A lot of towing gear looks great for five minutes in a parking lot. We wanted to know what happens after 2,200 miles of the worst roads we can find, long heat-soaked runs, and the kind of stops that mirror real calls. Darian Weaver sits down with Jason Giddens, co-founder and VP of Sales at JB Tow, to talk about taking a mobile showroom on the road and using it to rebuild something the towing and recovery industry depends on: trust, safety, and community.
We get into what actually held up, including the real-world performance of Collins Super G7X dollies and the battery life results from Towmate wireless tow lights. Jason explains the habits that matter just as much as the products like checking hubs, rechecking straps, and treating securement like a non-negotiable. We also talk about the gear operators keep asking for, why customer service still wins business, and how simple tools can improve roadside professionalism while keeping you cleaner and faster on scene.
Then we hit the hard topic: DOT compliance and liability. Jason breaks down why “never strap dollies” is a dangerous myth, how unsecured load risk can land on you and your company, and how a few minutes of proper securement can protect your job. We close with the tow family side of the story, including a request to keep the Wagaman family in your thoughts as they search for Tyler.

Welcome And Move Over Reminder
SPEAKER_04Well, welcome one and all. You are there. We are here. This is Tow Professional Podcast. Remember, this is your podcast. It's for the pros that have a need to know that are on the go. And it's truly the voice of the towing and recovery industry. I'm Darren Weaver, owner, publisher. Everything else you want to put under the sun, you throw a title to it, I'll do it. All you got to do is ask nicely, and I mean. And I'm here today with uh co-founder and VP of sales, Jason Giddens of uh JB Toe. And this is a great friend of the uh of the publication and of this industry. And uh a lot of our listeners out there know him from the incredible TikTok videos and his uh day-to-day knowledge of the products and putting it out there uh to help our listeners uh be able to come home safely every day. And that's one thing he emphasizes on every video. It slow down, move over, it's the law and it can save a life. So, Jason, welcome to the podcast and good morning, sir.
SPEAKER_06Thank you very much, brother. Uh I I enjoy doing these things and I love showing the world that there's a better way to do things, and we got to be safer when it comes to our tower operators out there. Move over, exactly.
SPEAKER_04So thank you. Exactly. You're welcome. You're welcome. Well, brother, I've been I've been watching you on TikTok. I know you've had a a lot of different products you've been showcasing lately. Uh, one of those being the uh G7X Dollies from Collins, the the Tow Lights from Tow Mate, and so on. And you actually took these products and and uh went out there and did a tour. So uh I wanted to ask to start off is what inspired you and Wags, man? I love him. I love what he does to team up together and take a 2200-mile road trip instead of just simply attending the trade shows.
SPEAKER_06Well, uh my goal and also Wags goal, we have a lot of same uh the same goals for the industry. We want to bring some
Why The 2,200-Mile Road Tour
SPEAKER_06unity back to the towing community. Uh we need to start loving each other again, we need to start helping each other again. We need to come together and break bread together, we need to do things together, we need to interact together. So, with the help of Collins, uh people like Toe Professional Magazine, uh, all of our sponsors like BA BA, Toe Tools, Toe Mate, uh Collins, uh, obviously JB Toe, and and and so many other people. Uh, they we wanted to bring good products to people, real world type, instead of just going out and driving 10 miles with the dollies. We I put 2200 miles on the things on the worst roads in the country. So we want to show people that what products actually do. Like the tow mate lights, they made it almost 1800 miles, literally on one charge. That saber was just kicking butt. And BA straps held them dollies together for the entire venture. So we want to come out, we want to show people products, we want to interact with each other, I want to build relationships. I just don't want to sell you a product. Uh, I want to come out, I want to be your tow brother. I want to, I want to meet your family. I want to, I want to break bread with the owners, the operators, their family members. Uh, if there's somebody that's fallen and we can come help raise money to get some electric bill money or some food money for these babies that are missing their parents. Uh, we're here to do all that. Bring awareness for the towing museum. That was super cool. We were privileged enough to put an event on at the Chattanooga Towing Museum. So, hands down, that was just awesome. Uh, to my knowledge, supposedly nobody's ever done that at Towing Museum. So that's a first for the industry. So, I mean, that's I just don't even know what to think about that. I just, this whole road trip was fantastic. From the day one from when we pulled out of Tampa and started our first stop in O'Cala to our last stop at Cooks in Smyrna, Tennessee, just outside of Nashville. Wow.
