Rebranding Mental Health
The Rebranding Mental Health Podcast explores what mental health could look like if we moved beyond the outdated disease model and embraced TOTAL health—brain, body, relationships, and purpose. Through real talk, cultural critique, and forward-thinking ideas, we unpack the systems that shape our well-being and imagine bold new ways to heal, connect, and grow. It’s not about fixing what’s broken—it’s about building what we’ve been missing.

The Stories We Inherit About Love: Relationship Rules That No Longer Serve Us
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
What if the relationship rules you learned were never actually yours?
Don’t text first. Don’t show too much interest. Don’t be too available. Don’t let them know you care more.
Many of us inherit stories about love from our families, culture, media, and past relationships—and eventually those stories can become rules we follow without realizing it.
In this episode of Rebranding Mental Health, Iman and Kurt explore why our nervous systems are drawn to familiarity, how early experiences shape our expectations of intimacy, and how cultural messages can influence the way we communicate, pursue connection, protect ourselves, and experience vulnerability.
Because sometimes we aren't struggling because we're bad at relationships. We're simply following an old rulebook.
We’ll explore the difference between boundaries and relationship games, why familiar discomfort can feel safer than unfamiliar peace, and what it looks like to replace inherited relationship rules with healthier skills.
You’ll also be introduced to the R.E.W.R.I.T.E. practice:
Recognize the rule.
Explore where you learned it.
Witness how it protected you.
Reconsider whether it is still true.
Increase awareness of what happens in your body when you challenge it.
Try one healthier behavior.
Evaluate what you learn.
The goal isn't to become better at playing the game. It's to become a healthier participant in your relationships. Because patterns don't change unless we do. And sometimes emotional health begins when we realize we're allowed to put down the old rulebook and write a new one.
