Truth Breaks Through Lies: What To Do When The Truth Doesn’t Feel True with Grace McCready
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
There are times in our lives when the truth just doesn't feel true. Have you ever been there? You know the truth, you've heard the truth and you even believe the truth... but it still doesn't feel true. It's such a hard mental battle to be in, but it's a battle that can be won!
This week's guest knows all about this battle, especially as she walked the hard road of living with an eating disorder for many years. Grace now shares on this topic to young women who are in the same place she used to be. Grace McCready is a writer and speaker who is passionate about encouraging young women through personal stories and scriptural truths. She is the author of Real Recovery & The Ring by Spring Ruse, and she blogs at Tizzie's Tidbits of Truth. She is also a full-time writer/editor for a Christian ministry.
Conversation Highlights:
- Learning to accept how God created our bodies is important
- How do we put God back in his rightful place in our lives and not put things above him?
- John 8:32 - the truth sets us free in every area of our lives
- When we stop to remember what is true about who God says we are, we can recognize lies easier
- Eating disorders are rooted in lies from the devil and we need to treat them with seriousness
- Recovery requires replacing these lies with God’s truth, not just managing symptoms
- Recovery is a slow, daily choice, not a single “lightbulb moment” - it involves rewriting expectations & consistently applying truth, even when it doesn’t “feel” true
- Daily exposure to truth found in scripture rewires the mind
- Write down the lies you’re believing and the truth from scripture that combats that lie and read them over and over
- Take the pressure off of yourself that your healing and recovery have to look a certain way - continue to lean into God’s Word and search for what he says about it
