SPEAKER_00:Welcome back to the Stay Sharp Podcast. I'm your host, Tom O'Gill, Stay Sharp Personal Training. And as always, I'm joined by the co-host of the show, Carlos Aguilar of Ugly Guppy Productions. Carlos, how you
SPEAKER_01:been? I'm good, Tom. Um... It's been a couple of weeks since we've talked and I actually got some very interesting news today, man, that I'd like to share with you. Well, let me hear. Inquiring minds want to know. Oh, look who's talking. Who's the secret guy? Spill the tea. No, I just heard that today they announced that the Golden Globes have now added podcasts to their categories. So are you ready? Oh, so you're saying there's a chance we can win? There's a chance. That's exactly what I'm saying, Tom. Where do they hold
SPEAKER_00:those at?
SPEAKER_01:I have no idea. I just heard it on the radio today.
SPEAKER_00:Oh, that's awesome, man. Uh, Golly, there's so many different categories of podcasts. I don't know how you... I know, I know. I
SPEAKER_01:think they have like three top categories. I think they're based on the most listened to or something. So, you know, like that Mr. Beast and all that kind of stuff.
SPEAKER_00:Okay, yeah. Well, I mean, today they just elected an American Pope. You know, my mom's big with the church. She might pull some strings, you know. Miracles happen, man. So, you never know. other than that anything else going on any other big news
SPEAKER_01:we got you know all the regular stuff but we could dive into that man um Okay.
SPEAKER_00:But yeah,
SPEAKER_01:how about yourself? or you can send me a text at 281-704-4534 and
SPEAKER_00:yourself Tom Well, as the name implies, stay sharp, personal training. I'm a personal trainer right there in the spring client area. Work out of a private gym. It's just for clients and their trainers. We got all the big gym amenities without all the big gym crowd. You can come in. You won't feel intimidated. You won't worry about people looking at you. I don't have to worry about having enough equipment because, you know, it's rarely a crowd in there. You might have four or five people at the most, and that's including the trainer. I try to be there at a time that fits you best. I try to work with a program as far as, you know, you know, how we're going to pay or whatever comes like that, whatever budget you have, I'll try to work with you. We can always find a way to get it done. If you want to get personal training, I want to get you, find a program that works best for you. Just give me a call. Text me at 281-799-2339. I'd be happy to work with you. And like I said, if you're willing, I'll find a way. So just text me and we'll get to work. Carlos, that other stuff that you said you had going on, what is that?
SPEAKER_01:I know. So today I did a luncheon for the SBA, the Small Business Association, and it was the Small Business Awards and that kind of stuff. But the keynote speaker there was one of the organizations that bring in the World Cup to Houston. Oh, okay. It's coming next year. I don't know if you're aware of that or not. Next year, yeah. So this World Cup is... It's very different. It's going to be in all of North America. So they're going to have three places in Mexico and I think 13 or something in the United States and like three places in Canada. Right. And they were saying how the Super Bowl, this last Super Bowl was the most watched Super Bowl with 125 million viewers and that they expect each one of these games in the World Cup to have 190 million viewers. And Houston is getting seven games, which is actually the third most of all the places. So imagine having seven Super Bowls in a month in the city of Houston. So it's going to be something. I'm going
SPEAKER_00:to call on sick that day. Yeah, it's going to be a lot of
SPEAKER_01:days. Yeah, it's going to be a lot. Traffic's going to be crazy. Everything's going to be crazy. But before you go on, so we're the third most? Third most. I don't know who the other two were. He didn't say. He didn't say. But it's going to Los Angeles. It's going to Seattle. It's going to Dallas. It's going to Kansas City. It's going to New York. It's going to Boston. So it's going to be in a bunch of places at the same time. But we had the third most games of all of them. So I don't know. Maybe Mexico City might have quite a few or New York. I don't know. He didn't specify. But it's supposed to pump$1.5 billion into the Houston economy. So we'll see what it does. We'll see how it is. It might be kind of nuts there you know it's like 30 days of of this kind of stuff so yeah it was a really interesting uh i didn't they were spouting out a bunch of facts about it that i had no idea it was it was that i mean i knew the
SPEAKER_00:world it's almost incomprehensible to be that it
SPEAKER_01:really is it really is it dwarfs the like oh and this is going to be the biggest sporting event ever so so you know it's going to be it's going to trump is going to you know the last one which was the four years ago or whatever. So it was really interesting. I signed up for a couple of, you can be on a pre-list to try to become a vendor and all that kind of stuff.
SPEAKER_00:Oh, that's what I was going to ask. Are you doing anything yourself? It's way
SPEAKER_01:ahead. It's way ahead. They haven't gotten there yet, but I have already because there's a program that's called Buy Houston, Buy Houston. It's B-U-Y, Houston.com. BYU Houston, and they're part of the ones that are bringing it, and they have their big list of minority and small businesses that they provide to these businesses. to these companies you know now whether we get it or not that's further down the road but I'm doing all the prerequisite steps to be on the list to do all that kind of stuff and well that's awesome yeah it was really interesting and just the fact that this guy was just spewing out was really incredible you know I mean the scope of this thing is you know he may like it may not like it it's not that much of a you know for people our age in Houston you know I don't know that it carries the weight that it does around the rest of the Yeah, well, I'll
SPEAKER_00:tell you what, I'm not a big soccer fan, but the World Cup is exciting. Same thing with that, with the Stanley Cup. Those aren't sports that I pay attention to. I won't know any of the athletes, but I think it's just the atmosphere and the global atmosphere. impact of it and it's country it's like the olympics you know there's sports that we watch in the olympics that you wouldn't watch them any other time of the of the you know of those four years but when it's the olympics all of a sudden you care who's going to win the speed skating or the you know whatever it is you know so that's the same way with the soccer i mean it's really really uh exciting you know watching that tournament it's like i can understand why it's such a gigantic global deal and like you said we get excited about a super bowl one game you're talking about seven of them just here in Houston. And man, that's wild just to even think about that.
