The discussion also touches on the importance of sharing positive stories to build trust within the community.

  • Elected officials should allow law enforcement to lead during crises.
  • Community engagement is essential for building trust.
  • Public information officers play a critical role in communication strategies.
  • Storytelling is key to effective communication in law enforcement.

Julie's unique career path spans from an Emmy & Edward R. Murrow Award-winning Washington, DC, television news reporter to the world of law enforcement media relations, where she served two large suburban DC departments as a lead spokesperson and communications strategist. Julie began training police public information officers across the country in 2012, became a regular guest lecturer at the FBI National Academy, served as Senior Media Advisor for the International Association of Chiefs of Police, and now focuses full time (and then some) on Julie Parker Communications.
