They kick things off examining President Trump's recent address to Congress, offering sharp observations about the deteriorating decorum in political discourse. "Democrats are trying to match Trump's unprofessionalism, and I think that's hurting them more than it's helping them," David notes, setting the tone for their no-holds-barred political commentary. From Gavin Newsom's podcast missteps to complex budget negotiations, they dissect the political landscape with refreshing candor.

Basketball fans will appreciate their passionate breakdown of the upcoming NCAA tournament. The hosts analyze Tennessee's inconsistent performances, Duke's impressive form, and Auburn's surprising dominance with the expertise of lifelong fans. "I am happy that Bruce Pearl is finally getting his due," they acknowledge, while debating whether teams like Clemson might be this year's tournament dark horses.

The conversation takes a nostalgic turn when they reflect on high school experiences and reunions, sharing vulnerably about reconnecting with people from their past. "I hated high school. I really did," David confesses, sparking a relatable discussion about our complicated relationships with former versions of ourselves. Their reminiscing extends to Kevin Smith's filmography and classic 90s pop culture, celebrating everything from "Clerks" to "Chasing Amy" with infectious enthusiasm.

What makes this episode special is the authentic friendship that shines through every topic. Whether they're imagining how George Carlin would respond to today's politics or sharing updates about their children's major life transitions, Jeff and David create a space where listeners feel like they're part of an intimate conversation between friends.

Speaker 1

Sorry , we had a little blip out there . Friends , there , friends . Uh , so you were saying now that it's here , yeah , now it's here , he's just .

Speaker 2

I mean he , he wants it to , he wants , he wants to get back to state and he wants it to . I think , yeah , the swan song oh , so you ?

Speaker 1

you mean the extended remix season ? Yes , he wants that .

Speaker 2

Yes , he wants to . He wants to go as far as they possibly can , so but yeah , that's where my goddamn dog barking in the background again .

Speaker 1

We had that in episode 35 , too .

Speaker 2

I really didn't . I think you and I are the only ones here . I think . No , it actually . What say you , anderson ? Do you hear the damn dog ? Yes , tell us .

Speaker 1

To our listener in Ukraine what's ?

Speaker 2

the story on that . What about you ?

Speaker 1

Oh me , I'm just plugging along , man . You know , just uh uh kind of watching anxiously as to . You know , as we're trying , the federals are trying to get the budget going and everything like that and , of course , you know , because I take such a large volume of medicaid .

Speaker 1

Um , you know , yeah , I watch that intently and a lot of question marks , a lot of question marks right now , like you know , and and uh , so , but you know , we , we just keep trucking along and , yeah , that's all . I watch that intently , a lot of question marks , a lot of question marks right now , but we just keep trucking along . It's all you can do . It's a rough

Current Political Landscape

Speaker 1

time as a business owner . Yeah , I bet . And then the stock market . One day we have tariffs , another day we don't .

Speaker 2

Someone needs to be on a Prozac at this point , I know , did you watch the address to congress ?

Speaker 1

this week . I did so . How long did you last I ? I watched it all the way through .

Speaker 2

Okay , I got about 45 minutes . Yeah , I , I watched it all the way through . Um , I was . I've always gone into these things with you know , no matter who the president is . It's just kind of like a usually it's just an applause fest and , you know , nothing really is said . But I felt this one had a different energy to it , good and bad . You know . The one thing I hate that Democrats are doing is they're trying to match Trump's unprofessionalism , and I think that's hurting them more than it's helping them , because you almost kind of .

Speaker 1

I will agree with that to a point . Yes .

Speaker 2

I mean now with Trump . It's almost expected he's going to make slight comments which I don't agree with .

Speaker 1

No , I just Like . There's just a lack . Of you know , it's funny with mike johnson . Oh , I will maintain decorum here in the . You know well , start with your boss , dude right , I mean there's just no need to . It's just things that were said , that didn't need to be said but it was it was , I was going into it .

Speaker 2

I lasted about 45 minutes yeah , and it came on too late . Anyway , like why ?

Speaker 1

like I'm like wait , wasn't supposed to start 9? .

Speaker 2

It was like 9.20 before we really got rolling Right .

Speaker 1

But it was basically Trump's greatest hits .

Speaker 2

Yeah . You know coming now on you know , if you buy now , we'll give you a second album .

Speaker 1

Trump gives you the future releases , but no , it was all of that .

Speaker 2

Now do they normally do it so quickly into a term like ?

Speaker 1

well , this is no longer called the state of , this is not called the state of the union , but this is , yes , they do , because I know obama did one right after um , I think right after he won the 2012 election okay , so to me that's the one where the guy stood up and said you lied , yeah and um but you know how do I feel about the democrat wearing all pink , the signs I you know , I guess if it makes you feel better , that's fine , because I will flip the other way and say , okay .

Speaker 1

Well , yeah , last time joe biden did one . Like don't we have a picture of lauren bobert and marjorie tay , taylor Greene , looking like two fucking baboons .

Speaker 2

You know what I mean . They acted like idiots .

Speaker 1

So that's just I just . But the one thing that I have embraced a lot many more podcasts now because I'm caught up on everybody that I listen to . So I'm John Stewart , the weekly show .

Speaker 2

Nice .

Speaker 1

And .

Speaker 2

I'm ready for him to run for president . I am too .

Speaker 1

Yeah , and then I listen to Midas Touch .

Speaker 2

Okay .

Speaker 1

Which finally beat Joe Rogan in the podcast .

Speaker 2

Nice .

Speaker 1

So and but Midas Touch is a little , they're a lot . You like you , you need to be five drinks in again , you know to just like . It's kind of like semi doom scrolling and everything and everything , but it's , it's um , they , you know it's .

Speaker 1

What I like about all the podcasts I listened to is that they don't cut the Democrats any slack , because they're all you know , them and positive America and all those guys are . All the Democrats are doing nothing and yes , it kind of feels that way . I . I think they have no idea what to do and especially I'm I'm hoping that we get to day 100 and then we get the whole listen to me .

Speaker 2

I did this . I did the more than george washington did in the first 100 days . I'm the best guy ever you know which will happen , no matter what , which will probably happen some way or no matter what there'll be a truth social or or he'll do an oval , like is he supposed to do an oval office thing today or something .

Speaker 1

I read that I'm not sure it's like I am seeing you too much , like yeah , you know , I mean I and he wants it that way he does . He wants to be in our face , so , but um he'll definitely come there .

Speaker 2

So the job report came out for february increased like 150 000 , so he's going to be everywhere oh , okay yeah , well , there you go yeah , it was a 90 job .

Speaker 1

Report said we had an increase like , yeah , but it was 93 of the private sector and not government jobs , so he's really going to be losing his well and there's a theory going about like I listened to pod save america when I was at the gym this morning and they talk about like yeah , you can fuck with the numbers and the gdp and everything like that .

Speaker 1

So you know , and then I don't know , it was just , it just was a lot to listen to and I'm just like yeah , you know what ? Um I'm sober and um I'm tired and I'm gonna go to bed .

Speaker 2

So well , I I just finished watching the first episode of daredevil oh yeah right , yeah , right when it ended , right he started , so I was up .

Speaker 1

So how was Daredevil ?

Speaker 2

It's fantastic . I can't wait for the rest of them .

Speaker 1

Does it do ?

Speaker 2

It exceeded my expectations for episode one of I was worried that they were going to try to rehash a lot of shit to get people caught up if you didn't watch the Netflix series . Nope , they didn't give a fuck , which was awesome .

Speaker 1

So like right out of the gate , did they have Foggy ?

Speaker 2

and all of them . Yes , and it was . You know , no introductions .

Speaker 1

Okay , it was just seamless , like we just picked up where we left off , correct ?

Speaker 2

Yeah and hands down . Dude , that is the best Kingpin in the history of Kingpins .

Speaker 1

That couldn't be cast any better . He's just such a great actor .

Speaker 2

But going back to the address , the thing that again it keeps . It is so bothersome for me to see from the Democratic Party like the 22 senators putting out that stupid ass video , all of the same video , and they're holding the little microphones . Now whoever's telling them to do that ? But they gave the same speech and they all put it out at the same time . So somebody wrote them this speech and said , hey , put this on your social media account at this time . And it was all at the same time and it was cringingy . And then you have the choose your fighter thing . Have you seen that one ?

