Ep 239: Why Gratitude Should Be Your Top Business Strategy
===
Brandi: [00:00:00] Today's episode we are talking all about It's called Gratitude and how appropriate as we are coming up in just a few days in the U. S. on Thanksgiving. And Thanksgiving, y'all, is one of my favorite holidays. Yes, I love the food. It's the one holiday that I cook every day. Everything from scratch and kick my husband out and, but more than that, I love that it's just this time for us to be surrounded and have gratitude and really sit down as a family and be like, what are we grateful for?
And we do incorporate this in our everyday life, but I really think there's a different meaning at Thanksgiving. Like it's solely focused on that. It's. It's solely focused about coming around the dining room table and celebrating just family and relationships and gratitude. And I just absolutely freaking love Thanksgiving.
It is, and I love gratitude. It is [00:01:00] only, Appropriate that this whole episode is how do we infuse more gratitude into our business on a day to day basis? Not just when we're at the end of the year or the beginning of the year and we're thinking about that So if you want to infuse more gratitude into your business and in your daily life This is going to be the episode for you So let's jump on in.
Welcome back to another episode of the Serve Scale Soar podcast. My name is Brandi Mowles and I am your host. And if you are ready to start grow or scale an ad management business, you are in the right place. But my friend today is truly for anyone, no matter if you have a business or you don't, whatever service you're offering today's episodes for you.
Cause we're digging into how do we I'm going to [00:02:00] infuse gratitude throughout our business and how do I do it at a million dollar per year business? How can you do it if you're just starting out? How does this also go into our life and how can we infuse more of this into our day to day? Because one thing I know is that when you infuse gratitude into your day or day, Your day to day life, your business will grow.
It's hard not to grow when you're at a state and a frequency of gratitude. It's really hard not to hit your goals when we're operating from that frequency. And so I'm excited to jump into this topic, show you how I can incorporate this and how you can too. So let's jump into this week's episode.
So before we actually dive into what is gratitude or how we can put gratitude in our business, we really need to understand what gratitude is. Gratitude is an emotion and it's a state of being. And and it's something that's so cool. In psychology today, they said [00:03:00] gratitude is either a trait or a state of being.
As a trait, an individual practices gratitude as part of daily life, and it's considered a character strength. It is important to remember that gratitude is a strength that can be enhanced with awareness and attention. Practice when a person experiences the motion from someone expressing gratitude for them, it is referred to a state.
So we can either have it as a trait or a state of being and in our life we can put this in either way. And so when a client comes to you and tells you how like amazing you are, that is being a state there, someone is expressing gratitude to you and you are grateful for that. A trait is when you can practice it on a daily basis.
So when we get into ways that I incorporate gratitude in my business, I'm going to show you how I do it as a trait and how I can be in it as a state. And so [00:04:00] when we have this gratitude and we understand that it can come from two different places, it shows us like, Ooh. Do I need to focus on how can I experience gratitude in outward ways, or how can I experience gratitude from within?
And the cool thing is, even if you're not getting gratitude from the external, you can be in a state of gratitude at any time because it's within you. And so it doesn't only have to be people coming to us telling us how amazing we are. Because let's be real. That doesn't always happen. And if we only relied on the other people to fill our cup with gratitude, we wouldn't be as grateful as we can on a day to day basis.
But because we are capable of having that trait within us of gratitude, you can tap into the frequency of gratitude at any point. And I will share with you when you start doing this on a day to day basis, your business will grow. Your life will [00:05:00] grow. You will feel. Full and happy and just a different energy and when you come from that frequency people can feel it your Discovery calls your potential clients the way you show up on social Whatever it is, you will come at a different energy and people will respond to that So I just want to go over a few benefits of being grateful and sharing gratitude on a daily basis in our life and in our business, because I think it's really important to understand why we need to do this.
What are the benefits? Because if you don't understand why, then what the heck are you like, there's no point in you implementing it. So when I looked up with positive psychology. com under the gratitude with career benefits,, they gave us some different ways that gratitude can help us in our work.
And then I'm going to switch and we're going to look at a Harvard study on ways that it will benefit us in our life. So it makes us more effective in business. So it [00:06:00] makes us better at working with our clients, motivating people, mentorship, coaching. And so that is going to be when we become better at what we do because we're in a state of gratitude, we're going to get that external gratitude more.
