Basketball heartbreak, career celebrations, and the high cost of live entertainment take center stage in our wide-ranging conversation about life's wins and losses.

When Tennessee fell to Houston in the Elite Eight, it wasn't just another tournament exit—it represented the continuation of a painful pattern for Vol fans watching former coach Bruce Pearl take Auburn to yet another Final Four. We break down what made this year's tournament unique, with all four number one seeds advancing to the Final Four for the first time since 2009, and why Duke has emerged as the team to beat.

The conversation shifts to how NIL deals are transforming college basketball, with freshmen like Cooper Flagg already appearing in national commercials while still playing for Duke. This economic shift might actually keep star players in college longer, reversing the one-and-done culture that has dominated the sport. Meanwhile, the controversial timing of the transfer portal opening during tournament play raises serious questions about loyalty and focus.

On the personal front, David shares exciting news about his promotion to Senior Director of Food and Nutrition at University of Tennessee Medical Center after 15 years at his previous position. The episode also explores the joys and heartaches of watching children complete their sports careers, and the valuable life lessons that team activities instill.

We lament the skyrocketing costs of concert tickets, with shows by major artists now costing hundreds or even thousands of dollars for decent seats. From AC/DC to Louis CK, we discuss upcoming events worth the splurge and why some performances have become "one and done" bucket list experiences rather than regular entertainment.

What's your line for when things have gone too sideways? Join us for this thought-provoking episode about basketball, careers, entertainment, and finding joy in a world of constant change.

NCAA Basketball Tournament Overview

Speaker 1

Episode 37.

Speaker 2

37. My girlfriend sucked 37 dicks.

Speaker 1

In a row Tutoring Senegan was not taped before a live studio audience.

Speaker 2

Did you know that you cannot win a basketball game in the first half, but you sure as shit can lose one?

Speaker 1

Oh yeah, I'm very sorry about that.

Speaker 2

I don't need you to worry for me Cause I'm alright. I don't want you to tell me it's time to come home. I don't care what you say anymore. This is my life. Go ahead with your own life, leave me alone.

Speaker 1

Hey folks, it's Jeff, it's me, it's me, david T. Well, that cold open kind of we're just going to get right into it. Ncaa basketball tournament and I am sitting here wearing a newly procured Duke polo shirt that's a good looking blue.

Speaker 2

That's a good looking blue.

Speaker 1

It's a good looking blue and so you know Duke's in the final four and sadly, tennessee is not.

Speaker 2

No.

Speaker 1

And let's just kind of talk about the tournament.

Speaker 2

So far, you know the tournament so far, oddly enough there hasn't been that many upsets. I mean like there have been minimal upsets.

Speaker 1

All four number ones. In the final four no bracket buster.

Speaker 2

Yeah, I think what was the last 2009,. I think was the last time all four went.

Speaker 1

I don't know, I haven't tracked that. But it's.

Speaker 2

I mean, it doesn't happen very often, and God, I mean Tennessee. Just I, immediately, within like the first four minutes of the game, felt like that chick from the matrix, like turning around, like no, not like this, you know. It just got the bullet to the back of the head. It was awful, I mean even mayshak.

Speaker 1

Missing is those first three free throws, in which this I mean just I couldn't score like Joe Pesci in Goodfellas when he thinks he's about to get made and he goes in the room and he's like, oh shit, yeah, yeah.

Speaker 2

And I felt like that and we were still in Daytona watching it. And I'm actually glad, you know, because if it was my own stuff I think I would have broken a lot more things, but since I was in a rental, you know I didn't break anything, but my god, it was just brutal and I hate it for barnes yeah, I do too.

Speaker 1

I mean, it's just one of those guys. I actually watched the game and it. You know I was kind of indifferent to the outcome, sure, and you know it's kind of like, well, you know, if tennessee goes to the final four, that welcome to the club you know, and everything like that. Right, yeah, finally, but it no, it was like I had posted on Facebook. Well, ball Nation, you can't say the refs had this stacked against you.

Speaker 1

Oh, absolutely not, and so, and I posted that because there's one guy who, well as of that post, I am not friends with him anymore.

Speaker 2

But I'll get into that in a second.

Speaker 1

But he always posts for both football and basketball. The fix is in. The refs have fixed this game. And I'm like not this, Because what I saw in the second half was like, okay, Houston had like nine team fouls on them where Tennessee had two. And then I saw the stat the free throws Tennessee was six of eight and, and you know, houston was one of one.

Speaker 2

I'm like I'm sorry you can't say the refs had this against you when you just didn't show up. Yeah, when you, the moment was too big. Right, when you shoot 20 or lower, I think you're not gonna win, especially against a team like houston I mean they're fucking good. And the second half they. You could tell that Tennessee could hang with them. But I mean, if they would have done the second half like the first half, maybe they still would have lost, but at least it would have been competitive. But my.

Speaker 2

God, I had never seen such an awful display of offense like I did in that first half.

Speaker 1

It was a lot like the Duke-Alabama game, no, really. And so I have a theory about all this is where I think teams like Alabama, tennessee poured so much into the sweet 16 game yeah that when they got to the elite eight, like they forgot in that previous game, they still had another game to play right and I think, like in Alabama's case, I mean what the fuck? 25 out of 51 three-pointers drained, set a record BYU and yeah you know, but like that wasn't the same team that showed up against Duke, absolutely not but I will also say Duke's damn good, they're damn good.

Speaker 1

But I think Shire and the team watched all the video of the BYU game and said, okay, so we get the first message we have to shut down the three-point. And they did and they did they, they just, and then it be. You know, I mean, and it's you know, I mean I don't want to say they've tromped all over everyone on their way to the final four because that arizona game was like they should.

Speaker 2

They should away a 19 point lead, yeah, but you know they still have been. They've been dominant, yeah, they've been firmly beating the absolute.

Speaker 1

So a lot of people think that it's going to be duke floridaida in the final game.

Speaker 2

That's what I said at the very beginning. Okay, I did my two little family bracket things.

Speaker 1

Right and.

Speaker 2

I've got one bracket with Florida winning. My other one had Duke winning.

Speaker 1

Yeah.

Speaker 2

The only one that I missed in the final four is both of mine. I had Michigan State beating Auburn just because of Izzo's history.

Speaker 1

Sure, he's just so fucking hard to beat. Yeah, history, sure he's just so fucking hard to beat.

Speaker 2

Yeah, um, he's a great coach unbelievable, I mean hall of famer big time.

Speaker 1

I mean if he's not already in? Yeah, I don't even know, but he should.

Speaker 2

Well, he won the title in 2000 yeah, so yeah, um, but yeah, it's just, I'm, I'm, I'm super excited about this final four it's gonna be good.

Speaker 1

Those are.

Speaker 2

These are gonna be knock down, drag out fights, because I've never seen uh, and I'm sure it's happened, but I've never seen a Tennessee team under Barnes especially later in his career there get manhandled on the boards like he did, like Houston did. I mean I don't know how many offensive rebounds they got in that damn game, but I mean that usually does not happen against a Barnes team. They made them look small.

Speaker 1

And here's the interesting stat too. That usually does not happen against the Barnes team. They made them look small, and here's the interesting stat too is that three out of those four regional finals were one and two matchups. Yeah, I think Michigan State was the only one that kind of ruined the party because I think they were a three. No, they were two. Okay, there was one game that was a one and a three.