Speaker 2

no oh no . So you got choose your fighter . And it's the women , uh , of congress , and they're all like bouncing around like they're video game characters , like total knockout the video game . Yes , they're all like they're just all like just kind of bouncing to like eight bit music behind them and it's not doing anything , like I just don't , it's just driving me insane .

Speaker 1

Yes , yeah , and it's choose your fighter . That's donkey kong , yeah , but it's , it's brutal .

Speaker 2

I I just don't understand . And and now it seems like they're pushing jasmine crockett to be like the face of the democratic party , and I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing or what Well , I had been saying up until last night that I feel the face of the Democratic Party should be Gavin Newsom .

Speaker 1

Did you listen to his podcast ? I didn't listen to the podcast , but I've read all the reports about he's kind of shit .

Speaker 2

the bed on that one , yeah , the worst person possible he could have had on as a guest . He picks her His number one , and that was Charlie Kirk .

Speaker 1

Yeah .

Speaker 2

Charlie Kirk just fucking obliterated him . I didn't listen to it . I mean it was bad . I mean by the end of the month Gavin Newsom is going to be a Republican .

Speaker 1

Is he back on everything that he's ever been standing for as governor of California ? I think that that's a part of the identity politics that the Democratic Party . You've got to check the boxes and I will go out on a limb on this and I don't want to get too far down the road here , so just jerk that leash on me when we need to . I think the trans female athletes in sports is a problem . There's no good answer . I mean , my wife and I have gone 12 rounds over this .

Speaker 2

Oh , I know , you witnessed it once , you know I mean , and it's .

Speaker 1

I just retreat back to . I don't think there's an answer that will make anybody happy , but I understand completely what Gavin Newsom said when he said it's not fair . It isn't that people who were born biologically male . There's just different musculature , there's different . Yet I mean the physiology is all different . And like for a cisgendered female to have trained her entire life to be like a volleyball star or something like that , or track or swimming or something , and now you're racing against someone who biologically was male , like you're fucked . Yeah , and again to , to , again the lgbtq community . I'm I'm not , like , I'm not anti-trans rights , but this is one thing that is a very problematic position in a social position ?

Speaker 1

There's no answer no one wins from this .

Speaker 2

No , because if you go the way that you're saying just like they shouldn't be a part of it , but then the argument is well , yes , they should , then that goes against women's rights .

Speaker 1

Right .

Speaker 2

And it's just like there's no good answer , no good , and then you get to jk rowling and how everyone's eviscerated hurt .

Speaker 1

I get what jk rowling was saying and I'm like I . I guess I don't understand why cisgendered women aren't like more you know , I have a problem with being called a menstruating person than a woman , like I was here first here , first , right , you know .

Speaker 2

Yeah , I mean , it was the whole reason why Title IX came about .

Speaker 1

Exactly , and so , again , there's no good answer on this . No , I don't know what this is going to do for Gavin in the future . I kind of think his hopes of a 2028 presidential campaign are probably out the window .

Speaker 2

What do you think ? Do you think it's a good look or a bad look just for even a mayor to have a podcast ? Uh especially of one the size of california where he's just all in his jeans in his house just chit-chatting away in the middle of the afternoon .

Speaker 1

I think if he wants to appear kind of as a real person .

Speaker 2

And yeah , I guess it depends on the frequency that he's on I guess yeah yeah , I mean , I'm not saying , they can't have lives , but I just I don't know how that's perceived . I don't know if that's a good look or a bad look , like well , it's fighting policy , you know . It's like I talked about , you know , in the last episode .

Speaker 1

I talked about a colleague , another local orthodontist , who's out there doing the lunch and learns with all the people and everything like that , but also their practice just every day . It's like real after real , after real , like I'm like do you guys ? Yeah , see patients , right ?

Speaker 2

you're like that's , that's not what I'm wondering like I'm like it's kind of like in , like covid right when everyone . All the hospitals were supposed to be just covered up with death and you have nurses doing tiktoks , right , exactly . Yeah , like wait , this is not a good optic here .

Speaker 1

Yeah , um so I don't know . I think if your governor has too much time to do a podcast , then he's not doing his job , right ?

Speaker 2

yeah , that well , I feel the same way , and that's just me just talking . It's not like I've seen data on or anything , sure no , I haven't either . It's just one of those things like I don't know , but I think he's kind of he's had a little shit .

Speaker 1

The bed moment , yeah with this , yeah and , um , I I don't know where he's gonna go with this , uh , where he can go with this going forward . I do , I think these I don't know . I mean , there are people that have been damaged goods and then resurrected themselves for a presidential campaign . Still All the time . I mean Bill Clinton's a perfect example of that . Yeah , Bill Clinton made it possible for Donald Trump to get elected .

Speaker 1

I mean you know that's why Donald Trump got to be president . It was like , well , fuck , we could deal with a guy that ran around on his wife the first time around .

Speaker 2

You know , we just you know . If the guy wants to grab the pussy , that's we'll do that too . We're used to that anyway um what are your thoughts on jasmine crockett , because she's getting a big push right now I don't have an opinion because I it's the first time I've heard the name .

Speaker 1

Really , yeah , that's how I mean . My news following is I guess it's selective right now .

Speaker 2

Like I said , I got you you know , we , dave and I , always have our debrief before we start doing this a little bit just to catch up and see what's going on in each other's lives .

Speaker 1

Right now , my focus has been Medicaid Sure and with this budget and whatnot , you can give a fuck about it , congressman . Right now I could give a shit about it , Like 2028 , just like , like I'm exhausted after you know six weeks yeah , you know , or a month of of of trump presidency . I'm just , there's no eight weeks . Yeah , six eight weeks , something like that yeah .

Speaker 1

I'm exhausted already yeah you know , and rapid fire it's been rapid fire and again , like I said before , in a way that you almost have to be a little bit impressed because I didn't see it coming .

Speaker 2

No , I'm super impressed with it , you know I'm not like if you're gonna give me , he's like an approval rating , like I don't have one right no because I think a lot of it's because I honestly thought he would just get inaugurated .

Speaker 1

He'd say okay , I won a second time , and then and then go play golf go play golf in mar-a-lago

March Madness: College Basketball Talk

Speaker 1

for the next four years , right and years , and not do much of anything , right ? So where we stand on the budget is it looks like what's going to happen is a continuing resolution , that it's just going to be same old , same old . Spending will stay the same as it is right now and I'm like , okay , that's fine .

Speaker 2

Right .

Speaker 1

And that kicks the can down to September . I guess I'm tired of kicking the can down the road . It'd be nice if somebody could do something definitive , sure , and let's just cement it in place for like a year two years , something like that .

Speaker 2

Let it cook . We're changing the Band-Aid every few months One way or the another .

Speaker 1

let it do what it's going to do , and let's see what happens .

Speaker 2

I agree , yeah , let's get to do and let's see what happens .

Speaker 1

I agree . Yeah , let's get out of politics and let's get to sports .

Speaker 2

All right , march is the greatest month .

Speaker 1

March is the greatest month ever .

Speaker 2

Tennessee , alabama , another butt clencher . And Tennessee wins off their last second three-pointer by the least person I thought was going to shoot the ball . And then they turn around and shit the bed at Ole Miss Lose by two on a missed layup right at the end of the game . So it's like this happens with me , with Tennessee basketball at times they win one to get us in the right spot . 48 hours later you lose and you lose everything . So , granted a two seed's , a two seed , they may still end up getting the one seed , but God , it hurt man . It's like just win two in a row and you'll be fine , but yes . But one thing I saw about Duke and kind of is concerning for me is I think they said 12 SEC teams have played more ranked teams Q1 .

Speaker 2

Quad one Than Duke has . Yeah , and that was concerning when I read that .

Speaker 1

I don't know how true that is , because the SEC is like I think for the NCAA tournament it will just come down to placement .

Speaker 2

Yeah , I agree , the matchups , you know the matchups , yeah .

