Reverse, Reset, Restore
This is for all of us who have been wounded by our own (and others) judgements and expectations, who have listened to those inner voices and believed the lies we've sold ourselves and for those who truly want to love and honour who you were always meant to be. If you've struggled with self-acceptance, poor body image and a belief system that is no longer serving you (if it ever did!), then this podcast is your reminder that you're not alone and you can choose to make changes - from your health and wellbeing, to your thoughts and the way you move in the world.
Reverse, Reset, Restore
How Your Thinking Is Like Playing A Game Of Snakes And Ladders.
Hello dear one! Welcome to Episode 15 where we are exploring 10 common cognitive distortions, more simply known as negative thinking patterns and how we can overcome these automatic, subconscious thoughts.
I've likened them to the snakes, or chutes, in the childhood game, Snakes and Ladders. In this analogy, the game board is our life. The roll of the dice are our conscious decisions. The ladders are the positive steps, the changes we make in the way we think, feel and behave. And the snakes? Or chutes or slides, whichever you prefer to call them, well they are our distorted thinking patterns.
All of us will experience variations of these cognitive distortions and most of the time, they'll just be fleeting visitors in our mind. However, these cognitive distortions have a sneaky habit of becoming automatic thoughts. That means that if we have entertained them enough in our thinking, consciously or not, they spontaneously appear at the first sign of trouble.
I hope you enjoy this episode. I've written an accompanying blog and have an infographic for these 10 types of cognitive distortions over on my website.
