Word of the Week:HIDE
In this final installment in the “PROTECT” series, we will explore the most elemental power in providing protection; the power to “HIDE”.
The anchor scripture for this series is from Psalms 91:1“He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High rests in the shadow of the Almighty”.
This scripture imparts the message that God’s divine rest is with those who live within the protection of God.
While many see hiding as cowardice, others understand that hiding:Creates a boundary between you and the perceived threat. Is a strategy to be used when fighting an enemyAllows time to recover, reestablish, and renew strength, commitment and perspective.Makes survival possible.Protects you from physical, mental, or spiritual harm or danger.
The passage reminds us that when we dwell in God’s shelter, we are assured rest in His shadow.
But that raises an important question: “How do you get to dwell in the shelter of the Most High.”
I am glad you asked.
The rules for occupancy in God’s dwelling are similar to the rules for dwelling anywhere --from a hotel to your eternal home in glory:1. Form a personal relationship with the owner. Get to know Almighty God, for yourself.2. Learn the requirements for staying in the dwelling place. The rule book for occupancy in this dwelling place is the Holy Bible. Read it. Pray. Ask the Holy Spirit to help you understand it. 3. Honor and respect the owner, and the house. Love God with all your heart. Treat your neighbor as yourself. Be grateful for shelter, protection and everything that God has provided.
From the moment we are born, we instinctively seek protection. I remember when my baby first learned to crawl. When she encountered what she perceived as a threat, she would crawl to a corner, make herself as small as possible and turn her face away-- but she would not close her eyes. It was as if, in choosing not to engage with the threat, she felt shielded from it.
That image reflects the kind of confidence we have when we dwell in the Shelter of the Almighty. In God’s shelter, just like my baby, we can choose to ignore the threat—not because the threat is not real, but because God’s protection is more powerful.
We can declare our protection as confidently as we did when as children saying, “tick a lock, tick a lock all the way around”, while building our imaginary shelter. But now, our confidence is not in imagination, but in knowing that under God’s protection, we can truly “Hide in plain sight”.
As we navigate this ever-changing world, filled with uncertainty and challenge, remember this truth:
It is God who gives not only the ability to hide, but the wisdom to know where to hide.
Hiding in God is not weakness—It is wisdom, strategy, and trust.
In closing, consider this:Protection without the ability to hide is incomplete. Without the true covering of God, we remain as exposed as naked people going into battle believing they are fully dressed.
GOD BLESS YOU!!