Speaker 1

Yeah , so I have to say that since the Clemson game , duke has been nothing short of impressive . Oh yeah , like they're great , I'm . So it's Carolina tomorrow at 6 30 PM .

Speaker 2

Is it really ?

Speaker 1

It is North Carolina , part two .

Speaker 2

All right .

Speaker 1

In at the Dean Dome .

Speaker 2

North Carolina's a JV team this year .

Speaker 1

dude , they yeah , I again . I I've said this a few times to people that it's just not fun beating up on North Carolina when they're having a bad year , like I would rather beat them .

Speaker 2

Yeah , they're talking about extending him .

Speaker 1

Are you kidding me ?

Speaker 2

The last thing I saw was extending Hubert to 2030 , and I just started dying laughing .

Speaker 1

I was like more power to you , because the definition of insanity is not doing the same thing over and expecting a different result , and I'm just guessing that he's too much of a . He's like the holly warlick right .

Speaker 2

It's like when we can't fire hubert . You know what I mean . That's a good reference .

Speaker 1

You know what I mean . It's like god , I'm not gonna be the dick , fuck the fire , hubert .

Speaker 2

You know what ?

Speaker 1

I mean , yeah , but if you but they've done it before . Matt dougherty you know uh um , I guess the last hold on . Why am I ? Oh , that was something . My daughter doesn't know that I'm recording a podcast I wonder if we actually got that bell sound if there's a phone noise that was impressive .

Speaker 2

That was impressive . I was like what did I do ? I ?

Speaker 1

tell you what ? No , I gotta , let me just . I'll send her a quick text text message saying we're recording a fucking podcast . I don't interrupt you at your work oh , nobody ever considers the fact that I'm at work or doing something yes , this , we are officially in the hobby stage . Yeah , do your kids treat you that way that like , like you don't do shit for a living , so you're at their beck and call it's kind of how it is . For me it's .

Speaker 1

It's the sacrifice of parenting it really is like my daughter will just call me whenever in the middle and she's got legitimate stuff to talk about . So she's going to med school this fall . Actually , let's style this back . Let's talk about sports . Let's get back to my daughter going to med school this fall , but let's talk about sports . So anyway , unc Duke's playing them this weekend . So anyway , unc Duke's playing them this weekend . I will . To me , it will not be a satisfying win if we don't mop the floor with them and win by 30 points , because we have decimated everybody .

Speaker 2

Is it at Cameron ?

Speaker 1

It is at Dean . Oh , okay , dean Smithnum yeah . Well , that always changes some things it can , but I just let's just go in there , kick the ever-loving shit out of them and be done with this conference season . Yep , I had put in for tickets to the acc tournament and it's just one of those . You know what ? I'm going to los angeles the weekend after that . I'm I just I is it uh ?

Speaker 2

greensboro , atlanta , charlotte , charlotte , okay charlotte .

Speaker 1

So very good , and I'll consider Jesus Christ my daughter . What is the beach code ? It's ?

Speaker 2

Don't give it out over the air .

Speaker 1

Hold on , let me .

Speaker 2

Shit . We definitely need to edit this part out . Huh , I guess we're going to have to do that okay , there we go .

Speaker 1

We apologize for these interruptions from one of the , the eberting scions and uh , goodness , you know , I just live at everyone's beck and call here , you know beach code beach code , but I get a thank you .

Speaker 2

Yeah , at least politeness is good . Politeness is always good Beach code .

Speaker 1

That was irritating .

Speaker 2

But I get a thank you , yeah , at least , politeness is good .

Speaker 1

Politeness is always good . No she's Anyway UNC , we will . I want to mop the floor up with them . I want to stampede through the ACC tournament and walk away with that Just no debate whatsoever .

Speaker 2

I always have . I have two trains of thoughts on that . Sometimes I'm always so afraid of the ACC tournament , especially when you've got a one seed just locked up , like Duke . Is you have nothing to prove ? Do you fucking just bow out and rest yourself for the big one , or do you really just push yourself through to win the tournament and then like it ?

Speaker 1

it's two schools of thought what did we learn from the cbf playoffs ? That's true cfb , cbn , cb , cfb cfb playoffs , that's true I mean the teams that got the buys lost , right , and so now I think for , like the acc tournament , to get a buy . Okay , big fucking deal . Oh yeah , no , no and again all kudos to North Carolina State for the stampede that they did through the .

Speaker 2

ACC tournament last year to get to the you know , yeah , a buy in the first round of the ACC tournament is different , because you're playing day after day after day after day . So , but yeah , I understand , it's just one of those things I , so when's the last ? When's the last time or have I'm sure they've done it when's the last time they won the acc tournament and the natty 92 .

Speaker 1

Okay , as far as I know . No 2010 . Also okay , because I was at that at .

Speaker 2

That was that big one that they came back from like maryland , wasn't it ?

Speaker 1

like maryland was up like 100 , no that was that big one that they came back from Maryland , wasn't it ? Maryland was up like 100 .

Speaker 2

No , that was 2001 , when we won that year , okay , but yes , we were down to Maryland . That was incredible .

Speaker 1

No , it was 2010 because Dad and I went to see the ACC tournament , and that was in Greensboro that year .

Speaker 2

Okay , I feel like it should be in Greensboro every year . We almost ran over John Shire's dad .

Speaker 1

No , that was at the tournament that was at the tournament .

Speaker 2

Yeah , so no , but the SEC tournament is going to be wild as shit .

Speaker 1

It's going to be something to watch . It's going to be great watching you guys beat up on each other .

Speaker 2

Oh yeah , and it's going to be bad , bad beat up , I mean because they all won it . I mean , and Auburn are going to kick the shit out of each other tomorrow .

Speaker 1

Do you feel that Auburn is a bit of an overrated number one ?

Speaker 2

I can't say yes to that just due to the fact of who they have beaten , but I also can say that because it's just still not normal to see Auburn only have three losses in a season .

Speaker 1

I am happy that Bruce Pearl is finally getting his due . Yeah , I think he's an astounding .

Speaker 2

I love the guy .

Speaker 1

How do you ?

Speaker 2

not , the guy , just had charisma .

Speaker 1

Oh yeah , when he was here at Tennessee he just Fuck . Yeah , Charisma .

Speaker 2

Every time I see him he's just like . I mean he's coaching his ass off every game . I mean his ass off . And then when he gets interviewed , how do you not like that ?

Speaker 1

I mean , he is the ultimate ex-girlfriend for me and it's like son of a bitch , I really wish we didn't screw that up oh , I don't know if we screwed it up or he screwed it up .

Speaker 2

I think it's a little bit of both you know , looking back on it , like of all the things that have have happened in college sports , you know we're going to give him a , you know a show cause , because he lied about having a barbecue right good god , yeah , for a kid that didn't even come to the school , sure fuck , he'd still be here no , I mean and and of course I asked that question coming from the guy whose team is number two and beat auburn right back in december .

Speaker 1

So I'm like so for me it's like okay , you're number one , but I don't I don't think you're number one because we , we took a piece out of you . Yeah , you know , and I'm surprised how that doesn't factor at all in any of the polls that are done each week . You know , like they're unanimous number one , right ? Pick yeah and I'm like I'm just kind of surprised that like duke doesn't maybe get a vote here or there .

Speaker 2

I get that . So I , I think , I , I definitely , if it comes down to it , it'll be interesting to see them play each other in the tournament what yeah in a in a non , you know , non-home court sure facility . I think that's that's going to be something , but I I mean alabama's damn good flor . Florida's damn good , duke's damn good Tennessee . I keep wanting them to be good and then again they're two-faced for me .

Speaker 1

You'll get there . Yeah , you'll get a Final Four one day .

Speaker 2

Maybe 98 , but whatever .

Speaker 1

No , I mean you know when Kay's final season and then Duke goes to the final four . I'm like I'm at that point , I'm just like screaming , like I wish dad were alive for this because , like we would just be both losing our fucking minds I thought , man for sure , that was just totally scripted .

Speaker 2

You know what I mean .

Speaker 1

Like yeah , okay , oh , and that the final game in the final four is against north carolina , correct ? You know , it's just like oh , yeah , you're going to beat this guy , you're going to beat your rival . Refs were paid . Yeah , it's like make it happen .