SPEAKER_01:Seven of them that I have almost at least one and a half to two times as many viewers as the Super Bowl. You know what I mean? So like seven Super Bowls in a month in the city of Houston. It's going to be something. And
SPEAKER_00:just one thing I'll never forget. I watched, this was probably about 15 years ago, the Yankees were playing here against the Astros. And they were talking about there was going to be a big game like the next day, a soccer game, what they call them friendlies, you know, where these teams kind of have like an exhibition. And I guess it was like one of the most popular teams and they had all the great players in it. And the Yankees at that time were making a lot of noise, a lot of news because of how gigantic their payroll had become. It was huge. It was like setting records. It was dwarfing everybody else's payrolls for every other Major League Baseball team. And the guy, the sports reporter back then pointed out there was like five of these soccer players on the same team. And they were standing on the sideline of their soccer game just like observing something. And he said, we talk about the Yankees and their payroll. He said, those five soccer players outnumbered. make more than the entire Yankee payroll. Five guys compared to a whole team from the Yankees. That really impacted me of how much soccer makes and how much these players are getting paid for five guys to out-earn the entire Yankee baseball team at that time. That was unheard of, and it really, holy cow, it made me realize just what a big thing it is globally.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah, they were talking about the last one was... I don't remember what town. It was one of the Middle East places. Yeah, it was, yeah. and that they built all the stadiums to do that. So these are going to existing stadiums, but they're having to retrofit them. They said they have to have grass that they have to bring in and that stadium's not equipped for grass. And it's gotta be grass like pristine, almost like the Augusta National, the Masters kind of grass. And then afterwards they got to throw it out, you know, because it doesn't work. And it was just pretty incredible, all the other stuff. So I had a really good, interesting day today.
SPEAKER_00:That's awesome. And any other news going on in
SPEAKER_01:your world over there? Oh, man, you know, we've actually had some traction on some things. We got awarded something from Cypher School District. It's kind of awarding a bid, but not really. But by getting that, we're like on their list and stuff. So we started reaching out to all the schools today. And some of the stuff we've been laying on groundwork for like the last... two years or something, or even since COVID, it's finally kind of starting to come out. That's that, that by Houston, by Houston, and that the, the bids we've been putting in, we got calls from the city today from HISD and from the city of Houston and some other things, you know, nothing is happening yet other than back and forth talking, but back and forth is, is head and shoulders above where I was before, you know what I mean? And it's been a, it's been a long, long, long, process of trying to become a vendor with HISD and trying to get in with the city and all these certifications and all these things and all these classes, you know? And what it is is like these years I've been doing these things, It's finally paying off now. And you couldn't see that while it was going through. It was like, man, I wasted all this time. I'm doing all these things. Nothing's happening. Because I remember you talking about that a long time ago. It's been years. It's been years. I've been trying to get H.I. Steve Anderson before COVID, man. And it was just nobody would answer. And they do a weird deal where you have to bid on something even if you don't want it. But when you bid on it is when they start to vet you. But you can't just submit stuff to get vetted. You have to do bid on a bid, which they hardly put them out. For one, they do them like once a year or something. And even then, they have to randomly select you and then vet you, which today was part of that. And I was like, they needed me to have commercial auto insurance, even though I don't drive for work and do that kind of stuff. But this time, I went and bought it. I went and got it. I've been kind of doing all that kind of stuff today. But I feel like... I'm right at that horizon, man. I'm right there. Fingers crossed. Because once I got that, I already got people waiting to buy from me. They were already my customers. They got... like the screws put to them. So where they had to go only with approved vendors. So they were like, man, if you can get approved, we'll send you everything, you know? Yeah, I remember you telling me that. So, you know, cross your fingers for next school year, you know? Plus I'm already approved now on the Cypher, which I've been approved with them before. They don't make it that crazy. It's a couple of forums, a couple of background forums and this and that. But I'd never been awarded this kind of, it's like I was awarded a bid for, but doesn't come with any specific orders or anything. It's kind of bizarre. But I got a letter today from them that said I'd been awarded and had like an RFP number and all this kind of stuff. And then when I kind of further reached out to them, they said, no, the campuses will order individually, you know, but you're on the list. They cannot see. And you can reach out to them. So that's what we did today.
SPEAKER_00:That's fantastic. You know, that's almost really like, you know, they talk about, you know, you plant a seed and you can't see it growing because it's underground. Right. And you were doing that, you know, you're cultivating it, watering it, and now finally, you know, it's got that little sprout starting to perk up through the ground. And you doubt it, you know? That's exciting. Yeah, you doubt
SPEAKER_01:it. And then I guess it's going to pertain to what we talk about here, you know what I mean? The trust the process, you know? That's exactly what it is. That's exactly
SPEAKER_00:what it is. Like I said, you know, you kind of play their game and all the hoop jumping. I imagine, just like you thought, you know, this ain't going anywhere. You know, I'm wasting my time, but it was. It was working, you know? underground you couldn't see it and now finally yeah it's bursting through that's good and uh this kind of stuff like that going on with me also you know i've been working on something really trying to prep for something uh it looks like it's going to happen of course you know me i can't say anything because i don't want to jinx it but i am like super excited and like i was told it is going to happen and one of the cool things is once it's officially official uh I think we can have somebody come on as a guest and we can really talk about it and talk about what that means for the future. And hopefully, like you, it's going to help me. grow that, you know, it helped me get me more clients. And I'm super excited about it. And believe me, I would love to be talking about it right now and letting everybody know. But you know me, I'm one of those also superstitious. I don't go spouting off and then jinxing it. And then I look like a dummy sitting here.
