THE BODY HAS NEVER BEEN AWARE

People mistakenly believe “the body is aware”
Believing the physical body is aware of inner and outer world
Thus they believe themselves to be the body
And this is the root cause of suffering.

Scenes appear and dissolve within Awareness
Not by the eyes seeing nor the ears hearing
Like waves appearing and dissolving within the ocean 
Who is aware of the waves? It is the ocean itself.

Eyes open, we see, eyes closed, we don’t
Hence the mistaken belief that eyes see the form
Yet when eyes are open while being lost in thought, we don’t see the scene
While sleeping the eyes are closed, yet the dreamscape appears clearly.

We believe sound is heard by the ear
Then why do we hear nothing when deep in thought?
Music echoes clearly even when the outside is silent
Sound has never been heard by the ear.

If touch were aware by the physical body
Then why, when deeply engaged in work, pain or heat is not felt?
In a dream, a knife stab hurts sharply
Yet who touched the sleeping body?

“Thoughts arise within the head,” many people believe
But no thoughts can be found if the head is cut open
How can a spirit, having no body, is still aware?
Thoughts arise within Awareness - that’s the obvious truth.

Experience always comes first
The thought “the body is aware” comes later
Awareness still occurs without the physical body
“Ear hears,” “eye sees” - these are mere fabricated labels.

This body, from beginning to end, has never been aware
It is merely a flickering image in the mirror.
Awareness is the one that has always been aware
You are always aware, so Who are you?