Speaker 2

I was all in on it . It blew my mind .

Speaker 1

And for people who want to give me shit about . We ended Coach K's career both at home and in general with a UNC loss . You know what you can have it . You can have it you can have it .

Speaker 2

They're not talking about that shit now . Yeah , they're not talking about that shit now . They're talking about are we going to make the tournament Right ?

Speaker 1

exactly . So what are we talking ? We're talking Duke Clemson .

Speaker 2

Clemson's scary good .

Speaker 1

Clemson is the team that has climbed the ladder . They're the team I'm nervous about in the ACC tournament .

Speaker 2

No one saw them coming , and now here they are and they're not going anywhere . Yeah , that's that team that's got the chip . They do . They have the real chip on the shoulder . Yeah , and those are the teams you've got to fucking worry about . I say all this , and I'm sorry , clemson , that means you're going to get upset in the first round of the NCAA tournament to like Yale or some shit .

Speaker 1

If you're a number four , seed .

Speaker 2

I mean , it's a kiss of death man .

Speaker 1

Four or five , you're in trouble it used to be back in the day , like 30 years ago . It'd be like if Arizona it was guaranteed that , if they were a three or four seed , they would lose .

Speaker 2

There was just not a chance . It didn't matter . When Lou Dolsen finally won it in 97 , I was like thank christ you know , you'd see , like sioux falls university , like yep , there they are , they're gonna beat that , that's right exactly , exactly , but I can't wait . Tournament those , those first two weeks of the NCAA tournament is just unreal . I love it .

Speaker 1

Yeah , I'm going to be in Los Angeles for the first week .

Speaker 2

Whoa .

Speaker 1

The fuck was that Gary ? We got noises and shit coming over our thing all the time Between my daughter texting and trying to call us .

Speaker 2

I don't know , but whatever wish you made at the well , 20 years ago , that fucker finally hit , I was going to tell you .

Speaker 1

What was ? I have no idea . Somebody telling us something .

Speaker 2

I don't see any notifications anywhere , so I guess we're good to go Anyway . Wow .

Speaker 1

Yeah , all right , there you go , there you go . Beauty , that was beauty .

Speaker 2

Clark yeah , all right , there you go , there you go . Beauty , beauty , clark Beauty .

Speaker 1

So yeah , for two seconds , my daughter , I was talking about her for a second . Yeah , Because I think we're done talking about basketball . Sure , Melissa , go to hell Carolina .

Speaker 2

Go to hell .

Speaker 1

Okay , Fuck you Like I wish I could get excited about it . You know what pisses me off most of all the game's on at 6 30 like could you have made it like a four in the afternoon yeah , that is an odd time yeah , like that's just kind of how it's been lately . It's it's just like , okay , I could I get the . You know like I'll do a nine o'clock game on a weeknight . That just it pisses me off like I'm happy with the seven o'clock game .

Speaker 2

Oh yeah , seven o'clock's the wheelhouse , but yeah , tennessee , tennessee . But on the whole this was nine o'clock , right , but on the weekend .

Speaker 2

Like really you gotta do a fucking evening game really yeah no , I don't see that so anyway , I either want the noon or the four o'clock the noon game is the most awesome game on the planet because you know you know noon games for football have always kind of sucked , but noon game for basketball man , you're in and out done by 1 , 32 o'clock and you got your whole day exactly yeah , exactly , yeah , um so , yeah , so we I touched on , since my daughter decided to invade our , our podcast a little bit uh so we didn't tie this into the government a little bit .

Speaker 1

Um , and their budget and whatnot is is that you know she's going to med school this fall and she's filled out the financial aid forms and everything like that , because I told her , you know , after paying for 80% of private school tuition and paying for all of college , You're out , I'm out .

Speaker 2

Yeah , I'm done . You've done your part . Sir , you want money ?

Speaker 1

go to your mother , um , go to your , go to your maternal grandmother , um , you know , talk to them about that . So , and I said I think it's important you have some skin in the game . I did advise her to look at one of the military scholarships , um , but you know , what I experience with my children these days is a lot of great advice coming out of my mouth that is just ignored completely .

Speaker 2

So that's so weird how that happened , but I've asked her like so you know now this week ?

Speaker 1

yesterday I was waiting for the executive order bringing the end to the Department of Education and that never happened .

Speaker 2

I think it happened about an hour and a half ago . You think so really , yeah , I think so . I may have read it wrong .

Speaker 1

Okay , sorry , all right , I could be dead wrong , okay how would you feel about being put in a job position told to you're going to decimate your entire . We want you to decimate your entire wing . Pretty wild , yeah , wilder than wwe

Reflections on High School and Reunions

Speaker 1

. Yeah , so almost , linda .

Speaker 2

Our prayers are with you , man you want to see an eye-opener at mr mcmahon ? Yeah , that's uh on netflix documentary . I haven't seen it . No , yeah , dude , holy , that dude is fucked up . I mean , he built an empire man , but he it is crazy to me . I could have read it totally wrong . I could have read it just that he was going to do it . I'd say that that's probably what it was . Yeah , I don't see it anywhere yeah it'd be everywhere .

Speaker 2

I read it wrong . Yeah , it was probably like he . I read it wrong . Yeah , it was probably like he's planning on it and I was just like , oh , okay , yeah .

Speaker 1

Everyone's just kind of like . I thought this was supposed to happen on Thursday and then it didn't .

Speaker 2

It's just like the Epstein list . How many fucking times have we said that's coming out ?

Speaker 1

Right , exactly , yeah , that I would be interested . I want it to like I don't care who falls .

Speaker 2

Let me tell you I will say it again p diddy and the epstein files . I do not care who's on those lists and who falls . I don't care , but I want to know heard chef , and they should fucking fall for it yeah , no , I fucking child trafficking and doing all the things , the horrific things that I have heard that it's taking place right obviously it did like man I don't care who it is man , they need to be put underneath the prison I know I agree , 100 yeah and that's what scares me the most is because if the more and more time that it's said it's been looked at and it's still not being put forth , that means there's some scared people of like you know what ?

Speaker 1

It's the most nonpartisan thing you've seen on the planet , because it embraces both sides . Yeah , and everyone's trying to just cover their tracks .

Speaker 2

Yeah , and it's just one of those things it's like I think they're more worried about like , what is the actual repercussions of this ?

Speaker 1

Like , if this person goes down and this person goes down , this person goes down like what the hell's gonna ? Well , it's kind of like the whole q anon thing where they , you know , have held on to this . There's this cabal of people who are , you know , trial child trafficking people through pizza parlors and stuff like that and crazy shit like that , and it's okay , and it's it's okay , and it's it's a .

Speaker 1

it's a big argument . The right has used to advance their agenda . But what happens when all that's revealed and you find out there were plenty of people on your side , and there are , and there are , and there are probably the big man is there .

Speaker 2

He's probably there , yeah .

Speaker 1

Yeah , so how much grace are you willing to extend ?

Speaker 2

You talking like me , personally In general to you or rhetorically , oh rhetorically , who knows Right , you know , who knows what you're going to get the mob to do ? Or say , right , I have no clue on that . Yeah , personally , fuck them Like burn it down . Yeah , I mean again , if it's half the shit that I have seen and heard , if half of it's true , like man they don't deserve shit . You know what I mean .

Speaker 1

Yeah , I hear you , totally hear you . I don't know .

Speaker 2

I get passionate about that one man .

Speaker 1

No , I mean , there's just like fuck up shit that you and I would go to jail for . Do not pass , go , do not collect $200 . Absolutely , we would be in fucking jail in two seconds . Right , Because of these people who there are , they can just do whatever the hell they want Like seriously , child trafficking to me is the most despicable fucking thing you can do on this planet Like period .

Speaker 2

And you know , I put my son in that , I put my daughter in that , like I cannot imagine , if you look to your left one day and they're fucking gone and there's no trace of sure , like what in the hell right , and I don't know it . Just it . Just it needs to , it needs to come out , man . I want to see it badly right and , like I said , I don't care who it is man , you know , one of my greater idols in life is larry bird . But if that , my son bitch , was on the list like fuck you .

