Episode 62: Sean Kelly- Former Duke Basketball National Champion to Marathon Running Dad!
In this episode, Sam brings on Sean Kelly. Sean grew up as a gifted athlete. He enjoyed baseball and was a walk-on to the Duke University Basketball team. For three years, he served as a player manager, and in his fourth year, he earned a spot on the team, ultimately becoming part of the 2015 National Championship-winning team.
After graduating, Sean wanted to continue working towards personal accomplishments. Because of that, he challenged himself back in 2022 to run the NYC marathon. Sean embarked on this new fitness journey, while being a father of two, and working a full time job. Sean shares his struggles in that race as he needed to enter the medical tent at mile 16 and how he bounced back in the 2023 NYC marathon.
Sean shares a ton of value on training for beginner runners, especially about time management and motivation, as he lives an especially busy life. He also shares how to stay healthy while running, and balancing other fitness activities such as basketball. He even shares some fun Duke Basketball stories!