SPEAKER_01:Well, can you at least like what kind of time frame are we talking when you will know?
SPEAKER_00:Well, probably within a month for sure. Yeah. Their time frame, he told me was by the end of this month. The end of May is what I was told. But the things that they're doing, that they're dealing with is people kind of like back out on them at the last second for the thing they're trying to get done. So once everything is, you know, settled, it tends, you know. Carved in stone. Man, believe me, I can't wait to get on here and talk about it because it's something that I had to work really, really hard to try to get ready for. And I'm just excited. Like I said, it's going to make, I think, a really cool episode for them to come on and we talk about it and discuss it and their plans, how it could affect me and help me in my plans because it was all... I mean, you want to get it done, but you know how it could have a positive effect on you and my personal future of the things that I'm trying to get done. So it's really, really cool. And I'll tell you another cool thing. You know, we tried to get together these past couple of days, but. I've been really, really busy, getting home really late. I've been having clients really late, which doesn't bother me because they're new clients. It's good. It's good to be busy like that. You have to remind yourself, this is what I wished for. There were times I wished, man, I'm so busy that I wouldn't be getting home late, so I don't complain about it. You have to stop and remind yourself. Months ago, I was wishing... I would be in this situation. So everything's going well. And it's funny because where I work out, there's a girl that works there and she's like a photographer. And she just said, hey, you mind if I snap some pics of you while you're working out? I said, yeah, go ahead, knock yourself out. So I'm thinking they're just gonna be just some regular looking pictures. They came out so awesome and I posted them like in the places that I advertise. And man, dude, like, people saw and those pictures really had an effect i mean people have been calling me every day uh i don't know if she had the magic touch or what so they
SPEAKER_01:look good they look good they were really good looking you know they look like real action photos right the limp biscuit hat
SPEAKER_00:yeah i've seen so uh things are going awesome man i'm really excited and like i said i can't wait to to you know share the news of what supposedly I was told was going to happen. So yeah, man, things are really looking up and I'm getting excited because it's kind of like you said, I'm starting to see that little sprouting through the ground and just having that faith in it being
SPEAKER_01:realized. Coming from a soft... March and April. This was really welcome news today for me. The guy really hyped me up with the World Cup stuff. Okay, so it was a SBA Small Business Awards luncheon and I knew like other people from the SBA from the classes I took, but then also the U of H people, class people were there too. So I knew them, like those instructors, because I think they got an award, the U of H, the program that I'm in. And it was weird because now I'm starting to know a lot. Oh, I had to pitch. So I'm graduating Monday from the U of H class. We're finished. Monday's just a graduation or whatever. So my last class, I had to do a pitch to a bank. They bring in guests, and this guy was like a bank president or something for Frost Bank. Well, he was there. And he was like, hey, I couldn't tell you this the other day, but hey, I'm doing these programs and this and that. Anyway, I knew him. 15, 20 people there, you know, they knew me. And one of them was the by Houston, by Houston for the soccer thing. And I had met her at the Hispanic luncheon. So I'm starting to like know people and be a regular and, and you're in the loop and make the connection. Exactly. Exactly. Make the connections. And it's, you know, now it's a, it's already, we know each other. And then, I don't know, today was a real positive, uh, I felt real good after the luncheon today. And kind of like you say, all the groundwork that I've been laying down for the last two or three years, it's kind of now hasn't paid off yet. I haven't got, you know, but I feel like I'm right on the edge there, you know, about to break through. And that was going to be my next thing because, you know, I have a couple of big clients and when they cool off, it cools me off quite a bit. But I'm trying to get these contracts with the city or with the, I got some, you know, some bids in with the city, some bids in with the Houston Public Library. I'm happy for you, man. Any cause from the video ad that you put at the testosterone? I haven't put, okay. That's a slow process, that
SPEAKER_00:deal. Well, we're in the process. As a matter of fact, today, I told them the final rendition of what I wanted to do. Because it's not like you text back and forth and you're working on it daily. It's, okay, what kind of changes do you want? So kind of blindly, I would tell them, well, try this and this and that. And you email it back to them. And then in about two or three days, their team gets back to you and says, okay, how's this? Okay, well, I don't really like that picture. And plus too, one of my clients, she was supposed to take a really good picture where that wasn't a selfie looking picture, but she's been having some stuff going on. So I was kind of like waiting to get that picture from her. So this morning, as a matter of fact, I decided when they asked me, is there anything else you want to change? And I told them, look, you know what? I sent them one of the pictures that that girl had taken. Because that's a great picture. And I said, let's go with this. Because I can go back and change it every day if I want to. It's unlimited. But I got to get the first one out there, right? So I told them. They had everything else right. The font of the picture, the way they had it set up, the way they had it organized. We're just waiting on that picture. So it just so happened. You mentioned I had the red hat on. One of the things is I had them originally change the coloring on it, the advertising, from red to blue. And I like the blue, but then I said, you know what? The last email I sent them, I said, change the coloring back to red. Use this picture because I got this red hat on. And then that's the one we're going to go with. And once I get another picture that I like, we can switch it. Because like I said, I could change it every day if I wanted to. And I made sure. I said, hey, this isn't like– This is the picture forever, right? And he said, no, you can change it as much as you want. You go, we'll change it. It's going to be like two days before we get it and let you approve it. So I'm excited to see. It's probably not going to be tomorrow because, like I said, I just told him this is the final. edition that I want. So probably in two days, he'll send it back to me and then I just tell him, yeah, thumbs up, let's go with it and then it'll be out there. So that's another reason that I'm really excited because if just, you know, a couple of these pictures and putting them out there, I advertise on, I don't know, you ever heard of Thumbtack and all that?
