Katie Lovitt:

I see people doing this every single day. Whenever I'm talking with you guys on Instagram, whenever I'm talking with, you know, current clients about what they were doing before we started working together. And, you know, we can all trip up and get sucked into some of these mindsets and some of these behaviors that are keeping us from making progress on any walk of life. But today we're specifically talking about gut health. So I've got four things to share with you. That is keeping you stuck. That's keeping you from getting results. That's keeping you from making progress. And just a reminder, like why I'm so imp passionate about, this is your goals, like your gut health. It's not just about your gut health, right? If it were just about your bathroom habits, I would honestly not be sitting here. It's about so much more than that. It's about overcoming a challenge. It's about growing through the challenge, and it's about feeling your best so that you can shine your light brightly and share your love with the world and impact everyone around you in a positive way, making the world a better place, achieving your goals, leaving a legacy for others, and. That is so, so, so important. And if your gut is holding you back from that, it needs to get fixed. Right? It's not just about the bathroom habits. Yeah. That's really uncomfortable and embarrassing and isolating and all of those things, and you need to feel better, but it's so that you can do these other great things as well, and your life isn't made smaller because of it. So that rant being said, let's dig in. So again, we're gonna go over four things that you're doing that are keeping you from making progress with your gut health. And like I was saying, you know, people like people can fall into this all the time. And I see it happen in myself, even I see it happen in my clients, all of that, so don't feel too called out. It's done in a loving way and it's really meant to inspire you to do better and grow and recognize some of these things that are keeping you stuck. Okay? Okay. First one, please don't turn off this podcast. Whenever I read this to you, whenever I say this to you. The first thing that you're doing that's keeping you stuck is expecting transformation to come from free advice. Now, I realize the irony as I say that because you are either listening to this in a free podcast or watching this on a YouTube channel for free. Now I, I'm not saying that these free things that I'm giving you are not valuable. They are very valuable and they can give you tips and everything, but they're not gonna give you free. You know, they're not gonna give you a complete transformation and help you fix everything. I'm really, really happy to be generous with my knowledge and time. It's my gift to you guys. I love having conversations with people and, you know direct messages on Instagram and on Facebook and giving feedback and encouragement and, Here in my weekly podcast and YouTube show sharing with the process of rehabbing your gut in my free six stages of gut rehab guide, which if you haven't picked that up yet, what are you waiting for? It's awesome. You need to get it. I have monthly blog posts and bimonthly newsletters, and. Of other things. That's a ton of free information every single month. And like I said, while it may help you have some tips or some mindset shifts or things to try like this, this podcast, like we're getting super met super. Hello. Can I talk super meta here with this podcast because I'm talking about how free advice doesn't give you transformation in the free advice. But the perfect example is you're gonna walk away from this episode with some really great tips and things to think about and things to do. This one episode is not going to fix all of your problems. Now, maybe if you listen to all of my podcasts and took some really good notes, read all of my Instagram messages, looked at all of my posts on Instagram and my blog posts, and read all my newsletters. Maybe you could piecemeal a plane together for yourself, but even then, you're not getting the personalized testing and personalized supplement recommendations that you really need to feel better. Do you see what I'm saying here? The free stuff, the little tips, and try this and try that. It's not going to get you the transformation that you're after if you're dealing with a hot mess gut. You need a strategy in place and someone to hold your hand as you go through it all in real time. If you're gonna see real change. The strategy that I set at the beginning of a client's plan very rarely stays the same six months later as we're into it, we make adjustments and pivot as we move forward, as we move through it, and that's what makes my gut rehab program not just a good program, but a great one. It's because we're learning and growing through it together, and we're seeing the results of the changes that we're making and we're like, Optimizing it and you know, quantum leaping the next step so that you get even better results. Does that make sense? Okay, so that was the first one. Stop expecting transformation from free advice. The second one. You might feel called out on this too, is changing your approach every few weeks because you aren't seeing results. Now, you're more likely to do this if you're trying to piecemeal a plan together with free advice, right? This happens because you don't have a plan and you're just trying different things and hoping for the best. You're trying a tip here and a tip there, and a book, you know, a book plan here that you read in a book and a podcast. Plan there and you're trying to piece things together. And so you're really just like trying different things. You don't have a real strategy and a real plan that's cohesive and that sees the big picture. You're just trying these little picture things along the way with no real long-term plan or direction that you're gonna be able to get. So you know, I get that you wanna feel better and all of that, but even a good plan you know, even working with me, you need time to see improvement and that's where some working with someone like myself, Hmm. Can be super helpful because you have someone next to you who's done this a lot and can help you decide when it's time to change things up and when it's time to give something a little more time. So that's something I do with my clients all the time, and that's something that can be really challenging to decide for yourself if you're doing the solo on the on your own Plus. If you have a really clear strategy like I help my clients with, and you understand why you're on a certain plan, you understand your body better, you understand what it's needing and how you're supporting it with the plan that you're on, you're going to be a lot more motivated to give it a fair chance, right? You see where you're trying to go with it versus not knowing and truly just like shooting in the dark or throwing spaghetti at the wall. So the third thing that you're doing that's keeping you from getting results is asking for advice from family and friends and good old Dr. Google, way too much girl. They don't know. They don't know. They may be able to share what worked for them, but it most likely is not gonna work for you. And this. Jumping from person to person and asking