Parenting is hard. Let's face it, we've all thought at one point or another that we have done so much harm to our kids that we have ruined them. Things seem so impossible and feel too far gone to heal, redeem or fix. But that's just not the truth friend. That is exactly why this years Mother's Day episode is with Abbey Wedgeworth. She wrote a book called Help, I'm Ruining My Kids!: A Gospel Guide for the Mom Who's Desperate for Change. Does that sound like something you need in your life too?
Abbey is a Bible teacher, writer and homeschool mom of three young boys, is focus on helping mothers lift their eyes off their mistakes and anxieties and onto Christ. Abbey speaks honestly about shame, shortcomings, and the fear of "messing up" our kids. She knows from experience that fear is often compounded for homeschooling parents, but her message is simple and hope-filled, nothing is beyond redemption in motherhood.
The topic of identity, worth, redemption and so much more are covered in this episode and it's perfect for the mom, grandma, aunt that longs to not mess up the kids in their lives. I'm so thankful for Abbey and her words, they are so timely! Enjoy this episode and PLEASE share it with a mom you know needs to hear this message right now!
Conversation Highlights:
- We overestimate our impact on our kids, what you do matters but it’s not all that matters
- What you do does have an impact so in light of that how can you make spiritual progress? (more in episode!)
- Our reference point can be ourself, our kids or Jesus, when it’s anything but Jesus we will feel despaired, unworthy & defeated
- When you’re relaxed in the providence of God, the role you play feels more like an invitation than a burden
