21. Sami’s Home Birth Stories: Taking Control of Your Birth Experience
In today’s episode, I sit down with Sami Garrett to dive into her home birth stories! I’ve been hearing bits and pieces of her birth stories, and I’m super excited to finally sit down and hear it all. These stories are inspiring, especially considering she’s from a small town where midwives and home births aren’t the norm. People tend to think home births are scary, taboo, and unsafe, but that couldn’t be farther from the truth.
Sami also became a published author when her first daughter was born. Her children’s book, Gertrude and Daisy’s Great Basin Adventure, takes kids on a wild trip back in time! While camping in present-day Nevada, Gertrude and Daisy find themselves on a wild adventure. Their curiosity over an arrowhead lying in a dry lake bed takes them back 11,000 years to a vastly different world full of extinct plants and animals. They make a new friend who helps them on their journey home and they encounter a few surprises along the way!
In today’s episode, we’re talking about:
- Sami and her husband’s love story
- How she and her husband ended up putting down roots in Montana
- The importance of interviewing potential midwives before choosing one
- How mindset plays a role in shaping your birth experience
- The importance of educating yourself on physiological birth
- Sami’s most important piece of advice: educating yourself and being your own advocate
Sami is certainly breaking the mold in her small Montana town. She’s proving that home births are a safe option and that there’s more to childbirth than just the traditional hospital route. You can make your birth experience exactly what you want as long as you take the steps to bring it to light.
