The Dr. Mary Louder Show
Welcome to the Dr. Mary Louder Show!
Changes are ahead! In this episode, Dr. Mary Louder introduces her new podcast, "The Doctor Mary Louder Show," focusing on integrating medicine with the soul, spirituality, and energetics. She also goes over recent changes to the practice, in particular a new holistic primary care model. In other exciting news, she mentions her upcoming book, "Anatomy of a Soul's Calling," set to release on September 23, 2025 (the autumnal equinox--come to the launch party!) and her new functional mushrooms line, mycoVIM. Listen now to catch all the changes in this new iteration of both podcast and practice!
Well, hello, my friends, my faithful podcast listeners. Dr. Mary Louder here, and I want to welcome you truly to the first new episode of a change in the podcast. And we're migrating away from Since You Put It That Way--while that was a success, I felt the need to change. And as you are getting to know me, change is an ever-present constant with me. And so I've done some modifications. And so today, this is really the first official episode of The Dr. Mary Louder Show. And so I say, perhaps you've heard of me. Um, I've been around for just a little bit. Or perhaps you're new and finding your way here. And either way, I'm really glad that you have arrived at this podcast. Today, this space, and I want to describe how we want to move forward with, with the podcast, it's where medicine is going to meet. Meaning, now we did a lot about head scratching of hmm, Since You Put It That Way, but I don't want to just talk about symptoms. I want to throw in the concept of the soul, and we'll probably even walk into areas around spirituality, and we'll talk about energetics, and we'll talk about why I think that's actually a systems within the body, like cardiovascular system, respiratory system, GI system, energetics, that's a system. So, I want you to get a cozy front row seat on everything new and everything blooming as we go forward. And I'd like to talk about some changes that have occurred in the practice too, because some of you folks that listen to the podcast are also patients in the practice. And so I want to go there for just a few minutes and talk about that, what's happening. So, behind the scenes, April, May, March-April-May have been a super busy month, just reinventing, not the wheel, but how I do the practice. And the reason is because we had a lot of patients that came in over the last couple of years, 18 months to 24 months, and they've gotten well. And the methodology and the model really didn't fit them anymore, because they were well, they wanted to hang around, as it were, continue being a patient, but just how the structure was, it didn't really support that. And so I adapted the structure. And so I'd like to show you that by sharing my screen with you and going to--I'm going to go to the zoo here in a little bit, see the lanterns, so that's going to be really fun--but that's not what we're looking at now. I'm going to go and show you the website here and show you what this looks like now. We've got the holistic primary care reimagined with the concept of Cairn. Now the Cairn are these stacks. These are rocks. These rocks represent the different colors of our chakras, or energy systems within our body. And really this tagline I came up with years ago, restoring the heart and soul in medicine. And little did I know how much of a tagline that that would really be, as my soul is really getting so much more anchored in the care for my patients, in the research I'm doing, in some other things, I've written a book, I'm going to tell you about that, and I've been the process of writing two more. And really it reflects not just my heart and soul, but really a way forward I think that we need to take in medicine, because there's so many things we could do so much better with. And so when you come into a practice, the new people come in, and the experience looks like this. There's a strategy session, and you've all had this if you've been a patient. And if you haven't been a patient yet, this is how you come in, and you get to meet with me, or my little avatar, and then we do The Hero's Genome. From there, we decide some treatments and additional testing, and then you get in this circle here, and cycle, which varies with each patient. It could take several revolutions to achieve your desired goals and outcomes. It could take a year. Could take two years, it could take six months. And it involves resources, webinars, education, and we're setting up and starting in June, a drop-in weekly support with open office hours. On Wednesdays at noon, I'll be hosting a Zoom call, and folks can jump on the Zoom call, ask general questions about medicine, about supplements, or, Hey, I've heard about this. What do you think? And then they've got the one-on-one meeting with me as well for appointments. Now, in looking at that, we've got a--let's see. I'm going to go over this way. We've got tiers, not tears of sadness, but tiers of care and our medical tiers here, and we've broken it down in columns, and we set it up a little bit according to what's called the medical systems questionnaire, MSQ. And the MSQ is scored anywhere from zero to 70, and if your MSQ score is less than or equal to 30, you're usually in this column here the first column. If it's between 30 and 70, you're in the middle. If it's greater than 70, you're over on the right side. This could translate into less support or more independence, medium support, or a lot of support. And these cycle for 12 months. So we've got the prices listed here for the annual renewal, or if you're coming in as an absolutely new patient, because you get an initial visit, which is that 399 plus the genomics. And then we've got the