Speaker 2

Yeah, it was. Whoever Florida played Texas Tech Right, which Florida got fucking lucky? Yeah, I don't know if you watched that game. I did not, they were up. Texas Tech was up 10 with like a minute and something and blew it. I mean they had them beat the whole game.

Speaker 1

I did see that in the replay.

Speaker 2

Yeah, but yeah, they were the only three seed. That was the lowest seed in the whole thing so far, but well, yeah, they were the lowest seed.

Speaker 1

Well, I don't think. I think the Vol Nation should still be very proud, absolutely, of Rick Barnes.

Speaker 2

Yeah but again, you're still I mean.

Speaker 1

Always the bridesmaid, never the bride. Yeah, man, it's just there. There's just something about crossing over into the final four, right, and there's just something about crossing over into the final four, and the shitty thing is right is now.

Speaker 2

you've seen my beautiful girlfriend, or ex-girlfriend, now make it to the final four twice with Pearl Right. He's taken on a team that had never been twice now and we're still outside looking in, which stings even more. I'm sure it does, yeah.

Speaker 1

I will say I love Bruce Pearl.

Speaker 2

Oh my gosh, I loved it when he was a coach here.

Speaker 1

I you know I will say I love bruce pearl. I loved it when he was a coach here. You know he was. I remember I was running. I went and ran like there was a 5k. It was a susan coman 5k back when susan coman was a thing here. Susan g coman breast cancer oh, yeah, yeah, okay, yeah so, um, and he had just arrived and they had him kind of just do an announcement right before the race kicked off and like.

Speaker 1

I immediately thought this guy has got some fucking charisma. Yeah, he's just a charismatic guy, yeah.

Speaker 2

I've had people that actually worked different events with him and he is that way nonstop and he's that type of guy that knows every name and won't ever forget it. And then he'll go back around and still you know he's just able to work the room like a pro and yeah, I forget it. And then it'll go back around and still you know you're just able to work the room like a pro and yeah, I mean, it's god, it's pearl man. I told my son I'm hoping, but if I'm thinking barns is going to retire soon, because just seeing his relationship with ziggler it's going to be hard for him to reset again. And you know, are you at that age where you're like, oh, you know what, I don't know if I got it in me?

Speaker 1

I don't know.

Speaker 2

I think that's what happened to a lot of these old guys I would bring pearl back man yeah I mean I'd I would do it, I'd give him a, the blank check, say come on home, buddy, he won't do it do.

Speaker 1

Do you know if his ex-wife still lives here? I don't know but I know I've talked about it before when she had that hair salon called Alamones oh, Jesus, I would see her back when it was called the Rush over in Farragut. I'd see her there working out and I met her once we were at a Actually it was, oh shit, One of the basketball players married the daughter of a dentist down in Blount County yeah. And so I got invited to that.

Speaker 1

And she was there with her kids, you know yeah and so I'm like trying to get to know her because, well, some of those kids were still orthodontic age yeah, you know.

Speaker 2

So hey, come on down here.

Speaker 1

It could be a flex for me and didn't like their, their, uh, their oldest son played for pearl right on the yeah, on the team.

Speaker 2

Yeah, he's helping him coach down there at auburn right yeah, yeah. So yeah, steven steven right, yeah, yeah, so he um, it was, it was an interesting uh yeah, it still blows my mind that there was an actual time of a single bruce pearl with lane kiffin running the running around at ut unsupervised. Have you ever?

Speaker 1

seen any of the photos that came out about. You know, like there's the, there's the famous one of him on a boat with a blonde and oh yeah. And his you see his hand kind of cup. I know the blonde. Actually that's Tim Burch, it's ex wife.

Speaker 2

Oh, wow, in that photo Whoa yeah.

Speaker 1

Okay Then the one who's married to the Bandit Lights guy Strickland.

Speaker 2

Wow yeah.

Tennessee's Heartbreaking Loss to Houston

Speaker 1

Boy and I only know of them because of Webb, and both of their kids were in my daughter's classes. I mean so all the drama. He had an FBI raid on his business too and she was under because she had like hacked into his ex-wife's account and she's dying of breast cancer. She's passed away and she was a lovely woman. I got to know her a bit at web and cool. Yeah, it just fucking a lot of drama at web we're gonna revisit web school of knoxville someday, friends we're gonna burn it down.

Speaker 2

We're gonna burn the fucking thing down because they're burning down everything else in this country.

Speaker 1

The only thing we have is the NCAA tournament. That's all. We got Four number ones Duke, houston, auburn and Florida.

Speaker 2

Do you think Duke will beat Houston? Yes, I do. Yeah, you think they're cutting the nets now? I do.

Speaker 1

Yeah, I do too, I stand by.

Speaker 2

I don't want to be a KOD again, but I do too.

Speaker 1

They are, it's theirs to lose and I've told people it just depends on which team shows up. If they show up and they're primed and they're rested and they're ready to go, I think I don't know against Florida how they'll do. I kind of think, since we've already beaten Auburn once in the season, we kind of have their number a little bit Right, unless Auburn's just got. Okay, we need to fuck these guys up because they're one of our few losses that we had this year.

Speaker 1

But no I see it as a Duke-Florida title game and me not getting a lot of sleep on Monday night.

Speaker 2

It's must-see TV night. That's must see tv.

Speaker 1

It's must see tv it's been a really long time since I've gone the distance and because usually after duke gets beaten I'm like, okay, well, I'm out.

Speaker 2

Yeah, oh yeah, if it's a team, I give a shit about I. You know, I totally understand, you know I'll I'll go to the end, but like you know there's a difference. It's just like looking and seeing that score or waking up and checking it out and being like oh okay, that's what happened, yeah, Then to be in the nitty gritty of it, exactly, exactly.

Speaker 1

So no, it's been a good season. Yeah, I think, I think.

Speaker 2

When was Duke's last Final Four?

Speaker 1

I know it was with Kay, but game was Carolina that was your loss. And then the final game of your career is you lose to Carolina.

Speaker 2

And I'm like you know what.

Speaker 1

That's the way it should be, you know.

Speaker 2

Yeah, damn it, damn it. So yeah, y'all go every two to three years.

Speaker 1

Dad would have gone out of his mind if he had seen that Duke go to the Final Four, he would have lost his shit. He would have loved that. So it broke my heart that he was not around anymore to see it and Tennessee got my hopes up there for a little bit.

Speaker 2

I mean they cut it like seven, I think. And then Houston just came down and hit two more threes right after that. It's just like, well, there it went.

Speaker 1

It's amazing how that happens. They were too good of a team to get behind. You have team to get behind you. You had to, you have to go. You see why these teams were ranked number one absolutely in their brackets. Like it's. It is, without question. This is the way it should be and and I kind of feel like none of these number one seeds, we're going to try, we're going to try to have an off night. Right now they're like no, we're getting to the final four and then we'll see how this plays out.

Speaker 2

You know it's. It's pretty impressive. Again, it's been rare to not have any type of bracket buster major upset. Normally there's one, and granted, there's always been that argument now too, of just well, these mid-majors and these lower-tier teams aren't ever going to do that again due to the NIL, which I don't really believe. Just because it is basketball, Sometimes the ball just doesn't go through the hoop. I mean, obviously, but I just don't believe that.