SPEAKER_04That that sounds like a fantastic trip. And from what I could see, man, from watching the TikTok videos and everything, you guys were just the interaction there with every community, man. The the the uh both man and wife, they were happy as they could be that you were there and their kids were having fun checking out the tool truck and everything. And uh, I tell you, you've you you've got a uh virtual uh Costco on wheels for the towing industry, man. They can just step in there and find anything they need. So uh let me ask you this along this road, what were some of the the biggest lessons you learned after traveling more than than 2200 miles and visiting tow companies across multiple states?
SPEAKER_06Uh well the lessons learned. Well, I should plan a little better. Uh uh make sure I take the paper with so I mean with that being said though, uh I mean, lessons learned, that's a hard one, I guess you could say. Uh I learned that it's great that we can go out and interact with people. Um I learned that we need to bring the community together, like even the kids. I never thought about including the kids. And at some places, the uh we actually had kids doing the lockout challenge, which was neat. There's the she had to be four or five years old. I mean, it was awesome. And uh I mean, and just it's tough. That's a tough question, darn it, man. Uh I I just planning this whole trip was a new adventure. Before I did this, I just stopped at random towing companies. But this was a different thing. We showed up, we we set up and did the lockout challenge, the the Dolly challenge. And uh planning would have been a would have made it a little better, but I don't think it could. This first trip was just awesome. Uh, me trying to do it by myself, besides me, Wags was doing Wags's thing, but me trying to do the truck and help with the lockout challenge, in the future, I should reach out to people and see if there's a couple volunteers
Lessons Learned And Training Operators
SPEAKER_06that could help us pull some of that stuff off. And so planning was my uh is my biggest lesson learned in this is just learning how to plan these events to where they're more productive for the people and us, and so they can be super interactive and everybody can really get the full experience of what we're doing on the road.
SPEAKER_04Love it, man. I love it. And I saw you actually have one participant on the uh on the dolly challenge that had never thrown a set of dollies before and actually did pretty well. You were able to instruct them through it.
SPEAKER_06We actually we taught three people in total on the trip that have never touched dollies before uh on how to use a set of dollies. And that and that's part of the part of the whole road trip thing. Uh, you don't have to come out and do the challenge and be good at it. And even if you don't want to do the challenge, you want to learn how to use the product, just ask. We will teach you. We will pull you off to the side once the event's done, or even before the event or during the event, and and and show you how to use that particular product, explain it, walk you through it. Part of these trips is teaching people how to be safer, how to use other equipment they've never used before. And that guy was a trooper that was on an incline on rough clay. So it ain't like you could knock the dirt out of the way and level the ground out. It was uneven ground on a hill, and he was a trooper, man. So I gave him the prize anyway. So I mean, the least he deserved was that that gift card, man, and a in a dollies t-shirt. Because I actually, because I had to tow that behind my truck, I redid the dollies when we were done just to make sure that they were good enough for me to tow down the interstate. And that was a super pain in the butt on that incline. I've been throwing dollies for a very long time. So that that was an accomplishment. His name was Brandon. What a great guy. And then in two different other locations, we taught two other people that have never touched dollies before. So it was a really good venture, and we got to teach some people some knowledge. And a little kid got to learn how to do a lockout.
SPEAKER_04Oh man, that yeah, I saw that too. That uh that was heartwarming right there to see that, and she's so excited. So um, I I tell you, it shows, man. You're uh in a world of uh of companies where you you only see them at shows, and it's just uh a phone call and place an order over the phone with somebody you might not be familiar with. It's neat to see uh distributors out there in the market like yourself that are going out, shaking hands, uh and lending an ear and listening for uh the needs and concerns of that owner uh and their employees and helping them along and being able to show them so that they're safer and that they get back home to their families. So uh man, I commend you for that, man. Great job. Well, let's do this, Jason. So let's take a let's take a uh a quick break for our sponsors. And uh listeners, when we come back, we're gonna hear more great information on these dollies, uh, on the tow make products and the uh that perform so well on this trip. Uh so you don't want to miss this one. We'll go to our uh sponsors and we'll be right back. So hang in there.

