Hi, this is Katie, and thank you for joining me on the Creating Your Sanctuary podcast. And this is a podcast about creating those little moments and space that support you. And today I wanted to talk about motivation because this is the time of year where it can be hard. It can be hard. I know in many years past, I would wait for motivation. I would be like, okay, when is that little spark going to come across? When is that idea going to hit?
Am I going to be walking around and all of a sudden I'll be like, yes, now is the time. And it doesn't really come. I mean, sometimes, I have to say sometimes I definitely feel like a spark. I feel like I have an idea of something. And that can be something that leads into something else. But I have to say it's not as frequent as I would imagine it to be or was or what I would like it to be. So I found over the years that it really is something that comes from action.
And the smallest little step that I can take those little mini moves, right that I've been talking about from last time, is actually something that I find motivating. And just like we can find inspiration from watching others, I believe we can be inspired and motivated by ourselves. And sometimes it takes that tiny little step to actually be like, on the outside of yourself, watching yourself and going, Wow, look at you go, or having a conversation with yourself and saying, Wow, you go, you got this, you got this. And I think the more that we procrastinate, the more that we're just like waiting and, and going, you know what, maybe I'll try this tomorrow. It doesn't feel like the day today to do that. And I get it being chronically ill, there are days where it's not a good idea. Whatever that goal that intention that you have, it's just not the right time.
Because timing is, is really important when you're taking steps. So I'm not trying to minimize any of that. You could be going through a really sad time in your life or depressive episode that is just lingering. And that's probably not the time. But there's going to be days that you feel a bit lighter, a bit more capacity, more energy. And there's going to be those days that come that you feel a little lighter, and you feel a little more possibility, and you feel less a little less heavy. Even with all the stuff that's going on around us, which is heavy, it's very heavy.
I'm not trying to dismiss that at all. But I do believe there are mornings that I know I wake up and I'm like, Oh, why don't I consider this? And when there's the thought of a possibility, when there's a possibility of tackling the next thing on your list, or tackling that goal for the first time in the year, it's okay that maybe you haven't touched it for the first month or a couple months, maybe it's a goal that's going to occur later on in the year. And now isn't the time. So getting the timing right for you is going to rely a lot on your intuition of how you're feeling. And when you do feel a little inkling, a little something saying, Hmm, is is today the possible day? Or maybe there is a deadline looming, and you found a rest day and took some rest.
And then the next day, you're like, Okay, because I took that rest, I am able to take the next steps. And try. Because motivation is a lot about just trying. And you're going to gain a lot of information from that, right, you're going to see if you're on the right path, if it's the right step to take, if it's you need to gather more information, like just trying will will gain a lot of information. And then seeing again, seeing yourself taking that next step, even if it's a step will be motivating to go wait, I I'm starting down the path. Now I'm getting this done. Those actions can create energy and clarity and forward momentum.
It's something that's really important to pay attention to. And seeing if if one little mini move can be done that day, that might be inspiring enough for you. So think about motivation as the result, and not the requirement to take those first steps. So remember, however, you're creating your sanctuary right now. It's enough. I'll see you next time.