Speaker 1

Yeah , no , I know I . I totally agree . I don't care who you are you know you need to go down for it well , and even in , like you know , when you roll this back to like the me too era , you know , and all the people who fell by the wayside with that , and for me it's like okay , well , how long do you put some of these people in time out before you say , okay , maybe they've learned , you know ? When do we give Kevin Spacey another role and a shot at having a career again ?

Speaker 1

You know , when do we ? You know , and some people have been extended that grace better than others , like Louis CK , allowed to resume his comedian career . I will say , you know , I have to kind of applaud it because it's a part of this fuck you people , that's part of my persona where his first special was called I'm Sorry , and it was anything but oh sure , and people actually probably watched it .

Speaker 1

Yes , expecting an apology ? Yeah , so you know . So he's allowed back in , and you know , I mean , chappelle said a few things and whatnot . I , I think chapelle was teflon . I , oh yeah , I think he can do whatever the fuck he wants and it doesn't matter at the end of the day , man he made .

Speaker 2

Did you see his joke on saturday night live ? No , being like being at the pd parties no oh , you need to look that , oh yeah I'm not even going to attempt to talk about it , but it was some speaking of . Did you watch the os ?

Speaker 1

Oscars at all , no , so I did Like it was the first time in years I'd watched At least I've watched little bits of them here and there Like I saw the Will Smith slap of Chris Rock .

Speaker 2

I thoroughly enjoyed last year's because there were a lot of movies that I'd actually damn seen , that I was kind of invested in to see where it was going to go . But this year I didn't see any of them . The only one that I even heard of was Substance .

Speaker 1

Wicked is the one that we saw .

Speaker 2

Okay , I had not heard of Wicked , but I never saw it and I just didn't want to tune in . I just didn't have any investment on it .

Speaker 1

Okay , so Conan O'Brien needs to host the Oscars from here on out . I've always loved .

Speaker 2

Conan he's fucking great .

Speaker 1

Brian needs to host the oscars from here on . I've always loved . He's fucking great . He was so fucking great and like he , he got those jabs in there , like he got a p diddy jab in there , and I mean it was just . It was just fucking brilliant . The shit that he did right , um , you know , and and it was . It was a well put together show . Like again , I didn't . I don't know what the fuck anora was , or right , you know , or yeah , I mean , I'm sure I'll watch .

Speaker 1

I'm curious about the substance yeah , I definitely want to see just because I like seeing a venerable actress like demi moore kind of get her due . Like there's that other , um , the one that pamela anderson's in , that she's got a lot of accolades for called the last the last dancer , or something like that . It's about a vegas dancer and she's you know , and it's you know how she's in this mindset now or no makeup , nothing like that , like gone is yeah , no more sex bot , you know more sex pot shit you know um I .

Speaker 2

I'm shocked that because even though I didn't watch , I still kind of follow who wins , and Demi Moore and Timothy went in the sag yeah . Went in the sag and Demi .

Speaker 1

Moore won everything up until the .

Speaker 2

I thought it was a done deal and that was the only reason why I wanted to see it Sure . Because I figured her Oscar speech was going to be a top shelf kind of thing .

Speaker 1

Right .

Speaker 2

But neither one of them won it . I was like what the hell ?

Speaker 1

I'm glad I didn't watch , because that would have been the only reason why I watched , and I think Adrian Brody has come under a lot of fire because his speech went way too long .

Speaker 2

It was the longest ever , evidently , which is kind of mind-blowing .

Speaker 1

Yeah , and apparently they . What is that ? Two ?

Speaker 2

minutes .

Speaker 1

Yeah , right , exactly , it's like don't play me off , no , play me off , and you know , and it's just uh , no , but it was .

Speaker 2

It was an entertaining oscars , um , good performances , the , but I think conan held it all together and I'm just like yeah , this is your guy , you need to use what I while what I always enjoy about a host doing those shows if you don't hear anything about them , you know after the rest of the week , you did your job right , you were perfect .

Speaker 2

Yeah , you know , it's the time where you hear them like oh well , this you know , this host was shit or you know , like the ann hathaway and franco oh yeah , you know that that was a fucking train wreck blazed out of his mind , you know obviously you didn't do a good job there yeah you know , and then there's either there's some hosts that do too much right you know um so I I think there's been a couple times with billy crystal like he went too far out , not in a bad way , but it was I would be happy , though , to see billy come back and do it host an oscar yeah , you know , but I think when you again , if you end up talking more about the host than the actual actors and actresses right , or is it just act , I don't know but the the actors , then you know I think you you messed up with it .

Speaker 2

But right , conan's always been great man .

Speaker 1

I've fucking been a fan there was the one year that there was one year that letterman hosted . Yeah , you know , I mean , they're just some people that aren't meant to do it .

Speaker 2

Right Letterman was too quirky .

Speaker 1

He always was .

Speaker 2

Yeah .

Speaker 1

Letterman was the shit , though . Oh man , that's the way , my guy .

Speaker 2

That was some of the greater nights of my life man just being up with a little bit of a buzz watching . Letterman .

Speaker 1

Now can you even stay up late to watch a late-night show anymore .

Speaker 2

I can't even tell you the last time . I can't even tell you the last time I couldn't even tell you .

Speaker 1

It's funny because it was my previous relationship where we would watch late night shows .

Speaker 2

It used to be something I would have on to put me to sleep .

Speaker 1

We were big Chelsea Lately fans on . E , and sometimes it would be like on weeknights we'd turn out the lights at one in the morning and whatnot . I can't even dream .

Speaker 2

I can't fathom doing that anymore . I would be so irate that next day . I went to bed after the Tennessee basketball game the other night and it was 11.15 . And I woke up the next day just like fuck that . I'm never doing that again .

Speaker 1

It's like god , no , I think . I think like the latest I can remember on a non-weekend day is like 11 , 45 maybe , and that's because a duke game was at nine o'clock , right , and you're amped up right after the game you know you clobbered them by 33 points you know um yeah and no , and I'm just yeah , sorry I like scared you the other night , though about that .

Speaker 2

The saturday night live uh episode the show . Yeah , I was like turn it on nbc now and you're like fuck what's going on , like I I thought I was sending you to world war three I was like what's going ?

Speaker 1

yeah , yeah , seriously , but it was uh you know , billy joel started it off .

Speaker 2

Oh man , yeah , and no , not billy joel .

Speaker 1

Um , oh my gosh , paul simon sorry , oh right , yeah , yeah , exactly paul simon and sabrina carpenter and yeah , they started off the show they did homeward bound , didn't , yeah , yeah , he did that with george harrison back . Yeah , I was just like man .

Speaker 2

This was awesome and then it turned out to be just a hilarious show I enjoyed sure I enjoyed the hell out of that I thought eddie murphy oh imitating tracy morgan was the greatest thing ever .

Speaker 1

And can you imagine being tracy morgan standing right next to him having that happen ? And how are you not laughing right , did you see ? Him do dolomite no not dolomite , but maybe it was dolomite but , he eddie murphy's movie on netflix where he was , uh , yeah it was Dolomite , but Eddie Murphy's movie on Netflix where he was yeah it was Dolomite .

Speaker 2

No , it's not . You need to , Because him and Tracy Morgan are in that movie . I guarantee you that's how he picked him up . But that movie is really funny . But Eddie Murphy , seeing him and just seeing some of the people that were in the audience just was blowing my mind man .

Speaker 1

So there's another late night show that I just kind of stopped watching when virginia and I got together , just because she's never up that late , right you know ? And to step to one on a saturday night , you know , I mean it's there's just nothing like you can when you can watch it on youtube the next morning right .

Speaker 2

Why am I doing this ? Why am I doing this to myself ?

Speaker 1

right , but um no , I it's uh , but I do miss some of that , like staying up for it when it was an event , yeah , well , and honest to goodness , for me it was social media .

Speaker 2

You know saturday night live at a point in our lives . It was pop culture absolutely like if it didn't , if it didn't show up on saturday night live or be made fun of on saturday night live , it wasn't really truly going on in the world like the cold opens right , like that was what was a weekend update . Yeah , that's what was really telling you what was what was going on . Yeah , um , and you know , my kids will never experience anything like that no I'm shocked . It's been 50 years , right ? I mean , that's what an achievement .

