Chronic disease continues to be the thing that plagues our health, whether we're talking about diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, heart failure, coronary artery disease, on and on and on. Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. These are the things that we are now seeing in our lives. And as we get into this new year, we're gonna sit and we're gonna talk about what it really takes to take control of your health, to take control of your blood sugars, and how we can decrease the amount of medications that we're taking. And just like that we are back. Happy New Year y'all. Happy New Year and welcome back to the show man. I have been so excited to get back here, so excited to get back here. It is 2024, 2024. New Year, new you. If you've been with us, you know that I have been so excited about talking about this new year that we are in. There is so much that we could talk about, but I want you to know that as we get into this year, we are shooting for the stars Health. In the last season, we talked about the war for your health. That's where we were. We continue now talking about what we're gonna do as we move into this new season. It is sky's limit. There is no place that we won't go. Chronic disease continues to be the thing that plagues our health, whether we're talking about diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, heart failure, coronary artery disease, on and on and on. Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. These are the things that we are now seeing in our lives and, as we get into this new year, we are going to uncover. We are going to peel back. We're gonna roll away all of the dross. We're gonna roll away all those things that you're hearing that people are talking about. How to do this, how to lose weight, how to improve your blood sugar, how to deal with your diabetes. We're gonna sit and we're gonna talk about what it really takes to take control of your health, to take control of your blood sugars, and how we can decrease the amount of medications that we're taking. That's right y'all. You heard me say it. How can we decrease the amount of medications that we're talking, that we're taking? Diabetes continues to be a pandemic-sized disease. If you look around the world, we're talking about over 400 million between 430 and 460 million people around the around the world and in this United States alone, over 37 million. We've got over 88 million that are heading to diabetes. We're talking about pre-diabetes. We've got millions of people that are overweight. They tell me, by 2050, that more than 50% of the people in the United States will be obese. We've got to deal with it and here, as we get into this new season, that's what we're gonna be talking about.
Dwain Woode:New year, new you y'all Over the course of the next several weeks, right, and in fact, the course of this year, that's our theme New year, new you and we are going to be doing a lot of things, a lot of discussions about what that means and how we go about making sure that the new year doesn't cause us to stay in the old us, but that we have a new life, that we have a new process, that we have a new way, that we're gonna be doing things right. So that's where we're heading as we go through the year. I want you to make sure that you are spending time and you are really digging in. I don't want this to just be a show that you come on, that you listen and then you take the stuff and you put it on the shelf. So what are the first steps to a healthier you? Because, as we get into the new year, we want to know what are the first steps that we're gonna do and how does that set us up for what we have to do?
Dwain Woode:Going forward, and the formula for success is this y'all education, empowerment and encouragement. And so here on the channel, we do all of those. We educate. So, as we go through the year, as we go through each of the shows, you will be learning information. We'll be talking about things that you need to know, different perspectives, different ideas, different ways that the body works. So you're gonna be educated. The empowerment these are the tools that we're gonna give you, the tools that we're gonna use as we go through the year, as we go through the shows. Right, I'm gonna present you with tools, with things that you can use, practical steps that you can use to begin working towards the life you want, creating the new you, creating a space where you can be successful with your health. And then encouragement, and the encouragement comes from the community, the community that we are building, the community that we are growing, the community that you are a part of. So the triple E formula for success educating, empowering and encouraging that is the framework that we're gonna be using as we move through the year as a part of the community, that encouraging part. That means that you are taking an active part in what we're doing here on the channel, that you are coming, that you are engaging, that you are sharing what successes that you've had so that the rest of the community can be successful, that we can be encouragement.
Dwain Woode:Encouraging, because I'm gonna tell you, there are some times, y'all, there are some times when you're gonna get discouraged as we go through the year. I would love to tell you that everything's gonna be smooth sailing, but there are gonna be some times when you're like, oh man, do I have got to do that? I don't want to do that. I don't want to think about blood sugar anymore, I just want to be like everybody else. I don't want to be different. And so during those times, the community is going to be what helps us get through right. So we'll talk, we'll talk more about that as we go right. So triple E formula for success Educate, empower, encourage, educate, empower, encourage.
