Karen M. Hilyard, Ph.D. is a behavioral scientist and communication professional who builds capacity, skill, and effectiveness at public health agencies and healthcare organizations around the world by delivering incredibly interactive, highly practical, evidence-based trainings in health communication.   

An award-winning former journalist and public relations & marketing executive, Dr. Hilyard spent 12 years in academia, focused on public health teaching and research.  Her work has been funded by NSF, CDC, and NIH and she is published in journals such as Vaccine, the American Journal of Preventive Medicine, Health Affairs, and Health Promotion Practice.  She specializes in applying theory to practice with plain language, actionable guidance that can help both health comm nerds and health comm novices achieve measurable real-world results.