SPEAKER_04Well, welcome back. You are listening to Toe Professional Podcast, and every week we do our best to bring you great guests and industry information, like co-founder and VP of sales with JB Toe Jason Giddens, that we have on this week. So make sure you download and listen. We're available on Spotify, iTunes, Pandora, Stitcher, iHeartMedia, Amazon, and wherever you get podcasts, and also on YouTube. So check us out, Toe Professionals on the Go podcast. Well, we're back, like I said, with co-founder and VP of sales, Jason Giddens with JB Toe, and we're learning about this uh, I think one of the I guess first ever 2200 mile road trips out there, uh, seeing customers and interacting and having pop-up lockout challenges and dolly contests to be able to throw dollies. So let me ask you this. I want to I want to get into and ask about the product. How did the Collins Super G7X dollies and the Towmate towing lights and the other equipment perform after the thousands of miles of this of this real world testing?
SPEAKER_06Uh the dollies killed it. Uh they made all 2200 miles. The only time I took them dollies off the car is when I had to get some work done to the truck in Columbus, Georgia. And as soon as they were done with the truck, I put the dollies right back on and continued the journey. So they went up 95, which is, in my opinion, one of the worst roads in all of the South. Uh we've most of us have driven through downtown Atlanta, through Atlanta, period. Some of the worst roads in construction. Uh, Mount Eagle. Uh, you you should personally know about the roads in Alabama. Uh there, there's some decent pile holes and some rough transistors uh across bridges and in and then even Florida, we have some of the crappiest roads too. And uh I never had to do anything but just check my straps when I pull over to get fuel or to get a bite to eat or uh or just to use the restroom or whatever it was. We always check the straps, check the dollies, check the hubs. Not once were the hubs hot to the point of like, oh Mo, we should like sit. Not one time. Yeah. Uh the the tow lights, like I said, they made it 1,700 miles or so on one charge. I mean, rough weather. Uh, we didn't see a lot of rain, but uh coming out of Jacksonville through uh all up through um Savannah, we had some really good weather. Uh and like I said, the rest of it was just hot. So you think if we were gonna have a bearing issue or a tire issue on them hot roads doing 60, and I did get it up to 75 a couple times, but the tow dolly I was using from U-Haul suggests only go 55. But uh I did want to hit the 75 mile an hour mark just so I can honestly say that we took them G7X super dollies, they went 75 miles an hour on the interstate. Uh, and we averaged roughly probably 55-60 miles an hour for the entire trip. Uh I mean, they're I mean, we're not have one issue with the dollies. Original tires, original bearings, and the same straps I left Florida with were on them when I got back to Tampa. So yeah, they they they they did everything Collins ever said they would do, and then some.
SPEAKER_04Man, that's unbelievable. And like you said, that's a there's a big difference between throwing a car on it, driving it around the block, and saying, I mean, these things work great, and uh actually putting it to that true real-world test. 2200 miles, that's uh you could say that's probably at least two years of in-service work uh at a tow company in one trip.
SPEAKER_06Uh well now keep in mind I also took them off roading. I put a box truck on them, uh, the Cyber Truck Beast. Uh, I mean, we we really we've been testing these, and I'm actually gonna put the box truck back on them and tow it here, hopefully one day this week, and I'll post that stuff out there too. So we're really working these things. They're not just putting cars on them, we're using the heck out of these things.
SPEAKER_04Man, that's fantastic. Well, tell tell us about some of the uh uh while we're on this, we're I know we talked about the uh Collins Dolly's the tow mate, but let's tell our listeners about the the breadth of products that you do offer. I mean, you've got many other products, but just sides these that you offer that you were interacting with with the customers. So uh what would you say is the is some of the top picks from your from your customers?
