Show Notes

How do you cope when you are struggling with your mental health?

In this episode of From Survivor to Thriver, we sat down with Louise McMilan, to talk about her mental health struggles while battling cancer and how she now uses her experience to help other people overcome their struggles by finding healthy ways to cope and live life more fully.

Louise McMilan is an Inspirational Speaker on her personal experience of mental health and breast cancer. She suffered from limiting self-belief and a lack of self-confidence for most of her life which often led to feelings of hopelessness, anxiety, and depression.

In 2017, she was diagnosed with breast cancer, and shortly after her first chemo, she had to have major emergency surgery for appendicitis. Her tough times and years in the wilderness truly defined her and she shares her story to help other people view the world a little bit differently.

She is the co-founder of Louise McMilan Coaching, working with single women to help them get unstuck and reignite their self-belief and confidence. Ultimately Louise's passion is to empower others to 'live life more fully' on their terms.

In today’s episode we cover:

  • Why Louise decided to start helping others
  • Self-talk vs. exterior talk
  • Negative confirmation bias
  • Healthy coping mechanisms for seasonal affective disorder
  • The importance of having someone to talk to
  • Setting boundaries with others and ourselves
  • Tips for dealing with negative thoughts
