If there is one conflict I have tried to stay away from, because it is so intractable, it is Israel-Palestine. The two have been at each other's throats for decades and terrorist attacks have been carried out on each other's territory by individuals and groups in both Palestine and Israel. And yet, probably in response to the massive suffering and starvation in Gaza, several Western governments are considering recognising a Palestinian state, including Canada (and France, the UK and Portugal). Critics, among whom are the US and Israel, say this is a 'reward' for terrorism. Is it really?