Your clients will come to you more and tell you like, Oh my gosh, I love that you're doing this. I love the way you're communicating. I love blah, blah, blah. And so when we have that or people will start telling you like, Oh, I love your social media content and help me so much. So it's going to make us better and more effective at doing our job.
It also reduces impatience and improves decision making abilities. So when you are coming from a place of gratitude, you are actually better. At making decisions because you're not making them from a place of worry, stress, needing, you're making them from a place of clear headedness and knowing [00:07:00] the direction that you're going.
Also, You get out of this impatience. Like I need this now. I need it now. Why am I not landing clients now? I need money. I need need need need need need when we get into that Frequency, it's really hard to get anything that we think we need but when we come from a gratitude of i'm always provided for and I know That today i'm sending out five connections and i'm going to connect with these people and i'm going to help serve them in a bigger way I'm going to show them how their business can improve with ads I'm, so glad that I was able to get five connections today Instead of being like, Oh, I only got five connections today.
No one responded to me. Why am I not growing faster? That's a place of impatience, not gratitude. And so there's the difference. It also helps us find meaning in our work. Like sometimes I know once you've been in business a long time, you're [00:08:00] like, why am I doing this? But if every day you came from a place of today, I get to serve my clients.
I get to help them. Impact other people. I get to help them grow as I grow. That's very different than being like, oh, why do I do this? I'm so bored. I can't believe I'm still doing this six years later, just teaching people how to run ads. No. Today, I'm so grateful that we have new students joining.
I'm so grateful that we just helped someone land a 1, 500 client. That will change their life. I'm so grateful that I helped a client set up an SLO funnel. So now that they can impact so many more families with what they're doing, we have to come from a place of gratitude because it helps us find meaning in our work, especially when you've been doing this for a while.
It also helps reduce turnover. So when we're all, we don't always have to [00:09:00] be in a state, but when we focus on being in a state of gratitude more than not we're not going to have clients turn over as much. They're going to want to stay with us. Even if we're not hitting their goals, the frequency that you're bringing, people don't want to lose that energy because so many people are running from low energy, low frequency, not in a state of gratitude.
And subconsciously, we all want to be happier. We all want to have positivity and there's not enough of that. So when you can be that beacon, you can be that light and have that gratitude. You're going to attract clients that want to stay with you because you were that safe haven for them. And then lastly, it improves your work related mental health and reduces stress.
When you can come from a place of gratitude, you're going to be less stressful. Things are going to happen and you're not going to instantly go to doomsday. You may have that moment and that's totally fine, but when we come from then on the back end of that is, I'm so grateful that [00:10:00] happened because I learned from that.
This is something I needed to learn. Then it reduces stress. And stress then has a negative effect on our life, our personal life, our family, our children. And so when we can practice gratitude in our business, Not only is it going to help our business grow, but it's also going to help our life. So then now we know reasons why we want to do it for our business.
But let's talk about just a few reasons really quick that practicing gratitude is really good for our personal life.
Harvard showed that expressing gratitude is associated with numerous health benefits such as improved sleep quality, reduced depression, better cardiovascular health, and it increases your overall happiness and life satisfaction. satisfaction, which can improve your relationships, whether that's with your kids or with your family.
So when we look at that, it's Oh my goodness, look at all the benefits. If we [00:11:00] just incorporate these little things that we can add in to our life, that literally take five minutes a day, five minutes of gratitude. That's all you need. And we can have better health. We can have better business. We can feel better.
Like the benefits are like, why wouldn't you do this five minutes a day? And you could have all these benefits. Why wouldn't we make this a daily practice? This is more important to me than working out. So these are some of the reasons why we want to have gratitude as a daily practice. But now let's jump into the practical, like how do I do this, Brandi?
How do I incorporate gratitude into my daily routine?
So now let's talk about the ways that we can incorporate gratitude in our business. And i'm going to share with you the two ways I incorporate it And then i'll go over some other ways that you can at the end But my two gratitude rituals that I have that I do each day is one I Started this several months ago And it says, it's my [00:12:00] Today I'm Celebrating journal.
It's just a notebook that I found, and like a blank notebook. And I write in there each day the date. And I write in there, Today I'm Celebrating. Dot dot dot and I write all the things I'm celebrating and I always make sure that I get at least five and these aren't The biggest things in the world. I actually focus not on the big wins, but the like just like things I'm grateful for and so I'll say today.
