Freelancer Training on How to Find Direct Clients
Ep 67. Navigating Rome's Rental Market: Expert Insights from Marie-Hélène Hayles
This week on the podcast I caught up with Italian to English translator, local real estate consultant and my 1:1 coaching client Marie-Helene Hayles.
Marie-Helene was born and grew up in the UK. After 10 years in the British chemical industry, she moved to Rome in 1999, where, after a few years teaching English as a second language, she switched careers to become a freelance medical translator. Twenty-five years later, she launched HelpmateRome, a service to help non-Italian speakers navigate the tempestuous Roman housing market.
Marie-Helene is a holder of the CIOL DipTrans, a member of the Institute of Translation and Interpreting and a Member of the Royal Society of Chemistry. She has two cats and one husband.
Here are a few highlights from our wide-ranging conversation:
- Teaching English is a solid stepping stone to freelance translation
- A side hustle is an alternative income stream and a way to navigate a very competitive and saturated freelance translation market
- Business buddies are extremely valuable to help keep you accountable
Connect to Marie-Hélène on LinkedIn or through her Roman real estate consultancy website
Please enjoy!