different opinions is the quickest way to start spinning and overwhelm. First of all, if you're doing this with your health, you're most likely doing this in other aspects of your life as well. Are you the person who always, I. I'm guilty of charge y'all like this has been a huge area of growth for me, trusting myself, trusting my own opinion, trusting my own judgment and ability to make decisions without other people telling me what I should decide, what I should believe in, what I should do. If you identify as that, I feel you, and it can be really scary to step out and feel like you're making those decisions on your own without the safety net of opinions of others. But whenever it comes to your own body, You need one expert to partner with, you need to walk through it together. Everyone else's opinions are just that. They're opinions, they don't know. And so whenever you are asking, well, what should I do about this? And you know, I'm on these Facebook groups for people with i b s and they're just, well, what should I try for this and what should I try for that? Y'all, they're getting two 50 plus comments per post. How can somebody possibly weed through all of that? And not feel overwhelmed. Shoot, I get overwhelmed reading all of that. So what you need to do, you need to make sure the people you ask advice for from are qualified and that you're getting actual data and information and not opinions, right? Opinions are not gonna get you anywhere. That leads me to the fourth thing that people are doing and that is not hiring the right partners for what you need. Okay. You need to get clear on what you need. I actually did an Instagram live about this a couple weeks ago. There is a time yes, for GI Docs and there is a time for specialists, you know, medical doctors and all of that. There's also a right time for hiring the right dietician to help you dig in and walk through the changes together that you need to make so that you can feel better. Finding the right help means doing your research, journaling about the kind of support that you really need, and interviewing partners to ensure an excellent fit. Now, I will say it's hard to know exactly what you need whenever you're first starting out, and that's okay, right? Like you need to step forward with maybe some imperfect action and give things a try. If something feels right, like if you're talking with someone on Instagram or you're attending a training or something like that, and you feel like you connect to the person, they have a strong track record, they have the right credentials and training, and they know what they're doing, and you feel connected to them, go with that. You know? If you've worked with several providers before, maybe you've hired two or three different dieticians or nutrition coaches, you've been through a few different GI docs. That personal connection is really important. But also you need to start reflecting on why didn't I get results with these people? Why didn't I get help? What is it that's missing that would get me better results last time? I hope you're writing this down'cause this is really powerful. What do I need that I didn't get before? Right? Because honestly, if you're seeing, you know, four or five or six different providers and not getting results, and they're all qualified, You might need to do some self work and some self digging and ask yourself, am I really trusting these people to help me? Am I really advocating for myself if something's not working, am I, you know, fully doing what they're asking me to do? Or am I acting like I am and acting like I'm checking the boxes and getting frustrated whenever it doesn't work, when really I wasn't doing what they told me to do in the first place? Right? Like, don't go hire another dietician or go pay to see another doctor. If you're truly not in a place yet where you're not going to show up and do the work. Now I'm not talking about perfection, right? None of us are perfect. There are days I don't get my vegetables into y'all. Right? Like we're all people, we all have life come up. Things happen. I'm not saying you have to be perfect, but you have to be willing to show up. You have to be willing to reach out and tell somebody whenever something's not going well, and work with them on figuring out what kind of support you need. What do you need to help you get better? That's what I always ask for from my clients. You know, like, I'm going to show up for you 110%, but you have to show up for yourself. 110% too. I wish that just hiring me, I could like wave a magic wand and get you feeling all better. And I think a lot of the times we're kinda like, oh, check the box. Like, I hired Katie. All my gut issues are fixed. No, I wish. But that's really just the beginning of the work, right? And it's exciting because you'll have a plan and you'll have guidance and all of that, but you've gotta do the work too. And, and you know, honestly, people sometimes wanna wait for the right time. They're like, oh, I have a lot of work stress going on right now. I have some trips coming up. Oh, the holidays are three months away. I better wait until after those, you know, to get started. If you do that, you're never gonna start. You're never gonna start. There's never a perfect time and there's never really a wrong time either, because I love supporting people through those challenging times of their lives.'cause that's when they need it the most. Right, like you don't necessarily need a ton of support whenever your stress levels at a zero and you have all the time in the world to take care of yourself. Like you need help and support coming up with strategies to implement your healthy, you know, behaviors whenever you are busy, whenever you do have a lot of things going on. And that's really where, you know, professionals like myself can shine. So, I hope that gave you a lot of things to talk about. I'm gonna run through that list one more time for you guys because I know I rattled them off. So, first of all, stop expecting a transformation from free advice. You know, appreciate free advice for what it is. It's some tips and tricks. It's not gonna transform your health. Okay. Second is changing your approach, excuse me, changing your approach every few weeks because you aren't seeing results, okay? You gotta stick with something long enough and you need to know when it is time to bail, when it is time to pivot, and when it's time to stick with something longer. Number three is asking for advice from family, friends, and Dr. Google too much. Instead of, you know, asking for a pro. And that leads me into, Four. And that is not hiring the right partners for what you need. So if you're doing one of those things, you're gonna be stuck. If you're doing all four of those things, you're gonna be stuck. So, you know, really reflect on, you know, what am I doing? To, you know, keep myself stuck. What am I doing that's keeping me where I'm at? You know? Is there something else? It's not an exhaustive list, it's just four things I hear commonly. So you guys let me know and I hope I didn't make you feel too called out today. Just the right amount of called out to change. You know, your behaviors that you can grow and improve. That's always what I'm after. So, alright, you guys, y'all take care and we'll talk.