SPEAKER_06Uh the can in hand from BA, which is super cool. It's basically a pop-up garbage can, or or you can lay it on the ground to keep from being dirty. Uh I know a lot of people when you're out on the road, you don't really think about it, but when you're getting in and out of customers' cars and you lay on the ground, you don't think about it, man. You're roadside. You just want to get under the vehicle if you have to, get whatever you need secured, get the car secured, and get off the road. So you're not digging out stuff and trying to clean off and change shirts. The can of hand is super cool. It's either a trash can or like a like a temporary creeper
Favorite Gear Plus DOT Liability
SPEAKER_06you could throw into the vehicle and not lay in the dirt, which will help you keep your customer's car from getting dirty. And at the end of the day, man, customer service is how you get returns. People call you back because they see you going the extra mile. Uh, like the another big hit was the green mamba uh webbing from uh from BA, their newest, their newest line of uh straps. Uh them things were just people that's man, what about this? And do you love this? We love the green. And then they had a lot of questions about how the resin in it keeps it from uh from uh the sun and weather from tearing them up. I mean, and the and the webbing is just strong. It's a great strong web, it's high viz. And that was a big popular one. And then you had uh the UFO lights from Darkwing. People were really loving them as a safety project that goes on cones. Uh, as always, the big Stiffies and the Fat Boys because of the challenges. And we actually had a lot of questions about strapping dollies because everybody's seen us strapping dollies. And and believe it or not, as sad as this is, I hear it all the time, oh, never strap dollies. What people don't realize this comes from the Department of Transportation and three different engineers I talk to. If them dollies come apart and they're not strapped, you are 100% liable for whatever happens. Even if somebody runs into you, that is an unsecured load. And you are responsible, the company you work for will suffer the consequences of operators not strapping dollies. So you will not see any video of me towing anything on them dollies without a set of legitimate rated BA straps on them to keep them dollies together. Accidents happen, I understand, man. But if you take this three minutes to secure your dollies, then at the end of the day, if something does happen, you've covered your own butt and the company you work for. And liability is huge in the towing industry. So lower your liability and keep yourself employable.
SPEAKER_04Exactly. Great, great information there. Great information, good point, Jason. Uh well, next I want to go to is I want to ask you about this lockout challenge. So why do you think the the lockout challenge and the Collins uh G7X Dolly challenge were such ahead at every stop along the tour?
SPEAKER_06Well, everybody wants to prove they're the baddest, the quickest, the strongest. And so we play on that ego a little bit. Uh people come out and you'll see the comments on the post. Oh, I could have done it in this time, or I could have done it this time. Uh why didn't you do it this way? It generates conversation amongst operators. Uh, we get to go out there, we're having fun together. You know what I mean? We're doing something together as operators. Uh, we're we're getting to see some of these guys have never even used a big stiffy, and now they get to use a new product, they get to learn new techniques from other operators. Uh-huh. So it isn't just going out there and seeing who's the fastest. We're learning from each other, we're getting to interact with each other, and and because of these events, people are becoming together and making new friends. And allies, and tow family, as I say, because and and I use that term seriously because by doing all this, we're building a community and we can help each other like family does. They support my family, I want to support their family. So, I mean, the lockout challenges and the dolly challenges bring us together to do things together and build some camaraderie, like the like the dolly challenge. A lot of these guys have never even touched a set of G7 super dollies. So they're excited to see what they weigh, how easy they are to use, the safety mechanism uh that will keep them dollies from slapping you in the back of the head or the shoulder or what or even damaging a car. If you let go of that bar, what if it knocks the mirror off the car? So just these people learning about these products, if it's the stiffy or if it's the Collins or if it's safety equipment, uh, we're not afraid to ask questions or go over product on the road. If I can find a product that'll help you out, we're here for you. I answer the phone almost 24-7. So I mean, I don't let hours depict when I take care of my customers. If my phone rings and I'm awake, I answer it. It's just that simple. And I'll give you a customer service. And if I don't have the advice you need, I will seek it out for you and get it from the right person. I'm not gonna give you bad information. If I don't know about it, I'm not just gonna make something up.
SPEAKER_04So I guess that's the same. Yeah, you made some really you make a good point, Jason. You made some really good videos uh to where not only you've showed how to use the products, but you even showed the the proper maintenance procedure on how to clean those dollies after they've been used to re-lube them and to make sure they look 100%, uh, which shows off the quality and and and your value in your equipment, but also it keeps it lasting and you get your investment out of it. So I thought that was really neat the video you did on showing how to maintain that dolly, how to lube it, how to make sure it's in best working
Challenges Build Community And Safer Habits
SPEAKER_04order every time you take it out there. Because, like you said, a lot of people will complain, hey, the safety latch isn't working right, this it and that. And just like you showed, it can pick up all that road grime, dirt, and so on, and that can affect the performance. And if we're gonna have a product like this, we have to not only watch our safety procedures when we use it, but we have to do the proper maintenance on it to keep it up to par, would you say?