SPEAKER_01:Yeah.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah, those small businesses. Well,
SPEAKER_01:you said that you were getting New clients. That's why I was wondering where they're coming from. Yeah. Thumbtack. Thumbtack. I think a lot of trainers are on thumbtack, if I'm not mistaken. I think so. Yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah. A lot of them do I get from referrals, but like since I started putting those newer, good looking pictures on there, all of a sudden, you know, my, I keep texts, emails every day. And so I'm thinking of just that couple of pictures. Well, the, the ad that they made, it looks really nice, you know, it looks real professional. So getting that out there and, you know, obviously I'm gonna have a copy of it. So I plan to like make like business card looking, you know, copies of it so I can put them out there and put them in different businesses, put them at, you know, Dr. Merriam's office, you know, I've already got my business cards, but this is gonna look so much better. So, yeah, like I said, if one little picture was able to affect me that much, imagine what getting these out there that look really, really good. So, yeah, I'm a lot like in the position you're at. I feel like I'm right there. on the edge and it's exciting. It's an exciting time, I guess, for both of us. So that's really cool.
SPEAKER_01:And you know, you've been getting held up and getting late and I've been shutting it down earlier because I'm trying to get back in the swing. So I've had all the mornings this week, I've done something before work, but I try to keep the same hours. I try to keep the regular hours, you know, because... once I get in that routine, then I don't need an alarm or anything. I just get up at that time and doing that. So I try not to, not to, you know, deviate too much from it, you know, just like kind of maintain a, I get sleepy pretty early. So when you're like, ah, man, it's 10 o'clock, I'm going to be home. And I say, man, man, we'll just do it another
SPEAKER_00:day. I knew it was late. I knew it was already late. So yeah. That's why I just let you know when I was leaving there, I said, man, I know. I could have, I mean,
SPEAKER_01:I was still up, I was still around and stuff, but I didn't want to get, you know, sometimes these hypers are, up, you know?
SPEAKER_00:Yeah, there's times that I go try to get to sleep afterwards, and I'm all, you know, worked up from talking and yelling or whatever, and I can't go to bed. So you're talking about trying to get on your regular routine. Does that include workouts, or how's that going? Yeah, that's what I mean. I've been getting
SPEAKER_01:up before work, and I've been working out, and my diet's been really good, and I've been getting to work back again at 7.45 in the morning, as opposed to 8.15 or 8.30, you know what I mean? It's all been like that all week. It's been really good but it's I'm barely getting back started again I did have a little bit of a knee and a hip thing but I'm on the mend so my work hasn't been light so it's mostly just activity in
SPEAKER_00:the morning. Well, it's ironic. I know somebody that can help you. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01:I'm working on it. I'm working on it. But yeah, so they're not world-beater workouts, but they are something just to get the metabolism going and to get my routine as far as my hours and all that. So I'm feeling pretty good. So I think Monday's going to go back to a regular all-out kind of workout. Okay. And diet, that's going well too? Diet's going well. That's great. It's going very well. Yeah. So all the stuff's in place. It's recently started. So we'll We'll revisit down the line, but I'm pretty, pretty content with it.