prices listed right here on the website for your office visits, or how they're included in both the Pathfinder's Way and the Alchemist's Path. The Seeker's Step is more of a fee-for-service after you come in through the membership. So that's in a completely different realignment from what I've done before, and this fits more with what folks need, and usually how people access this is with their HSA health savings account or flex money. Sometimes they just simply pay cash, and that's fine, too. And to the extent that we can, we do give you a an encounter form to submit, we're considered always out of network. And for anybody who's of Medicare age, I've completely opted out of Medicare now completely, totally done with that system. So that's what that looks like, and you can find this right on the website. So drmarylouder.com, so I would encourage you to do that. But that's the biggest evolution. We're continuing to do the Hero's Genome. We're continuing to do the DUTCH test. We're continuing to do Boston Heart. We're continuing to use Rupa Labs to get extensive labs and things that you need. And those prices are actually very competitive, and they are very telling now within the DUTCH test, that looks at hormonal balances, cortisol, estrogen for women, testosterone for men, how you metabolize those hormones. So that means we're also expanding and giving more physical exams. That could be your annual exam as a female. Your annual exam as a male. One of the things that I did a lot of and have reinvigorated--and take a sip here--is hormone therapy. For years, I've done hormone replacement therapy in women and in men, and we're caring from anyone who's pre menopausal, post menopausal, with or without diseases such as breast cancer, heart disease, osteoporosis. And there's just a really lovely way to do this. There's a lot in the, the you know, in the discussion field right now about menopause. There's no new menopause. It's been around forever, right? And I have always looked at menopause as a metabolism, and your way your metabolism relates to your hormones. And when I look at it that way, I can get more underneath and support better, and we don't need always super high doses of hormone replacement therapy, because we get your body balanced, and then we apply hormones. So it's a wonderful way to do that, and we're offering that in the office too. And that's something that, you know, soon as we say menopause and hormones, people are, you know, really calling for care on that. So that's the changes in the practice that are really fun, and you can access that again through the website, or if you have questions, call us at 616-201-8955, and you'll get to speak with Christa, my medical assistant. The next thing that we're celebrating is our release of mycoVIM, which is the functional mushrooms, and that's a blend of mushrooms that I put together with Reishi, Cordyceps, Turkey's Tail, Lion's Mane and Chaga. And those mushrooms are grown in America. They're curated, they're cultivated, they're purified and third party tested, and they're organic. And those are at therapeutic levels that I dosed in coordination with clinical findings and clinical research. So each individual mushroom has their own bottle, and then I have a blend of all five of them for general mushroom support, functional mushroom support. Sorry, they're not the hallucinogenic ones, they're just the functional ones, but we do put the fun in functional right? Those mushrooms are available in the five blend in one bottle. And so you're taking one to two milliliters, which is under a half a teaspoon, or each individual bottle you can use in one milliliter dosing. And so remember, a teaspoon is five milliliters. So this is a very low dosing in terms of how much you have to take. But they're very powerful. So when you take them, I literally put them on a spoon, take the dropper and put it right on the spoon, and then lick it right off the spoon down the hatch. Tastes just a little bit like molasses, maybe a little bit of an earthy molasses, but it tastes really good. And I found my recovery to be better with my workout, sleep is better. They are anti inflammatory. They help the gut heal. And so I take the individual bottles, and we actually get them tuned into what your needs are. And those can replace a lot of supplements, because they're working with the body. They're adaptogenic, and they go in and they work in certain areas of the body, and then they work together the different mushrooms. So that's really neat. So that's called mycoVIM, and you can find that on our website as well. Now, the next thing I want to announce, which is really fun, something deeply personal, though, and I'm going to toot my own horn here a little bit. I've written a book. And it will be released September 23, 2025 on the equinox. And the name of the book is called Anatomy of a Soul's Calling. And we are just putting the finishing touches. It's all been edited, copyedited, proofread, the covers done, and the final cover is done, and the ebook is done, and we're now getting it ready to be pre-launched, which is a funny word, pre-launched. And come July, which is not too far away, we're going to be able to pre-order the book. And then we're going to have some lead up to that. I'm going to give some teasers about what's in the book, and then we're going to have a launch party right around the autumnal equinox. So that's a great day. It's a Tuesday, September 23, and we're going to be releasing the book then, and that's going to be fun. It's going to be a lot of celebration. And yes, you'll get to have the curtain pulled back on Dr. Mary Louder as a youngin', so. And different things. And really the the goal How our body works. So that will be really fun. Another thing you know, that's