Can God use a difficult season to reveal your purpose?
When COVID brought the world to a standstill, sisters Kandy, Kassidy, and Kalli found themselves searching for purpose, peace, and direction.
What began as a difficult season of uncertainty became a defining hinge point in their lives—one that ultimately led them to form the Christian music group Hinge Point and dedicate their talents to sharing the love of Jesus Christ through music.
In this uplifting episode, the sisters share how faith and music shaped their childhood, the unexpected inspiration behind some of their most meaningful songs, and how God opened doors they never imagined possible.
From writing lyrics in the middle of the night to recording their first songs with a single microphone, their story is a powerful reminder that when we place our gifts in God's hands, He can magnify them far beyond what we thought possible.
Join us as we explore the faith, family, and divine guidance behind Hinge Point's journey—and discover how God can use ordinary people in extraordinary ways when they're willing to simply take the first step.

Scott BrandleyOn today's episode, we're going to hear how three sisters turned uncertainty during COVID into a contemporary Christian group where they share God's love with the world through music. Welcome to Latter Day Lights.
Meet Hinge Point And Their Family Team
Scott BrandleyWe're so glad you're here with us today, and we have a really special treat. We have the group Hinge Point, which includes Candy, Cassidy, and Kelly. So welcome to the show, guys.
SPEAKER_02Thank you for having us. We've been so excited for this.
Scott BrandleyYeah, this is this is gonna be a lot of fun. Um, I've watched some of your videos and I've shared some of your music with Darla and my family. And it's I have to say, it's really good. You guys are amazing. Very talented.
SPEAKER_03So much.
Scott BrandleyYeah. We're we're really excited to jump into your story. Um, but before we do that, why don't you guys tell us a little bit about yourselves?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, of course. So the three of us, we have been singing together for a long time. Um, we'll have to tell you guys how the band came together. So we were sisters, so that means that we've been singing together our whole lives. So we have kind of a fun meat story. We just met when we were born. Me and Cassidy are twins, so we we go way back. And then two years later, Kenny came along. And so we've just been singing together since we were teeny tiny. We started doing Christian music a little bit ago, and we just love music, all things music. Listening to music, performing, writing songs. We just love it. So that's us.
Scott BrandleyThat's awesome. And so, do you have any other siblings?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, we do. Yeah, we do. There's there's six kids in our family, so we have a fun bunch. One brother, and then five little sisters came. So he's a little bird.
Scott BrandleyAll right, and do any of them help with any of like the videography or any of them, any of the musical side?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, sure. Yeah, our brother loves videography. He's done a few of our videos, and so has our dad. A lot of our videos as well. It's fun, uh fun family project.
Scott BrandleyYeah, that's so cool. Well, awesome. Well, we're we're really excited to jump into for you guys to tell us how this all came about. So why don't we turn the time over to you and you can tell us where your story begins.
SPEAKER_02So
Childhood Faith And A Love Of Music
SPEAKER_02there were like two things that kind of define our childhood. So we grew up in a family where faith in Jesus was really an important aspect, and then the other thing was music, even from the time we were like probably three years old. Yeah, we would just write little songs together, make up little plays. We had this piano, it had these little instrumental songs that you could click and play, and we would make up songs to those, make up dances, make up whole productions, and grandma and grandpa would come see it, and we just always have had a heart for performing and done stuff like that throughout our whole lives together.
