In today's episode of Health Youniversity, Dr. Susan Fox steps in solo to share something close to her heart — the charitable organization behind the work, and why it exists.
As part of the international Podcastathon (March 14–20), podcasters worldwide are spotlighting the causes they champion. For Health Youniversity, that means shining a light on the Health Youniversity Group — a 509(a)(2) public charity dedicated to making the Preconception Plan Course accessible to the people who need it but may have financial constraints.
Dr. Susan walks through what the course actually is: a 120-day, phase-by-phase program built around the menstrual cycle, covering nutrition and hydration, circulation through Qigong, a targeted stimulation technique called TEAS that has been shown to improve live birth rates by 42% in women over 35, sleep and lifestyle support, stress resilience through guided imagery with binaural beats, and one-on-one coaching with Dr. Susan herself.
She also speaks to something important: the false divide that's grown between integrative reproductive medicine and conventional IVF — and why the most powerful approach isn't either/or. It's both.
You'll learn why the Preconception Plan Course is built around 120 days — and what folliculogenesis actually means for your fertility outcomes, what TEAS is and why meta-analyses on over 2,000 women show a 42% improvement in live birth rates for women over 35 doing frozen embryo transfer, how this program works alongside any fertility cycle — not instead of it, what the Health Youniversity Group charity is and how to donate or apply for a scholarship, and why Dr. Susan is calling for an end to the competition between integrative medicine and IVF.
This episode is for you if you're navigating fertility challenges and want to understand what a whole-health preconception approach looks like in practice, you've been told IVF is your only option and want to know what you can do alongside it, you're looking for a program you can follow at home on your own schedule without adding more appointments, you want to help fund access to fertility support for someone who can't afford it, or someone you love is on this journey and you're looking for a way to support them.

Hello and welcome to today's episode of Health University. Here at Health University, we talk all things fertility, pregnancy, and postpartum, and the prep for perimenopause, all the steps across the bridge of a woman's reproductive health. Today we're going to do something a little bit different. And it is just myself, Dr. Susan Fox, your host, having this conversation with you because I was invited to have a podcast episode, a mini episode wherein which I was highlighting a charitable organization. This group that reached out to me called thepodcastathon.org is hosting an event the week of March 14th through the 20th internationally, within which podcasters from around the world are highlighting the charitable organization of their choice. And because I have, or we have at Health University a charitable organization called Health University Group, we are able to highlight this particular group. Health University Group is a public charity. It's called a 509A2 public charity, and it is designed to provide scholarship, if you will, to help defer the cost of the pre-conception plan course at Health University. And this is so that we can help more people get the help that they need using the contents of the course. So, what is the course? It is a 120-day program within which there are modules for the four phases, the five phases of the four-week menstrual cycle. And within each phase, we include a module for nutrition and hydration, circulation at large using Tai Chi, Qigong, and classes, as well as targeted circulation, which we use transcutaneous electrical acupoint stimulation. The acronym is TEASE, T-E-A-S. And TEAS is so important to this conversation because it has been shown in meta-analyses of I think more than 2,000 women to improve live birth rates for women over 35 undergoing frozen embryo transfer by 42%. So women over 35 would be presumed to have some level of diminished ovarian reserve. Undergoing frozen embryo transfer, well, clearly they're having some fertility struggle if they've found themselves having a frozen embryo transfer. And so we want to make sure that we're improving the health through circulation and nutrition of nutrient-dense blood to ovaries and uterus, the follicles growing inside those ovaries, the eggs growing inside those follicles for the arc of time that is known as folliculogenesis. The time from which an egg is pure potential until 120 days later, it is ready to be in the cohort to be ovulated or retrieved if it's an IVF cycle. Please connect with us for a fertility assessment call at the link below. We'd love to learn a bit about you and share our resources. And make sure you subscribe to our YouTube channel so that you never miss an episode. And so, oh, in addition to the tease, we also cover things like lifestyle, uh, you know, your sleep wakes, the importance of proper sleep wake cycles, the impro the importance of emotional health and stress resilience. We also have modules that are five phases of the four weeks of the menstrual cycle of guided imagery using what's called binaural beats. So they really help retrain your brain so that it is less inclined toward reverting to its stress impulse and more inclined to be resilient in the face of stress. It also includes one-on-one coaching with me. So it is a DIY, but it has a little bit of a DIY component to it. This is perfect for the person who is already too busy to run to another series of appointments or to engage in another membership because she's got things to do. And so having to show up every you know Monday or Wednesday for the group membership may not be in her calendar. So she can do all of these in the comfort of her own home at the times during her day that is most convenient for her. So back to Health University Group. If you or someone you know could be a donor, could donate to Health University Group, we will have in the show notes a link to make your donation. It'll go to our donation page. And we thank you in advance. Any donation is valuable. It is going to help someone realize their dream of family with your contribution. If you are someone who might need to receive a discount on your preconception plan course, then we ask that you reach out to us via the link below that is the fertility assessment call because this, and it's a brief call, about 10 minutes. While this program is right for most, it may not be right for all. There are a couple of conditions within which applying electrical current to your body may not be appropriate. And so we want to make sure that we're not just having this out there to purchase at large. We want to do a little bit of our own due diligence around it. So if you think that you know someone who could donate, please pass this along. If you think you know someone who might benefit, please pass this along. Because one in five people are determined to be struggling with fertility challenge. I purport this is sub-fertility. And so we can make these corrections to one's whole health and therefore one's reproductive health. And I want to speak a moment to the restorative reproductive medicine in air quotes versus NCAPS, the conventional medical model of IVF. In the past year, there's been enough discourse and discussion that has put the two support structures in competition at odds. And I really want to express my sincerest hope and wish that this once again returned to not an either-or, but a both and. I've been in this field for 24 years. We worked really hard to get to a point where we are integrative medicine, supporting our patients with our own form of medicine as best we can. So let's raise the advocacy a little bit and so that we can really support these people, not put them at odds. And if you're listening, again, we're not putting you at odds. We're saying do both. Depending upon your needs, you may need to go straight into an IVF cycle or an egg retrieval cycle or an egg freezing cycle. Um, and we respect that. We can do this concurrently with that cycle. If you have time, then it would be ideal to be able to do it prior to that cycle so you get the benefit of the 120-day folliculogenesis timeframe. So, with that in mind, we are so grateful for your time. Uh, please like, share, rate this podcast episode. It really does help raise the algorithm so that more people become aware of the podcasts. And um, and I find and promise that they are going to be and continue to be invaluable. We bring in experts in the field each week to give you a little bit more uh information and advice to support your whole health and your fertile health and the health of your baby and the health of your future. Thanks so much.
