Sirens, Slammers and Service - A podcast for Female First Responders
As a former correctional officer in Alberta for almost 2 decades and the founder of Blue Line Fitness Testing which provides law enforcement fitness testing and wellness workshops, I started this podcast as a way for female first responders to be able to share their stories including the trials, tribulations and triumphs of their daily work. Our episodes cover female correctional officers and caseworkers, military personnel, female paramedics, firefighters and dispatchers, as well as feature female Edmonton Police Service officers, drug dog handlers and female tactical team members. I want to showcase the unique perspectives, skill sets and personalities that women bring to a first responder career and work to encourage more women to apply for these careers and step up to learn more about what we do.

Sirens, Slammers, and Service
What does it take to lead with resilience in the face of trauma? In this powerful episode, we sit down with Nicole Ferry, a trailblazing law enforcement leader with over 26 years of public safety experience. From her role as Special Agent in Charge in a Class I railroad police department to her work in human trafficking prevention and officer wellness, Nicole brings both professional authority and deep personal insight to the conversation.
Nicole gets real about her journey through PTSD and trauma, sharing how those experiences have shaped her mission to empower first responders and military communities. She opens up about the turning point that led her to embrace wellness tools like yoga, mindfulness, and resilience training, and how those practices are now part of her national and international work with law enforcement leaders.
Nicole is a FBI National Academy grad, a Comprehensive Officer Resilience Trainer, and a RISE Facilitator who’s changing the narrative around mental wellness in policing.
If you're in the world of public safety—or you love someone who is—this episode is a must-listen. Share it with your squad, your team, or someone who’s silently carrying the weight of the job. Let’s keep the conversation going and remind each other: you don’t have to wear the badge alone.