Scott BrandleyFun.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, and then so we continued doing that throughout our lives. We would do musicals and just try out for different things, um, sing in church, and then 2020 came. We were
COVID Fear Turns Into A New Mission
SPEAKER_02all teenagers in our in our teenage years, and our school got closed down, and we couldn't go to church anymore, and it was just a really crazy time. So there was a lot of feelings going on as all the world can relate. There was a lot of uncertainty and fear, and we didn't know what was gonna happen. There was a lot of loneliness too, not being able to see our friends, and then that really led to all of us kind of we had to kind of figure out what mattered and where we wanted to spend our time, what we wanted to focus on. So that was a really interesting shift that we all experienced, and I think a lot of a lot of you watching will relate that it kind of just changed everything that that crazy year 2020. I think that year led us to want to follow Jesus and be more all in for him than like anything else up to that point in our life. So it was definitely something that even though it was really hard, God used it in so many ways to help us. And it led us to make some really important choices that helped us to be more devoted to Jesus. Yeah, so in 2020 we officially started our band, and the name Hingepoint is something we actually get a lot of questions about, like where it came from. And so I want to share a little bit about that. So a hinge point is the point where things change and go a different direction than it's been going before. And so that kind of felt like um that really resonated with us during that COVID time when we were going one way and things totally stopped and we had to change directions. So that was a hinge point for us, and then it kind of has two meanings to us. We hope that our music about Jesus can help be a hinge point in our listeners' lives and help them choose to live for Jesus and to follow him. Yeah. I would say a cool part of that hinge point in our lives was definitely besides just singing Christian music and starting our music group, we started listening to Christian music all the time in that crazy 2020 era where there's a lot of those crazy feelings and uncertainty. We just changed our radio station to Christian music and listened to that all the time. And that gave all of us a lot of hope and a lot of joy during those crazy moments. And so I think that's part of what honestly inspires us to keep sticking with that Christian music is just how much joy and peace that brought us during those weird years. And shout out, we have these cousins, they introduced us to a station called Kayla Fradio. I wonder if you guys heard of that one.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, okay.
SPEAKER_02It is our favorite, and that really just brought us so much way. We would just go singing in the car, crank it up, and it was just like this moment of so much joy and peace and so much fun together.
Scott BrandleyYeah, that's funny. I mean, we kind of did that same thing. We we got into Christian rock and pop, and my daughter and my well, all my kids really got deep into it, and that got us into it. Um, so that's that's funny.
Darla BrandleyRight around that time, too. It's like maybe that's when we needed it the most. We needed that emphasis on Christ during that scary time, for sure.
Musical Influences And A Defining Promise
Scott BrandleySo, what do you what would you say like your influences are if you had to put out a couple of of those kind of groups or or that or certain types of music?
SPEAKER_02Oh, are you guys familiar with Cain, the band?
SPEAKER_03Uh-uh.
SPEAKER_02That sounds familiar. So they're a three-sibling group. It's two girls and their brother, but just having like three siblings that inspires us so much, and they do kind of country Christian music, yeah. Just kind of our jamps. With the with the tight harmonies, yeah, that's what inspires us a lot. Those those fun sibling harmonies, we're like, we gotta do those, these are fun.
Scott BrandleyYes, I I love those, especially like I could I could hear those in your music. So, like, if I had to like say who I thought your inspirations were from my perspective as an old person, I would say I'd be like Wilson Phillips, Dixie Chicks. I would say there's a little Toby Mac in there, and then for King and Country, with when you when you go to the ballads and the and the mix, you know, mixing your harmonies together, like I could see some of that in there.
Darla BrandleyUm we're older, so we have a lot more different uh anyway.
Scott BrandleyThat's that's kind of what I felt when I was listening to it. There's definitely some country vibe in there.
Darla BrandleyYes, we love country music, and I think that lends to Christianity too. I think country music and Christianity kind of you know sometimes run side by side. I mean, not always, but you know, and especially in the past it has, right? Yeah, oh yeah.
SPEAKER_02I think finding this kind of music all about Jesus and a little bit of country, like that was a fulfillment of some powerful promise that we heard about. So there's the For the Strength of Youth magazine that Richards does, and this was January 2021. So I just want to read something to you guys that I thought was so cool. We still kept the magazine because it was so impactful to us. So this part of it says, the Lord will expand your abilities and increase your joy. As you seek revelation, the Lord will guide you to know how to use your individual talents and personality to serve and live the gospel. He will stretch your imagination, creativity, and capacity in ways you never would have thought possible. As you offer your willing heart and mind to the Lord, you will discover more friends and increased opportunities to serve. Your sense of identity and purpose will be strengthened and you will find joy. We may sometimes feel content to settle and coast, but God has something else in store. Just as he had a great work for Moses, he has a great work for you. Be not wary, we have complete confidence in you. This just perfect because by the time this magazine came out, we had been just kicking off our group. And even in the first few months that we were starting our band, we saw so many of these promises being fulfilled as we tried to step into what we felt the great work God was calling us to as we tried to begin that process. All those promises just boom, boom, boom. Yes. What are some examples of somebody? Some of them were like number one that I think of is he gave us the capacity to write music. Like we had tried like pre-COVID, pre-starting our group to make music sometimes, and it was not good. Yeah, it was it was hard. We of course we weren't really doing it like about Jesus, so it didn't really have that like purpose behind it. And it was just like we did not have that gift or that skill, we don't have that capacity on our own. But like when we pray, we always like to start a songwriting session with prayer, and like he's blessed us with that with that capacity. Like, we could not do it before. Definitely God. Another one I saw big time was the it talked about uh God will give you friends, help you find friends. That happened for us 100%. All the connections that we made with music producers and video people, and just other seniors and other groups and other um families and people we gotta meet, girls we gotta meet at girls' camps. Um, it's just been amazing. And one thing that I think is super cool is I actually met my fiance through music. I'm I'm getting married in August, and I would not have met him if it was not through Hinge Point, because we we met with another group and we were collabing, and we made friends, uh us sisters made friends with this group, and they invited us to hang out, and that's how I met my fiance because they're um a mutual friend through music. It was crazy.
