I grew up In Brooklyn, NY and lived and worked in the New York metro area for most of my adult life. 
In 2014, my husband and I decided to leave the rat race and move to somewhere affordable, with a somewhat slower pace.  
We sold our condo in Stamford, CT and purchased a new home in a master-planned community in Apollo Beach, Florida. 
Although our home in Apollo Beach was beautiful, we were out in the suburbs and felt somewhat secluded from the LGBTQ+ community. 
That's when I started the Facebook group "Where Do Gays Retire." (https://www.facebook.com/groups/GayRetirementPlaces)Today, the group has grown to 12,300 members, and continues to help the LGBTQ+ community find their happy retirement place.
We have since moved to Phoenix, Arizona where we enjoy our urban condo living.
Will this be our forever home? Perhaps not. This group has opened our eyes to other countries for retirement.
