In this episode I speak about how we are socialised from a capitalist standpoint to be an active member of society so that we can be profited from, and the issues that this causes within us as we lose the ability to express ourselves freely.

I mention  the different ways men and women are socialised and how our society benefits from keeping us in these boxes although it is commonly at the detriment of our mental states. While men struggle to express emotion and upset but are pushed towards aggression and more 'active' behaviours, women are forbade from appearing 'manly' or aggressive but are much more in tune with their emotions. These stereotypical traits come purely from learned behaviour and make it difficult for each of these genders to live authentically.

I think it's also important to mention the trans community within this discussion. they are consistently breaking the boundaries of what should be expected of humans that are constantly being forced into boxes that don't fit them. If gender is to be looked at from a black and white perspective, the trans community provides a grey area that often makes people that conform to these unrealistic expectations of gender norms wildly uncomfortable. The same way that Rosa Parks and Martin Luther King Jr. understood that making people uncomfortable was necessary for change, the trans community consistently break these norms, often resulting in devastating physical or emotional violence.

All I can hope is that one day the brave actions of the trans and wider LGBTQ+ community becomes so normalised that these stereotypes that are constantly pushed upon us become so outdated that we are free to live authentically without expectations.