SPEAKER_00:Well, cool, man. So kind of like what the, you know, it's funny how all this plays into kind of the stuff I wanted to talk about today, because last week we brought up about back to the original, you know, origins of everything for me, especially, you know, with the unsung wear and, you know, the shirts that we were printing. And one of the things I was thinking about, because as I tell people about, the plans that I have now and what I'm trying to work for, you know, a lot of times you get, they can't see it. Right. And that really takes me back to when I used to do the shirts. Cause at one point you and your brother, you know, showed me how to use these programs, how to do stuff where I could basically sit down and start designing them on my own. And you remember, I used to send you like these black and white copies. And, uh, I would tell you, well, the black is actually going to be a red ink on a so-and-so colored shirt, you know, and have to explain everything out to you. And one of the things, because that's how I would pass the time, you know, once telemetry moved to another location, our side job. So, you know, you're up all night. I would just sit there, you know, working on my computer and trying to come up with stuff, you know, try this way, try that way, just pushing buttons and trying to come up with things. And I would get really, really excited about some designs that I would do. And as I would do these designs, you know, I could see, and I think, I don't know if you would call it a talent or whatever. I could see the finished product in my brain. Right. But what you would see on the screen, Without knowing what that vision was, it wouldn't make any sense to you. And that's one thing that I didn't realize and that I didn't appreciate was that I would show people these designs. And this is where I was messing up. I was showing them these designs and it wasn't making any sense. They couldn't see. And it's not their fault. It's not like they were dumb or they had no imagination. It's just I had a vision in my brain that I can see it clearly, clear as day. But they, when they would look at it, they'd say, no, no, you need to try it like this and whatever. I'm like, well, you know, these are the kind of people I'm trying to appeal to, you know, maybe I should do it like they're saying. So I would change what I was doing. And then I would never end up liking, you know, as it, as the product started coming together, not liking it because I finally had to come to the realization. I can't, I've got to quit sharing this vision with these people because they're not seeing the end product. It's because it's my vision. You know, I've got to work for my vision. I've got to keep working at it because I can see it as clear as day. And then I know once I get that finished product, once I see these black and white designs on in the color that I want on the color shirt that I want, it's all going to come together. And like a lot of like what you were talking about earlier, I had to learn how to trust that process and quit letting other people. They're just trying to help. It's not like they were trying to be negative at one time. Like they were trying to mess me up or something like that. They just could not. see what i was seeing and once i learned that once i realized it quit showing people and quit telling people these plans you have and how it's going to come together because you know they're just going to get you frustrated because they can't see it and it is frustrating because you're like look you're like it's like you're pointing to something out on the road like can't you see it right there and and they can't you know that that's just the way it is and uh when i finally let go of that and just trusted myself, trusted my instincts, I was coming up with some pretty cool stuff. And one of the things that I learned in doing that is what I'm also now being able to use, you know, when people come into the gym, I see them walk in and I can see them. I don't know how, like I said, I don't know if it's a talent. I don't know what it is, their physique, their body type, you know, the way they carry themselves. I can see that. The finished product, like if I could get this person into the perfect shape that I see for them, golly, you know, they could do all this. And I'd always ask them, and that's one of the first questions I'll ask somebody, if there's somebody you could look like, if there's a physique you want to emulate, who would it be? Sometimes we match, you know. Sometimes they tell me a physique or a body type that I know, look, they're just not blessed with that structure. You can't tell me you want to look like Kim Kardashian, but yet you're a stick figure. You're just straight up and down. You don't have that type of physique. That's one of the things I have to try to move them away from. And one of the things that's been happening lately, and I'm so proud of this client, she came in probably about three years ago, maybe four. It's been a while. And she came in with another one of my clients. She was a friend. And the client told me, hey, I've got this friend. She wants to come work out, but she wants to work out with me at the same time. So just get used to things. I said, yeah, whatever, you know, no big deal, whatever, you know, it doesn't matter to me. Just bring her. So they come, the other girl comes walking in and I see her and I'm like, oh my God, you know, like my jaw jumped out of the ground. Like this girl is gorgeous. You know, she's just a little heavy, you know, but she's got the type of physique that she wears it well. You know, she never looks way out of shape. She's just a little bit heavier, but She just had like this physique and I was just looking at her like in my brain, you know, all the gears start turning like, man, if we could get her in good shape, you know, like really get her starting to lean her up, you know, put all the curves in place where they're supposed to be. Man, this girl is like a diamond in the rough to me. Like I'm thinking this girl has the best natural physique of anybody, you know, that I've worked with. We can just get her there and she would work out and you could start seeing it happening and then she would stop. It's just a lot of inconsistency just because of life. Things happen. You can't dedicate that time. But not in a mad kind of way. I would get frustrated because I want to see this finished product. I'm like, man, I want to see her at her absolute best. And this would go on for years, just start, stop, start, stop. But about the past couple of months now, She finally came back, you know, because she'd always tell me, she'd always send me texts. And I always send texts out to my clients that haven't seen, like, how are you doing? I'm just checking in. You know, I'm not trying to harass you to come back. I just, I legitimately care. How are you doing? You know, what, is there anything I can do for you? Just let me know. And I sent her that text and she would always tell me, hey, you know, I really want to go back to seeing you. I just got to get that motivation back. I said, you know, like, whenever you're ready, I'm here and I'm going to help you. And she finally started coming back and she started getting consistent. And I'm telling you, She's also blessed. This is one of her problems. It's not going to sound like a problem. She's also blessed with the kind of genetics. She can come for a week and it's like noticeable changes in her physique. She's what we call a hyper responder, you know, just responds quickly. And that was work against her because she's like, oh, okay. You know, I'm good again, you know, and then just stop, you know. But like I said, these past couple of months, she's been hitting it hard. And it's just like, oh, my God, all that. Like when I would see when I was trying to design a shirt and I knew what it was look like, I wanted it to look like. And when you'd send it to me in the box and I'd pull it out and I would see, man, this is exactly what I could see. Now she's doing that same thing. Like finally, you know, we chipped away, chipped away. And now all of a sudden that diamond starting to emerge. I'm like, man, I can't be more proud of her and happy for her. because she's starting to get where it's not turning into, I gotta go work out in the morning. It's like what we've talked about before, it's becoming her lifestyle now. Man, it's just a really cool feeling to see her do that. It's the same kind of feeling, like I said, when we would pull out that shirt and it was exactly what I wanted and all that worrying about, is it all gonna come together right? And it would come out right. For me, that's a fulfilling feeling. And people, they kind of think I'm weird or kind of crazy when I say, you know, I've delivered babies. I've, you know, worked people in cardiac arrest, brought them back from the dead. I never got fulfilled. I never had like this, you know, man, this is what I was meant to do, but making that shirt, you know, when I would make a shirt and see somebody wearing it, I would get that fulfillment. When I see, you know, people like that client or, you know, all of my clients as they make progress and they're happy and they're feeling good about themselves and you can see their physique changing, that gives me fulfillment. And, uh, It's awesome, man.
