, that have lost clothing, that have lost pets, that have lost just every essential it takes to put a home together and to get through a day. And, dear Heavenly Father, I just ask that you cover them with protection, that you give them hope, that you show them that there's greater days and brighter days to come, that this is not the end of their story but the beginning, and that you will build them back stronger. Dear Heavenly Father, I ask that you bless our vendors, bless them with wisdom, knowledge, help them grow, give them a heart to help in our plight, to bring these necessities to the victims that are hurting across the nation. And, dear Heavenly Father, I just thank you for this industry. I ask for your healing, for your protection for those families and just to touch their hearts and to be with them during this time.

Speaker 2:

And, listeners, let me just say one more time and say amen. And let me say one more time let's not forget this will fade off of the news in the next couple of weeks. It'll be forgotten about when it comes to the recent things going on. I know we've got elections coming up. I know we've got a lot of things on people's mind, but let's remember, no matter who's in the White House, there's people in Florida, there's people in Tennessee, there's people in North Carolina that don't know where that next meal's coming from, that don't even have a coat to take on this winter weather.

Speaker 2:

So whatever our community can do to help out. I know you'll respond in an overwhelming way you always do but we ask that you step in and help Caps Auto Towing and also honor them out there for being a fellow family member in towing that was quick to jump to the line and said hey, let me go in, coach, I'm willing to help. So thank you and God bless you for that, tabitha, for you and Ryan and your work there, and if there's anything we can do going forward, you let us know and we'll be glad to use our network to help you any way we can.

Speaker 3:

Thank you, sir, very much, I appreciate it.

Speaker 2:

You're welcome, dj Chuck. Thank you Great show and, dear God, we just ask that you be with those people and bring them the folks that they need In their life, to reach them and to speak life into them, to let them know the brighter days are here to come.

Speaker 1:

Darren, I thank you For letting us have. This was a great podcast and I look forward to helping the cause.