Dwain Woode:So then, what are the first steps? What are the first steps that we have towards the new you, towards the new me, what do I do? And the steps, y'all the steps are similar to what we do, what we say, for anything that we want to change. And the first thing is understanding, understanding the why. Do you believe that? And do you know what I mean when I say understanding the why? That is, what are the things that are driving you? What is the thing that is making you want to be here? What is the motivation? It's important to know what it is.
Dwain Woode:Now let me tell you a story. You've heard part of this story already. I at one time was 280 pounds, about 279, 280 pounds. Right, see, I, even as I said that, I took away that. I took away that one pound I was. I was in a room and I was talking to a patient. I got up to leave the room and as I got up to leave the room, she started crying. I turned around to find out you know what's going on. And this was a woman who had been struggling with weight and I forgot what her BMI was, but it was, it was, it was high. I said you know, hey, what's going on? Because we had struggled with her to get her blood sugars under control and finally the blood sugars were there, we had gotten it. It was below seven. Yay, excited, right, that's what we wanted. And she said Dr Wood. She said nobody ever talks about my weight. She said I'm happy that the blood sugars are under control. I'm happy that that we were able to do that and I'm excited because that part of my health is better. But but what about my weight? And I sat down and it started talking and as I was getting ready to to uh, for this, for this season, for this show, for the things that we're going to talk about, I started thinking about myself. I started thinking about myself and I went back to that story and what she said to me I'm happy that the blood sugars are better. She said, but but I want to take care of my weight.
Dwain Woode:Now, notice, I, as the endocrinologist, I was excited to get her to the blood sugar goal and while she wanted that, she was more concerned about Her weight. She was concerned about the effect that that had on her ability to live her life. Because, she said to me, she said when I get dressed at night, I don't turn the lights on. She said I hurry up, get out of the shower, I put my clothes on and I get into the bed, because if I look in the mirror, I wonder who is that creature? And that's the word she used. Who's that creature that's staring back at me?
Dwain Woode:I've talked to people and I am intent, right, because we've got these protocols that we do, we've got these goals that we have for our patients and I'm intent on getting them to that goal. And I had someone say to me recently, I'm here, and I said, hey, what else do we need to be, what else do we need to do? And they said, I'm good. I'm good where I am, and so, as we are moving through this new season, as we are moving into our new you, what's important is that we know the why. Why do we want to be healthy? Why do we want to control blood sugars? Why do we want to decrease our insulin? Why do we want to decrease the amount of medication that we're taking?
Dwain Woode:I had to take a serious look at the reasons why I was not doing what I needed to do to control my health, and we're going to share more about that. We're going to talk about it. But what's your? Why? Do you have a young child that you want to be around for? Do you have a husband, a wife that you guys have been saving up for years? You've been working, you've been at the grind, and it's now finally time for you guys to get ready to retire. And you're looking at your health and you say, wait a minute. I've been working all this time, I've been putting in all this time to get this money to build this house, to build this, whatever it is, and now that I'm ready to enjoy it, it doesn't look like I'm going to enjoy it because my health is not where it needs to be, my weight is not where it needs to be, my blood sugars are out of control.
Dwain Woode:Your doctor may have said to you that, hey, if you don't get better control of this blood sugar, you're going to get kidney disease and blindness and you're going to lose a leg and whatever. They've told you. It's a health concern, it's an emergency. Now Somebody out there has to have a surgery and we have this all the time. People come into us and they can't get the surgery that they need because their blood sugars are out of control.
Dwain Woode:And you may be saying I just don't want to take this medication, I don't want to be on this much medication because y'all, all medications have side effects. I love medications for what they do, for the function that they serve. I could not do my job on a daily basis without medication. Let me just say that. But all medications have side effects, and so anytime we could limit the amount of medications that we're on, that's always a good thing. So what's your why? What's your why? What's what's your why?