Speaker 1

So a phenomenon that I've noticed during the tournament is how do you feel about these college players showing up in commercials?

Speaker 2

Well, the bingo commercial with your boy Cooper is hilarious, yes that's fucking hilarious.

Speaker 1

Yeah, he's, that's fucking hilarious.

Speaker 2

Yeah, he's really good in that.

Speaker 1

Oh, yeah, he will have a good advertisement career. Yeah.

Speaker 2

A buddy of mine that I normally talk hoops with. Just this morning we were like man Duke wins this thing, they're going to be gutted. And I said you know what With Cooper Flagg? I think it's better for him to stay one or two more years. He's in a New Balance commercial. He's in the State Farm commercial. I guarantee he ain't doing that shit for free If he wins the title he's the face of the NCAA who do you?

Speaker 1

think is going to win. National Player of the Year.

Speaker 2

I would say he is now.

Speaker 1

They're saying that, billis, even though he's a fellow alumnus. He's got to say somebody besides Duke? Yeah, so he's still going on.

Speaker 2

the broom is going to win it. He's great, he's a good ball player, and they'll probably give him his flowers because he's a senior, sure. But you know what, though? To be a devil's advocate here.

Speaker 1

No pun intended Right.

Speaker 2

The Blue Devils won the ACC tournament without Cooper Flagg, and that says a lot. It does.

Speaker 1

Did we talk about that? We didn't talk about it. It's been a while since we've recorded, so we didn't even talk about the ACC tournament.

Speaker 2

I think it was going to happen that week.

Speaker 1

That was the message that I took away from the ACC tournament. Okay, everyone needs to sit up and take notice. This team did two games without their star.

Speaker 2

Yeah, I think I even texted you. I was like is Duke better without Flack? They?

Speaker 1

may be because he doesn't slip on the floor. He doesn't have all that sweat going on, you know.

Speaker 2

Well, sometimes, when you have that star too, a lot of players will stop yeah just to see the star not con connipple, because I don't.

Speaker 1

I think I remember hearing that he was not even a mcdonald's all-american no and like his whole season has been a fuck you to the mcdonald's all-american selection committee. Like no, you should have had me on this. And like they're talking, he's going to go top 10 in the draft.

Speaker 2

I would stay. Is he a senior?

Speaker 1

No, he's a freshman.

Speaker 2

Yeah, stay.

Speaker 1

So you have all the freshmen that will probably go pro. You have Cooper Flagg. I don't know his first name, mollowatch, you know who's like seven foot two and a wingspan of 12 feet.

Speaker 2

Right, you know I mean, yeah, one step.

Speaker 1

He's on the other end of the court, exactly, and again, one of the reasons. I've always believed Duke makes its deep run in the tournament when they have a true center. Oh yeah, you know when we won in 2010,.

Speaker 2

It was because Brian Zubek, who can't shoot free throws or anything like that, but he's a presence.

Speaker 1

But he's a presence and he can rebound like a motherfucker.

Speaker 2

Just give me the ball back.

Speaker 1

Exactly, but Mollowatch, knipple and Flagg, I mean those are your definites. I think that are going to go out. But I mean fucking Proctor's talking about coming back next year for his senior year.

Speaker 2

Again, I'm assuming these guys are making millions. Yes, next year for a senior year again.

Speaker 1

You're, you'd be, I'm assuming these guys are making millions.

Speaker 2

Yes, you're. Why would you not 18, 19, 20 years old? Yeah, why go and disappear in the nba? Granted, you're gonna be making more money, but if you're 18 or 19 and you can't figure it out with eight million dollars a year, yeah, but being the cock of the walk over there, get your star power now. Yeah, yeah, like fuck, go enjoy college, right, I mean, why not?

Speaker 1

you know, yeah, all the rest of your life to be an adult, yeah I mean enjoy it.

Speaker 2

I can't remember which coach was saying that not too long ago but I was like man you are correct well, I'm gonna bet it.

Speaker 1

I, I don't know. I keep going back to tony bennett of uva, yeah, when he departed and just said, yeah, I can't do this shit anymore, and you know, and the guy from miami who did it like mid-game just to walk off.

Speaker 2

I might just say, fuck this shit, I'm out, you know, and but no, I, I think, I think you know, I always worry like what is going to be the problem with this nil?

Speaker 1

and the one and done culture. And, and I do believe that coach k saw the writing on the wall and he said, yeah, I can't fucking do this well. And the one and done culture. And I do believe that, coach.

Speaker 2

K saw the writing on the wall and just said, yeah, I can't fucking do this. Well, and the really crazy thing too, outside of the NIL is the transfer portal opened up during the tournament. Yeah, that's batshit crazy.

Speaker 1

We talked about this for football too. Like when the conference season ends, everyone goes in the portal Like guys. You still have bowl games to play yeah, that's bullshit.

Speaker 2

It is bullshit. Yeah, I just why even throw that temptation out to people?

Speaker 1

yeah, and I mean it could ruin and I've seen a couple interviews where coaches have talked about that and, like you can see the very measured responses that they're giving like they're not being overly critical of it, but they're trying to say you know like they do bring it up if they go through the tournament then they lose 30 days.

Speaker 1

You know of potential being in the portal and and I'm kind of like well, if your player is that fucking good, there should be no like 30 days, 60 days, it shouldn't really fucking matter, you know, but they shouldn't have another team lined up while you're playing yeah, it's like bullshit. Yeah, I don't. Yeah, I don't like that's. That's like cheating on your girlfriend. Yeah, it really is. You know it. Just it's kind of how I feel about it.

Speaker 2

It's true, you're supposed I mean you're supposed to have the loyalty right, you know yeah. I don't even have to hide it.

Speaker 1

You know what I mean Okay, you have the Boozer twins coming to Duke next year, Like that's going to be, how old are? We Right, because I'm sitting here going wait. Carlos Boozer, that was the 2001 title. Holy shit, he's got kids that are Like. That's what blows my mind.

Speaker 2

When they have kids.

Speaker 1

Right, no, that was two weeks ago that we won 2001.

Speaker 2

It's 2001,.

Speaker 1

I guess you know Maryland and then Arizona, Carlos, how are you having kids at five? How the fuck do you have kids at age five? Man?

Speaker 2

Seriously.

Speaker 1

And I think now, like Grant Hill, has accepted some position at Duke where he's like a director of development.

Speaker 2

Oh, that's cool. I'm shocked he hasn't gotten more involved with duke previously oh, he's been a big.

Speaker 1

He and his wife have been huge donors to the, to the school and the program. Like he's, he bleeds, duke blue. Oh, I mean he's you know and and um he doesn't do bad announcing either. I don't know he's really good yeah I tell you I wish they would do more with shane battier, is he I?

Speaker 2

I never even realized he was announcing.

Speaker 1

He shows up in the tournaments he's done announcements for the tournaments. I'm like this guy's just so articulate. He's just as good as Jay Billis, so why not bring him on?

Speaker 2

I mean you have Jay.

Speaker 1

Williams doing that as well. I mean you have to have your leg amputated almost and that ends your career. Yeah, yeah, we've had point guards that have we had point guards that did not, that had tragedies like between him and bobby hurley?