SPEAKER_03That's so cool.
Darla BrandleySo awesome! I love that. Congratulations, that should be fun. Thank you.
SPEAKER_02Another thing that we noticed from that article, um, a blessing, was increased capacity to talk to people and reach out. Like we're all pretty shy. So that was a big blessing to be able to make connections and even perform. That's something that was scary to us before, but it's so much fun for us now. And it's cool to see how God changed us to be able to do that. Yeah.
Scott BrandleyWell, you might have you might have been shy, but at the bottom of the thing that you sent me, you said we love doing concerts, firesides, girls' camps, private events, corporate events, and other work.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, now yeah, ask us to do that like six, seven years ago. I wouldn't have believed it.
SPEAKER_03No, thank you.
SPEAKER_02That's scary. Yeah, we're so grateful because since then, like talking about all those different things, those are all just doors and opportunities that God has opened up. That's a way that He's really worked in our life since we just were like, here we are, like, show us our purpose, show us what we can do.
Darla BrandleyYeah, I love that God does just open doors.
Scott BrandleyYes, amen. I've got a question. So, what when you came up with this idea, you go and talk to your parents, like what did they think about it?
SPEAKER_02They love the idea. They had seen us do our little performances, we talked about our little plays, and they'd watched us sing together our whole lives. And um, I know that they saw our potential and they knew that we could we could sing together and have a lot of fun doing it and spread a lot of light. And so they were totally on board. They honestly, our parents really helped inspire us too. We loved singing on our own, but um, they just saw that we could help use it to spread light. So they were honestly a big influence and a big a big help for us to figure out in the beginnings how to make it work and how to how to find gigs and how to I don't know, just how to do everything. They were our big help because we were so young, we were just little teenagers trying to figure it out, and so they were they were so helpful and so on board.
Darla BrandleyThat's so good.
Scott BrandleyI'd love
Starting From Scratch In Songwriting
Scott Brandleyto hear that the beginnings of the story. Like, how did you even start? Like, how did you come up with your first song? How did you like tell like walk us through the beginnings of this because I think it's really interesting.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I think at first we weren't really sure exactly how we wanted to do it and what kind of things we wanted to post and stuff like that, but kind of through trial and error, we figured we narrowed it down to doing Christian music and kind of came into that country um side of the music. Um starting out, we we went in our basement and had this little cheap microphone, and we sat down and tried recording the song all by ourselves, and it was a little rough, but we yeah, we kept working at it and somehow it all worked out.
Scott BrandleySo, what was the first song you guys came up with?
SPEAKER_02I think it was Give It Up. Isn't that right? Yeah, that's the first one that was way back. Uh-huh. This was probably like October 2020. Yeah. Yeah, it was fun because we I can't remember, have we written some of the lyrics? I think that we we had written some of the lyrics and then mom. We got with our friend Daniel, he's really musical and plays the piano really well, and it was really fun to do a little songwriting session with him and just work on um figuring out chords and how chords could go with the music. This was all kind of new to us since we hadn't been great at songwriting previously. So it was really, really awesome to have Daniel help us and have our friend just kind of show us the way of how you can actually put it together. So we worked with him and got it to music, and it was just cool to see it comes alive. Do you guys remember our first recording session? That was scary.
SPEAKER_03That was so scary.
SPEAKER_02Oh my gosh, yeah. We I remember we were in the car and we were all like just so nervous before walking in. Yeah, and then even when we got into the studio, we were just like stiff. I think we were like, Yeah, I thought it was a mockest. Oh, it was crazy.
