 In 2019 then US President Trump stated that ISIS had been 'totally defeated'. While it was true that the so-called 'Caliphate' had for all intents and purposes been destroyed, the group was anything but gone. It is still very active in Iraq and Syria and has spawned multiple 'provinces' around the world and 'inspired' lone actors to carry out attacks in its name. What are we to make of all this? I talk with a terrorism specialist on these matters from the Soufan Group.
