China is a big country - really big! It may no longer have the most people - it seems to have been passed by India in that regard - but it still exerts a lot of power and influence. Within the country itself there are many ethnic groups, although the Han dominate, and the government wants to subject minorities to majoritarian rule. Part of this effort involves forcing children to attend Mandarin language schools and forget this culture. And these efforts are taking place not just in the PRC. I talk to a Canadian Tibetan activist on Chinese TNR.
