Show Notes Transcript

Hello Brave souls,

This episode also bears news of a significant shift for this podcast. As I juggle new personal milestones, including the birth of my second child, and professional commitments like a partnership with Santa Cruz County Public Health Department, regularity in our podcast release schedule is taking a back seat.

But worry not, we’re not going off the radar!

Whenever there's an exciting guest to feature or enriching information that needs sharing, a brand-new episode will be on its way. To keep pace with us, make sure you're subscribed to The Hearth. Here's to many more insightful, passionate conversations on the world of work and health!

If something you heard today brought a smile to your face or a spark to your heart, and you’d like to connect with me, here are a few ways you can do that.

One is my newsletter, it’s where I put most of my time and energy when I’m not working with clients or on this podcast. Sorry social media! It’s a mix of real life stories, tips and tricks and of course updates on what’s happening with the podcast. Whenever something is going on with me or in my business, it always comes out there first.

Another resource that I have for you is my Guide to Doing Work Differently. The guide takes you through four inquiries into how you can build a more sustainable and equitable work environment for yourself and your team. It's a great place to start.

Last, if you’ve got a burning question, a comment, or a situation you’d like my eyes on, you can email me at candice@fortressandflourish.com.

If you enjoyed this episode, hit subscribe to know when the next episodes come out, and if you’re feeling generous, leave a review. Reviews help other like-minded folks find their way to this resource.

Speaker 1:

The hearth is for you if you're a business leader with a team. Here we have conversations about how to keep growing. When you feel you've reached your capacity, when what you're doing is working but you're starting to see the cracks, when there's a gap between where you're at now and where you want to be, here we find ways to transition through the struggle of survival toward creating a thriving business that supports you and your team as whole humans. Your host is me, candice Elliott. I'm a business strategist and mentor who specializes in working with business owners who are going through periods of growth. Especially when you're adding more people to your team, the practices and systems that worked when your team was smaller just don't seem to fit anymore, and when you're caught in stress and reaction, it's tough to reimagine the way that you created your world of work, both your own personal one and the one that you created for others. I help people align their values and business practices to build practical, sustainable, thriving work ecosystems and no, this isn't just some work utopia talk. To do this, I bring forward my decade-long professional background in human resources and organizational development, working with growing businesses across many sectors, and my decades-long search for meaning and wholeness, which includes researching the history of work and how it came to be what it is today, practicing a trauma-informed approach to business and integrating work, life and spirituality into a meaningful whole. Let's take this journey together. Hello Bravesoles, I have come to the end of an entire year of podcasting and it has been such a joy to do.

Speaker 1:

I've been loving it so much. I think my favorite part about podcasting has been bringing in these amazing speakers to just talk about what they're passionate about. And then I've also really loved diving into an incredible amount of research and using this as a way to get the message out there and start talking about, especially the intersection of health and work. It's just been such a cool medium for that. That said, I think you guys all know or if you're newer to the podcast I have had my second baby. His name is Runeer and he was born in August of this year, the year that I'm recording this. So that means that I've had to take another look at how I'm spending my time.

Speaker 1:

When I look at the upcoming months, what I'm seeing is that, amazingly, wonderfully, I have a lot of amazing people that I'm going to be working with. Thank you. I'm excited to announce that I am starting work with Santa Cruz County Public Health Department. We're going to be working on retention and we're going to be doing some training for managers. We're going to be doing some mentorship HR mentorship. In that space, there are currently three organizations that are utilizing my fractional chief human resources officer program. Let's Lead Together. Those are the Coastal Watershed Council, santa Cruz County Park Friends and Sante Adarius, which is a local brewery. They're award-winning. I'm also working on some projects for a few different organizations. What that means is that I've decided that I need to spend the next quarter bringing on some more support for my team so building out my team, which means that I'm not going to have as much time to focus on this podcast and interviewing people.

Speaker 1:

I've been able to in this last year look out, broadcast, spend time on learning what it is that the message is here at Fortress and Flourish, and how to talk about what we do and being able to invite people in to share their wonderful and amazing work. I am planning on continuing to do that, but I'm not going to be releasing episodes on a regular basis, like it happened For the last year. If you've been a listener, you've pretty reliably been able to count on an episode coming out every Thursday from me, except when I was taking a break some time away over the summer. That's not what it's going to look like here in these upcoming months. In these upcoming months, when I have something that's on my mind that really would be valuable to share, I will record an episode and put it out, but it's not going to be on a regular basis like that. If there is a person that I want to invite to have a conversation together, we'll do that, but again, it's not going to be on that every other week kind of schedule that it has been. If you want to know when episodes drop, please subscribe to the hearth. You will be notified of new episodes that way.

Speaker 1:

Another way to keep in touch with me is through my newsletter. My newsletter will continue to come out every Thursday, and that'll be where you can learn about things that are happening in Fortress and Flourish and stay connected with me. I have an exciting announcement that's going to happen in my newsletter in January, so I encourage you to head on over to the website fortressandflourishcom slash newsletter to sign up for that Then. The other way to stay connected is just through social media. I'm most active on Instagram at Fortress and Flourish, but also I spend some time over on LinkedIn as well, so if that's your preferred mode of social media, then you can connect with me that way. Then, when I return to a more regular flow of recording episodes, I will, of course, keep you updated on that. If you have been thinking about working with me and if you feel like perhaps the new year might be a good time for that, I encourage you to get on my calendar. Let's have a navigation call and chat about how I might be able to support you. I am looking forward to connecting with you, if that's in our near future or in our future future, please yeah, you know join the newsletter, check me out on social media and so that we can keep staying connected regularly through this time when I'm taking a step back although not a step away from this podcast, hit subscribe to know when the next episodes come out. And, if you're feeling generous, please leave a review.