Speaker 1

I don't , I don't expect you ever feel like that's something I mean , and you're not 50 years old , but I mean . For me , you know , that's like oh my god like , like that , just age like so this year is my 30th year . Uh , dental school class reunion .

Speaker 2

Right .

Speaker 1

And , as luck would have it , I will be in Philadelphia as that's happening , because the American Association of Orthodontists annual convention is taking place in Philadelphia that very same weekend , right . So now I'm struggling with do I go ?

Speaker 2

I hear you .

Speaker 1

Because I didn't like dental school all that much and you're very hard pressed to find people who will talk about how great dental school was . Like , and it was a slog fest and it was just get through it , it was get through it .

Speaker 1

The instructors a lot of them were assholes and they just it was like boot camp for four years and I had classmates that I didn't care for either , and you know I I mean I'm connected . It took me a long time to to bring the dental school experience back into my world . Um , there were some dental school classmates that I allowed to connect with me yeah on facebook , right , but it was 2018 when I went up to uh . I was going up to Allentown to speak at my Boy Scout Troops 50th year anniversary .

Speaker 1

They asked me to speak at that . And so I flew into Philly and I've got a friend from dental school who practices just outside Philly , and so we got together around the King of Prussia Mall area and hung out . Before that I had driven up and I went by the dental school and I actually walked in and I haven't been in there since 2001 , and it's when I was in residency no , they really had done a renovation of it and everything , and so I was like okay , and , but you know , it's just like that was then and this is now and , and , and I don't have the same attachment to the dental school experience as I do say to the college experience .

Speaker 2

No , I can't imagine and .

Speaker 1

But then I started letting more people back in the fold . And what ? And some people I'm like why am I even connected to you ? Like you ever have people on facebook ? You're like you're friends with them . You're like why am I friends with you ?

Speaker 2

uh , yes , yes , there are a lot , you know .

Speaker 1

I , I just you know so , so anyway , um , so , yeah , so I I had a friend message me recently and she was well , you know , I'm talking to these people about maybe getting together . Do you want to join up ? And this that I'm like . Well , those people in that list you haven't really . They're not compelling for me to get together with them , right ? I wasn't friends with them in dental school . I haven't stayed in touch with them for the last 30 years yeah , and it's a lifetime they're like who knows what these people are ?

Speaker 1

like I don't care .

Speaker 2

Yeah , I'm coming up on 30 years for my high school next year , oh wow and that just I . I don't . Parts of me is like man . It was yesterday yeah and then just parts of me and just like , oh my god , that's ancient .

Speaker 1

Yeah , it'll be 40 for me in 27 . Okay , yeah .

Speaker 2

Yeah , I mean , that's just ugh . Yeah , that's crazy , yeah , and it's one of those things . I was talking to somebody else about this , but you know the saying of if I only knew , then you know . But man , if you like woke me up in the morning and it was like hey , tomorrow you're gonna be back in high school . I'd fucking cry the rest of the day like I wouldn't want to fucking relive a second of that shit and yet , why do we commemorate it ?

Speaker 1

I know , you know like I hated it .

Speaker 2

I mean I did , I mean I really , I mean there were great times with it . But like the day to day of , like going to your locker and dealing with the social aspects of just going through adolescence , it's like fuck that man no , like I feel that way about the high school thing .

Speaker 1

So I mentioned that I'm going out to los angeles in a couple weeks and so I have you know , and I've talked about them both before I have two friends that um , one of whom writes for moon girl and devil dinosaurs wonaur and won two Emmys for it , and and so I generally get together with them , although I don't think I've told them yet that I'm coming , so like I'm gonna have to drop that probably today they're listening , but the you know , if we roll back to episode 11 , where I talk about rebuilding bridges , the high school girlfriend .

Speaker 2

Yeah .

Speaker 1

And we , and we've established this nice , nice , you know , friendly relationship rapport and everything like that and so we're . I'm planning on getting together with her and her husband for dinner while I'm out there , but then after that , after those particular people like I I don't know how interested I am in the high school world . They're the people I'm connected to on Facebook , but I'm just like okay .

Speaker 2

I am . My best friend on the planet is my best friend that I had in high school . It's not changed Outside of him . I would totally just Krispy Kreme glazed donut eyes from anyone that would come up to me and talk to me . I'd go through the motions , but the introvertness of myself would just be like I'd be screaming on the inside . I don't care .

Speaker 1

And I know that makes me a bad person to say it , but after about the fourth person .

Speaker 2

My Irish goodbye would set in . Everyone would look at me and be like hey man where'd David go ? I'd be damn and damn in a bar like four streets over Exactly .

Speaker 1

Well , that's kind of what happened to us at our 25th high school reunion .

Speaker 2

It was and we had the misfortune I didn't even get invited to mine , I guess . Yeah , they figured I was just already dead or in prison . I was actually kind of one of the planners for mine doing it from a distance .

Speaker 1

I had people calling me like well , jeff , what did you want to do this ? And I was like , okay , I guess I'm . And then at the 11th hour , this one girl who was kind of a mean girl in our class , kind of took over at the end .

Speaker 2

Yeah , okay , fine , did you have a big class ?

Speaker 1

We had a class of about 500 .

Speaker 2

Okay , and so were you like student council . Is that why everybody's like calling you and shit ? Or are you just that guy ? I don't know .

Speaker 1

I guess I have impressed some people that I'm a success enough that you know financially and lifestyle and everything like that .

Speaker 2

They thought you were going to flex and just pop the bill . There have been .

Speaker 1

I will tell you this there have been some years where I've thought you know what I'd pay for the whole thing myself and just send out an invitation saying here's the date . It's a flex .

Speaker 2

It's on me . Yeah , you know yeah .

Speaker 1

And I don't know if . I do that now . Maybe I'll wait till the 50th , you know when there's less people involved .

Speaker 2

Everyone's kind of died People have died .

Speaker 1

at this point you know every other person's got a decatheter , so their meds won't allow them to drink alcohol , so we'll just do a cash bar . You know , um , no it , but it was um . I think they tried to do something for 30th . 25th was good , that was a good , fun time . But like there was this one guy sitting at our dinner table and I had known him . Like I mean , I , I am cursed with the fact that I know everybody's name from class , like I , could I . You just take me through the yearbook , I can tell you something about every single person oh wow , yeah like and and I'll see them and I'll know their name and and and yeah , so I am cursed with that .

Speaker 1

I am not that good . Um , the , the , the ex-girlfriend out and out in long beach , california . Um , she has told me that , like she remembers nothing from high school . And I'm like , I'm like you have no idea how lucky you are . Like I would kill to be you to forget most of high school , you know , uh , I'm like , do you because I'd be like you know that , because virginia and I'd gotten together for dinner with her and her husband , uh last year . And I'm like , do you because I'd be like you know that , because virginia and I'd gotten together for dinner with her and her husband , uh last year . And I'm like , do you remember these people ?

Speaker 1

she's like she's kind of shaking her head like smiling go , no , I don't remember who they .

Speaker 2

A lot of people told me I had a really good time in high school okay there you go bless you .

Speaker 1

You know , I wish I could forget most of high school . Yeah , it it's just rough man .

Speaker 2

It's tough man , like , so like even seeing my son being a senior and him going and I know he's gone through some things , but man , he's like he's done so well with it , right , and I'm just , it's just just looking back on it . It was so challenging and rough .

Speaker 1

Do you ? Think he'll be able to let go of high school when the time comes . Oh , do you think he'll be able to let go of high school ?

Speaker 2

when the time comes . Oh , he's so ready to get out of there . He's done . He got accepted into honors at Embry-Riddle .

Speaker 1

Outstanding yeah .

Speaker 2

Like whoa .

Speaker 1

Well done . Yeah , congratulations .

Speaker 2

Yeah , we're going down there and checking it out at the end of March .

Speaker 1

Right .

Speaker 2

But yeah , no , he's not a no , he wants to get out of it . And when I went there to what's the acronym or whatever for when you start to hear about scholarships and filling it out with Tennessee . Anyway , we had a whole senior class , the HOPE Maybe .

Speaker 1

Yeah , the HOPE Scholarship or something , yeah , something like that yeah .

