Welcome to the love yourself healthy poke cost. I am Melanie Lillis. I'm an eating psychology coach, nutritional therapist and I have my bachelor off physical and health education. Throughout this podcast, we are going to be diving into the room off eating psychology, body image, self love and creating a healthy and happy mind. I cannot wait to share my knowledge with you in hope that it's going to President Glee. Influence your life. Hello and welcome back to the pub Cast all of you beautiful people. I have no idea what I am going to speak about on this podcast. But I was just sitting down and scrolling through my phone and realizing that I was being super unproductive and that I should probably come in recorded podcast. So here we are. We'll see where this takes us. But I first want obviously address what is going on in the world and yet a really uncertain time. And I know that a lot of people out there are experiencing a lot of anxiety and uncertainty and yeah, I can really relate. I am currently in quarantine, just got back from overseas a week and a few days ago and yeah, I have no job to go to you. I don't know what's gonna happen after this, and it could be a really scary time. So before I get into, um, what we're gonna talk about, I wanted to just say that if you are feeling quite uncertain and anxious, please understand that you're not alone and that this is just temporary. I had a message from someone who follows my podcast asking for me to speak about you know, the anxiety around this time and the intense scarcity, I guess that the media is creating within the world. And it's so true. The media Ah, really, really scaring people. And I I understand why they bring it. They're doing it so that more one, obviously this is what's going on in the world, and all they're gonna show is the main things that are going on in the world. But to if the media don't make people scared, then people won't follow the rules. There's obviously depending on what country you're in. There's different rules that are being that have been put in place. Ah, that people need to follow such a social distancing or complete self isolation or whatever it is. And if we weren't taking it seriously or if we went, I guess scared from you know, what the media and the government are creating, then we may know actually follow through with these rules. So yeah, just know that the media are gonna hype it up, But this is for, I guess, a really good reason. Um yeah. In Australia, there are different rules, depending on what state you're in. But I guess the main hole is the same, which is self isolation. So making sure that you are staying home unless you actually need to go outside for things like groceries. I think I'm going to 30 minutes of exercise outside about practicing social distancing. Keeping a meter and 1/2 away from people is what's being implemented right now. Oh, non essential businesses are closed, and yet it's a bit of, ah, weed. We had time, but it's actually I find it's actually quite a beautiful time right now because what's happening is that it's forcing people to focus on self development and mindset, because if you don't, then you're gonna go down this really big rabbit hole off anxiety and depression and I feel like it's giving us the the okay, meaning no guilt around making time just for yourself, around staying home and not having to go out all the time to social gatherings or whatever it may be. It's giving us permission to really drop into ourselves and focus on what's my body calling from May. What do I need to do? How can I uses experience, which is really negative right now around the world, and turn it into something that's quite positive? And that's my mind set on it. I'm able to really focus on my business. I'm lucky enough that not that I make that much of an income, but I'm lucky enough that my business is all online. I do one on one coaching online, do group coaching programs online, and it's giving me the time to really work on these and improve. My service is, um and yet and be that support for people who are struggling as I think, I said in my last podcast. I am worried about people who are struggling with an eating disorder throughout this time because they have no distractions to get themselves away from it, and it can really flare up their symptoms. So even though I am worried, I also feel grateful that I can be that person for them, that they could reach out to me and be like, Hey, Mel, look, I'm really struggling right now. What's your tips? How can you help me? All of this so makes me feel good. Um, but if you are struggling and you just want someone to talk to you, please just reach out because I'm in quarantine and on board, and I like to help people. So I guess my theme of today, Um I don't really know what I'm gonna get into. My theme of today will be around this self isolation quarantine kind of issue. And I guess how we can turn this from a negative into a positive. So maybe I'll give you my top tips of things to do and kind of mindset to have around this time. So my first tip, let's just talk. Let's talk specifically about people who ah, at home and going throughout their day, Not sure what to do. Feeling really useless feeling really bored. My best tip for you would to be to create a morning and night retain and maybe even some sort of a daily structure. I know for me if I get up and help my phone, and I spent hours on my phone that I might go do some handstands or I might on a no go do a workout. If I don't have that structure in the day. I feel like I haven't achieved anything, and I feel a little bit down on myself at the end of the day. Whereas when I implement my morning routine, which is waking up having a big glass of water during a stretch, really just taking my time in the morning in allowing my body to wake up slowly, doing nice and gentle movements and then having a really healthy breakfast that for May I obviously can't go for a walk. Right now I'm in quarantine, but if I could go for a walk, I'd be doing my walks and things like that. It makes me feel like I've accomplished something then I like to set out a couple of tasks in the day that I want to complete. That might bay right now recording a podcast. It might be working on my website. It might be updating my programs, whatever it is, doing something for me, that is work related, that I can kind of take off and be like, Okay, that's what I've done for today. I feel really good about that moving on into the night time. I mean, this is where you can allow yourself to just do whatever you want. I mean, it's nice to have a night retain just before you go to bed, which could be something like 10 minutes of meditation or a face mosque that you know. It makes your skin feel really hydrated and makes you feel really beautiful, whatever it is. But it can also be just then go off that guilt to put on Netflix toe, have a glass of wine, whatever it is, just to really wind down from the day. So I feel like if I have