You may experience a profound recognition of your true nature through meditation, self-inquiry, or even an unexpected moment in ordinary life.

And then... Someone triggers you, fear arises, money becomes stressful, or the body does something you don't like. Suddenly, you seem to be right back inside the experience of being a separate person.

In this episode of The Awareness Podcast, Jody Agard sits down with nondual spiritual teacher Helen Hamilton for an intimate and practical conversation about spiritual awakening, nonduality, self-inquiry, meditation, and what it actually means to live from the recognition of what you are.

Helen shares why awakening is not necessarily a single moment after which the human experience disappears. Instead, an initial glimpse or recognition can gradually deepen into a more stable, abiding way of living.

Together, Jody and Helen explore some of the questions spiritual seekers don't always talk about:

  • What is spiritual awakening, and what actually awakens?
  • Why can we recognize our true nature and still get triggered?
  • Why do old patterns of separation return after an awakening experience?
  • Is spiritual practice still necessary after awakening?
  • What is the relationship between self-inquiry, meditation, and abiding realization?
  • Is it actually safe to awaken? What happens to the self-image we’ve built for many years?
  • Will awakening change your relationships, ambitions, family life, or ability to function in the world?
  • Do thoughts and difficult emotions disappear after awakening?
  • What does nonduality look like in ordinary everyday life?
  • Can awakening help us respond differently to fear, conflict, and suffering in the world?

Helen also speaks candidly about her own fear that awakening might cause her to lose interest in her children, relationships, or everyday responsibilities. Instead, she found something very different: a greater capacity to love, to be present, and to participate fully in life.

This conversation brings awakening down from the mountaintop and into the reality of emails, grocery shopping, relationships, work, parenting, dishes, laundry, exhaustion, difficult emotions, and random Tuesday afternoons when life seems to be going sideways.

Because perhaps awakening isn't an escape from being human. Perhaps it allows us to participate in our humanity more fully.

Helen’s upcoming four-part live series with the Center for Awakening, Awakening to Truth: An Embodied Realization, begins October 5. Through meditation, contemplation, and practical exploration, Helen will guide participants deeper into recognizing their true nature, seeing through the patterns that pull us back into separation, and discovering what it means to actually live this recognition.

If you've experienced glimpses of awakening but wondered why you still get triggered, struggled with spiritual seeking, questioned whether you're "doing it right," or simply want to understand what living nonduality actually looks like in modern life, this conversation is for you.