Speaker 2

those were the heartbreaks oh, yeah, uh, new players, especially jay. There's no telling what he would have been able to do in the nba, because that some bitch could play I read his book about the whole experience.

Speaker 1

Oh really, and he talks about how he just got so full of himself and was running around behind. Yeah, exactly. Well, you heard Clinton talked about. Why did you do it? Because I could Right. Or Edwards when he was cheating with the photographer on his campaign trail.

Speaker 2

Why did you?

Speaker 1

do it Because I could, because I felt full of myself and I could. It is the trail. Why did you do it? Because I could.

Speaker 2

Because I felt full of myself and I could. It is the classic. Why did you do it? Because I could, and Jay Williams was like why could I do this?

Speaker 1

Well, because he's out partying and then he just bought a motorcycle when there's a no motorcycle clause in your contract and I'm going to see if I can go 300 miles per hour Exactly.

Speaker 2

I can go 300 miles per hour Exactly.

Speaker 1

And he's lucky that he has a broadcasting career. Oh yeah, you know.

Duke's Path to the Final Four

Speaker 2

Yeah, hell yeah, he's lucky, he's alive. Exactly right. You know, I'm looking forward to it Again. I don't like the whole Monday night thing. Oh God, no, I hate that.

Speaker 1

But where else do you put it? You know, like Sunday night you still lose. Well, yeah, you know, like Sunday night you still lose.

Speaker 2

But I mean, you still have to give them a night off, you know.

Speaker 1

Yeah.

Speaker 2

Yeah, you could do Friday, sunday, but Sunday's the same as Monday.

Speaker 1

Yeah, like it's just not traditional to watch a sporting event like that on a Friday, except in the early round games, right.

Speaker 2

So I get that more than I do. The college football championship being on Monday yeah, fuck it.

Speaker 1

So you've got good news I do to share. Yeah, I've been promoted man yay, yay, david, he's got big dick energy yeah, it's uh.

Speaker 2

You know it's just time. Um what lucky I've been lucky enough to do it. Um, but uh what is your? Official title uh, senior director, yeah, of food and nutrition yeah, at university of tennessee yep, look at you medical center I was gonna medical center, there you go yeah.

Speaker 2

So, yeah, that's a nice jump. It is a nice jump, yeah, but I you know the realization. I've been at the place that I've I'm at now for over 15 years and, yeah, it was time sure yeah I've told you before, I was like, I feel like a stale piece of bread over there and you know it's just time for the change and luckily it was a. The timing was right, sure locations right yeah the stars align for old dt fantastic.

Speaker 1

Yeah, that's awesome. I'm so happy for you. I appreciate that. Yeah, yeah, it'll be's awesome. I'm so happy for you.

Speaker 2

I appreciate that. Yeah, yeah, it'll be different.

Speaker 1

But so what else have you had going on lately?

Speaker 2

You've got sports going on with the kids, right? Well, Big D's basketball career is officially over.

Speaker 1

Nice. How do you feel about that? He had been wanting it to happen but then when it finally happened you said that before.

Speaker 2

Yeah, they made it to the state tournament and seeing him walk up the stairs at Murfreesboro I could tell he got emotional in the locker room realizing that the curtain had finally fallen, so that made Dad a little emotional too. But it's been fun as hell watching him play, you know, forever um but you know, it's bittersweet I'm sure I'm I'm happy that it's over, because I don't have to worry about certain things anymore, but yeah it was still a joy to you know senior kid go out there and do some cool shit.

Speaker 2

I know he's learned a lot from basketball, um, and being a teammate, um. Those things are priceless to me and hopefully to him.

Speaker 1

I mean, I think it's some of those things in life. I think there's nothing more important than being involved in a team sport, yeah, or a team-oriented thing like doing a school play, because that's very much a team thing, absolutely.

Speaker 2

You learn so much right Time, efficiency, respect for each other.

Speaker 1

It's not all about you, it's not all about you.

Speaker 2

It's not all about you and there is sacrifice and there's just a bunch of good stuff that you get from it. That I know, that he knows he's gotten it, but I think even in the long run, even when he's in his 30s, he'll be able to look back and be like, yeah man, that was an experience. I'm glad I had Right and you know, hopefully he'll be able to pass that on as a father someday.

Speaker 1

So that's outstanding yeah.

Speaker 2

It's good stuff Good deal, yeah, good deal. Checked out old Embry Riddle University.

Speaker 1

How was that Pretty damn cool man that?

Speaker 2

damn campus was sweet, is it? Yeah, I I mean. So you know you're close to the beach. It's Daytona party town, not that he'll ever do any of that, but that's what you think.

Speaker 1

Yeah, I know He'll go crazy. Get ready, my friend. Yeah, I know.

Speaker 2

I'll get one of those drunken calls at like 2.30 in the morning. Hey Dad, I need mail. Dad, can you post mail for me? I love you, but there's just like a at the back of it, just fleet of training airplanes I mean sweet, yeah, I don't know how many I can't remember how many they said, but you know, you start doing the math on these things like man. Y'all tied up a lot of money on that and then right on the other end of that is the damn daytona 500 I mean that's.

Speaker 1

That's where it's at I have a patient that's in their aerospace engineering program down there.

Speaker 2

Okay, he loves it down there, so yeah every everybody that we have come across that either knows somebody or has gone there says the best place ever, sure and um yeah so, as he put in his last post, it's time for him to fly, so we'll see nice.

Speaker 1

Yeah, we'll see what happens what about you? Oh gosh, you know not much this is. This has kind of been my year of not doing any extensive traveling, but I say that, and I was in los angeles a few weeks ago visiting my daughter yeah, and I, um, well, you know, and that was great I I really allocated a lot of time for her.

Speaker 1

The the airbnb that I rented was kind of a shithole, um it wasn't great like I wouldn't have like had virginia stay there um, but it was like right across the street from the Santa Monica Pier.

Speaker 2

I like staying in Santa Monica I like its vibe and everything. Yeah.

Speaker 1

And my daughter lives in Sherman Oaks, which is up in the valley and over the mountains and over the ridge, like it's away from where all the fires were and everything, and it was nice.

Speaker 1

The weather was decent. My daughter and I got to spend a lot of time together. I decent, uh, my daughter and I got to spend a lot of time together. I got to see the guys yeah, up there, and this time we had we were lucky that we had todd howard join us. Nice kids, that's todd howard of fallout, skyrim and elder scrolls those small things you know the, the guy that's behind.

Speaker 1

All gamers know who todd howard is and todd's I haven't seen todd in 13 years oh, wow um, he and I used to. He was in our. You know we all play dnd together and stuff like that. Yes, you can play dnd kids and still get laid um it helps if you know how to play piano and know the billy joel catalog um, anyway, um, but I didn't know, I hadn't seen him.

Speaker 1

Um, I've been 13 years since I last saw him and that's when all of this, his world, just blew up on bethesda, softworks and everything like that, but every gamer that that knows, I tell me I know todd harrod and I like he and I, he and I, we always I had kind of a nice independent relationship of him, independent from his brother, right, um, where, like the, when two times we went to see billy joel on the bridge tour in 1986 and 87, because our we there was this bus company that had this deal where, like, you could buy your ticket, you get a bus fare and they'll take you, like to the philly spectrum or to awesome, to brendanbur arena, which is the metal lands yeah, okay, they used to.