Scott BrandleyThat's so funny. So, like, um, so you so you go to an actual recording studio. Is this like the first time ever in one?
Darla BrandleyYes.
Scott BrandleyOkay.
Darla BrandleyHow many songs did you have at that time? That you did you do them all? Did you make like an album or just record one song or just one song actually?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, just the one song. We just went in, it was a cover. Um, we went in and we had practiced so hard, and we just we sang it, and it was really scary, but it was fun, and it was cool to see what it's actually like inside a studio because you hear music all the time and it sounds so pretty, but you have no idea that what goes into it, especially when you have three voices, there's a lot you have to record it a lot of times and just make it work make it work and just practice hard and then do your best. It was cool to see that process unfold.
Darla BrandleyThat's awesome. So, what happened with that first song then? Did it did you put it, did you put it out on YouTube? I don't know. What did you do with it?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, so this song, so it was the song You Say, which is by Lauren Dable, a classic. I don't know if you guys heard that song.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, beautiful.
SPEAKER_02I think a lot of most people have heard it by this place and like but yeah, we we actually did a lot of work on this song. We did a couple different arrangements before we ended up choosing the one that was our favorite to release. So this was probably a couple years later that we finally actually shared it. Yeah, it took us a minute to release this one because we were so invested in making it the version, the style we wanted it. Yes. So yeah, you can find it to you say and it's fun. We we added some interesting chords to kind of spice it up, and it turned out really fun. I like it.
Scott BrandleySo that that brings up an interesting question. Because I mean, essentially, you guys are making this a lot of this music up. So you can come up with any type of variations on the song that you want, right? So how do you how do you come up with the one that you end up with? Like what is the process of that?
SPEAKER_02It's so fun. It's it's a really fun process. Usually, for a cover, when we find someone else's song and we really want to release our version of it, we'll pick the song and then we'll just talk about it a lot. At first, we weren't too familiar with chords, um, but once we kind of figured that out and got practice, it's so fun to just sit down at the piano and take the song with the original chords and then just play something totally different, sing that to our new chords, and then you can change the melody of the song, and then just adding harmonies totally instantly changing. Yeah, so it's really cool. You can really make a song anything, it's super fun.
Scott BrandleyHow often do you like how many variations do you typically try?
SPEAKER_02Um, yeah, it kind of depends on the song. Sometimes we'll the first one we just love it and we'll run with it. So yeah, it kind of just depends on the song, and then yeah, sometimes we'll make like 10 versions or more before we finally settle on something.
Scott BrandleyI love some of like some of the harmonies I listen to. Like, so one of the things that I really liked that you guys saying is with the harmonies is clarity. Yeah, so how did you how do you come up with like who's gonna go up or down, or how are you gonna combine the voices together? How does that all work?
SPEAKER_02Well, Cali here can go pretty low. And me and Cassie have kind of higher voices, so we'll kind of switch off with melody or a higher harmony and just find out where where it sits the best. Yeah, but it works out good between the three of us.
Scott BrandleyWe can figure out an arrangement that covers all the and as you as you're trying different things, are you constantly recording it so you can go back and like listen to listen to things that you've tried?
SPEAKER_02It's usually yes, but sometimes we'll forget to record it, and then we're like, oh no, we just have to think really hard about it. We just do. Yeah. I think most people who have ever read a song will relate. If you write anything and then you go eat a snack, or you go take a little break, you'll totally forget it if you didn't record it. It's this crazy, crazy thing where when the inspiration strikes, you gotta record it on your phone or in a mic as soon as you can, or it just fades.
Darla BrandleyI think that's with any creativity.
Scott BrandleySo you
The Stories Behind 3 AM
Scott Brandleyjust mentioned inspiration. Tell us some maybe some stories about some of your songs and the inspiration, those particular songs.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I have one. Um, so we recently released an album. It's the album's called He's Got Me. And in that album, there's a song called 3 AM. And I actually wrote most of that song. It was kind of a crazy story. I was asleep. And then I woke up at 3 a.m. and I couldn't sleep anymore, and I just could not fall asleep. And it was just one of those nights where you just have a lot on your mind and issues aren't asleep. I I know that a lot of us get that way sometimes. And so I just prayed and I felt God helped kind of comfort me and take away the heavy things that were on my mind and on my heart. And it was just this beautiful moment in the middle of the night when no one else was awake, the house was quiet, and it was just cool to recognize that God heard my prayers and helped me, even though it was the middle of the night. And so I pulled out a paper and I just started writing these words about how God's my friend, even at 3 a.m., even in the middle of the night, when I'm afraid, or when I even when I don't exactly know what to pray, he's still aware of me and listening and thinking about me. And so that's one example of inspiration, is just experiences. For me, the best inspiration for songs comes from experiences. Sometimes my own, or sometimes I'll hear about someone else's story, and boom, a song. A song just comes, all these lyrics just flow. So that's really been awesome to get to experience that flowing into my head and into my heart.