Dwain Woode:And then, like I just said, build community. If you want to go somewhere, go alone, but if you want to go far, go with somebody else, and that y'all is community. This space is a community that we're building. I'm going to tell you there is, there is a dearth of places where people can go and just be honest and open. I've had people come to me and say, look, I can't tell anybody else in my circle that I'm diabetic. I don't want to. I'm ashamed. I was ashamed when I was diagnosed with diabetes and for a long time, as the endocrinologist, y'all, I didn't tell anybody. I struggled on my own.
Dwain Woode:The community that we're building is a place where you can come and ask questions Right, and you'll find out more about some other things that we're going to be doing but a place where you can get information, where you can begin learning. Okay, what do I need to do? Because the more information you have, right that educating part, the more information you have, the better you can make choices, the better decisions you get to make about your health and how you're going to take care of it. In your circle. Find those people, find that friend, find that counselor, find that exercise partner, find that person that you're going to pull into your community, that you're going to allow to speak into you, because there are going to be some tough times that we are heading for, as we talk, as we decide the things that we want to do, there are going to be some tough times, some decisions you're going to have to make. Now. You're going to need somebody there to say look, first of all to hold you accountable. Wait a minute. You said last week that this is what you're going to do. Did you do that thing yet? And you've got to give that person permission to speak into you, to speak into your life.
Dwain Woode:Often, when I see people in the office, you know husband and wife and I make the husband put his hand on let's assume that he's the, he's the diabetic make him put his hand on his wife's shoulder and say to his wife or if it's a husband wife, I say to your husband honey, thank you for being concerned about me. I give you permission to ask me about my blood sugar. It has to be an acknowledgement. And then I have the wife or the other person who's not the diabetic put their hand on the other show and say, honey, I know, managing diabetes, your diabetes, is difficult. And I say to them the person who's not diabetic, I say, when you say those words, after you say those words, then you could say whatever you want. After you have acknowledged that it's difficult to manage diabetes, then you can ask about blood sugar. But don't just roll up on me and say, did you check your blood sugar today? Don't roll up on me and ask me, why are you eating that? Don't come to me and say, hey, isn't that the second cookie you ate? Yes, it is the second cookie. Maybe it's the third cookie that I ate. But say to me honey, I know that it's hard to manage your diabetes. And then you could say maybe we shouldn't eat that one cookie. I am much more receptive after you've said to me I know it's difficult, so anyway.
Dwain Woode:So we're building that community. The community is very, very, very y'all very, very important, right? So, number one know your why? Number two build a community? It is find that person, find that group, find that space that you're going to be in as we move through the next several weeks. As a matter of fact, as we move through the year and I'm going to give you a challenge here in a minute that we're going to start tonight. Right, we're going to start the challenge tonight.
Dwain Woode:Next, we want to identify, identify potential challenges. Often, we don't succeed, not because we don't have a plan. We don't succeed because we don't anticipate challenges, and this isn't anything that we do, right? So, whether you are building a house or you're you're, you're taking a trip, whether you're in school, whatever it is, if you don't anticipate challenges, then things can become very, very difficult. You got to make sure that you say hey, I know that there are going to be some things out there that I'm going to have to take care of. There are going to be some things that come up that I'm going to have to say wait a minute, let me take some time, let me figure this out. So begin thinking about that.
Dwain Woode:What are the challenges that you anticipate? Is it the fact that your entire family eats a certain way and and now you feel you're going to be different Is it that you are not knowledgeable about cooking or things to eat, or challenges, or you're so busy, right, you just grab anything that you can get. Maybe it's a financial constraint. What are the concerns? What are some things that you chat that you think are going to be challenges? What are some things put in the chat right now? What are some things that you think people will have challenges with? It may not be yours, but now let's begin, let's talk, let's begin saying hey, what are some of the things that that people may find that they are challenged by? Right, I'm going to tell you, one of the challenges for me is going to be fatigue, cause, when I'm fatigued, when I'm tired, yeah, the plans that I have, they kind of go right, they kind of go back.