Speaker 2

Or whatever it is that you have to fill out for the- .

Speaker 1

FAFSA . That's it . There you go .

Speaker 2

Yeah , Jacqueline's doing that right now , yeah so big big meeting . The seniors and their parents are in damn maryville high school's cafeteria and looking around I was just like , oh yeah , this cat's ready to get the hell out of here yeah , you know , uh , again , I'm saying awful things right now , but I could just none of the people that were around him , except for a selected few or his cup of tea .

Kevin Smith Movies and Comedy Nostalgia

Speaker 2

Uh , you know , I could yeah , no , I get that you know I get by the time , by the time spring of my senior year had rolled around . I was done , I was ready to move on , you know , I mean , he's never even got his letterman jacket yeah , you know he doesn't care yeah hmm , yeah , I , I hated high school .

Speaker 1

I really did looking back on it's just like my loved and hated it .

Speaker 2

It's just , oh yeah , I yeah . Hmm , yeah , I hated high school . I really did . Looking back on it , it's just like man , I loved and hated it . It's just I was . Oh yeah , I had a blast , you know .

Speaker 1

You know , my daughter's down at my mom's house , Jacqueline's down at my mom's house this weekend because a friend of hers from from Webb is getting married , yeah , this weekend , and , uh , getting married this weekend . And so Jacqueline and two of her friends are staying at mom's house and now , I do love a good wedding . I do love a good wedding .

Speaker 1

Weddings are fun . It's been a while since I've been to a wedding . Yeah , but I mean , those are fun . I'm going to have to start stocking aside money for cause I don't want to see it coming .

Speaker 1

So uh , no , my no . My Jacqueline used to tell me that she would want , she wanted to have a really big wedding . That has since changed Really yeah , that she's wanted to scale it Like even to the point where members of my ex-wife's family , like Jacqueline's , like , yeah , no , I wouldn't invite them and I'm like , okay , have fun selling that to your mother .

Speaker 2

Right and she's thinking like , just like eloping or taking the money , I don't know .

Speaker 1

Putting it eloping or taking the money , I don't know , putting it towards the house , that type of shit , and I don't know how all that works too because I I'm confronted with you know they say the bride's bride family , the bride's father . Well , no , it's the bride's family that pays for the wedding and you'd be damn sure that . Well , if my ex-wife wants to have any say in anything , then then she'll pony up some cash otherwise , shut the fuck up .

Speaker 1

I'm driving this ship , you know um , but I think jacklyn's backed it off a little bit in terms of what her expectations like you start getting a feeling it was a hundred thousand dollar wedding that I'm paying for .

Speaker 2

It's absurd .

Speaker 1

Yeah , that's all racket when virginia and I went through it a few years ago , five years ago , and trying to start the planning process and everything .

Speaker 2

It's so stupid .

Speaker 1

It's just . It is a total fucking racket .

Speaker 2

Like the places .

Speaker 1

We tried to book , like we tried to do Knoxville Botanical Gardens .

Speaker 2

Yeah .

Speaker 1

And like had we not said the word wedding it would have been a different cost .

Speaker 2

Right .

Speaker 1

You know , but because we said the word wedding , it was like gonna be three thousand dollars more or something like that yeah , and it's just like this is such bullshit it is .

Speaker 2

Yeah , I uh of one of my bosses . His daughter just recently got married down in florida and just started talking about some of the shit that they were doing and all this other stuff .

Speaker 1

And you know , my damn mental calculator's going off and I'm like you're fucking crazy right I mean again , I do love a good wedding , but , man , I don't want to pay for a good wedding no , I'm sure that when it comes time for either of my daughters to have a wedding , I'll be doing mental calculations the whole night as I watch people getting drinks .

Speaker 2

Yeah , exactly , yeah , yeah , I was like put that second chicken down buddy , fuck you . You fat ass Fly , fat ass fly , fly , fat ass fly .

Speaker 1

I'd do it myself , but I threw my back at Hump of your Mom last night . Nooch , you always got to fall into Kevin Smith . Shit man , what an all-time movie . That's a fucking great movie .

Speaker 2

No , I lived it , man , because I worked in the mall for so long I was a mall rat really yeah , and , and you know , no social media , no cell phones that's all you had . You go to the fucking court exactly , and that's where you meet up . Everybody right , we're all there .

Speaker 1

And then that's where we decide how the rest of that movie and clerks out . When I was on deployment in 98 it was just I . I know those movies chapter and verse and I stand by this . I think ben affleck always has had the most fun acting when he's doing a kevin smith movie absolutely .

Speaker 2

Chasing amy is like one of his better roles .

Speaker 1

It's his best , it to me one of his best dramatic roles . And for as much as it was maligned , jersey girl , he was good in that too . Never saw that . Oh that's , it's surprisingly good , you know chasing amy .

Speaker 2

Though man , you could sit there and see like , okay , this guy could snap on you at any given fucking moment yeah that was when I truly like he truly showed it . Like other times in like mall rats , you can tell he's an asshole , but Chasing Amy was the one time you can be endearing and , yep , you're crazy . Call me , joey .

Speaker 1

Call me Danny . Yeah , girl , please don't go yeah .

Speaker 2

His name is escaping me .

Speaker 1

Shannon Hamilton .

Speaker 2

Just call me Earl . What was his name ?

Speaker 1

Oh , jason Lee , yes , yes , when he is in the elevator in Mallrats . Oh yeah , we've all been there as a dude .

Speaker 2

We've all been there as a dude , thinking we've really done something , I think .

Speaker 1

Jason Lee is the cornerstone of the early Kevin Smith movies .

Speaker 2

Yes , If you didn't have him , you wouldn't have him .

Speaker 1

He is the Vince Vaughn of Kevin . Smith Agreed .

Speaker 2

Without him , you don't have Kevin Smith movies no he's just brilliant Because he had the looks , because the guy , the blonde guy in Clerks Jason Mewes . Yes , I guess the one that was always talking like men .

Speaker 1

Oh , jeff Anderson . Yeah , yes , played Randall . Yes , he was always like that guy , yeah .

Speaker 2

But he didn't have the looks .

Speaker 1

Right and Jason Lee had the looks to match that .

Speaker 2

And then it was like there he goes .

Speaker 1

Jeff Anderson did a movie he actually wrote and directed . It called Now you Know , and um , I actually have that on dvd because I'm like view us universe you know , I mean you know um , but it stars oh god , it's the guy who played . He was in clueless . He was also in um , oh fuck , he was in uh waitress , I forget his name now anyway , um , but , but , but he started it . It was a decent little movie and whatnot .

Speaker 2

I lost it when I saw him back in Zack and Marie make a porno .

Speaker 1

Oh , I know right when he popped up in that movie .

Speaker 2

I'm like no way . This is amazing . That's a great movie . That movie yes .

Speaker 1

And Kevin Smith will tell you like I've watched all the . I watch all the documentaries with Kevin Smith . Will tell you like I've watched all the . I watch all the documentaries with Kevin Smith . Movies too , the Q&As , everything . The director's commentary version of it . I watched them all and he will talk about how he it was kind of the movie where he lost a little bit of control .

Speaker 2

Really .

Speaker 1

Once he got Seth Rogen . I can see that Really Once he got Seth Rogen .

Speaker 2

I can see that .

Speaker 1

As on the team , because then it kind of became a team Apatow film Because he brought in then Elizabeth Banks .

Speaker 2

Well , I agree with you . If you didn't know that it was a Smith movie , you really wouldn't know it was a Smith movie , Right , but it's a great movie . Oh my gosh man .

Speaker 1

And the closing song is Clim bands . I love you and it's just when they start playing those opening electric piano chords and I'm just like it's great , it's my favorite love song ever , you know . And I'm just like , oh my god it's awesome , I mean it just moves .

Speaker 2

so there's poo in there .

Speaker 1

Lots of water in that toilet tank .

Speaker 2

Yeah , when he was filming it too .

Speaker 1

Oh yeah . It just frosted me it just got frosted man so he talks about in the documentary like that was one thing that he really had to figure out how to film it For the ratings Because they were going to give him the next rating on that . I don't doubt it , and he's like we beat the rating system on that one , awesome . And then they had the .