Darla BrandleyWell, sometimes in the middle of the night when it is quiet, that's when we can hear the Lord's voice the easiest. So, you know, I mean, that's the time is 3 a.m. to be talking to the Lord, okay? Not always, but you know, that can be the time that you are the most quiet and the most receptive to hearing his voice. For sure. I love that.
Scott BrandleyCandy, Cassidy, what about you guys?
SPEAKER_02Um, yeah, so one song that I wrote, um, so I got married two years ago, and I really wanted to write a song for my husband and surprise him at our wedding. And so that was kind of my inspiration for a song. Um, just about how growing up I'd always pray for the person I would marry and would always think about him. And it's kind of about God's faithfulness and going from thinking about him and praying for him to actually meeting him and falling in love and getting married. So that was that was my inspiration for one of my songs that that we released together a while back. I love that. And what comes to mind for me is a song that we wrote called Me and You. We have this friend, and she is one of the sweetest people in this whole planet. She is so special, and she just struggles with trusting that God has forgiven her, and she just feels kind of inadequate and unworthy, and like has a hard time accepting grief. So we wrote this song called Me and You, and it's inspired by her story, this sweet soul that just wants to believe that. And some of the lyrics talk about I went to the garden, it's from Jesus' perspective. I went to the garden, I paid for your sins. If I could go back, I would do it again. And we just want those lyrics to find anyone who just leads that message of that Christ's grace is there, he's already done everything to help us, and we can trust his grace and mercy to help us along the way. So that was fun inspiration from somebody that we care about. I feel like when we write for someone that's like a real story, everyone's got a real story of some kind, and that it's gonna reach each person in a unique way.
unknownYeah.
Scott BrandleyYeah.
Grace And Healing In Me And You
Scott BrandleyI actually listened to that song twice.
Darla BrandleyOkay.
Scott BrandleyI love it.
Darla BrandleyThat's the one you shared with us at dinner today.
Scott BrandleyYeah, that's the one I played for my family too. I loved the lyrics, how you'd say, let somebody tell you a story, and you'd you kind of tell that story, and and I loved, you know, what you know the lyrics that you just said. Um, if you if he could do it all over again, he would, right? Like you guys are just so talented, really. And it's so catchy.
SPEAKER_03It was amazing.
Scott BrandleyYeah, interesting. Great job.
SPEAKER_03Thank you. That means a lot.
Scott BrandleyUm, I also listened to a song called Living Water, which I thought was really good. Is there a story behind that one?
SPEAKER_02Yes, there is. Yeah. So we were meeting again with our friend Daniel. We we were gonna meet with him to work on a song, but the only problem is we had no ideas. We were clean out of ideas. And the session we were meeting with him, it was the next morning. So we were just writing, writing, writing. Um, it got really, really late. And then what time was it? Oh, probably like 12 or one. 12 or 1. The inspiration finally came. Super early in the morning, barely after midnight. This inspiration just flowed. We had prayed and we were um we were just together. We were actually with our parents. Like, mom and dad, what do we do? We don't know, we don't have a song. And all of a sudden, just this inspiration came on all of us, us and appearance, and we all just started throwing out these ideas of these kind of artsy um things about the a one-a wanderer in the desert, all these water things, my faith is dry. Renew myself, yeah. It just it just came honestly straight from having all these different pieces of this song, and we just kind of packed them all together, and then living water was born. We call it our 2 a.m. a 2 a.m. miracle because it just oh, middle of the night, God was like, Okay, you guys have tried so long, I'm just gonna help you out here.
Darla BrandleyI love that. That's awesome.
Scott BrandleySo you see, you get the lyrics, and then does Daniel help you kind of put that to music, or how how does the music come into play with the lyrics?