Dwain Woode:There Is it? Is it going to be that there is a, a certain time of the year, certain function, certain whatever that you do, there's a certain behavior that you have, there's a certain stressful event or person or location that, whenever you are there, you're triggered. So we're going to identify what are those potential challenges. So so here, here's another one for me, here's another one for me. So you're, if you're out there, you're from my office. Yeah, I'm talking about you guys. So in the office, right, so I'm I'm an endocrinologist, but the amount of food that comes through my office, because we celebrate birthdays, we have pharmaceutical reps who come through that take us to lunch, we've got our tea meeting where we eat, obviously right, and so there's always some food, and then I can go down to the cafeteria with my badge right and just swipe it at the hospital free food, I can just swipe the badge. So whatever I want, so I run down there, grab something, so. So those situations are going to be my challenge, the questions they're going to be they are, and so one of the things that I've started doing is I don't go to the physician's lounge. I started that a while ago. I don't go to the physician's lounge.
Dwain Woode:So, as he says, having a lot of snacks and sweets at home for our family members Yep, that's going to be a big one, that's going to be a big one. And then needing an easy, fast dinner, which is sometimes not the most nutritious, exactly, right, because there are all these things that that that happen. Okay, all these things that happen, all these events like, right now, my, my son is at it as a basketball game. He's not playing. So he went to watch his friends, but when he was playing, I mean. So he played basketball. Let's see back in the fall, I think he had a game every Wednesday night, so every Wednesday night, so starting in October I believe, and those, those every Wednesday night games ended and I mean they're going to be starting up, but when, when we went, right, those were some late nights and if you remember, I did a series last last fall. We ended the year with two series, right, we were doing the war for your health and we were doing the Q4 winning moves, and so I was up late at night doing those. And guess what you do when you're up late at night? Right, you eat.
Dwain Woode:The next thing we want to do is we want to set realistic goals. Set realistic goals and we'll talk more about those smart goals that people that you may have heard people talk about. So, smart goals, smart goals are those goals where we want them to be. We want we want to have a structure. We want to have a structure for how we go about looking at the things that we want to do in our lives, so that we're not just shooting in the air, right, that we have some actual, tangible things that we're going to, that we're looking at. Okay so, smart goals, and that's the acronym. We'll talk more about what the acronym acronym is, and then the next thing that we want to do is we want to document anything that you want to modify, anything you want to change. You have to document. So what are the first steps? What are the first steps? Number one understand your why. Build a community that's going to help you through the process. What are some potential challenges? Begin looking at those, set realistic goals and then we want to document it. Right, we want to document it. So now let's come back and let's have this, let's talk. So our goal for the year.
Dwain Woode:We're talking specifically to people who are out there, who have chronic disease Right, we're talking to people with diabetes Right, type two diabetes. We're talking about adults with type two diabetes and we'll pull some more people in in a minute and I'll explain that. Right so, people who have diabetes, people who are pre diabetic, who are interested in decreasing the amount of medication that they're taking for their diabetes, who are interested in getting better blood sugar control, who are interested in becoming people who are diet and lifestyle controlled diabetic, who are interested in decreasing their insulin, right. So all these people right now are people who fall into diabetes and pre diabetes range. Now, for those of you who are watching, who are listening, who have high blood pressure, who have obesity, who have high cholesterol, non alcoholic, fatty, fatty liver Right, who are, who want to be healthy, who have coronary artery disease, here's the thing Insulin plays a part in so many of those things, right, insulin plays a part in a lot of those. So, as we talk about so as we talk about the disease process of diabetes, if we can decrease the amount of insulin that your body produces or the amount of insulin that you take for your diabetes, look at all the things that we're affecting. They're on the screen right there. So high hypertension, hyperlipidemia, coronary artery disease, polycystic ovarian syndrome syndrome, obesity, non alcoholic, fatty, fatty liver disease on naffal D Right Metabolic syndrome. So that's where we're heading for this year.
