How to be Cool

Brahma Kumaris Season 1 Episode 84

True coolness comes from recognizing our spiritual essence and maintaining inner peace, even in difficult situations. This awareness helps us respond to challenges without losing our composure, keeping our inner world calm and cool.

Good day and very warm welcome to the, I am Judy and today our topic is on how to be cool. I think we all aspire to be cool. And we have a phrase that many of us use, we say, I lost my cool. And this idea of those moments when we lose our cool is actually when we react and we might become irritated or impatient or even angry. This idea of I lost my cool. So I think we all have a sense of what that cool stage feels like. You might even want to start to reflect now, what's that cool stage feel like?
What does it mean when I have my cool and what does it feel like when I lose my cool?
So we want to be able, especially if we feel we're starting to lose our cool, to be able
to know what I can do internally in order to restore that sense of cool, how to be cool.
And it's so beautiful to move through the world in a cool way.
It's actually the stage of personal dignity.
So exploring how to be cool, how to on demand reach that stage of coolness of personal dignity.
Let's experiment.
I begin always by ensuring that I'm seated comfortably and I can experiment with the eyes
open in a natural way so that it can integrate into my day to day life.
I take a breath in and even more slowly release the air from the lungs already feeling like
it's cooling things down that inhale and even slower exhale.
I let the breath continue naturally on its own as it will and shift my focus to that
place behind the forehead, that vast space my inner world.
Such a wonderful realm, my inner world, it's the space of thoughts and feelings, experiences,
memories, perspectives, attitudes, a very rich space.
And how I operate in my inner world will very much affect how I operate in the outer world.
So it's so worthwhile that I give this time now to caring for my inner world.
Having the perfect environment in my inner world, not too hot, not too cold.
Very cool, pleasant, comfortable.
We describe that state as peaceful, that there is peace while being lightness in my inner world.
Using my attention, I begin to move through my inner world, assessing what state is it in.
And more often than not, if I am honest, I see signs of negligence,
there's lots of thoughts, lots of unresolved issues, lots pulling the line.
Even to stabilize for a second can be a challenge, so much filling the space of my inner world,
pulling my attention.
But I am not disturbed, because my entire reason for focusing on my inner world is to care for it.
So I continue to move through that inner terrain, arriving at a place I am coming to know so well.
That very sacred space where I can sit and meaningfully reflect.
Or I give myself permission to step away from thoughts around rules,
relationships, responsibilities, all those worldly thoughts.
Stepping outside the rhythm of day to day life.
And stepping into this very sacred space inside.
Even my own sense of self changes when I step into this sacred space,
not ordinary at all, very deep, almost ancient, eternal, timeless sense of self.
That we call spiritual.
The very essence of who I am.
Not identifying anything temporary, coming to the very point of who I am and what I am.
Remembering I am a spiritual being, the life inside this body,
this spark of life.
And in that way I am quite a wonder.
Although the body is physical, and I can clearly see it with a physical eye,
feel it with a physical sense.
It is not me.
I am not physical at all.
But I am still very real.
I exist.
I experience myself now thinking, feeling and reflecting.
I observe the body made of the elements, oxygen, nitrogen, carbon.
And it is a wonder, how it works, how it moves, quite the wonder.
But an even greater wonder is the self.
Without me, without life, this matter of the body would not move at all.
Focusing on the wonder of the self.
Immediately allows me to let go of any other thoughts.
Nothing can compare with experiencing the suffering, the wonder of the self in such a sacred way.
So who and what am I?
I the living being, the state I am in,
determines the state of my inner world.
When I am feeling heavy, confused, overwhelmed, afraid or distressed,
it launches chaos in my inner world, makes it very hot, upheaval.
But when I feel peaceful, stable, when I trust the self, when I am connected
to the incredible capacities of the self as a soul,
there is calm in my inner world.
No matter how great the challenges outside, there is calm, my inner world becomes cool.
Just as I can press a button to start an air conditioner,
I can press this internal button of awareness to cool down my inner world.
I just have to remember who and what I am.
It's a little more than just thinking about it.
I could have the thought, I am a soul.
I am this incredible, eternal being, I am life. I could have those thoughts.
But I actually need to experience from as real, become those thoughts, awareness.
My reality, I am a spiritual being. I feel it separate from this body.
A subtle, quiet, eternal being, traveling through time.
Everything around me might be changing, but what I am does not change.
I am always a soul, the life in this body.
And I am eternal.
I continue no matter what is happening around me.
Creating such a sense of depth and calm within the soul,
when I awaken to who I truly am.
That sense of calm begins to fill the space of my inner world.
Not just cooling things down, but slowing things down and simplifying everything.
All those thoughts I had been carrying suddenly start to dissolve.
Not through any force or repression or violence, naturally dissolving in that coolness.
Only that which is essential remains.
And so the coolness brings lightness.
The mind is no longer happy. More space to create more peace.
More and more cool and calm.
But the ultimate sign of coolness is when something happens outside
to which I would normally react.
If I am truly in reality, truly aware, I am a soul, a spiritual being.
I am imperishable. I get through anything and everything.
If that is my reality, then I will keep my cool.
No matter what is happening outside, I'm able to keep my cool.
That deep sense of self remains intact.
I'll experiment today, pressing that inner button that activates coolness in my inner world,
especially when I might feel challenged, not thinking about just pressing the button.
I am a soul, a peaceful spiritual being.
Seeing if I am able to be cool even in challenging times.