Speaker 2

Well , they had to change the name of it , right ? It had to go from Zack and Marie Make a Porno to Zack and Mary , right , yeah , that's what it was called . They couldn't even say Make a Movie anymore .

Speaker 1

I think I have the DVD that's called Zack and Mary Make a Porno .

Speaker 2

Yeah , it was awesome .

Speaker 1

It was one of the best I remember seeing it , I actually was on a date . It was like during my dating phase , one of like during my dating phase in the late one of the great dates of late 08 and uh , we went to see that and we just both howled with laughter .

Speaker 2

Yeah , you have to . Anyone that watches that movie doesn't laugh . He's fucking dead . Like you need to like really worry about that person but no , for me .

Speaker 1

It was for me . With kevin smith movies it was always the big five clerks , mall rats chasing amy dogma , amy Dogma and Jay and Silent Bob strike back .

Speaker 2

I haven't thought about strikes back in a long time Fucking .

Speaker 1

Brilliant movie , Awesome man .

Speaker 2

I sat there and watched that movie in the movie theater .

Speaker 1

You see this face . When you see this face , you think clit . Nobody else knows how to work that shit . None of you motherfuckers . I see that and I go . I am the clit commander .

Speaker 2

The center for the liberation of itinerant tree dwellers I watched that movie like I was five years old , seeing santa for the first yeah , you know what I mean , it was just magical , yeah because he , I mean , he didn't pull any stops , he was just like , it was a total like thank you , fans .

Speaker 1

Movie it was it was . It was like he took the previous four movies yes put them all together in a greatest hits at the same , saluting them and saluting the fans at the same time yeah , it was , it was brilliant fucking brilliant , and then more . Stay in the time at the end of that movie .

Speaker 2

Man , awesome man , it's good stuff and dogma with dogma was actually ahead of its time oh , it was , I was . I don't think . I think there's a lot of people there that have seen it and still don't understand it , carlin is just brilliant in that yeah .

Speaker 1

Look at him , he's the buddy Christ , don't you just kind of want to go to church now . And then Carlin's also in Jersey Girl . He plays Ben Affleck's dad . Oh okay , he's fucking great , he's like why don't you take the kid to see the cats , because his daughter wants to see cats on broadway right . Why don't you take the kid to see the cats ? She would have a good time going to the cats . Fucking miss carlin oh do I miss carlin ?

Speaker 2

yeah , oh yeah we've said it before in past few episodes if carlin was here , oh , he'd lose his fucking mind .

Speaker 1

We actually need Carlin right now . We need Carlin right now .

Speaker 2

Can you imagine him being on the Daily ?

Speaker 1

Show oh sure yeah .

Speaker 2

Just bring Carlin in every Wednesday night .

Speaker 1

I mean , he would be kind of like you put him the Daily Show , bill Maher's Real Time .

Speaker 2

Well , I was about to say have carlin having his own podcast exactly , I'm in .

Speaker 1

Yeah , no , I'm in 100 . Whatever you gotta say , pal , I just yeah because , like when he started getting political , he got angry and it just like it took his comedy up to a whole new level yeah , it was more than just like when you're playing football you're playing on a you're playing on the gridiron , yeah when you're playing baseball , you're playing in the park . Football you wear a helmet .

Speaker 2

Baseball you wear a cap but stop him when he's lying . Exactly you know what I mean ? Fucking brilliant . Yeah , he was way ahead .

Speaker 1

Oh my god carlin on campus calling carnegie hall like I just wore those fuckers out . Yeah he was .

Speaker 2

He was super awesome man . Again , I've even said it on

Podcast Updates and Closing Thoughts

Speaker 2

the podcast before his whole speech about the word fuck yeah absolutely amazing , right , right , we need to wrap this up .

Speaker 1

Man , I guess we do we've been talking , see how long we've been going . Oh , this is my car ride . I was gonna say it's gonna .

Speaker 1

Hey , we could talk longer and then we can milk two more episodes out of this , like we did so , hey , friends , some administrative business and whatnot , because like we could go in a million different directions with this podcast and whatnot , because we've kind of deviated from our original intent and that was we were just going to kind of shine a light on the knoxville area in east tennessee and places to go and things to do .

Speaker 2

No one wanted to listen that shit , nobody wanted to listen to that shit .

Speaker 1

They the only thing that knoxville , we covered it in an hour , right exactly the only thing they wanted to listen to that shit , and it's Knoxville . We covered it in an hour , right , exactly . The only thing they wanted to listen to us less was you and me dissecting Marvel movies .

Speaker 2

Yes , big time .

Speaker 1

But speaking of that , I will say this Captain America , Brave New World for me is probably the best Marvel movie since Endgame All right , very much kind of in the similar style as winter soldier and whatnot , but I like that it wraps up loose ends that go back as far as the incredible hulk movie . All right , I mean you know ?

Speaker 2

uh , that was what I needed . I've been hesitant to get my money .

Speaker 1

No , no , no , it was , it was . I mean I virginia went I mean I'm a virgin , you know . So we got her going and that was there you go . That's how it worked . That's um anyway . So if you go over to Apple podcasts or any other platform to which you listen to podcasts , from which you listen to podcasts , you know , give us a five-star review because that helps the algorithm and makes our podcast a little more noticeable on whatever platform you're using , whether it's Spotify or whether it's Apple Podcasts , or we upload this through Buzzsprout and we appreciate working with them .

Speaker 1

They have fantastic things that make this podcast sound as produced and professional as it is . But anyway , if you would go there and if you would like to hear stuff from us , we do have a Facebook and an instagram site , which I'm sure they could message those and say hey , I'd like to hear you talk about this absolutely we would be opening to be to take suggestions as to what you would like to hear about .

Speaker 1

Um , you know and in a complete aside I didn't even mention this , but I will mention this today um , so , you know , my daughter juliana , out in los angeles , was working for a real podcast . Yeah , this was called the lunch table pod with zach justice and skyler I don't like how you're using past tense .

Speaker 2

Uh , she's not working there anymore .

Speaker 1

Okay , yeah , she uh ended on good terms , but it was just . She just felt that her role was being a little underutilized . Okay , what is nice ? That if you do watch some of those episodes occasionally , zach will give a shout out to me .

Speaker 2

Oh cool .

Speaker 1

Apparently , I've got a cult . I don't not much of one , but like in the comments section on the YouTube page you'll like see . Okay , jules , dad , you need to like , you need to . You need to post here every time , every episode because , like , it's really worth you know so . So like people be bitching about my daughter saying she has vocal fry and everything , I'm like hey guys , that is no vocal fry . She has sounded like a three pack a day , 30 year smoker , since she was 18 months old so uh , but uh , no , so anyway , but that's , that's a real podcast for .

Speaker 1

For a podcast like ours , which is , you know , we do this more for fun than anything like that and we don't do any sponsorships or anything , but we're open to that , oh , I'm very open . We're open to that , like we haven't put this thing on Patreon yet , but that would mean we'd have to do like extended episodes and everything like that and fuck that .

Speaker 2

Well , our schedules are a little Fuck that hard Are a little crazy .

Speaker 1

It's a little crazy right now .

Speaker 2

So the last thing we need is another schedule . Schedule yeah , fuck that . Yeah , no , we're not doing that .

Speaker 1

So anyway , but no , if you'd go over to any'd , we'd really love to hear from you and we appreciate the support , we appreciate all of our listeners , you know , and we we finish this by saying each time and well , first of all , I love you , love you man , and , uh , I enjoy this . Oh , my gosh of course we're gonna have to find a reason to get together besides this because this is kind of the only reason we get together .

Speaker 2

We are , we got it coming up . Okay , yeah , 23rd , all right , we're there cool in the game .

Speaker 1

Yeah , man , all right , um and then um , um , you know so , but most of all , just kind of go out and be decent to each other .

Speaker 2

The world's a crazy place right now , just be decent to each other and man help each other man and you know you try to find a way to be two drinks in always . Yes , cheers , guys , cheers . I don't care what you say anymore . This is my life . Go ahead with your own life , leave me alone . Keep it to yourself . It's my life , thank you .