SPEAKER_01:You know, I can't relate with that because I've also delivered babies and worked cardiac arrest. I didn't feel that either, what I do with my... Especially when I do a difficult print and it comes out really well, you know? I think... Part of it is we're kind of trained or conditioned to be kind of robots out there, you know what I mean? Yeah, that is true too. Where you don't get too high, you don't get too low, you know, because when they don't make it, you don't go down in the dumps. Yeah, you can't get emotionally involved. Yeah. So that's part of it. But even outside of that, it wasn't. fun like this is you know it wasn't you know uh there's some adrenaline but i wouldn't call it exciting you know i just this yeah is i do feel which i i absolutely get what you're saying you know um and then what you're saying is it's it's the eye man it's the eye you developed an eye for physique for bone structure for body types and you can see the end product and uh Like, I can't go anywhere and see a sign or a shirt or anything because, okay, I like that lettering, that spacing is bad, that this is bad, that contrast is bad, that contrast is not enough or it's too much and all that kind of stuff. Every single thing I see, you know, that poster right there behind you on the wall, you know, that those words have a black outline to separate them from the image, you know, just subtle, but I see it, you know. Yeah,
SPEAKER_00:yeah, same thing, yeah.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah. So anyway, yeah, that's it. You just develop an eye and you keep developing. Now you see things through that lens all the time. You can't turn it off, right? You know, even on strangers walking down the street or whatever. Yeah, I know. I'm aware. Yeah,
SPEAKER_00:that's cool. You know, I have a new girl. She's coming Saturday. to meet me for the first time to work with me and I asked her, just like I ask everybody, you know, give me a physique, give me somebody that you, you know, in your wildest wish, if you could just rub that Aladdin's lamp, you know, and make a wish, who would you want to look like? And she told me somebody and I was looking at her and yeah, the person is a fitness person that I was looking at. She looked pretty good. I mean, yeah, she had a pretty good physique, but as I looked at that girl, came to visit me. Because she came to visit me, but Saturday she definitely started working out. I met her in person.
SPEAKER_01:You've seen
SPEAKER_00:her. As I looked at her physique, and I'm thinking, you could look... way better. You have a much better natural physique. Everything's there. You've got all the basic tools that you could have a way better physique than this girl that you showed me. Saturday, I'm going to let her know. I'll say, look, you need to pick somebody else. We need to aim higher. Not to put down the other girl, but you have that type of potential. I'm really excited to work with this girl too because I can see this girl. She's got She's got all the things, all everything, you know, the necessary things there. It's like a, you know, sculptor basically. Yeah. Yeah. If he knows what he wants to sculpt, there's certain pieces of rock or whatever that they just not going to fit what he's looking for. Yeah. This one, you know, I can see it. She's got all the, everything's there. We just got to chip away the stuff that we don't need it, man. That final product to me will look much better than the, the goal, the girl that she picked and, uh, I'm kind of excited to see what her reaction is because she'll probably think I'm just blowing smoke up or just to try to get on her good side. But no, I'm serious because as I was looking at her, you kind of get this awkward feeling as they see that you're looking at them. You're really checking them out. You're looking at everything. You're looking at their butt, their legs, their chest, their shoulders. And you could tell that she's like, know he's like really looking at me and i am but i'm not checking her out i'm just seeing you know what's there what are we assessing yeah yeah and uh yeah and as i'm looking i'm getting excited thinking man this girl you know we can do something like we can really you know you know the end product can really be impressive so i'm excited to get to start working with her saturday so like i said everything's really uh moving in such a positive direction uh it's exciting
SPEAKER_01:Yeah, yeah. So it's like you said, you know, and it goes right back to what I was saying. All that groundwork I was laying, I couldn't see it, and they can't see it, you know, the way you see it, you know, for the end. And a lot of it, too, you know, I've had mentors from those classes, and I actually have what's called a SCORE mentor. They're like retired volunteers that mentor you, you know. And that was part of this last class, but that's what they can see. further than you can see just because of the experience or whatever, just the same, like you're with those people. So yeah, that's really cool. That's
SPEAKER_00:exciting. You know, a lot of it, you know, um, it's just because like my experience, you know, watching all these YouTube videos, knowing what these trainers are looking for, knowing what these judges, you know, a lot of judges come on there and, uh, it's always the same judges that they go around the country judging these shows. So they have a set way of, of what they want to see in certain people and hearing them saying it now. I'm able to do it where originally way back in the early days when I was just looking at magazines, I couldn't tell the difference between this physique, you know, first place and last place guy. to me they all look the same but now you know i can see the difference i can tell when they're holding water i can see all these different you know this guy's not quite as lean or or this girl she's a little bit too lean you know for what they're looking for the judges in this category they don't want to see that they don't want to see the the lines and being ripped you know and maybe their butt's a little bit too big or this or that you know and you just without knowing it, you pick up that knowledge. And it's just from repetitively looking at these different things and hearing it. And it's exciting. And now I'm able to use that and put it to use. And, you know, I've got guys, same thing. I tell them, who do you want to look like? And they'll tell me. And I'm like, and sometimes when they nail, I'm like, yeah, that's right on. That's exactly what I saw for you. So now we know what we're looking for. And, you know, as I'm watching them, it's almost like I see a silhouette, I don't know, like this. And I, you know, obviously if they're not in shape, they don't fit in that silhouette yet, but they Then you start seeing them, you know, every day is like shrinking, like they're almost getting into that, you know, model, that mold, you know, and it's a cool feeling. And it's a cool feeling. You know, one of my guys that I just started training not long ago, he told me, man, you know, my wife told me, man, I'm looking, you know, I'm looking better. She sees the difference. And he said it made him really look at himself. And now he's seeing the difference, too. And, you know, it's awesome because I can tell people all day long. Hey, man, you're looking good. You're looking great. Everything's going well. I'm sure somewhere in the back of their mind, they think, well, this guy, I'm paying him. Of course he's going to tell me everything's going well. But when they can see it for themselves. Man, that's just one of the cool feelings.
