La Vida Más Chévere de Childfree Latinas
Childfree Latinas: you’re not alone. You're a movement! This podcast is here to make that loud and clear.
Hosted by speaker and community builder Paulette Erato, this Spanglish show digs into what it really means to choose a life sin hijos in a culture that treats motherhood like an obligation. But we don’t stop there! LVMC pushes past the surface-level “childfree” conversation and into the messy, cultural beliefs we were all raised with: the silence, the guilt, the constant self-sacrifice, the pressure to make ourselves small, agreeable, and convenient.
Every other Tuesday, Paulette (and sometimes guests) invites childfree Latinas y Latines to say F THAT! Let’s unpack the toxic traditions and generational scripts that keep us calladitas. Because once you see how these patterns show up in our careers, relationships, families, finances, creativity, and identity, you can’t UNSEE it. So let’s do what it takes to unlearn them without burning down our entire lives.
This is not a judgment zone, but it’s also not a polite one. It’s a space where we name things out loud: machismo, marianismo, internalized misogyny, cultural expectations, and all the emotional labor we were told was just part of being “a good girl.”
By mixing real talk, sharp analysis, and bilingual humor, the show helps you let go of the old burdens we were raised to carry: the duty to please everyone, the fear of disappointing la familia, and the constant need to defend your choices. If you’re ready to trust yourself more, reclaim your time, live on your own terms, and design a life that actually feels like yours, you’re in the right place.
And that’s a burrito!

Buen día mi gente, and welcome to La Vida Más Chévere de Childfree Latinas, the only Spanglish podcast for childfree Latinas y Latines helping us liberate ourselves from the toxic cultural brainwashing we all grew up with so that we can design our best lives. Instead, I'm your host and resident childfree Latina, Paulette Erato. Hello in 2026. It's been a long time. But let's be real, 2025 was rough. Yeah, for a lot of us. All of us really. There was so much collective difficulty this past year, and I know many of you faced your own personal challenges. For me, my parents broke up. So if anyone has advice on how to be a nearly 50-year-old child of divorce, I'd really love to hear about that. But anyway, I know I'm not alone in having faced a difficult year. That's actually why I created a summit that we're gonna have next week. It's called the Love Your Voice Summit. We saw podcasters dealing with this overwhelm, this disarray that 2025 brought, and we wanted to create something that gave us tools and community to navigate through it all. A way to find our voices again when everything felt so chaotic. And speaking of finding our voices and trying to move forward, I'm actually really excited to tell you about something that's coming up. 2026 is really personally for, for me personally, is turning out to be wildly different, from 2025. And I don't know if it's my mindset or I manifested this, I mean, I know I did, I put in the work. But this Saturday, February 7th, if you're listening to it before then, so the day before the Super Bowl, where Bad Bunny will be performing, I am giving a TEDx pitch right here in Long Beach at the Jade Restaurant on the water. It's. A TEDx Talk is something I have been working on for a very long time. I did a coaching program, it was very expensive. And they told me that the average number of TEDx stages that someone has to apply to before they're chosen is 82. Well, I applied to 10. And if you read the Substack about it, I'll link it in the show notes. Um. It's led to two potential stages. See, when you apply to speak at a TEDx event, you have to submit an audition video, for lack of a better term. It's one to two minutes. Well, because the TEDx Long Beach event, and that's not actually what it's called, the true name is TEDx Shoreline Drive, because they're brand new, they're actually using this event to do those pitches live. So these auditions are all live this Saturday because they're trying to, uh, pump up the hype for their inaugural event. So my pitch is called Choose Support Over Sabotage. Though I think of it informally as The Hater in Your Head is Not the Authority. And after the year that we all basically just survived, that feels like a really important message. It's about choosing to listen to the supportive voices, it's, starting with the internal one, instead of the sabotaging ones. It's about breaking free from those voices that keep us from designing our best lives, our vidas más chévere. Whether that's choosing to be childfree or pursuing unconventional careers or any other path that doesn't follow the traditional life script we've been handed and lied to about. You know how sometimes you have an idea, a dream, something you really wanna do, and immediately that voice in your head starts telling you all the reasons why you can't? Why you shouldn't, why you're not good enough or qualified enough or whatever? That's the hater in your head, and it is not the authority on your life. And that is what my pitch is all about. It's about recognizing that you can choose to support yourself instead of sabotaging yourself and actually move forward with the life you want to create. Which is basically what I talk about on this podcast all the time because it's all connected. Living your vida más chévere, living as authentically on your own terms as you can is all about breaking free from the toxic cultural traditions and expectations. But sometimes those expectations live lodged in your brain. But that voice in there, it's probably not even yours. It belongs to someone else, and you can kick 'em out. So for those of you who are in the Long Beach or Southern California area, you can actually come to this and I would love to see you there. Pitching to a live audience is so much easier when you know the people in the audience and you know they're there to support you. I will leave a link to tickets in the show notes. They range from like$17 to just under $24. The VIP tickets are sold out, but there's still some seats and standing room only. I think it's like general admission. And then there's an after party where I would love to see you to connect, celebrate, and you know, just hang out. So if you're local and you're listening to this podcast, if you've been on this journey with me to TEDx, it would be really great to meet you in person. And see you and see us through this next chapter of our lives together. And even if you can't make it, maybe you're not local, maybe Saturday doesn't work for you. This isn't the only TEDx opportunity. That's, like I said, there might be another one, which I've already fulfilled the audition tape for. They've already interviewed me, so I'm just waiting to hear. Right now, I am Schrodinger's TEDx speaker. I haven't gotten it, but I haven't not gotten it. You know what I'm saying? So that's part of why the podcast has been on hold for so long. I've been giving everything I have to Latinas In Podcasting. And quite frankly, I burnt out managing last year's virtual summit, which happened in October. And also trying to make my TEDx dreams come true. So moving forward, in order to try to balance all of this, I'm going to produce fewer episodes, probably only on a monthly basis. I don't know exactly when they'll come out. Hopefully on Tuesdays. And I hope that you'll stick around. I know you're still listening to old back catalog stuff. I see the downloads. I really appreciate that. And if there's something in particular you want to hear about, you know, you can always reach out to me. There is a link in every single episode where you can text me. Now, I won't know it's from you unless you put your name in the text. I would love if you would do that. But feel free to reach out, tell me what you wanna hear, tell me what toxic cultural norm you want me to dismantle for you, and I will make an episode about that. Because I wanna give you what you wanna hear about. So 2026 is about making a strategic shift. Fewer episodes, but higher impact is what I'm hoping. They'll all be intentional and they'll all be worth your time. There are a few guests I still wanna interview. I think they're going to have amazing stories for you. And this isn't about doing less. It's about doing better. So that's where we are, mi gente. That's the update. I'm back. I'm more strategic about it. I'm more focused. I'm excited about what's coming. So if you're in the LA area this weekend, and if you can make it down to Long Beach to the Jade Restaurant at 11 o'clock on Saturday morning, you can watch me pitch a TEDx stage live. I'd love to see you. I'd love to give you a hug. I'd love to celebrate this moment. But if you can't make it, stay tuned because the next episode will be letting you know whether or not I actually landed it. All right, so new episodes coming soon. Thank you for sticking with me through this hiatus. Thank you for being part of this community. Thank you for choosing to design your vida más chévere instead of following someone else's script. And that's a burrito. Hey, mira, if this episode made you feel some kind of way, dígame! DM me on Instagram or send me a text. You can do that right from your phone.
