The Rising Beyond Podcast
If you're trying to protect your children while navigating an abusive ex, this podcast is for you. Because leaving the relationship didn't end the abuse, and no one prepared you for what came next.
The Rising Beyond Podcast is for protective mothers navigating the overwhelming reality of sharing children with someone who continues patterns of manipulation, coercive control, or emotional abuse after separation. Join Sybil Cummin, licensed professional counselor, who has spent the last decade helping survivors and their children navigate this incredibly difficult chapter. Every week, we share trauma-informed education, nervous system insights, protective parenting strategies, and honest conversations about family court, post-separation abuse, and healing, so you can feel more confident, more grounded, and better equipped to protect both your children and yourself.
Whether you're in the middle of family court, struggling with parenting alongside someone who continues patterns of control, or simply trying to become the parent you want to be after everything you've survived, you'll find validation, practical guidance, and hope here.

Ep 101: The Protective Parent’s Guide to Parenting with Guest Robyn Gobbel, MSW
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
If you have ever felt powerless to help your children as they behave in ways that let you know that they are hurting or scared inside, this episode is for you.
Parenting is hard even when you are not having to manage all that comes with post separation abuse; which includes the guilt and shame of what your children are experiencing.
So, what can you do to help them and parent in a way that will build their resilience and foster your connection?
I am so honored to share this conversation with Robyn Gobbel, MSW on the neuroscience behind our children’s behaviors, the differences between physical safety and felt safety, and specific strategies that you can use to parent children with big baffling behaviors. We touch on how to understand your reactions to your children and how to regulate yourself with compassion.
Robyn Gobbel, MSW, has 20 years of practice in family and child therapy experience,
specializing in complex trauma, attachment, and adoption. She integrated her diverse clinical training to offer an attachment-rich, sensory-sensitive, and relational neurosciences supported healing environment for children and families.