SPEAKER_01:We talked about that when you're getting it from different sources. That's how you know you. You know what I mean? You got, but it's subtle for you because it's every day a little bit, a little bit, a little bit. But once you start seeing family members you hadn't seen in a while and they're like, oh, hey, man. Just little comments. It really validates. It really brings it home. So that's cool. That's awesome.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah, like the client I told you that I'm so proud of her and she's doing so awesome. She went to a family function with You know, kind of like out of town. And I was excited. Like, I can't wait for this family to see her because she's freaking looking phenomenal now. And she came back and she said, you know, I said, well, how did it go? What did they say? She goes, oh, they didn't say nothing. And I was like, why? I'm like, how could they have not seen it? You know, I'm so super disappointed. But she goes, oh, no, I'm happy. She goes, because if I would have looked bad, they would have not stopped talking to me. So that happened. So that's their way of
SPEAKER_01:saying something.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah, yeah. It's like they couldn't say nothing. They had to shut up and be quiet. So it was really cool. So it's a lot of good things going on right now, and we don't want it to end. We're just going to keep it going, and it's cool.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah, same here, man. I think I'm right on the edge of stuff. next school year so what is that august i plan to be uh to be in all this stuff man so we'll see what happens man so
SPEAKER_00:right right yeah and uh you know as you were telling me those things how you were like uh you weren't seeing any progress it reminded me of that little meme where you see that guy digging that tunnel and one guy quits and he was like two inches away from cracking through and get to where the diamonds are but the other guy he just kept going because he knew eventually i'm gonna get there and he cracked through and uh i feel like you know you crack through and you know hopefully you know we don't I don't want to jinx that, but that's what it seems like. So, yeah, man, I'm glad everything's going good.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah, I got the certification. I got to, like, research next year, and I'm like, I haven't got a single thing from this, man. So I'm like, what the heck, man? It was hard. And you know how I got it? Because I went to a similar thing from today, but it was for the– when the college football was coming to Houston, the college championship that came, I guess, last year, two years ago. Well, this was a year or two prior to it coming and it was the same thing. And I met the lady who certifies you and she's like, this process normally takes a year, but let me know you were at this function and we'll push you through faster. And that's what happened. She pushed me through. And so going through these things has really paid dividends for me. Now I know the people and I got my certification because of that. And now I'm on this other by Houston by Houston thing and anyway so I mean I get down I got down a little bit you know but today was a good day
SPEAKER_00:so you know that's good man that's awesome one of the things that too that I had made a note about was you know when you do have this vision because I was telling people you know I always tell people and I was telling them last night you know see what you're going to do right see what you're going to do see what you're going for we start out light we'll do this exercise we'll go through it you know Push it, do everything we want, concentrate on things we want to. And then all we're going to do is when you get down to that heavy weight, you know, don't think about, you know, it's heavy. Just see it in your brain, you know, down, up. That's all you're doing. That's all you're doing. That's really all that we are doing. We're picking something up, putting it down, right? That's all there is. You've already done it with these weights. There's no different with this. It's the same process. Just see it. And then we're just going to repeat what you saw when you, and it's like, I don't know if it just changes your focus. It changes your belief, but to see that, you know, Boom, we hit it. And I don't know if it started reminding me of the trees, you know, when I did that little motivational Monday about the trees and golfing. And too many times, you know, we're standing there at the fairway. I don't think you played that much golf, but I know as a golfer, when I would stand there on the tee box, there's all of this green, all this fairway that's where you want your ball to go. But I just know, just like everybody else, it steps up. The first thing we focus on and the only thing we focus on is the water and the trees. You know, there's a lot less trees and a lot less water than there are fairway. But yet that's what we focus on. And inevitably, no matter how hard you try, no matter how hard you get, you're going to hit it right into the water and the trees. And in the process of reading some books. buying books, self-help books about the way to think about things when you're on the golf course and when you're at the tee box. And it said, and this is the first time I'd heard it, your brain, it's not wired to take negative commands. It doesn't understand can't or don't. All it hears is like, dude, like you say, so do not hit it into the trees. All it hears is hit the trees. And that's why you continually do that. So you need to change your focus from the trees, from the lake, from the bushes to hit it to the fairway, hit it to the fairway. And once you do that, your brain can focus and it knows, okay, this is what I'm trying to do. You can't tell it, don't do this because it doesn't recognize this. All it hears is do this. And once I started doing that on the golf course, Man, like my scores improved dramatically. And once I do that with other things, you know, quit focusing on those things you don't want to do. That's a waste of time. Focus on the things that you do want to do, that you do want to happen. And you just get so much more out of it. And you're more likely, you know, it's not a guaranteed 100% fail safe trick, but it's a lot more productive than that. Because they say negative thinking only leads to negative things. So, you know, if you try that trick, that's what I do. And as soon as I hear my client talking about, man, this is too heavy, you know, telling me, I'm like, okay, get that out of your brain. What's the worst that's going to happen? We're going to put the weight on the ground, right? The cop's not going to come in here and arrest us because you tried to lift too heavy a weight. You're not going to find you. You're not going to break nothing because when the weight comes down, if you can't get it up, we just drop it on the floor. That's what it's made for. That's one of the things that I try to get through to them. Quit worrying about what if it don't happen. Think about what it's going to feel like when it does happen. Once you change that mind frame, once you change that The mind frame of, man, I'm doing all this work. I'm trying to get this contract with so-and-so and all that stuff. It's going to happen. Just keep at it. Keep going. Keep digging. Like we talked about that guy digging towards the diamonds. It's going to happen. Quit thinking about, man, what if this cave caves in? What if there are no diamonds? Well, just keep going. You're going to get there. Those are some powerful lessons that I had to learn in real life. And now, as I'm an old man, it's finally sucking deep into this numb skull, and I'm seeing some real benefits from it.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah, same here. Same here. Like, you know, I would have been discouraged. I would have, you know, before. But when you come out on the other side, it's a good feeling. Andy Dufresne, right? Andy Dufresne.