Speaker 1

You know, and you just and they, they wait for you and they pick you up and you go right back home.

Speaker 2

Yeah, it's a pretty sweet deal.

Speaker 1

So we did that twice and it was a number of times. I saw concerts like that. Another guy and I went to see Jethro Tull down at the Spectrum.

Speaker 2

You just saw, Heart didn't you.

Speaker 1

I just saw Heart how weird, was that. So that was a great joke. I'll get to that in a second. Let me wrap up.

Speaker 1

Los Angeles, that's okay, we're that's okay, we're good, um, um, but uh, so yeah, and then I had dinner with um, my high school girlfriend and her husband at their house down at long beach and that was lovely, it was just, and it was nice because I told them that this time around with the restaurant we had met at a year ago with when virginia had traveled with me, like just you get in those big open spaces, like I've got mid range hearing loss from years of Walkman and iPod abuse and and loud music and all that crap.

Speaker 1

So, like you try to have a conversation in a big, open space like that, like I, I have to read lips, you know. That's that's where I'm at, and so so I told her um, I said well, her um, I said well, now I can actually hear you. You know, here, and it was just wonderful, we just talked about all sorts of crap and everything and and and you know what we all deal with, and and one of the questions that I and not I don't want to dive into politics just yet, but but one of the questions I've been asking a lot of people is where's your line right, like what? How, how sideways? Does everything have to go here before you say that's's it, I'm out, I'm selling a house, I'm, you know, as the song goes close the shop sell the house bought a ticket overseas.

Speaker 2

I'm amazed by both sides. Yeah, the blind loyalty that's out there, exactly, yes, yes, I'm amazed by it, yeah.

Speaker 1

Yeah so, but so no, it was great, and so it was a nice little trip chance for me to get away recharge my batteries. Next weekend I go down to see mom and check in on her and how that's going, and then nothing really for the next few weeks.

Speaker 2

Nice.

Speaker 1

Until the end of May, Memorial Day week, Virginia and I go down to Hilton Head for a week, yeah. But like there's no trips to Europe this year or anything like that, we're just kind of saving our energy for next summer, when Jeffrey graduates and so right, yeah, no, right, no.

Speaker 2

We talked about before.

Speaker 1

I just had a fraternity brother come through town yesterday with his wife and and he's like, is that's already happening?

Speaker 2

And I'm like, I'm like, dude, I'm going to.

Speaker 1

I will tell every parent this them college years go fast like you blink and it's over right now and uh, yeah, so we're, we'll be. And it's funny because his, his, his term generally ends like in may, but his graduation is not like till the first week of july. So I don't know, first of all, what the fuck he's supposed to do there, while for the six weeks, right he's kind of just treading water. That's bizarre. I told him.

Speaker 1

I said I would stay and go travel all over scotland and maybe europe, while you're at it like, take advantage of all that yeah um, but we're gonna try and blend that into a go there for graduation and then virginia and I are gonna probably go to ireland and check out that, yeah you know, and just just get get a feel for that. But nope, I got nothing big planned so far.

Speaker 2

I gotta, I gotta call, I gotta see if boating season's about to start you know I gotta call them and de-winterize the boat and all that crap and everything yeah, this weather a couple past couple days been weird as shit being as hot as it is right and then it's supposed to get down to like high 50s next week.

Speaker 1

Yeah, like so I told virginia. I said, okay, we're hot tubbing every night next. I just drained the hot tub, so strack like who's?

Speaker 2

I mean he, I was like that's exactly on this front.

Speaker 1

But he's like oh yeah, I've never drained the tub and it just stays great. I'm like I don't know how you're not draining the tub because like I'm seeing shit pile up at the bottom of of the tub and everything like that. You know, the shop vac only goes so far you know.

Speaker 2

And so what exactly is that exactly? You know?

Speaker 1

it's, it's uh you'd be like Bill Murray, no we have this phenomenon of like you'd flip the lid back on the tub and it's like, oh, you see these fucking wasps or hornets or something underneath them. Because the chlorine apparently attracts them. Oh wow, yeah, so like, and they're all cold and they're like, but then they get in there and it's like way too hot and it's like the chlorine, and then they all die. And now I got hornets like dead hornets lying in my tub.

Speaker 2

That's crazy.

Speaker 1

It's fucking pain. I tell you what, friends, owning a hot tub is like having another child.

Speaker 2

It really is constant maintenance and everything, and I don't but anyway, so that yeah.

Speaker 1

So other than that, not much going on. It's been a lot better at the office since we got a continuing resolution on the budget and everything. And it's amazing how night and day it's been. My first quarter was just a disaster and now it's like, okay, the Medicaid approvals are all coming through, and now we're back, we're back, and so there's a young lady with whom I've been talking about coming on as an associate.

NIL Impact on College Basketball

Speaker 1

So at the end of this month actually, I travel up to philadelphia because our national convention is then, and so I'm going to meet up with her and we'll see if this has legs. And and there's still another guy who I talked to earlier this year before. I just put ice on that and we'll see right you know where it goes and everything, so that's good, that's what we got going on, not too much otherwise.

Speaker 2

So um heart. I gotta know about heart.

Speaker 1

So heart because she was in a wheelchair, right, yeah, because she apparently like broke her elbow or something like that, was in a lot of pain and and, uh, break your elbow why is she in a wheelchair?

Speaker 2

I don't know, but vocally you wouldn't have known it Really, yeah, no, See, that was my like, you know, when I heard that she was in a wheelchair and then I saw your photos and she was standing, like I didn't know what that dynamic was going to do.

Speaker 1

Nothing, she was just sitting in a wheelchair.

Speaker 2

Yeah, it could have been a bar stool.

Speaker 1

Could have been a bar stool. Could have been a bar stool awesome, yeah, she was. They were great. Then, cheap trick was awesome too. Yeah, they opened and and it's one of those cheap for the cheap trick because I had seen them in 2009 on a triple bill with poison and deaf leopard, and so it's kind of like, okay, this is a little redundant, except there's a song that they have covered called California man which was recorded by a group called the Move, which was the precursor to Electric Light Orchestra.

Speaker 1

Okay, cool, so the original cut has Jeff Lynn. He's singing on it.

Speaker 1

All right, you know, you hear he has solo vocals on it with Roy Wood, who was the other member of the band and it's the guy that wrote the song. Right, but I told Virginia, I said you know, if they play California man, I'm good, yeah. And all of a sudden they start in that song they include a guitar riff to another move song called Brontosaurus, and so they start they go boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom. I'm like, okay, they I don't really remember, no, I think I.

Speaker 2

I mean, did you ever have that moment in time where, like man, do I really want to pay this for these guys, or not?

Speaker 1

Well, based on the tickets now today, for what they're charging for concerts, I'm out.

Speaker 2

Yeah, I'm pretty much done at this point. Oh no, I think the Guns N' Roses tickets shocked the shit out of me. I was like what? This London Rose's tickets shocked the shit out of me. I was like what? This is concert ticket prices.

Speaker 1

So to answer your question, no, they were not. They're like maybe $150. And we were in the 100 level.

Speaker 2

My usual place, like the 124 section 121 is where I mid 100 level around, you get what you need.

Speaker 1

Yeah, and, but it was one of those concerts where I was like do I really need to see this, Like I mean, do I? It's hard, you know what I mean, but I'm like no, they were great.