done a really good morning retain, I've done some work on my business or created some videos or new content, whatever it is, And then I have made healthy food throughout the day. I've relaxed and watch some Netflix or whatever it is at night time. I feel quite accomplished at the end of my day and I don't know, I just I can get through my day much easier and I wake up the next day with a more positive mindset. Now, I don't know what your day is like. Maybe you can still go to toe work. Maybe you don't have a business to work on. I'll get to that a little bit later. But just know that having a little bit of structure throughout your day can make a big, big difference. Now my next tip would be to play around with your workouts. The most beautiful thing that I'm seeing at the moment is that every PT every gym, every fitness professional is creating an online content place. So whether they're uploading workouts on the Instagram or their YouTube channel or they're creating, you know, like of subscription based thing, there are an intense amount of different workouts online right now, and that's a really cool thing because not only are they all ones that you can do at home, but it also allows you to get creative and get experimental with what you usually do for your workout. So if you're someone who usually goes to F 45 every single day and just slams yourself there. Maybe you want to try a yoga 21 day thing. You know, I don't know. Maybe you want to mix it up and just see how your body reacts. It's really interesting. You can use this time right now to experiment on your body. Maybe a 45 workouts don't actually work for you. Maybe they create too much cortisol, which is our stress chemical that signals the body to store Wait in store fat. Maybe what you really need is that yoga, which puts you into that real accession response and decreases those stress chemicals and allows your body to go a little bit more into balance. So use this time right now to really I'm not a mix up things. Try allowed a dance class, trial out some hip hop, do some meditation, do some yoga, do some hit, do some body weight. Just do all of it. See Rich one works view. Um, and yet all of it can be done. Holmes. That's really cool, too. The next thing that I won't talk about is food. Now, this is the main thing that people come to me for food is going to be probably the one of the biggest challenges for a lot of people Right now. You're gonna be at home a lot. You're gonna be really bored. You're gonna be out of your routine. And I want you to know that it is O. K. To not be eating super healthy right now. Understand that what's going on right now is gonna go down in history. Things are so uncertain. Things are so out of balance, things of really stressful for a lot of people and your food might suffer. Who cares? Don't stress about your food, But some of the tips are some of the best strategies that I can give you is to slow down and eat Really present. Don't rush any of your meals. Obviously, in an ideal world, you're gonna wake up every single meal and snack is going to be super super healthy. But unfortunately, ideal worlds are very hard to come by. So what you need to remember every single meal is to slow down. As I've spoken about in many of my podcast, eating fast and eating on the go or in a rush causes a stress response within the body in the stress response. We going to some degree off digestive shutdown, but we don't calorie burn on metabolized efficiently, and we don't absorb or assimilate on nutrients efficiently. We also release increased levels of insulin and cortisol that signal the body to store, wait, store fat and not build muscle. So even if you're eating unhealthy, you need to slow it down and enjoy the experience. I guarantee you won't eat as much off the food or you'll metabolize and calorie burn it more efficiently because you're in that relax Asian response. So obviously you wanna wake up and you want to try to eat as a nourishing meal as you can. But if you do go for that, say, quote unquote unhealthy meal, don't punish yourself. Enjoy the meal. Don't worry right now is a crazy time, so you just need to be kind and understand that you're normal eating routine might go out the window. Okay, now I can talk more about food specific topics if you want or you need to do is contact me other my Instagram barracks brave or send me an email Hello at bear expiry of dot com. Give me a little topics or questions that you're gonna answer and podcasts, and I'll be happy to do so. Now. My next tip is going to be pick a new skill to learn. So, as I said to you before, if you don't have work related things to do in the day, even if you do, picking a new skill toe learn will give you a few hours of your day where you can really focus on something else again. Feel accomplished for completing it. So I'm not sure what you want to try. Maybe you want to really become good at drawing or painting. Maybe you've always wanted to do a dance class. Maybe you want to get singing lessons, play guitar. I don't know. Whatever it is, jump on YouTube and find a tutorial and really dedicate some time every day to try to learn that new skill again. Not only will you feel accomplished, but you might come out of this quarantine with a new skill or hobby that you really, really, really love and that you would have never tried before. In my last tip. That I want to tell you ought to do is to practice gratitude, Daily anxiety and stress and uncertainty might be emotions that come up for you throughout this whole self isolation period. So it's really important to take some time in your day. I like to do this every morning and every night to remind yourself of what you're grateful off, whether it's your health, whether it's your family, whether it's the fact that you have a roof over your head, whatever it is, remind yourself off things that you're grateful for, that you don't get really overwhelmed with everything that's going on in the world right now. That's a really important tip to make sure you take on board. Now if you're, ah, someone that is struggling with an eating disorder or disordered eating patterns like binge aiding, negative body image, self love, all of that and you would like some one on one coaching, just send me through an email. Hello, bear experience dot com, and we can talk about setting something up because I don't want you to feel alone in this time. I want you to feel really supported and yeah, that you've got so much time right now to work on yourself. So use the time wisely. So I hope you enjoyed my little top tips for quarantine. I can't even believe that that is going to be my I think I'm gonna make this my our podcast title which will go down in history for me. Hopefully you'll have ah having a really good time right now. I know. As I said, what a strange time but uses for your benefit. I'm actually having a lot of fun on tic tac. No, I am not 12 years old. I am 30 years old, but I like doing handstands.
