The bilingual Podcast accompanying the METIS project on intercultural wisdom literature and wisdom practices. To be found on www.metis.ethz.ch. The podcast covers the wide range of wisdom traditions, such as Daoism, the Stoa, skeptical traditions, and many more. In addition to the main currents, authors, works and topics we talk about with academic experts, we also interview people in meditation, wisdom training and other wisdom practices. Last but not least, we provide information about the methodology of the Metis Project and address your comments and critique in the "wisdom tasks". The podcasts are held in German and English. We provide German and English transcripts on our homepage. There you will also find further material in the form of essays, classics of wisdom literature and much more. The project was founded in 2022 in Zurich, Switzerland. Michael Hampe, Professor for philosophy at ETH Zurich is the initiator of the project.

Der zweisprachige Podcast, der das METIS-Projekt über interkulturelle Weisheitsliteratur und Weisheitspraktiken begleitet. Zu finden auf www.metis.ethz.ch. Der Podcast deckt das breite Spektrum der Weisheitstraditionen ab, wie z.B. den Daoismus, die Stoa, skeptische Traditionen und viele mehr. Neben den Hauptströmungen, Autoren, Werken und Themen, über die wir mit akademischen Experten sprechen, interviewen wir auch Menschen in der Meditation, im Weisheitstraining und anderen Weisheitspraktiken. Nicht zuletzt informieren wir über die Methodik des Metis-Projekts und gehen in den "Weisheitsaufgaben" auf Ihre Kommentare und Kritik ein. Die Podcasts sind in deutscher und englischer Sprache gehalten. Deutsche und englische Transkripte stellen wir auf unserer Homepage zur Verfügung. Dort finden Sie auch weiteres Material in Form von Essays, Klassikern der Weisheitsliteratur und vieles mehr. Das Projekt wurde 2022 in Zürich, Schweiz, gegründet. Michael Hampe, Professor für Philosophie an der ETH Zürich, ist der Initiator des Projekts.

Many people only know war from stories. From books, films, maybe even from the stories of relatives and acquaintances.
If you think about the war in Ukraine and the discussions about it in the media, on the one hand the war seems close because we are inundated with huge amounts of images and video material on social media, but on the other hand the war, which is taking place virtually on our doorstep, is somehow far away from the Europeans' point of view. Or it can be easily suppressed from our own and the media's attention. It then seems far away, although it is not in any sense.
Olivier Del Fabbro was in Ukraine for research purposes and as a journalist and can at least bring the war into focus for us from his perspective. Del Fabbro was not a combatant, yet he is not only an academic theorist of the war, but also a participant. He teaches us something about the complexity of war, which is not just about firing cannons, but takes over people's entire lives, and is perhaps itself an undesirable and yet seemingly ineradicable way of life?

Viele Menschen kennen Krieg nur aus Erzählungen. Aus Büchern, Filmen, vllt. auch aus den Erzählungen von Verwandten und Bekannten.
Wenn man an den Ukrainekrieg denkt und an die Diskussionen darüber in den Medien, scheint der Krieg einerseits nahe, weil man mit Unmengen Bild- und Videomaterial in den Social Media überflutet wird, andererseits, ist der Krieg, der ja quasi vor unserer Haustüre stattfindet, aus Sicht der Europäer, doch irgendwie weit weg. Bzw. er lässt sich gut verdrängen aus der eigenen und auch aus der medialen Aufmerksamkeit. Er wirkt dann weit weg, obwohl er das in keinem Sinne ist.
Olivier Del Fabbro war zu Forschungszwecken und als Journalist in der Ukraine und kann uns zumindest aus seiner Perspektive den Krieg in den Fokus rücken. Del Fabbro war kein Kombattant, gleichwohl ist er nicht nur akademischer Theoretiker des Krieges, sondern auch Teilnehmer. Mir ihm lernen wir etwas über die Komplexität des Krieges, der nicht lediglich aus Kanonenfeuer besteht, sondern die ganze Lebenswelt der Menschen vereinnahmt, ja vielleicht selbst eine nicht wünschenswerte und dennoch anscheinend unausrottbare Lebensform ist?