SPEAKER_02Usually we as we write lyrics, we kind of hear a melody in our heads. Like Daniel is amazing at finding like the chords that like fill the moon, but usually we'll get like words to a melody, and then he frames it around that. So we can we can see him what we have, and then this is the genius of the piano chords, the PS.
Scott BrandleyIt's good to have people like that in your corner for sure, right? Yeah, that helped they use their gifts to help you magnify your gifts and and kind of raise all ships together.
SPEAKER_02That's that's really cool. Yeah, and kind of a funny story about that song. Um, we filmed a music video for it a little bit later after we released it, and we filmed it at this some sand dunes. Kind of went with like the desert theme of the song, and we really, really wanted it to rain in the video. And so we we went up to our dad, and we're like, hey dad, we need your help. And he built this fancy machine out of random parts and pieces, and he made it rain. Yeah, it was like a pad that like went across and it had like it was a bowls, and it it was crazy. I don't know how he pulled it off. There was no water out there, but he made it rain in the middle, but then go watch the video.
SPEAKER_03That's awesome.
Scott BrandleyYeah, I actually did watch that video, and and I saw the rain effects in there. So that was pretty clever of your dad to do that.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, it's amazing.
Darla BrandleyIt's another person using their talents to magnify your talents, right? It's amazing. I love that.
Living Water And Music Video Magic
Scott BrandleyA dad using his MacGyver talents right there. So when when it comes to videos, because I've I saw that you do a lot of them, like how do you typically decide on what what the video is gonna be about? How do you typically shoot it? Like, what what goes into that?
SPEAKER_02I feel like some videos, like as we write this song, we have a vision, like the video is gonna be like this, and then sometimes we just have a bunch of different ideas. Like, this song could be told through so many different lenses, so we just kind of like feel it out, and I feel like you can tell when you've landed on the right thing, it just like feels exciting and like it just feels really special. And it's crazy too to see the inspiration, even behind the videos. Sometimes we'll be kind of crunched to film, and we'll just say, We're you we're filming something tonight, so everyone meet up in the evening, and then we'll just drive down some canyon or just somewhere random. And then the sunset will be like the prettiest we've ever seen, or something. Like, yeah, yeah. It's it's cool. Sometimes it's just so so spontaneous. Yes. But God puts us where he needs us, where he knows that it'll have the most impact with the beauty of nature, the beauty of the setting. Yes, and our mom is like an expert at finding really pretty places to go film. She helps us pick some really cool spots to film that.
Scott BrandleySo when you're when you're recording the video, are you actually singing, or do you lip sync, or how does that work?
SPEAKER_02The way it works, like of course we take the studio quality song and like replace all the audio, but to get like the best video, we we sing alongs, you can actually hear us singing with the track and then we'll replace it. And when you really sing well the record or the filming process is going on, you can actually get your and soul into it still. Yes. Because if you just mouth it, like it might look kind of cheesy, but when you're actually we actually sing it, it's the harmonies, and it really just brings the spirit into it.
Scott BrandleyI think it's your so has there ever been people around when you're doing this? Is that a little awkward?
SPEAKER_02One time we were at this place, I think it was Tunnel Springs Park. It's a place in North Salt Lake, and there's lots of runners there, and we were just off this little path by this fence, getting kind of a country look, and then this whole pack of like teenage boy runners come past us and we just keep going, and it's like that's what our most embarrassing. Oh dear.
Darla BrandleyThat would be a highlight for them, though, I'm sure.
Scott BrandleyAnd that's really how you met your fiance. I was just no, that wasn't the time, but so okay, so do you guys keep track of like how many songs you've written and made videos for? Because you have a lot of them. And you're still, I mean, this is you've been you're in this what four or five years now?
SPEAKER_02Coming up on six years, yeah. In October.
Scott BrandleyOkay. Do you keep track?
SPEAKER_02We're probably written 30. That's um with covers. We probably released 30 or 60. Maybe six hours? It could be more. That could be low. It could be high. I don't know. We're gonna do our research, girls.
Darla BrandleyYeah, that's good enough. That's good. You're just so good.
Scott BrandleyYou just keep coming. Like, why covers? What is the draw to doing covers versus your own content?