I'm grateful that Yesterday we had five new Instagram followers today. I'm grateful that we had 60 people Show up to our live training. Today, I'm grateful that I had a sales call scheduled. And this isn't about What happened on the backend? So I'm not like, Oh, I'm so grateful that I had 60 people show up and 10 of them purchased.
It's not about that. It's about, wow, I got to impact 60 people today. And I used to come at this as man, we had 120 register. Only 60 people [00:13:00] showed up. Our goal was a hundred people show up. No, it's wow, 60 people showed up and hung out with me for an hour. Like I got to impact 60 people's lives today.
Or if I do a sales call, no matter if they purchase or not. Yes, I got on a sales call today. I'm so grateful that I had that opportunity to speak with that person. I made three new connections today. I'm so grateful that I got to celebrate three new people connecting with them today. And so when we get into this, it's not looking for the big things.
It's just looking for almost like the mundane. And I think, especially if you've been in business for a while, you start to, I don't think it's, you don't, we don't do it on purpose. It's subconscious. Things become a habit to us. And If it's happening every day we forget that it's a big deal and we should celebrate it.
I try to find those little things. Maybe you get to inbox zero, or maybe you finished your to do list. Today, I'm [00:14:00] celebrating finishing my to do list. Today, I'm celebrating that I only worked for three hours and got everything done. 10 minutes. To focus on my marketing minutes. And so i'll just read some that I had today.
I'm, so grateful For the five thirty seven dollars orders we had today. I'm, so grateful For the two one hundred dollars orders we had today. I'm grateful for our new conversions for clients member today I'm grateful for the friendships i've established throughout the years today I'm grateful for a podcast where I can help people So today I, or I'm sorry, these all say today I'm celebrating.
It's at the top. Today I'm celebrating the flexibility to run my business the way I want. These are the things I'm talking about. So some of these, like the friendships, I just got back from a mastermind and I'm grateful for those friendships. And sometimes I take that for granted. I don't celebrate that.
[00:15:00] Today I also didn't want to record a podcast, but instead I changed my tune. I said, today I'm celebrating. That I have a podcast where I can help people that put me in a state of gratitude where I could come on and record this episode and be in a totally different frequency than I would have been if I hadn't done that.
37 orders y'all. Some people take those for granted. I'm so grateful for each and every single person that, trust me, this was another one. Today I'm celebrating covering my ad spend. A workshop sold. Brianna landing her first client. Safe travels to Boston. Cash to stay at a nice hotel. Cash to enjoy a nice dinner.
Friends to laugh with. A husband to take care of the kids while I'm gone. Value that I'm able to give others. Nicole as a friend. So today I'm celebrating these things that we take for granted, but when we can come from a place of, hey, I'm [00:16:00] Today I'm celebrating. It changes our frequency. So this is the first thing I do when I get in my office is I start writing in my book.
Today I'm celebrating and I just list. And when that way you can make it some things are you, then you saw some of those was a student who got her first ad client. Like that to me is a way just to take a minute and reflect on What we do and how much our business does give us or how much our life Like you saw I had some of those that were like, i'm grateful for these friendships I'm grateful that i'm able to give value to others And so we come from that place.
It's hard not to have a good day Now, do I have bad days? Absolutely. But it's hard to start your day off wrong when you write in your celebration journal. So that's one ritual I have. The second ritual that we have is we're always looking for student wins. This is that external gratitude. And so we're always looking through our communities.[00:17:00]
We're asking share your wins. We're checking in with our strategist society members. We have them share their wins on their weekly tracking form. Inside conversions for clients, we're always asking people to share wins. And that's a way to show that, wow, I'm so grateful that we've created this place where people can go.
When they have a place to win, they have a place where they can share their gratitude. They can have a place to celebrate, but also to show the meaning in our business. Like I said, when psychology the psychology website, they talked about like finding meaning in your work. So can you go into clients accounts, see how you're impacting the leads that they've got, the way that their Instagram's growing, the impact they're having.
Can you make that a daily? It's a ritual to go and try to seek out that information, asking for testimonials, asking for feedback. These are ways that we can get that get [00:18:00] into a state of gratitude from the external, because it's not just us posting that. That's our external. And can we tap into that?