Speaker 2

They were great, Nancy Wilson.

Speaker 1

Nancy Wilson shows that she's a really good guitar player too.

Speaker 2

I knew it was going to be either one. You know what I mean. Either you were going to be ranting and be like why the fuck are you guys even on tour anymore?

Speaker 1

you enjoyed it and it was one of those. I'm good now and but same for cheap trick.

Speaker 1

I'm I'm good, I don't need to see them anymore and it's it's good because these tickets be getting expensive I saw that nine inch nails was on tour and I was like, oh yeah, okay, I'd like to see that because it's been, it's been since, it's been about 15 years or so since I last saw them in concert, and then so like they're playing in nashville and I'm like, okay, and it was while virginia is over in Italy with her sisters. Yeah, I'm like, oh, fuck, yeah, it'd be perfect for me to go do this as a solo thing. Right, yeah, it's 150 bucks for like 300 level seats.

Speaker 2

Oh yeah, fuck you, I'm not doing that.

Speaker 1

You know, floor seats, 100 level, you're talking like $700. I'm like, nope, that's crazy. Nope, that's redefining. I want to fuck you like an animal.

Speaker 2

I was about to say that it's so stupid? I don't get it, man. It's good to be in concerts, go to concerts, you know and see. But God man, they've just gotten so crazy.

Speaker 1

Well, it's just gotten totally gluttonous yeah.

Speaker 2

And then God forbid if you try to go like go to like Ticketmaster or like Vivid Seats and start buying shit, because then it's like quadruple the fucking price. Well, what's?

Speaker 1

funny is the ACDC concert, which is the next one I'm going to in May.

Speaker 2

I'm kind of jealous about that one. That's the one I would.

Speaker 1

Yeah, that was a little more than I cared to spend for it given yeah, and you know, and again it was, they're one of.

Speaker 1

They're one of the bands that was kind of on my, the last on my list of like who's remaining that I need to see. I green day is another one I haven't seen live that I would like to see, right, but so I'm excited to see them. I'm hoping it'll be a great show. Um, I'm hoping they totally deliver and everything. I'm really hoping it doesn't fucking rain because it's in the Nissan Stadium.

Speaker 2

Oh shit, yeah, oh, that sucks.

Speaker 1

On a Tuesday night. That's not who's truck Right?

Speaker 2

I swear to God, man ACDC, do they even have a bad song?

Speaker 1

I don't think so.

Speaker 2

I don't think so either. No matter, even if the song kind of sucks, they still got. You know, you're still stomping your foot.

Speaker 1

I really didn't get into them until adulthood. Like I, was not a big listener of them growing up or anything like that I mean fuck, I was listening to ELO and that was a way to get the shit stomped out of um, you know, like my life would have been all different if I had just listened to acdc in junior high, you know, probably would have gone a whole lot of different directions.

Speaker 1

Um, but but no, it's and and the back in black album I have such respect for, you know, because it's like here our lead singer has just died and you can't tell the difference it's this black cover and it's a fuck you.

Speaker 2

We're moving on and from start to finish that album is just non-stop and so every now and then, like you know, if you look at like one of the best-selling albums of all time, it'll creep up in the top three yeah you know it's like it and dark side of the moon yeah, acdc is just one of those bands too, like a movie will put a song in there right, and the younger generation sure whoa, what the hell was that Right, you know. I think kids, they too are getting that from, like Motley Crue and stuff, like they'll just all of a sudden like here kickstart my heart again.

Speaker 1

What did they put in? What is that? They put one in Iron man, is it? Um, is it back in black? They put in just yeah, again they just go whoa, I don't know what that was, but I gotta find out. I mean from the back in black album, I mean just from the opening church bells ringing for hell's bells, you know, and it's just like we have a statement to make and they just pulled out all the stops. And then, of course, the best party song of all time with you shook me all night long yes, you know, I mean you're wrong with that can't go wrong with that.

Speaker 2

Have a drink go wrong with that have a drink on me, it's just awesome man Fucking start to finish great album, so I'm excited for it. Unless it's raining. Unless it's raining, it won't You'll have a good time.

Speaker 1

Yeah, and I'll be driving from Morristown that day to go see that.

Speaker 2

A little bit of extra mileage there. That's going to suck, going to be all kinds. That puts it into like a three and a half hour drive there.

Speaker 1

Probably with me going through Knoxville at rush hour time.

Speaker 2

Oh, make that four and a half.

Speaker 1

Exit 373 will suck.

Speaker 2

Yep, yep, every time, every time, every day, right at the split too.

Speaker 1

Yep, yeah, it's at 369.

Speaker 2

That sucks.

Speaker 1

Yeah, it's brutal, yeah, and I don't know why we have that problem.

Speaker 2

Because people can't fucking merge.

Speaker 1

Yeah, that's true. That's the only reason.

Speaker 2

No, it is, you'll go through there and be like, well, why the hell did that just happen? And it's like, oh yeah, that's why.

Speaker 1

And then the only other concert I have on the books is Lyle Lovett's Coming Back to the Tennessee Theater.

Speaker 2

And I'm going by myself to that one also.

Speaker 1

Yeah, I don't really know who they are. I'm like Alone, Right.

Speaker 2

What about like let's just do the 80s hits Well. Heart was one of those. To me, it's just like oh, that's Heart, right, you know what?

Speaker 1

I mean yeah, oh, oh, yeah, of course, yeah, absolutely I know Heart you know, Of course.

Speaker 2

Yeah, absolutely I know Heart, you know.

Speaker 1

but if you stop anyone on the street, they're like, I don't know anyone's songs but you almost have to break them up. And there's your 70s hits and there's your 80s hits. You know, and you know, and so you know you get to hear Barracuda and Crazy on you. But you also have to put up with Alone and these Dreams. You know.

Speaker 2

And I just you know, and uh, I just looked at it as the wilson sisters are making nice with each other.

Speaker 1

Let's see this while the harmony exists and I just call one and done for me, yeah and uh. But you know, running out of concerts and I'm kind of glad again with everything, um, it's, it's been boy, I'm glad I did that before the prices be getting crazy around here because you know tariffs, we've got tariffs, we've got stacks and stacks of tariffs and um, so yeah, no, I'm, I'm.

Speaker 1

So it's three concerts so far, unless I actually, if you want to count comedians. We're actually going to go see in ashville in august. We're going to see louis ck oh, that's awesome.

Speaker 2

It's gonna be awesome yeah him. Yeah, I'm glad he's coming back.

Speaker 1

He roped. I was once channel surfing and I landed on his one of his comedy specials on like HBO or something like that, and it was a bit where he goes. Sometimes I'm walking around and I feel that I need to go wipe myself for no reason whatsoever and I'm like dude, I feel this 100%. This is old guy shit, literally, and I'm like I feel this, I feel seen.

Speaker 2

I always forget the guy's name, but he's gotten super popular as of late. He's from Nashville Mulvaney. No, but he's. He's gotten super popular as of late.

Speaker 1

He's from nashville um mulvaney no, but he's.

David's Career Promotion News

Speaker 2

He's really good too, but he doesn't cuss. He's been on saturday night live past couple times. Oh, what's his name? It's anyway. I saw he put out a new one and we actually saw him live um here not too long ago. But the guy is just so deadpan.

