The Postpartum Stage Does Not Have to be Scary

The postpartum stage doesn't have to be scary.

When I had my first baby I would describe myself as more "naive" when it came to what to expect in the postpartum stage. After my experience, I shifted to more of a scared state - scared to ever go through that stage again. That was obviously not a state I wanted to stay in.

I decided that I needed to shift from "scared" to "prepared".

Today I am sharing the three things that helped me do this, and the three things that I help other expectant or new moms do.

  1. Creating a Postpartum Plan
  2. Ask for help
  3. Maintaining perspective

You do not have complete control over how labor and delivery goes, if you tear or have a c-section, how breastfeeding goes, how your baby sleeps, etc.  But you do have control over these three things - you can be prepared by creating and implementing a postpartum plan, you can identify areas where you need help and ask for that help, and you can maintain the perspective that this stage will pass and will not last forever.