Dwain Woode:My challenge to everyone right now we're going to talk about some specifics here in a minute my challenge to everyone is tonight, right, right now, here on this show. If you're watching this on the replay, use this moment as the moment where you decide that this is going to be the year you may not have done anything in last month, in December, right, you may not have thought about OK, what am I going to do for my health? Let this be the starting point. I'm not talking about setting a New Year's resolution. I'm not talking about setting. You know, we come up with all these lists of things that we do over the over, the, over the holidays, and we get started and by you know what February, they say March most people have fallen by the side. No, that's not what I'm talking about.
Dwain Woode:We are planning to be very deliberate in our discussion about how we do the things that we're going to do. Is it going to be easy? No, it's not. I'm just going to say it. Is it going to be easy? No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. Now, here's the thing. Here's the thing. You are going to have a lot of people talk to you and they're going to be a lot of discussion about do this in 10 days, do this in 30 days? Right, lose this weight in 15 days, whatever. Ok, 30 days, one day, whatever. What I want you to commit to is a lifestyle of health, because the things that I want you to do, these are things that I want you to be able to sustain for your rest of your life.
Dwain Woode:I saw in the, I saw in the chat there, and let me back up. I say tech troublemaker. He said I need to lose 30 pounds this year. I've started back walking. Ok, sorry about walking off, but I am back. Ok, two months ago, right. So he said he needs to lose some weight.
Dwain Woode:So the things that we're talking about, I'm not talking about losing, losing 30 pounds, losing 20 pounds, you know, in the next six months, and then I see you two years from now. And now you've put on 50 pounds. No, no, no, no. Might as well, stay where you are Right, because that up and down that we sometimes do, that has ramifications on how the body signaling mechanisms. Right, there's this, this, this, this reset point in our hypothalamus that we, that we affect by the weight loss, and we want to be deliberate on how we do that.
Dwain Woode:So, number one, I want you to commit that. Hey, this year, when I watch this show, when I watch this episode is my jumping off point To what I'm going to do for my health for the rest of the year and beyond. Ok, so that's my challenge. So, new year, new you. Now, within the year. There are things that we're going to be doing Right and we'll we'll get. We'll get to that here in just a minute.
Dwain Woode:There are things that we're going to be doing that will set us up for success. That will set us up for success. The first of those things is documentation. So, number one, you're making a commitment right now. You're making a commitment so for this show, for this episode, that you are going to take charge of your health. And, number two, you're making a commitment to document what you are doing, wherever you are heading. If we're going to know if we're successful, we've got to document. We've got to document. And I'm going to in and it's not up yet Sometimes, sometimes in the next few days, I'm going to put up on the channel in the show notes.
Dwain Woode:I'm going to put a document that you can use. You can download it. It's a PDF. It's a free PDF you can use to document the things that that we're going to be discussing. The final thing that I want you to do is I want you to now, as, as you're thinking through the show, as you're thinking through the year, I want you to write in a book somewhere.
Dwain Woode:I want you to write your why? Why am I doing this? Why do I want a new me? Why am I interested in decreasing my medication? Why do I want to control my blood sugar? Why do I want to control my weight and don't just let that be surface? My wife does this thing in her for her coaching clients. It's called seven levels deep. Seven layers deep, I believe. And on when I did the Q4 winning moves, we did the five why's?
Dwain Woode:Whenever you have a problem, you want to ask why did the problem happen? What caused it? For instance, we had the power go out. We had not the power, but we had the internet go out in our office. So we didn't have internet, and so the internet went out. And so I'm like, okay, why did it go out? Well, it went out because another company was putting in fiber optic down the road and they nicked the line for my service provider, right.