SPEAKER_02Well, sometimes we love to cover songs that like hit us in certain ways. I feel like most often if we choose a cover, it's because it was impactful to us and we want to share like remarkable wakes with a little spin on it. Yeah, it's cool too because when there's a song that we love, a lot of other people love it too. Um, especially for the more popular Christian songs. And so there's already a big group of people who relate to the song and who like the lyrics. So then when we release our own version, it really helps us to reach new people, new audiences that that will find that song in their feed or in somewhere in their YouTube that wouldn't maybe see it otherwise. It's a cool way to have a bigger reach with Christian music.
Scott BrandleyYeah. Yeah.
Covers, Reach, And Listener Reactions
Scott BrandleySo you I'm sure you get a lot of feedback and and from people and and fans. Like, do you have any experiences where you somebody came and talked to you and expressed their gratitude for what you guys are doing or how it helped their life?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it's really cool when that happens. I think the times that um I remember that happening is we used to like to sing at girls' camps a lot during the summer. And it's really special after we're done performing and sharing our testimonies through music. We'll have a lot of girls come up to us and say how they really needed to hear these messages about how much God loves them and things like that. And it's so cool that God can speak to these people through our music. It's a really special thing that I'm super grateful for.
Darla BrandleyYeah, that's a great environment for girls' camp. That's that's awesome because they're always usually very spiritual, and and they're that's the perfect point to to hear that. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. I was gonna say something that's been cool for me to see is that a lot of times people will feel the spirit when they hear singing and they won't know it's the spirit, and so they'll come up and they'll say, When you sing, I don't know what what happened, but I just felt I got goosebumps and I just felt so peaceful. And it's been cool to be able to say, Guess what? That's God speaking to you, that's the Holy Ghost, that's Jesus telling you he loves you. It's been a cool thing to be able to win out to others. That's awesome. Yes.
Scott BrandleyAll right, so looking back on this journey, like what are some of the maybe one thing you can eat to kind of share, something that's really stood out to you in your life or from this adventure so far?
SPEAKER_02I think what stands out to me is just kind of like that magazine I was talking to you guys about. Like, if you ask God to use you and say, Hey, what is my part in this work in these rough times? Like, what can I do to help the world come to Jesus? He's not gonna leave you empty-handed. Like, he will give you a mission and a purpose, and you will see really cool things unfold if you just surrender yourself to him and say, Hey, use me. What can I do? He will make use of you. Yeah, I think my favorite thing has been being able to share God's love through music. Um, it's really cool to be able to write songs and to sing songs and tell people how much God loves them and how much He's how much they're worth to Him and to help them feel that because Christian music and Songs about Jesus has helped me to feel that. And so it's cool to turn that around and help other people feel that way. Um, one thing that I thought was super cool um just from this whole experience is seeing the power of music and especially the power of God and music. I remember one summer we were practicing a talent for these gigs, and we were singing all sorts of songs about worth and our worth in the sight of God, and we were seeing them every day, just uh every week, just hours and hours of practice. And I remember after seeing, I just like I looked in the mirror and I just I saw myself how God sees me, and it was just cool to see that when you sing with your heart about the love of God, then something inside you um grabs onto that, and you really start believing it. And music is just so powerful that it can help change your heart and help you feel God's love for you. I love that. Yes.
Scott BrandleySo
Bigger Dreams And Interfaith Bridges
Scott Brandleywhere do you see yourself going from here?
SPEAKER_02Wherever God will take us. We just we just love I would love to do this for life. Like, I just want to see where however God wants to use us, wherever He wants to take us. I'm just down for the ride. Yeah, I think our dream would be to do some bigger concerts because the reach at a concert is just it's such a fun way to feel the spirit and just feel God's love. We love going to Christian concerts, especially whenever a Christian artist will come to Utah. We're like trying to save up and get tickets if we can. And it there's something special about the whole room of people worshiping and like singing these lyrics about Jesus. There's nothing like it.
Darla BrandleyYeah, that's a unique experience to be in a concert and when everybody is singing along because you know it's so loud and is it and you feel like this part of this group, and oh, the the the spirit can be so strong and just intense. It's it's a unique experience to do concerts, that's for sure.
Scott BrandleyBecause everybody's singing about Jesus in the whole place.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, it's powerful. You can feel it. Yeah.