Speaker 1

Is it Mike Birbiglia? No, we saw him recently here. He was really good too.

Speaker 2

Ah, jeez Nate Brigazzi.

Speaker 1

Okay.

Speaker 2

You seen this guy?

Speaker 1

I have not no.

Speaker 2

You need to. He has a new special on Netflix. And it's just, it's our age, humor right younger kids right like listen to him and be like well, that's.

Speaker 1

I'm glad you're laughing, sure you know, but he's just he's able to bring stuff that happens in your household and makes it just hilarious right it's good, yeah, that's been my last comedian, but there's a guy that virginia, we, we went up to, uh, new york I don't know how long ago it was, maybe it was the other time we saw billy joel live, so that would have been late 22, I guess um, and we went to see the comedy, uh, comedy below, which is off Broadway, and everything, and it's like you know, there's a guy named Greg Rogel.

Speaker 2

Yeah.

Speaker 1

And he's just, I follow him on Facebook and he just.

Speaker 2

There's nothing better than a good comedian. He's fucking hilarious.

Speaker 1

Like that. I mean, if that guy goes on tour I will go to the nearest city that he's playing because he is so fucking funny.

Speaker 2

I remember early 2000s kind of was going through like a dry spell of comedians. You know, just nothing was new and you know our guys are starting to die off and all that stuff. But then I got to Dave Attell and his insomnia and I mean my buddy just handed me the CDs Like you got to listen to this guy. And I mean my buddy just handed me the CDs Like you gotta, you gotta, listen to this guy. And I mean I could barely pick up my head and I love finding those people you never even heard of before.

Speaker 2

Yeah, but they just kill you. Yeah and yeah. I've always loved good comedians.

Speaker 1

I mean for me in college. It was you know. Dice Kinison Dice.

Speaker 2

Yeah, rodney Dangerfield.

Speaker 1

All dice, yeah, you know, rodney dangerfield, all those I mean, and it's, it's, I'll tell you. You know you listen to that shit. It doesn't stick the landing.

Speaker 2

But, boy, back in the 90s it was really fucking funny that shit was fucking funny like I remember, even like deaf comedy jam like all that stuff was, that was coming out, and yeah, I mean I can recite dice stuff from chapter and verse.

Speaker 1

You know, I mean, it was uh the dice man cometh and and uh sam kinnison's album. Have you seen me lately that that in our fraternity we all just had copies? Of it and it was just on constant rotation, you know it's something else, man.

Speaker 1

Yeah you know, it'll never happen again no you know, not like that, not like it, no, yeah their material is what we they would call problematic, just a hair. Well, it's like. It's kind of like old school howard stern you know, like when you listen, like I think about his old bits that I listened to in the 80s and 90s.

Speaker 1

Well, not even that. But he's also evolved and so he's one I like to hold up as a poster child of. Okay, you cannot condemn him for the shit he did in the past, you know, and he even admits in his last book that he wrote the one where he just did all of his interviews and and shared all of his interviews that he'd done.

Speaker 1

He's like, yeah, I wrote two books before and I was not in a great time in my life or at a great headspace and I'm actually embarrassed by those books, right, and I'm embarrassed by the person that I was back then and I do all the therapy I've been through and I like I get it.

Speaker 2

I totally understand.

Speaker 1

Like there's shit that I did in my younger years that I'm like fuck you know and um, and then, if people have enough grace to extend you that, that chance to you know, um, build the bridge again yes.

Speaker 1

And to harken back to a previous episode. But yeah, no, so it's you know. And so, like I like how Stern has evolved into a great interviewer. Now I don't listen to Stern much anymore, just because I seem to always land on the channel when he and the fucking whack pack, or the staff, are doing their little, doing their little goofy bits, which I just wish he wouldn't do. I don't care about ronnie the limo driver right I just don't give a.

Speaker 1

Like that guy has gotten more air time, has gotten 90 minutes of fame rather than 50. Like he just make him go like is the motherfucker not retired? Like I thought he retired and he runs like a veterinary clinic with his wife out in Las Vegas. I'm like why are we still giving this guy airtime? And I don't care about Richard Christie and I don't care about Sal, you know.

Speaker 2

I forget his last name, governali. That's just the Adam Sandler in him, man. Yeah, you know what I mean.

Speaker 1

He's just going to take care of his guys. Just do the fucking interviews, because I'll listen to that for four hours if you just get the right person. Yeah, I mean he landed both joe biden and kamala harris. Yep, you know, during the 24 election season. I mean my god, I mean he's got to be sitting here going. Okay, this is a major flex for me you know, and he had got hillary clinton on there as well, and and so like who would have thought?

Speaker 1

right, exactly so. So yeah. So I mean that's where you can extend and say hey, people can evolve and change and and all that stuff. Oh, yeah, so, um, but yeah, that's that's concerts, that's that's kind of where I'm at. I'm just at three and then add one more comedy thing right not a lot of travel, uh, you know, just kind of was that the first time you've been to the kennedy?

Speaker 1

the other night, no, oh god, I've been there many times okay, yeah and I've been there in its previous iteration when it was black horse pub.

Speaker 2

Oh, yeah, yeah yeah, I'm just super impressed with that place. Great place, not, yeah, let's, let's talk about local shit. You know, yeah, I, I just if y'all, if you, whoever's listening, even if you're in anderson, south carolina, you got to come to the Kennedy in downtown Knoxville.

Speaker 1

Let me just break for episode 34.

Speaker 2

Yeah, cheers to you, man. Sixty nine listens like it is now officially our second most downloaded Right.

Speaker 1

Well done friends. It may be more now for all I know, but but we have actually. Let me. Let me quick check this and see what we got going on there. Hold on.

Speaker 2

I'm glad we went to the Kennedy. The amount of work that they've 75 downloads. Let's go.

Speaker 1

Of episode 14 about parenting politics and the world of sports. That is officially. Once it cruises past 90, it may become our most downloaded episode Thank you. We thank you for all of that Appreciate the support.

Speaker 2

I'm tickled to death over there.

Speaker 1

I was going to say go to whatever platform you're listening to, leave us a five-star review, because that affects the algorithm and that kind of gets us out there a little bit more. But anyway, so the Kennedy.

Speaker 2

Let's talk about the Kennedy. What the amount of work that they did to change it. Um, the inside's just immaculate to me sure. Where we had our last dinner upstairs with kind of like the the light coming through all the bourbon bottles, I mean that was really cool man it's uh, again, I like the places that take us out of Knoxville when we're in Knoxville.

Speaker 1

Exactly. You know, it's just like I was like oh okay, yeah, yeah, this is Like you said. Okay, knoxville can have nice things. Yeah, right, right, but I mean like Black Horse.

Speaker 2

You know I'm in a pub in Knoxville.

Speaker 1

Yeah, you know yeah.

Speaker 2

You know when you're in and the food's man, I ate off that damn pasta for like 18 days oh yeah, that was so much of it. No, right it was.

Speaker 1

I mean, I mean, I was eating it good food, good drinks, oh yeah, locations, good locations, perfect if you're, if you're wanting to have a good time downtown that's kind of where we go now. If we like have a show at the tennessee to go see or whatnot? Yeah, we'll just kind of land there it's, it does a great job.