been really helpful, and I think times are, oh, I say these are the best of times, these are the worst of times. They're the wonkiest of times, right? At the heart of it all, I think a lot, things that can go a far way to help ourselves is really self compassion, connection and understanding anxiety. And here's what I notice over and over again, is that when patients--and I put myself in that category--when we begin to see ourselves with gentleness, with deep compassion, with fierce, deep compassion, sometimes, that's that inner critic softens. I've been really practicing holding my nervous system with much more care. Things where I used to just kind of push through and say, well, we'll just get through it and then figure it out later. I'll sort my emotions later. I've been stopping and slowing and just saying no, not doing that. Conversations that get strenuous, I'm just stopping and listening and being curious, and most important, I'm trying to find where I connect, first to myself, so that I can connect with another person. And I find that because we are wired for belonging, connection and love, the first thing that I want to do is belong, first to myself and no one else, and then to my closest loved ones, right, my inner circle. And then I want to belong to my story. I'm not my story, nor does my story define me, but I do have a story, and you'll be reading about it on the equinox, right? You know, so I want connection to that, because owning the story, owning who we are and being who we are is the most important thing, because no one else can be who we're supposed to be. And if we don't do it, no one else is really going to do it at all. And you know, people say, Well, life is short, and I'll say it is, but also this is the longest thing I've ever done, right? So I think owning my story, owning our own story, being connected to ourself is really important. So, if people are struggling with anxiety, and I look at anxiety as a call to understand. It's a question, it's a desire to reach out because you want to feel more safe and secure. My Anxiety Code is a great webinar that you can view, and if you need to review it, go ahead. And it gives you some really good ideas on how to work with and handle when life gets pretty anxious. So here's what's up ahead on our shows, we're going to look at some things with genomics and menopause, genes and menopause, your genes are calling. Also, we're going to look at some exercise, and I've got a great interview and conversation with an exercise scientist and a world class athlete, and that's coming up here in the next few weeks. And look for those podcasts to be coming through. And we're going to talk about even genomics with exercise, and how our genome report can really drive what we do in exercise and caring for ourselves. And you're going to hear stories, mine and others, and you'll always find something real, something that should resonate and be rooted really in the soul-first, going-first, person-centered medicine. So if this episode gave you some encouragement, I hope so. I'm going to be around. We're going to, in changing the format, I found that really what resonates with what I want to do is going to be more soul and heart driven. Yeah, there's going to be great medical information. There's going to be great stuff to talk about. And in every podcast except this one, will be a section called, recurring section called gadgets, gimmicks and gotchas, and we're going to be looking at things, whether it's earthing mats or certain kind of running shoes or certain kind of exercises or a certain supplement, or something that's been, you know, in the news. And we're going to look at the research behind it, the good, the bad, and we're going to find out if it is a gadget that's helpful, if it's a gimmick that just has some meh behind it, or if it's a gotcha and you wish--it makes you want to go look for the receipt to return whatever you just bought, right? So I think that will be fun to really sort that through and find out and have a little fun with that as well. So thank you for tuning in to this episode, the first inaugural episode of The Dr Mary Louder Podcast. And I guess if I did have a gadget or gimmick or gotcha today, it would be podcasts in general. And I would say, look for the podcast that would be a gadget that resonates with you. Something deep resonates. This makes sense. This feels right for me. This feels true. A gimmick would be something--a podcast with a gimmick would be something that would promise you things, maybe say, you know, five steps to this, or, I'll bet you never did, or you're probably doing all this wrong, those would be more gimmicky. And so that would be in the, yeah, not so sure. The gotchas are going to be flat out, everybody's wrong, your doctor's wrong, and if you don't try this, you're going to die. And you should know if you don't, if you're having this symptom, it's a hidden sign of this, that and the other, those are the gotchas. Stay clear of that information, because that's just driven by fear. It disconnects you from yourself, and you just don't really make good decisions when all that happens. So podcast with the heart, podcast with the soul, podcast with accurate information, research, good evidence, and, you know, straightforward stuff. So I guess that would put us the Doctor Mary Louder Show, in the gadget category. So there you go. We did do that session, after all. So I look forward to seeing you in the next week or so, and Lord willing and the creeks don't rise, and note, we've got new music on the podcast. Our intro and outro music is done by Mister Dave Evans, and it's beautiful music called Soul Strings, and it's the acoustical journey of healing. So enjoy that music as we go out today, and I'll see you next time.