Are you going to have those every single day? No, we don't. And we have thousands of students. And so with that, but we are looking for it daily. It is part of our daily ritual. And when we screenshot it, we put it in our Slack channel. And anytime I'm feeling like, gosh, why am I doing what I'm doing? I go to that Slack channel.
And I'm like, Oh, This is the reason I do what I do so people can have cash Christmases so people can add an additional 4, 500 to their monthly revenue so people can bring home their husbands so people can Create lives that they never even knew were possible so they can get out of generational poverty And create a different story for their family.
This is why we do what we do And so having those two rituals has transformed my business, especially this year when this is the state of that I've been working from each and every single day. Now, I'm not perfect. There are [00:19:00] some days that are bad that emotionally I'm just not there. It's harder to tap into gratitude, but I try to tap into gratitude every single day.
Day and this comes after last year where we didn't hit million and we had a down year And I was like gosh I had a baby and now this is happening and I was in that constant mindset of what if this is it? What if this and you know what? It did not help my business at all being in that frequency did not help my business going into this year I was like new energy gratitude and every single month this year We have grown the business because the frequency of my gratitude is an all time high.
I'm vibrating at a different frequency because even the challenges I can be grateful for. They taught me something, a lesson I needed to learn. So how can we start incorporating gratitude more into our business? Okay. So the things that I'm grateful for, I did want to share this, the five main things I'm grateful for in my business right [00:20:00] now.
And then I also have three ways that you can put gratitude into your daily business. Okay number one, things I'm grateful for right now in my business, all the challenges. Y'all, over the last Six years, I've had my business. July will be seven. So we're at six and a half years. I've had my business.
I've also had challenges I've had clients that fired me. I've had ad accounts get disabled. I've had my own ad account privileges be revoked I've had put out products that flopped. I've had failed launches. I've had made bad purchases working with certain coaches like I've been through all the exact same things that you are going through or maybe that you will experience.
I've been there, but through every single one of those, it's taught me something. Last year was the first year that we went down in revenue since starting my business. And it taught me to be humble, that resilience, that family [00:21:00] is the most important. Like in my back of my mind, I've always known that, but this really put it in the forefront.
And also if we built it, once we can build it again, like now we're back at it, we're doing the dang thing, but I didn't let it kick me out. I didn't self sabotage. It taught me that I don't have to have an all or nothing mentality about everything that business ebbs and flows. And if I'm committed to being this in the long run, I have to have those challenges.
And so I'm so grateful for everything that I've been through, because it's funny, everything I've been through, I've helped someone else go through. Like when they're stuck in it, they don't know what to do. Then here I am. Oh yeah, I remember that. I went through that. Here's the thing that I got from it. So some of our times our challenges are for us to learn something so we can hit our next milestone because until you learn that lesson, you're never going to hit the milestone.
And then some things are meant for us to go through so we can help others. [00:22:00] And I truly think one of the biggest challenges I've had in my life was going through bankruptcy and I needed to learn how to manage my expenses. Money for a business but also the amount of people since I've shared that Who have come and said that they've been there and we give them hope and that there is another side that this doesn't mean they're a failure Like now I know I had to go through that And I had to heal from that and then share that experience because it wasn't just meant for me to learn from It was meant to inspire other people to move forward.
So i'm so grateful for those challenges i've been through Okay, number two is flexibility. Oh my gosh y'all You The amount of flexibility this business allows me is no other business could ever give me this. No nine to five could give me this. No other business could give me this. The way that I'm able to have a baby and take time off the way that I was able to adjust my schedule so I could continue to breastfeed the way that I'm able to travel when [00:23:00] I want the way that I'm able to, Oh yeah, now we're going to homeschool and fit that into my schedule and make it work.
The flexibility I'm beyond grateful for each and every single day. And that is one thing I will never take for granted, is the flexibility that I have. And the fact that I never have to ask anyone's permission for anything. When we decided to move to Georgia, we were able to do that. No permission needed, permission granted by me.
Because I get to choose. When we knew that Riley wasn't needed to come home to be homeschooled, we were I didn't have to ask permission. I didn't have to do anything. I could say, yes, this is what our family needs. That's what I'm going to do. Permission granted. And so I am beyond grateful every single day for the freedom and flexibility.
