Fitness Trackers: Are They Worth It?

Barpath Fitness Season 1 Episode 63

In this week's episode we take a deep dive into fitness trackers.

We go over some of the most popular fitness trackers, including Whoop, Oura Ring, the Apple Watch, and FitBit, and give a breakdown of all of their specs, which are pretty similar for the most part.

After we talk about all of the tech, we discuss the benefits of wearing a fitness tracker, and how having objective measurements to look at trends over time can be helpful in determining your habit patterns. We also talk about the downside of fitness tracking with a device.

The majority of fitness tracking measurements aren’t 100% accurate. The percentage of variability fluctuates depending on which stat a device can track, but the stat that’s the most variable is the calories burned measurement. We go into how fitness trackers work, and why these devices' calorie counters are so far off.  We discuss heart rate variability, respiratory rate tracking, and more.

We discuss the benefits and drawbacks of wearing a fitness tracking device.
