Praxis: The Hidden Link to Behavioral, Emotional, and Academic Challenges

Cassie Wilcox & Erica Scheifflee Season 2 Episode 15

Most people have never heard of the word “praxis,” and yet it permeates our everyday lives—for both children and adults. For many people, praxis skills come easily and naturally which is why we never really talk about it. However, for many other people—especially those with sensory processing difficulties—a breakdown in praxis can lead to challenges with:

  • Social interactions and success with peers
  • Rigid thinking
  • Emotional dysregulation (meltdowns, tantrums, anxiety, “shut down”, etc)
  • Academic learning challenges
  • Difficulties learning self-care skills (getting dressed, brushing teeth, etc)
  • Challenges learning a new sport
  • The list goes on!

Join us to learn:

  • What is praxis?
  • What role does it play in development?
  • What can we do when there are breakdowns in praxis?

Next month, we will go into a more specific set of skills that develop from praxis…EXECUTIVE FUNCTION!
