Libya has lurched from crisis to crisis in the aftermath of the death of former leader Muammar Qaddhafi in 2011 (during the so-called 'Arab Spring'). Several terrorist groups, among other actors, have been carrying out acts of violence to exert control over the nation. One of the most famous terrorist attacks was that on September 11, 2012 against the US Consulate and CIA annex in Benghazi, killing four Americans.