SPEAKER_06Oh, yeah. If you don't take care of it, don't complain about how it doesn't work right. So, I mean, it's like changing the oil in your tow truck, man. Yeah. I mean, it what's gonna happen? If you don't take care of your tow truck, you're not gonna have no way to make money.
SPEAKER_04Amen. Same same thing with your products. Definitely, definitely. Tools gotta be taken care of, or they will not be a tool anymore. They'll uh they'll be a problem. Well, listeners, we're gonna do this. We're gonna take one more break for our sponsors. When we're gonna when we come back, we're gonna have more information from Jason Giddens, co-founder and VP of sales for JB Toe, about the fantastic products. The interaction with our towing community on this last 2200-mile road trip. So thanks again for listening. Stay tuned. We'll be right back.

So make sure you download and listen, you share. We're available on Spotify, iTunes, as I said, Pandora, Stitcher, iHeartMedia, Amazon, and wherever you get your podcast. Also, you can find us on YouTube under Toe Professional On the Go podcast. So again, we're back with Jason Giddens and uh Jason, man, this has been great, brother. This is uh sounds like a fantastic trip, but tiresome. Um, and uh want to ask you a little bit more about it. So um my my next question is what was the most memorable moment from the road trip that reminded why you're reminded you and brought you back to why you're passionate about the towing industry and the tow family?
SPEAKER_06Uh it's it's it's
Tow Family Support And Next Trips
SPEAKER_06several moments, believe it or not. Uh we we bought a new truck to build into the mobile showroom. Uh and we didn't have a chance to do any real testing or driving it around on a short trip. So we built it and hit the road. And I had a little goofy, but a lot of goofy problems, like a couple air issues, uh, a couple gauges that weren't working right. Um, and just just nothing to stop the trip, but enough to to worry you a little bit. And every day on that road trip, one of my tow family reached out to see if they could come help me. Uh, do you need me like uh Terry from Quality, Trevor from Bostick, Justin from uh from uh I'm having a brain fart today, Justin from Watkins Towing, uh, my buddy in Atlanta in Atlanta, Ben from Tracks, uh everybody, anybody that knew there was an issue with the truck almost daily called me to see if they could come rescue me. And then when I finally did have a breakdown, uh Griffin and Griffin, everybody came out to make sure that JB Toe was making it home. And and that's why I'm doing this because I was just blessed. Uh I had my guardian angel, which was my Toe family, riding on my shoulder, rooting for me, uh, calling me to see if everything was fine, what they could do to make sure I made it home. And so that was I I was just beside myself. I I was talking to my wife Melissa on the phone and just telling her all the great people that were reaching out to me to let me know that if I needed any help whatsoever, no matter how far away they were, they weren't gonna hesitate to come help JB Toe get home.
SPEAKER_04Man, I love it. I love it. Well, I tell you, I I feel the same way, Jason. I mean, I've been in publishing since I was 25. I'm 53 now. I've been in uh the machine tool market, material handling, over-the-road transportation, helicopters, electrical contracting. Um, and this market here, man, I've never seen a market that's so pulled together and it's so family focused. And you see that even like at the shows in Ohio, uh the Midwest Regional Show. It's just a huge family event. The uh, the uh Mid-Atlantic Tow Expo in North Carolina. You see the uh you know, you see the whole family there, the wife, the kids, everybody participating and enjoying it. And uh it's a place where you see if you need something, everybody's always there to give you a hand up uh and help you along. So uh hey, I'm with you on that, brother. I second it. So uh next thing I want to ask you is uh after completing this road trip, what's next for JB Toe? And how do you see these nationwide tours shaping the future of the towing industry?