SPEAKER_00:Smelling like a rose. There you go. Yeah. Well, anyway, Carlos, man, I'm glad to hear that. Those interviews that I had lined up, I had two, actually. I had one, and then I had a backup, and I lost out on both of them. Things came up. Life happens. I'll get back to them. Are they still in
SPEAKER_01:the works?
SPEAKER_00:Oh, yeah, yeah. They're going to happen. One got sick. One had all these other issues going on. It happens like that. In the past, I got frustrated, got upset. Not with them, but just... you know, frustrated that it's not working out like I supposed to, because I did have a, a plan of an order, how I wanted things to go. And, you know, I kind of like have given up on having that specific order because like I said, you know, life's crazy, you know, life's got too many variables and, you know, we're just going to do the best we can and we're going to get who's available when I can. And, uh, that's going to make things a lot easier on me, you know, a stressful, less stressful for me to, to get it taken care of. And I had another, she's going to be really, really interesting. She came on, she contacted me that she wanted to get on the show. So, you know, but she says, I don't think, you know, I don't know if I really have that cool of a story to talk about. And I asked her, cause I knew a little bit of her background. So I said, well, didn't you do this? And didn't you do that? She's like, yeah, yeah. I said, man, I said, man, we can have a mini series if you want, cause you got some interesting stuff going on. So, Yeah, so it's it. You know, people want to come on and talk and, you know, share their stories. And I think because it went so well with Dr. Miriam, they heard, you know, how, you know, everything kind of flowed, you know, and it was no... We're not trying to make anybody look stupid or gotcha or nothing like that. You know, we just want to hear. I want to hear what you got to say. I want to know how you got to where you're at. Because who knows? We've done plenty of that on
SPEAKER_01:our
SPEAKER_00:own. We don't need help for that. I'm trying for us to look smart, you know. I'm not trying to do that. We got that covered, man. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. So, yeah, everything's going awesome.
SPEAKER_01:We haven't actually, like, put it out there. But, hey, if somebody out there has a great story or a good story or you think your story might be good, reach out, you know. Reach out. And we're always looking for content. I mean, it's not easy to come up with something. So, hey, it's a good thing if y'all listening and y'all got something good to say, reach out.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah, contact on Instagram. The numbers I gave you, text me at 281-799-2339 and we'll put you on there. If you just want to come in and... share something, whatever it is, you know, like I said, anything works, you know, everybody's, everybody's got their own story. That's one of the things too, is everybody's got an interesting thing that that's happened to them or that they want to share. And maybe they don't know how to share it. Let me know what it is. And we'll find a way to strike up a conversation where it'll come out pretty entertaining. And you, you know, believe me, we can make it work. So other than that, man, we don't
SPEAKER_01:pay. So just,
SPEAKER_00:but if you come on, we'll double it. Yeah. So, Carlos, any final words before we sign off for this week? No, I guess like we
SPEAKER_01:said, just like what happened to me and just like in training, you're in the middle of a trusted process. Don't get discouraged. There's going to be down times. You're going to be tired. You may have suffered some setbacks. I was pretty discouraged and just weather the storm and trust the process. That's all I got.
SPEAKER_00:Awesome. Yeah, same thing here. I was the same way with you. I was I'm like, man, is any of this gonna really happen in time? Am I really gonna start building up this clientele? Well, is it even possible that at some point I could have my own place? But now, having a little bit of a different approach and doing things in a little different way. And like I said, you keep putting it out there in the universe long enough, it's like these things just start happening and everything starts coming together. It's almost like you laid out these little pieces And almost like making that shirt. We laid out all those pieces, put all these different designs out there, but then all of a sudden you see it come into fruition and it'll happen. It's exciting. So don't get frustrated and just stay with it. Keep your nose to the grindstone and you'll get there eventually. All right. So, Carlos, hopefully we can get back together next week. And, you know, we talked about having plans for that big Memorial Day episode with Friggins. Yeah, well, we need to set that up and we will. I look forward to having that. And that's something I'm going to really enjoy that. So, you know, we got some big things planned ahead and hopefully I get those interviews going and more exciting people more entertaining we'll see you talk to you all again next week just remember stay focused stay disciplined stay sharp talk to you next week
