Hi, this is Katie, and thank you for joining me on the Creating Your Sanctuary podcast. And this is a podcast about creating those little moments and a space that supports you. And today I wanted to talk about the word clarity. And I think right now it can be really hard to gain clarity with what's going on in the world, with what we're all experiencing. If you're neurodivergent, sometimes it can just be really overwhelming, all these facts and events and information coming at you, or that the information that you're getting is making your own head spin. ADHD, I know for me is like, I get some information, but then it raises a whole bunch of questions. Dealing with depression can make you feel really low and like everything's foggy.

And so you're just trying to wake up and trying to see what is the next thing I can do and muster up the energy for. And even chronic illness, it can just be like so depleting. When you wake up, you don't know how much energy you're going to have. Even with all of this, there are some small things that you can do to have a little clarity in your day. So these are some things that I'm just calling like mini moves to see if doing a couple of these things might feel good and also clear a little space in your mind. So one thing you can start with is like taking a sip of water or taking a few deep breaths to reconnect with your body. You can also do some really small things.

So this mini move could be something like responding to one text or looking at one email instead of tackling everything. One of my favorite things to do is to just unsubscribe from one email list. And I find if you do this every day for a month, you have unsubscribed from 30 email lists. And if they were sending once a week, that is 30 times four. So that's 120 emails that you have eradicated from your inbox. And it's not about going backward, but just starting from today and moving forward. And that's just a mini move I can make each day, but that kind of leverages the power of weight.

I am doing this small thing that is stopping this amount of information that's coming at me that I do not need and allowing me to clear my brain more to have more space in the future. You can also do small shifts of your environment. You can open your window, you can adjust some lighting, you can tidy one small surface. So little things around your space that might help you again, just have some more space to do things. And even looking at a cleared space, it could just be in your nightstand. It could just be half of your table, right? It doesn't even have to be the whole thing.

Just taking five minutes to put a few things away. And having that clear space gives your mind some clarity. It just, when you're looking around at all these to-do items, it can be really heavy and it just feels like everything is screaming your name that it needs to be done, that it needs attention. But when you tackle each one of them as a mini move, as a little tiny thing, those voices start to calm down. So yeah, if you have a lot to do around you, it is going to take time. Again, unsubscribing from a newsletter a day takes 30 days, right? That's not getting everything done in an afternoon.

Now, if you feel inspired, if you do one thing and you're like, wait, I have a little extra energy and it feels right and you have the time, go for it. Let your body lead you into it. But also these mini moves give you an opportunity to try something. You can set a timer for one minute and just see how much trash you can just throw away. Or one minute to empty a dishwasher halfway. It doesn't have to be the whole complete thing, but when you come back to it later, it's already partly done. So it's easier to enter back into because you're like, wait, I already know how this feels.

I already know that I have some momentum here. I can do the rest. But the whole point of a mini move is not to do the whole thing, but just to do very, very small things. So focusing on a clarity state of mind over productivity can actually bring some calm and confidence into your life. So one note, when you are looking around your space, or you are thinking about these little mini move tasks, I want you to do it gently. So have a gentle focus around you and a kind focus. So that you're not trying to tackle too much that your body can't handle right now, but something that can be beneficial to yourself and to your space.

So however you're creating your sanctuary right now, it's enough. I'll see you next time.