Dwain Woode:So that's the second. Why did it go out? Because they nicked the thing. Why did we not have, why did we not have resources for connecting to the internet? Well, we had a backup system, because we have two internet services, two service providers. And so the question is we have two service providers. They could have nicked one, but they didn't make both of them. Well, I didn't have internet because, even though I had a second backup, I never test the backup. I didn't have failover testing, so I never knew. I didn't know that the second system didn't work because, I mean, other system doesn't go down that often and so I didn't know it didn't work. And why did I not know it didn't work? Because I didn't have the protocol to do that. So notice the lack of service. Initially looked like it was just the fact that they nicked the line, but the real thing was that I didn't have a protocol.
Dwain Woode:So why do you want to lose weight? Well, I wanted to lose weight because everybody says it's healthy. Well, why? Well, I have high blood pressure, I have high cholesterol, I have diabetes, I have PCOS, I have metabolic syndrome, I have Nephel D, I have right, all the things. Why is that important to me? Because I want to be healthy. Why is being healthy important to you? Because I want to live a long time. Why do you want to live a long time? Because I have children. I have young children that I want to take care of. So I don't want this to be just service. So why I want you to write those out. And if you are interested, if you are willing let me not say interested, because it should be interesting if you're willing I would love to have a space where maybe sometime someone comes on the show and we can talk as we are going through these different things that we're going to be doing.
Dwain Woode:We talk about the various assignments or the various challenges, the various decisions that we've made so that we can, as a group, grow and encourage each other. So, number one make a decision. Okay, I'm going to take care of my health. Number two begin documenting. So tonight you can document, watched Dr Wood on the first episode of New Year, new you. You can begin documenting that you can document. Number two I have made a decision that, as of this show, as of this moment, I am going to do what it takes to control my blood sugar. I'm going to do what it takes to take charge of my health. And number three, in that same space, I want you to document your why. And I want you to go ahead and do that. Five levels, deep, five why's. Don't just say I want to be healthy, I want you to go deeper. What does that really mean? And we'll come back in another show and we'll talk more about that as we go.
Dwain Woode:Type two adult diabetics this is the space for you. We're working on decreasing the amount of medication we take. Some of you are going to get off of your medication. Some of you are going to decrease it significantly. That's the plan.
Dwain Woode:Now, notice, I'm saying some of you because there's a guy that I saw and I was so excited because we had gotten the A1C down right. A1c was 6.2, I think. And I walked into the room and I was yes, let's do this. And I think he was on a very small amount of medication and I said, hey, over the next three months, I think we can do this. We can be done. And you know what he said to me. He said, yeah, doc, but Christmas is coming up. And he said, over Christmas, you know we talked about this stuff. So notice, medication is a tool we get to decide right. So the goal here is we get to decide if we need to use that tool. We don't want it to be a must, must use. You got to use, you have to be on. How do we decrease the amount of medication as an ancillary to that?
Dwain Woode:There are many of you who are watching. You're not diabetic, you're pre-diabetic. I don't want you to say, hey, this show is not for me, because we're going to be talking about the effects of insulin and for all the pre-diabetics, all the people who have PCOS, all the people who have high blood pressure, all the people who have high cholesterol, all the people who have naffro-D or non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. You have got to listen to this because part of your disease process all the people who have high BMI's part of your disease process is tied into insulin. So, as we're talking about what we're doing for blood sugar and decreasing our insulin resistance, that also helps with your disease. So tell your friends, tell your family, tell them, hey, come on, we're just getting started. We're laying the foundation for what we're going to do as we get through the next months and, ultimately, as we get through the year. So next December, in December, when we have our final show, we want to be able to look back over the course of this year and say, hey, yeah, we've done it. So that is where we're heading.