SPEAKER_06Well, uh more road trips is what's next, obviously. Uh I'm planning one right now. I won't, I won't get I won't let the cat out of the bag yet. But uh I I want to continue to bring new products or products in general to people. And I want to basically have a traveling toe show. There's a lot of operators that can't make it to the shows. Uh they're just life takes over. Uh, and you just don't have the time to travel halfway across the country. So we're gonna bring the toe show to the people. We're gonna interact with them. Uh actually, I'm contemplating uh and trying to put something together here locally. Uh for some weird reason I've overlooked the only my only town that I are the town I live in. So I think here, right after we get back from Texas, I want to do a lockout challenge and open up our store to everybody here and as far as they want to come to come join in on the lockout challenge. Let's break some bread. Let's come see the showroom here in Tampa, come to the JB Toe Warehouse and let's do a lockout challenge and have some fun here. And and if I can't draw a crowd in my own town, then holy smokes, I don't know what to do. But we're gonna start continuing these road trips, man, uh all over the country. Now, I'm not uh uh big on driving in the snow, but after this winter, I'm gonna continue up through the the snowier states when there is no snow. I went up to New York this past winter and I couldn't even get out of the parking lot in a car. So I'm gonna say Jason shouldn't be driving his big truck through the snow. So after this winter, we're gonna continue up through the northern states and uh and come meet as many people as we absolutely can, bring as many cool products to the tow operators around the country as we can, and build this family as big as it can be and interact with everybody and show people what it's like to deal with somebody that actually cares about what they need for their company.
SPEAKER_04I love it, man. Fantastic. Well, that's that's what the community needs. That's what brings us closer together, and that's what puts a um, you know, that's what puts a face behind the product and behind the the logos they see in the magazine and so on and so on. You're putting the real person uh out there and you're certainly showing them that when it comes to their livelihood, when it comes to their safety, when it comes to their family, uh, that you're not just looking to sell product, you're looking to make sure that they're safe and they and they have a full understanding of how that product can work for them. And uh that's uh that speaks for service after the sale, man. It's fantastic. Love it. SPEAKER_06Uh, I want to say uh thank you for WAGs, uh Brian Wagaman, uh good friend and tow brother. He came along with this trip. Uh not
How To Reach JB Tow
SPEAKER_06too long after end of the trip, he found out that his brother had been missing. And for the love of the industry and the people, and as we call it Toe Family, he finished that trip all the way up to the Smyrna, uh Smyrna, Tennessee, where we had the event at Cook's Towing. And literally, as soon as we were done, his wife drove from Indiana, picked him up, and took him home so he could come be with his family and search for his brother. So, what I ask everybody is keep the Wagaman family and all them people out there, not just his family, there's so many people out there, uh, law enforcement, regular Joes, people that just specialize in finding people, are all out there helping the Wagaman family try to find Tyler. So pray for them. Uh, keep them in your thoughts, and uh and just and give give Wags a break. Uh people are just blowing his phone up and sending him messages. Uh just follow and watch, and he will update as everybody goes along. Uh I've had people reach out to me because they knew I was with him to try to give out information. And if you do reach out to me and you have some information, I will definitely get it to him. Uh, but there are so many other sources out there trying to help his family. So just pray for him and and and hope for Tyler's safe, safely come home. That's all we can do.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, definitely. Thank thanks so much for that, Jason. And guys, if anybody has any information, if you see him, uh you can you can call 1-844-H E Y WAGS for assistance. Um, or 765-913-6767. Um, but again, uh one one thing that will certainly help out, I'll always say, is uh keep him in your prayers. Pray for him, pray for his family, uh, and pray for uh resources for our law enforcement uh and emergency responders, detectives, and all that are out there looking and searching for uh for his brother currently. Uh so with that, as always, Jason, I want to end this as always do with a prayer. Uh so if you would bow your head. Dear Heavenly Father, we uh we thank you for our towing community. We thank you for the uh the families that are intertwined in a uh a root system of uh family values that that flows throughout our towing community. We thank you for every man and woman, our our operators, our dispatchers, our owners, uh our service providers, and we thank you for those wives and children that stand behind them, for those men that have women working here in the towing industry, for their husbands there that are that support them. We just ask, Father, that you uh you keep them safe while they're out there, bring them back home to their families safely, help them prosper uh for their hearts of service. And dear Heavenly Father, I thank you for every one of our vendors out here that are that are stepping into the market, that are putting innovative products out there, uh that not only help keep uh our Artow uh operators safe, but also uh help keep the community safe and educated. So again, we uh put a hedge of protection
Prayer, Thanks, And Stay Safe
SPEAKER_04around our emergency responsors, keep them safe, bring them back to their family, uh, and bless them for their efforts. And again, we ask all this in your precious name, Jesus. Amen. Amen.