Speaker 2

Yeah, so there's just so much down there right now. That is very good. Yeah, I just I'm I'm super impressed with what they are, the vibes that they're generating down there.

Speaker 1

Yeah and you know it's funny because, again you know the rent is still too damn high. Fuck, yes, prices of every like I. I just was looking at my recent credit card bill and I told my wife I'm like it's like we go out and do a nice dinner with our friends. We cannot keep it below $100 for two people.

Speaker 2

No, there's no shot.

Speaker 1

And part of the problem is my wife likes to go for the fancy drinks and everything like that, but if I order a thing of scotch I'm fucked man I mean it's like that, there you go, there's $ bucks added to your bill, and well, I mean as good as those, the old fashions that we had, I mean, but I mean that bill was yeah, no, it was 200 plus, yeah, right, yeah, I mean I'm not mad at it, I knew that's what it was coming in.

Speaker 1

Just accept that going in yeah, yeah, you can't do it often, nope, not anymore, not anymore, yeah you know, in Virginia, and I mean gosh, when we gosh, when we first got together, we were like going out to lunch, like we would meet up near in the old city where she worked and we'd go to like the poor. Yeah, because when they were serving lunch and whatnot I don't know if they still are, I haven't been there in a long time We'd go there, we just go a whole, and now it's just kind of like okay.

Speaker 1

And also we don't like to venture too far out from our house. So like if we were to go to lunch tomorrow, our go-tos would be Paria, over in the Renaissance Elmez Cal in Farragut or 35 North. Okay, those are kind of our definite standbys.

Speaker 2

Right, I like that.

Speaker 1

Yeah, they're good. 35 North really kind of did a great job in rehabbing itself.

Speaker 2

Has the business been steady there when I don't know, it seems pretty I mean I haven't gone during, like.

Speaker 1

I mean I've kind of gone just lunch times.

Speaker 2

I've only the only time I've been since, um you know, they switched it over and actually, get, you know, had a food menu instead of the food trucks and stuff was your birthday, like yeah two three years ago yeah, that was right, that was some time ago.

Concert Experiences and Ticket Prices

Speaker 1

Yeah, that would have been 23. Okay, yeah, yeah, but I just was curious.

Speaker 2

Yeah, because I love that place. Yeah, no, it's great, great location, it's great.

Speaker 1

I mean no it's the food's solid and and, and they've got a whiskey display there yeah, that bar, that bar is just cool as shit. I mean, you know they've got, they've got a healthy selection, because I like a, I like a bar that has a healthy selection of like beers and the local craft stuff and everything like that. But enough where you know you go to some place and it's just ipa after ipa after ipa, after ipa, and you're like god jesus, can we just like get like there?

Speaker 2

are other flavors out there.

Speaker 1

That's what I feel about zool you know, people lose their fucking minds over the pb and j's shit yeah, but okay, but but then all the rest of them are like, like sours and sours and like man, can I have some beer exactly like they've got a czech, they've got a czechoslovakian lager. It's like can I just have a lager lager?

Speaker 1

you know, you know, foster's lager maybe, I mean whatever you know, that's why I like a peaceful side they have yes you know, they don't have a whole hell of a lot yeah, but what they do have is it's in it's every little branch. You know what I mean?

Speaker 2

yeah, you know you, whatever you're looking for, you'll be able to find there yeah.

Speaker 1

So have you guys gone out to the peaceful side in townsend since we last were there, or uh, no, okay, yeah no, I take that back.

Speaker 2

We we went, uh, during the summer, just this past summer okay and we only normally think about that when the weather's just really hot like for whatever reason, we don't find ourselves in townsend in the winter no and just whatever, however the reason that may be, but I was man. That was that taco little stand that they've got that's pretty solid and the damn margaritas that they make in that place that'll put you on your ass.

Speaker 1

Yeah, they don't fuck around, no and and, but I like the one. I keep and I keep forgetting, like as a place to go dash for lunch, you know, I keep forgetting.

Speaker 2

There's the one right there, right off everett, you know yeah everett no, yeah, everett, and right there, and and east broadway, broadway broadway. Yeah and uh used to be the blackberry farm yeah, and they still serve their beers. But, right, you know, peaceful side bottom, yeah, or they whatever.

Speaker 1

However, they worked that out. Have you been to the? I don't know what the name of the place is, but it's right next to the or behind the walnut kitchen uh, the armory that they're building well, that's not the one, that's not the thing they're building, it's I'm talking. There's a place like if you are on washington street, okay, and you know, you, uh, just gone past the pawn shop and, and uh firehouse subs.

Speaker 1

And then there's that first right and it's it's right immediately behind the alleyway of didn't even know anything, yeah like they're kind of partnering shit like you could see in the future, like them closing off that alleyway and like having bands play there yeah like they do over at um oh. Lyric theater in loudon yeah okay, um it. Yeah, kind of a decent marital's changing quite drastically.

Speaker 2

I'm super impressed, I, I you know.

Speaker 1

And then they decided to put a fucking holiday in right on main main street, so we'll see, I don't know it's tough this. I'm really tough on this area. It just seems like there's so much opportunity to really posh it up and have nice things.

Speaker 2

I mean, they're building a chop house over there too.

Speaker 1

Thank God, yeah, it's going to be good, it'll be awesome.

Speaker 2

All that area. I'm impressed with it.

Speaker 1

I haven't really noticed, but has anything replaced Diamond?

Speaker 2

Back.

Speaker 1

Jack, diamond back jack. Is that what they're called? Diamond back jack? Yeah, something like that diamond, diamond jacks diamond jacks.

Speaker 2

Yeah, diamond, it's kickback jacks we don't know, they can sound like they're a fucking rattlesnake, you know diamondback, you know. But yeah, no, I'm anxious to see when it's all said and done, but won't like the traffic. I mean hell. I feel like I talk about it every episode. It's just like it's just. It gets more and more congested.

Speaker 1

It's insane, but it's everywhere. There's nowhere to go. No, there's no hiding from it.

Speaker 2

You know they're going to find you, yeah. You know, it's just, they're like Like I can't even imagine like Nashville now.

Speaker 1

You know, when I lived there, it was awful. You know what I mean. Yeah, it was just awful, yeah.

Speaker 2

And that was fucking 20 years ago, yeah, now I can't even. I mean, mount Juliet Was probably the size Of damn Nashville when I was living there. Now I mean passing through, it makes me miss Philadelphia Pennsylvania. Right, I don't blame you. Yeah, cause they got the infrastructure To handle it.

Speaker 1

Right a bridge collapses On I-95. They haven't rebuilt the next week, you know Right.

Speaker 2

Like and and. You were saying Well, man, I think we should wrap this one and you were saying Well, man, I think we should wrap this one.

Speaker 1

I think we should wrap this episode. Yeah, no good, Go Duke.

Speaker 2

Go Duke. We're going to give the old slogan for the Vols maybe next year.

Speaker 1

Maybe next year. Honest to God, I will be honest that I will be happy the day you guys make it to the final four.

Speaker 2

It's the only thing I haven't seen them do.

Speaker 1

Right, I mean it'll be like okay, welcome to the club.

Speaker 2

Yeah, it's the only thing I haven't seen UT Athletics do.

Speaker 1

I like it once in a while when a team comes along and like when Baylor won the national championship a few years ago. Cheers to you. It. You can now say we've won a national championship.