Scott BrandleyUm, have you felt that this can bring different beliefs together? Have you seen that throughout your efforts?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I would say so. We've had we've had some cool opportunities to perform at some interfaith events um with just singers and musicians from all sorts of different faiths coming together to sing. And it was cool to be a part of that and to to hear other people's testimonies and their um some about Jesus and some totally other religions, but just to hear that everyone there there's so many different faiths, and everyone wants to try to be good and to to try to be a good person. And it was cool to be able to bring our music and our why we try to be good to the table. And and um yeah, it was just cool to see all those perspectives and to get to contribute to that.
Darla BrandleyThat is something we all have in common. Religion wants us to be better, right?
Scott BrandleyWell, and to be more like Christ and and live a Christ-like life. I that's why I like Christian music. It's funny because when I was younger, when I was your guys' age, that wasn't really a thing.
Darla BrandleyI mean, you know, and it's like, well, that's theirs, not ours.
Scott BrandleyLike there there was Christian music, but we didn't listen to it. And and over the years, that that door's kind of opened up, even especially like I think in the in the LDS community, where now it's welcomed, right? And we just add more good into the world through listening to it, and it's way better than what other you know, other music that's on the radio.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, oh yeah, yeah.
Scott BrandleySo that's awesome. You guys get to that's your world, right? You get to be part of that world and help influence and bring people to Christ through singing and through music. Like, what a fun thing to do.
SPEAKER_03Oh, yeah.
Scott BrandleyI'm kind of jealous. I wish I could sing.
SPEAKER_02It's so fun. There's nothing better than singing about Jesus and singing for Jesus, and better yet, getting to do with your best friends. Yeah, yeah, really fun.
Darla BrandleyI think it's amazing. That's so awesome.
Advice To Start And Involve God
Scott BrandleyYeah, so um I I guess before we wrap up, I have one more question. People that feel that they have a gift that they want to share, and it maybe it's music or you know something else, but in your case, we're talking about music. So let's say people have feel they have a musical gift they want to share with the world. What would be your advice to have have them get started?
SPEAKER_02Um, I would say the first thing is you just have to start. That first step is kind of the hardest. Um, and you have to realize it's not going to be perfect at first, and there's a lot to learn and figure out. But just starting getting the ball rolling gives God an opportunity to help you, and that's where that's where you can really improve and get better. And we've seen that as we've done this. We kind of just had to get started, and we've come a long way since then, and it's been cool to see God kind of tutor us and help us all along that way. So I would say just start and involve God in it because it's gonna go a lot more smooth when God's part of it. Oh, yeah. Yeah, so true.
Darla BrandleyAwesome, and in the right direction, too, right?
Scott BrandleyYeah, well, and then obviously keep going once you start, right? I love your story, just have that one mic in your basement and you're trying to figure it out, right? Yeah, so to go from that to like professional music studios, and and you know, like that's kind of fun making music videos, you know, just I I just love the whole thing. I love I love the whole story and the whole journey. So as we kind of wrap things up, um, we usually ask um if you guys have any advice that you'd like to share or any final thoughts or testimony you like to share with people. Um, so why don't we start with with Candy, Cassidy, and then Callie.
SPEAKER_02My advice and thoughts would just be never forget that God loves you and He knows you so intimately, so deeply. He He knows every wish and hope and dream of your heart. He knows what you can do and all that you can be with Him. So just turn your life over to Him and remember that He's your loving Father who can help you. You can do all things with Christ. So that's my idea. Yeah, my love what you said about we can do all things with Christ. I think we can, as humans, we try to, we kind of tend to doubt ourselves and our abilities, but God sees so much more in us, and um, it's really important to pay attention and listen to what God says rather than what the world says about us because God will speak the truth to us, and he loves, I want to say that he loves all of you so much and he will do anything to help you, and and when you invite him in, life becomes a lot better. I agree. Um, and I would just say my advice would be to just involve God in your life. Um, we all go through phases where sometimes we're so close to him, and sometimes we're a little more um distant from him because maybe we became a little laxed or we're just less thoughtful about including him in our lives. But the second you try to bring him back into your life, whether that's through music. Music is how I bring it back into my life a lot of the time, it's through thinking about him and listening to music about him. But whatever your way to include God in your life, the second you start doing it, he will come into your life so powerfully and just bless you and love you and let you feel of the spirit. And so, yeah, just do what you can to invite him in, and he is so willing and ready to come and just be with you.
Scott BrandleyAwesome.
Darla BrandleyThank you. I can just feel your spirit. This is awesome.