Then number three, I am so grateful for our students and clients. Every time someone spends money, invest money with us. They're saying, we trust you. And to me, I am so grateful for [00:24:00] that. And because of that, I'm going to make sure that all of our programs are 100 percent amazing and we'll get you results no matter if it's a 37 program or a 10, 000 program.
I'm going to show up because I'm grateful that you trusted me. And I don't take that trust lightly. You are not another number when you come into our world. You are a part of our family and you will be treated as part of our family. So I'm grateful for our students and clients who trust us. Then four, I'm so beyond grateful for the friendships that I've created along the way.
The friendships that I lean on, the friendships that they get me and friendships built in the online space doesn't happen unless you are investing and making friendships. So I see the bonds that have been formed through people in strategist society or conversions for clients. I'm like, yes, do the dang thing y'all go and do that dang thing.
Programs that have been created because of those friendships [00:25:00] partnerships that have been formed, agencies that have been built because of those friendships. And I'm grateful for the masterminds I've joined in the friendships I've created because they get me, they know what I'm going through. I have text groups that I'm in where like it's moms and we're all running a business and how can we connect?
And I would not still be in this business six months later. Or six years later without the friendships that I've created because those friendships are everything to me And so i'm so grateful for the friendships i've created along the way and then five I'm, so grateful for the choices that I have because of my business, whether, like I said, it's like the flexibility, but choices to buy not one, but two homes.
We don't own both homes, but like we built our dream home. And then that dream home was no longer a dream home and we were able to sell it and buy the, or forever home. And having those choices, having the choices to homeschool Riley, having the [00:26:00] choices to have Bodie. It was funny when we were talking about having Bodie, we thought really it was going to be our one and only.
But then when it came time to have this discussion, are we really done? All the reasons why people don't have babies, we didn't have those reasons anymore. It wasn't that money. We didn't have the money. It wasn't that oh, we are gonna have to get child care. It wasn't any of that. It was like, oh.
We don't have any of those reasons. It gave us a choice. Do we want another one or not? Without having all the baggage that goes along with those decisions sometimes. Our biggest thing was like, do we want to change diapers again? Literally, that's the only thing we had to decide on. Do we want another human?
And and I'm so glad. Because Bodhi is everything to me. That little man, he is, My everything and to think oh if there would have been something like money holding us back that I may not have had him Oh, that would have been awful. I love him so much. And so I'm so grateful that we have choices.
We get to make choices because [00:27:00] I have this business and choices like vacationing choices like do we want to finish our basement? Do we not like we have big choices and small choices that this business has allowed But they were choices that I would have never ever had before So I'm grateful for all five of those things.
I'm grateful for more, but those are the top five. So how can you incorporate gratitude more into your business? One, thank you cards are cards or notes to friends, family, clients. Cards are so amazing. We send cards to anyone who joins us in Certified Strategist Society. We try to get cards out when we see that someone's had a baby.
We try to get cards out when we've seen someone's had a big milestone. If someone's sick or a family member's sick, we send cards. Not many people send cards in the mail anymore and sending a card in the mail can be something that totally changes someone's day. [00:28:00] So not only are you adding gratitude to your life because you're sitting there writing a card, but you're also adding gratitude to other people and letting them being a state of gratitude for you sending them.
So that's something simple that you can do today. Create a celebration journal. That's the journal I talked about. That's something you can do today. And three, share your wins openly. Your wins, when you are bold enough to share your wins, it helps you get into a state of gratitude, but it also helps other people get into a state of gratitude and show them what's possible so they can be, find meaning in their business when maybe they're having a really hard time finding that.
So those are some ways to incorporate gratitude today And I hope that you take this episode and I hope you find ways that you can incorporate Gratitude daily in your business, even if it's just five minutes a day And I will say one thing that I started several years ago I don't do it anymore because I have my celebration journal, but the five minute [00:29:00] gratitude journal so good That's an easy way to get into gratitude as well There's that resource that you can go on amazon and find but making this a priority This is so important.
I would say it's more important than exercise. It's more important than like drinking your water. It's more important than your marketing minutes, but we have to do all those things. But what if we started the day with gratitude? How would your business change? How would your life change? So my friends go out this week, put some gratitude in your business and in your life.
Enjoy your Thanksgiving, serve your clients, scale your business and soar into the success you deserve.