Dwain Woode:Y'all, we're going to be talking about specific things. So all of you who are out there right, I've said, I've said medication a very, very many times as I went through the show tonight. I want you to get your medications together. I want you to write them on a piece of paper as we come right. We're going to be sharing with each other, and let me I should have done this at the beginning of the show and let me do it now. Right, and we'll kind of say it again and again and again here on the show, on air.
Dwain Woode:I am not giving you specific medical advice for your situation. I am giving you a general framework within which you can have conversations with your physician. For example, I am going to talk about cutting your insulin. I'm going to be talking about some of the medications that we need to get rid of if we are going to work on insulin resistance. I'm going to be talking about some medications that you probably need to talk to your doctor about, starting so that you can get off of insulin. And then we talk about okay, now, how do we get rid of that medication?
Dwain Woode:So, as you're giving the information, I'm only getting a snippet of your um, of your health history as we talk here on the show. That allows me to give some insight, but it does not allow me to say, okay, you go home and do this, the things I tell you to do. I want you to take those things and I want you to go and I want you to talk to your physician and say, hey, this is what I learned from Dr Wood. Okay, how do we implement this in my life? You know, I'm going to give you an example, right? So I have a guy that I see and our last conversation was hey, you're on 50 units of insulin. I'm using 50 as an example. You're on 50 units of insulin. I want you to go home and over the next three weeks, I need that insulin dose to be down to 25. So, notice, I gave him specific information about what I wanted him to do. You're at 50 right now. Over the next few weeks, I needed to be down at 25. And we talked about strategies that he could use to do that. So I want you to be sure that you are having conversations with your healthcare provider. If you are interested in talking to me specifically, you can get to our website and we'll talk about that here in just a minute, where you can have some information.
Dwain Woode:So Theresa's saying and I think I'm going, theresa, I'm going to piece your thing together she says. She said, dr Wood, some of us are not there yet. We're not there where we can be, are able to share our health status with others. And, Theresa, I feel you, I hear you and I know it is a tough thing. I want you to go back and I forgot which show it was, where I showed some pictures of myself, and I'll do that again as we go through the course of the next several months and the course of this year and I'm going to share with you and I'm going to show you what I looked like, what my pictures looked like, and it took me a long time to share. There's a story that I'll tell you as well and even as I'm thinking about the story right now, the pain comes back in that situation. It comes back to me as I begin thinking about it, and we'll share that. It was a young man that I saw in my office and we'll talk here as we go, as you change, as you grow, as you get healthier.
Dwain Woode:We're not just talking about the physical health, the things that we're going to be talking about. It's going to take some mental health as well. Some of us deal with depression, anxiety, fear, imposter syndrome, doubt. Some of us are in some situations, some home life situations, some job situations, some financial situations, and as we go through the year those are going to come front and center. Because we eat as a coping mechanism. It is the last socially acceptable vice. So you can't stand in the corner and shoot up or down a bottle of alcohol, or I guess you can still smoke, but nobody really thinks much when you say, hey, I had a binge last night of ice cream. You're like ha ha ha, right, but the things that drive us to food are things that we're going to have to face if we're going to be successful. So that's where that documentation, that's where the community comes back, comes into play, because those places, those things that we do, we have to be able to deal with them if we're going to be successful and if we're going to continue to be successful.
Dwain Woode:Big point right there, big connection right. That's why I say I don't want to just do something that we're going to do for one month, two months, three months, four months. I want us to begin developing a routine, some habits that we can use for the rest of our lives. So what are the first steps that we use for healthier us? Number one understand our why. Number two we build community. Number three we look for potential challenges. Number four we set realistic goals. And number five we document.

You see, the most recent one that we did there was New Year, new you, new Year, new you. The theme Setting Realistic Health Goals for Diabetic Patients. So, right in line with what we're doing here and prior to that, we talked about mindful eating, the heart, the art of being present at the table while we're eating, and then the clinical perspective of stress-induced eating, emotional connection to eating beyond the numbers. So all of those things are out there. Make sure that you get there when you come back next week.
