Healthy Expectations

Jess Bjorling

A lot of our disappointment and discouragement comes from unmet expectations. Especially when it comes to what we expect of ourselves. If you can walk into this period with adjusted and realistic expectations, you are way more likely to avoid discouragement and feel a lot more contentment and happiness.

Many things in the postpartum stage will be outside of our control - physical challenges, our baby, and some of our other circumstances. But what IS in our control are the expectations we have of ourselves.

In this episode, we discuss setting realistic and healthy expectations that you have for YOU.

  • The first expectation is that your “checklist” of things to get done each day should revolve around taking care of your needs and your baby’s. That’s it!
  • The second expectation is that the other areas in your life outside of the essential priorities should only require B- effort. Or should be delegated to someone else for a time.
  • And the third expectation is to expect that this stage will feel different from your typical schedule. And rather than trying to stress about creating a rigid routine or schedule, just focus on taking baby steps right now towards a routine.
